Did Not Fulfill Contract
We were on a contract price where it was their responsibility to keep our tank full and they didn't. The house is a vacation home and not occupied in the winter time. No heat on a cold night caused the pipes to freeze and burst. The they had the nerve to charge us a restocking fee and buy the gas back at a lower rate than what they sold it at. AmerGas and Heritage Propane are crooks and they don't care about their customers.
Misleading Pricing
Propane gas companie, including Heritage, have been luring consumers with advertising come-ons and telemarketing calls touting low prices for propane and related services, but charged customers above market prices.

I agree. Not only are their prices misleading, but their billing is confusing. They will send a bill telling you the amount outstanding and billing. And then later in the month send you a notice for any past due amounts claiming you total amount outstanding as of that day without including the amount currently billing. This wors in their favor as they charge a finance fee for all past due amount and a 6.00 statement fee. So if your past due amount was 20.00 at the time they send the statement you would owe 26.00 + finance charges on the 26.00.
They are ripping us off too!
Unauthorized charges
We have been customers of Heritage Propane for over five years. We were on 'monthly fill' the entire time - this is where they come out and check it and fill as needed.
Because of hard economic times, we requested that our service be put on 'Will Call' service. This is the service that requires us, the customer, to call when we get to a certain level and request gas. The penalty for running out of gas and requesting a fill 'off route' on a day that they are not scheduled to be 'in your area' is astronomical.
A little over a week of making this change, I sent my husband out to check the level of the gas, so we could avoid this charge for running out. He came in the house to report that the gauge that had been in the SAME SPOT over five years - was GONE. Now, who - I wonder - would gain from the gauge missing from our tank?
I called Heritage and spoke with the manager, who acted like I was stupid and claimed they wouldn't do something like that.
YEA, RIGHT!
We knew were were getting low, and they tried to insist they wouldn't fill less than 100 pounds, although we are being forced from our home due to foreclosure, won't need that much and can't AFFORD that much.
We finally got the jerk to say he'd come for 65 pounds (still more than we needed) and asked that they come when we are home so they can show us the stupid gauge.
Low and Behold! They came when we WEREN'T home and MIRACULOUSLY the gauge reappeared in the tank!
Beware of these people! Thankfully, we avoided disaster but I think what they are doing to people is plain WRONG!

This is a very dishonest company and they have bad business practices. They have owed me a refund for over $300 for over 3 months now. I disconnected service when we sold our house. For the last 3 months I have been told, "Yes, you do have a refund in that amount but your account is stuck in 'limbo' in our computer system and we are short staffed. We will work on it right away and call you back. Still no refund check and NO follow up calls as promised. This is a very shady business and I would highly NOT recommend using them.
I called to have them come out and fill up my tank and the lady asked me are you going to pay when they deliver. I asked do I have to and she said we have a new credit manager and if it's not paid in 30 days you're charged $36. I asked her if I've ever been late since I've been doing business with the company for 24 years. She said no mam but I want to know what does that have to do with anything. She acted all snappy like she's was doing me a favor. They are no giving us a deal anyway. I'm about to the point to tell them to come get their tank. I think they got mad when I told them not to come until I called them.
This article discusses how propane gas companies mislead customers over pricing

In my home in central Florida, my only gas appliances are a gas hot water heater and a fireplace. We don't use the fireplace more than 3 hours every couple of years. When we added a solar hot water heater a few years ago, we retained our gas water heater as backup for those winter and cloudy days where solar doesn't generate sufficiently hot water. Our gas usage dropped tremendously, yet Heritage Propane (apparently unaware of the installation of the solar water heater) had us on their "automatic" delivery system and kept charging us for about 60 gallons per quarter - the same rate prior to the solar system being installed! I put Heritage on "Will Call" and we haven't filled up our tank in nearly 2 years. Now that the gas level is getting low, Heritage wants to charge me a "Will Call" fee of $5+ per gallon when propane prices are hovering around $3.50/gallon.
AVOID HERITAGE PROPANE. These guys are scammers.
Heritage has been charging me a tank rental fee of $110 for 4 years now because I don't use enough gas. I only have a gas pack and 4 burner stove so I baryley use 150 gallons a year. I asked for a smaller tank but they require 350 gallons minimum a year to avoid the rental.
I called Amerigas and they will bring you the proper size tank and only require that you fill it up once a year. So I got a properly sized tank and no rental fee. Even if I didn't meet my minimum the rental fee is only $79.
I called Heritage with all of this info just to see if they would match it. The girl was was really nice and said that it sounded like a great deal, when do you want us to pick up our tank, and we will credit you the gas in the tank. So they are losing a customer and spending their money to come retrieve the tank PLUS credit me for approximately 200 gallons of gas which will more than cover the fill up fee on my new tank. Not a very smart company.
I agree completely! These people are some type of scammers...they took my cc and never came to fill me up! And then wouldn't refund my monies for about six weeks!
