internet scam
On November 30th, I saw an ad for a free sample of a beauty cream as endorsed by Laura Ingraham. The ad stated that only a $3.95 charge for shipping and handling was to be assessed.
After giving personal information (phone, e-mail, address etc.) I went downstairs to access my credit card info when, in seconds, I received 2 calls from 1-855-431-8984. The person (Matthew) stated that I didn't complete the transaction for the free sample. I told him I was busy at the time and was quite alarmed that he obviously was monitoring my internet information in real time.
I should have listed to my instincts. I provided my credit card info, as this was a Christmas gift for my niece, and began the checkout when I saw multiple ads for other products which I summarily declined. I now became even more apprehensive and thought it best NOT to complete the process. I became even more suspicious when I didn't receive any e-mail from this company, so I called the same number and spoke to Matthew again. He told me that I would be charged $3.95 and then $110 within 14 days for a product that I had not seen in the original ad.
I, in no uncertain terms, told him to immediately cancel this process for the above and obvious problems with this company's practices. He refused my request, whereupon I asked to speak with a supervisor. Matthew told me that one would be available in 24-48 hours.
I again reiterated my wish to speak immediately with a supervisor, and, after several minutes, my call was disconnected. I couldn't wait 2 days for the "anticipated" call to argue my displeasure and apprehension about these unfair and misleading business practices.
I was leery about such an institution having the information at hand. As misfortune would have it, this fiasco happened on the weekend.
Upon further research, this internet scam by this company had received a record of numerous complaints. I filed with the BBB, FTC and AG's Office in Florida.
If you read this do as I did and help the other victims...
krasa anti aging cream
I clicked on the "free sample" of Kra'sa cream on 5/11/19. At the bottom of the page, however in very tiny print, I discovered it was entry into a subscription program involving $109 each month for an automatic delivery. I called Chase, my credit card company for advice (and shamefacedly admitted I was stupid for falling for a "free trial" thing anyway). The Chase rep said I had two options: Contact the seller & try to work it out...or have Chase cancel my card & issue me a new one to avoid any further charges by the seller. I tried to cancel immediately by calling the seller at 877 412-6830. A rep informed me that $3.95 would be charged to my acct. whether or not I wanted the cream delivered and that I had until 5/24 to cancel automatic deliveries after trying it. I just today called the above number & was luckier than many complainants in that I reached a rep. However, he insisted that the company never issued free samples & all he could do is give me a discount on the jar I received unless I sent back the jar to the company. I read about ongoing horror stories about that in this site, so I agreed he could charge my acct. for $51.50 with the understanding that I never hear from the company again. He "verified" that; and we'll see. I had no problem with the cream, but a BIG problem with anything that takes automatic payments from my charge card, even when it's because of my stupidity. It's great to have a site available like this one, I just wish I had read it first!
krasa
I apparently saw an add for the cream for shipping. I didn't see the 14 day trial or I wouldn't have finished the order. I can't find any email with my order on it. When I got it in the mail, I emailed several companies asking if it was atrial. Well, now I have a charge on my card. The only way I can get it off is to send it back and pay the shipping. They offered me an extension on the trail for 30days. What then? Still have to send it back?
