Apx Alarms refusal to cancel contract

My wife and I took over a 60 month contract from the woman who owned the home we purchased in Feb. 2009. We have had to travel 400 mile per week for my wife's medical treatments, which were bankrupting us, and would have continued into to unforseeable future, so we sold our home at a loss and moved to the city where my wife receives treatments.

We asked APX if they could waive the balance, due to our situation, that we were no longer using the service and could not afford to make the payments. They offered to reduce the balance and/or find someone to take over the contract. The buyers of our home are not interested, and frankly, if APX is this difficult, why would we try to find someone else to take over our contract. After climbing as high in their chain of command as they would allow, we left it up to them to deal with the balance.

Apx Alarms SCAM

In August of 2008 I entered in to contract with APX ALARMS. So far to date the service has been great, except for the fact that I just realized I was being scammed. The day I entered into the contract my tenant was with me, he asked my permission to install an APX alarm system at his residence. I asked the represenative how it would work, and was it at all possible, since I own the house but do not reside there. His exact words were " Sure all you have to do is sign that you give APX permission to install the alarm." I specifically asked the rep. if I would ever be responsible for the alarm if the tenant decided to move out. The reps words were "NO, if the tenant moves out the service would be disconnected, and the tenant would be billed at his new address." Well today 01-05-09 I was at my tenants house collecting rent when I happened to notice an APX bill addressed to my name on hi table. I opened the bill and to my surprise it was a collection notice notifying me that I owed $197.00 and I was being reported to collections in one week. I called APX to see why my name was on this bill and not my tenants, and all they could tell me was I should have read what I signed. I told them that their rep mislead me to believe that I wouldn't be responsible for my tenants bill in no possible way. And the rep advised me not to blame his company for my faults and to call a lawyer & seek legal action. I asked to speak to a supervisor, which took me a 1/2 hour to get through to and he was no more help than the first nasty, rude rep. Needless to say I have to come up with $435.00 to reactivate the account so it won't go into collections. And if I want the bill out of my name, I would have to pay the remainder of the contract up front which is $2700.00. Landlords beware...the bill never goes to your current address, just the tanant & APX will know if you're going into collections.
This has to be one of the worst companies to deal with as far as customer service goes. STAY AWAY! TAKE MY ADVICE...If a sales rep knocks on your door tell them to go away or you'll be next in line with complaints!

APX Alarm Company is destroying my life. Their representative told me I could end service after two years instead of 5 years and changed my copy of agreement with both our initials. Now five years later they have an attorney trying to sue me for the remainder three years saying I altered a federal document. Has anyone else experienced this?

This company scammed me almost the same way. I told them that I may turn my home into a rental and asked what would happen if I decided to get out of the contract and I was told that it was "just like a cell phone contract with a $150 early termination fee." When I did finally decide to get out of the contract I was told by the customer service that the only way that I could get out would be to pay the full term of the 60 month agreement in full. I'll never trust anyones word again. Always read the fine print, or pay someone else to. It will save you in the long run. I'm going to keep fighting but it's a losing battle since my name is signed on the dotted line. Never use APX alarms. Don't be fooled by all the money they're paying to get there fake "testimonials" and good reviews listed on the top of Yahoo. They're getting that money from dishonest business practices. Businesses like this never last. They may do fine for 10 years but look what happened to MCI.
