BBB RATING C-....READ ME BEFORE HIRING
Hands down the absolute most ABYSIMAL move that I have ever experienced. While i have moved at least 6 times in the past 12 years most of that has been local. I have only had to hire one other cross country move and it went so smooth that I had lulled myself into a false sense of security regarding moving companies. I thought they would all do as fantastic of a job as the cross country move that I did just two years ago. I did not know that brokers such as Neighbors Moving and Storage even existed. THESE PEOPLE ARE BROKERS! NOT MOVERS! It is imperative that those of you reading this understand what that means as these people prey on those, like me, who were not aware of this fact and they, MOST CERTAINLY WILL NOT TELL YOU. I do blame myself for not doing a better job of researching this company before hiring them but, like most of you, I was under a time crunch and had too many things to try to accomplish in too short a time. I paid the price for that. After reading the pages and pages of similar stories on this site and on five other sites about this company, all similar to my story, I have decided not to bore you with the sordid details of this move. Issues such as crushed boxes resulting in broken items, FIVE (5) COMPLETELY DIFFERENT delivery windows that resulted in my delivery taking 26 entire days to arrive, damaged marble topped bedroom furniture (can you imagine the kind of abuse that it takes to break MARBLE corners off of furniture?!), etc., etc, . etc. Instead, I want to tell you the things that you need to know about brokers so that you are aware of how they operate.
1 - GET 5 QUOTES IN 5 MINUTES Websites - if you are like me you want to make the most efficient use of your time and energy when faced with a daunting cross county move. I thought it efficient to navigate to a mover site in which I enter my "From" and "To" zip codes and have quotes sent to me. What I now know is that these sites are monitored by BROKERS. So, if you use a site like that beware. You are being contacted by brokers!
2 - Brokers, like Neighbors Moving and Storage, will get you to sign in whatever way they can. As an example, I had negotiated NO STAIR CHARGES in my contract with Neighbors Moving and Storage. The actual movers, however, didn't care what I had negotiated with Neighbors Moving and Storage. (Read more about that below.) In addition, they will not tell you that they are a broker and that they are adding a fee for their "services". NOWHERE in my "contract" with Neighbors Moving and Storage did I see the words "Broker Fee". I only found this out when the ACTUAL MOVERS arrived at pickup and my balance did not match the balance that had been provided to me from Neighbors Moving and Storage. That was because of the $395 that they took to do nothing more than take my inventory, take my deposit, and hire a moving company that was BORDERLINE FRAUDULENT. That's it. That's all they do. You can hire an actual mover yourself and THEY will take your inventory for you; and do a MUCH BETTER job of estimating your cost! 3 - THE CONTRACT YOU SIGN WITH NEIGHBORS MOVING AND STORAGE BECOMES NULL AND VOID WHEN THE MOVERS ARRIVE AT PICK UP and shove a new one in your face. This is the most important item on this list! Whatever terms and conditions that you agree to when Neighbors Moving and Storage takes your money are SUPERCEDED by the actual moving company to whom they sell your load. If you negotiate things like no stairs, such as I did, that "agreement" holds absolutely no water to the mover. YOU WILL NOT BE PROVIDED WITH ANY OF THIS INFORMATION by Neighbors Moving and Storage. By the time that your pickup date arrives and they movers are there to load you find this out the hard way, as I did, and you will have absolutely no other option at that point but to sign. 4 - You have no control over the company to whom they sell your load AND NEITHER DO THEY. They sold my load to a company called "Unique Van Lines". OMG - I am not even going to get into the issues that ensued with this mover as I will be writing a separate review on them. This review is strictly about Neighbors Moving and Storage and what you need to know about brokers. Listed above are the 4 things that you need to know before hiring this company. PLEASE PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND HIRE AN ACTUAL MOVER! I'm convinced that the only reason that this company continues to exist is because they prey on those, like me, who do not know that brokers even exist nor how they work. Do not become another one of their victims! USE SOMEONE ELSE!
Moving
I called Neighbors Moving & Storage to have them move my stuff from NY to SC. I chose them because I am disabled and couldn't lift anything heavy, also I told the so called manager that I am on a fixed income. I told him that I only had $1400 to work with. He said that was not a problem. I gave him an itemized list of my belongings, I also called back each time I had to add things on the list. Everything was set, and I believed these LIARS. As soon as they got my deposit, things changed. When the movers showed up, the truck already had 2 other clients belongings in it. When they weigh "your stuff", they weigh all the clients stuff together, therefore overcharging you.(which is stealing) When they received my money everything changed, they wouldn't take my calls, or they would say please hold, and put me through to a mailbox that was full. Oh and the main complaint, they only brought me 1/2 of my stuff, leaving the other 1/2 in NY. Upon arrival, I had to pay an additional $245.00, as well as $1, 341 which they received upon picking up my stuff in NY. It was a stressful and total nightmare! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! They are LIARS, THIEVES, and DECIEVERS!

Do not use this company
Do not use this company! They will lie about price quotes and not stand by their word. I wish I had read the reviews, before I spent two hours of my time on the phone with them. It's all about the money with them. The manager is the worst ever! BEWARE! They go by three different names. (Neighbors, Nice Guys, and Olympian) Please read all complaints about these guys. Go on all three of their names on this site, review site and BBB. You will not believe all the crap these guys did. I guess my fight with the manager was a blessing in disguise, because I didn't end up using them.

Horrible Customer Service and unreliable
THIS WAS THE WORSE EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER HAD. THE SALES REP I SPOKE WITH WAS FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL BUT HE LEFT OUT INFORMATION ABOUT THERE HIDDEN FEES AND THERE "DEPOSIT" POLICY. THEY WERE SEVEN HOURS LATE, THE DISPATCHER WAS RUDE AND IGNORANT, WHEN I FIRST SPOKE WITH HIM HE SAID HIS NAME WAS RAY AFTER THAT HE DECIDED HE WOULD GO WITH PETER. THEY WERE LATE AND INCONSIDERATE. HE WENT ON TO CALL ME INSENTIVE AS WELL AS OTHER THINGS AND HUNG UP THE PHONE ON ME. WHEN THE MOVERS FINALLY SHOWED UP IT WAS AFTER 7 AT NIGHT AND THEY SHOWED UP A MAN SHORT THAN WHAT I AGREED TO THEN THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD TAKE MORE THAN 5 HOURS TO MOVE ME. DURING THE DAY I ALSO SPOKE WITH ANDRE WHO IS SUPPOSED TO BE A SALES MANAGER...I WAS LEFT WONDERING DO THEY HIRE LYING, UNEDUCATED CRIMINALS? I DECIDED THIS HORRIFIC COMPANY WAS NOT GOING TO GET MY MONEY. I FOUND ANOTHER MOVING COMPANY THAT SHOWED UP EXACTLY WHEN THEY SAID THEY WOULD, DID THE MOVE IN 2 AND 1/2 HRS, THEY WERE FRIENDLY AND CONSIDERATE.(THE SUNSHINE MOVING COMPANY).
THE TASK HAS BEEN ABOUT MY DEPOSIT REFUND FOR THESE AWFUL PEOPLE I SPOKE WITH BONNIE TWO DAYS AFTER MY MOVE AND SHE WENT ON TO INFORM ME THAT I CANCELLED MY MOVE SO I THEY WONT REFUND IT BUT SHE SAID SHE WOULD PUT IN A REQUEST FOR IT AND I SHOULD CHECK MY ACCOUNT IN 2 TO 3 DAYS. I CALLED BACK IN 3 DAYS SHE SAID THAT SHE DIDNT DO ANYTHING AFTER I SPOKE WITH HER. SHE SAID IT WASN'T HER RESPONSIBILITY...I MEAN REALLY? ANOTHER LIAR!
STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY...I WISH I NEVER CAME ACROSS THESE PEOPLE. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THESE PEOPLE!

Awful company
I shopped around and checked the prices of all denver area movers and neighbors moving and storage promised me the best price. I spoke with multiple people about the agreed upon price. Now that I am trying to get my belongings out of storage, they are trying to charge me $832 dollars more than the original agreement! keep in mind I am a single girl, with relatively small amount of belongings and furniture and I am doing a local move. So I offered to come pick up my stuff myself, and they are trying to charge me $530 dollars just to pick up my stuff! They have been extremely unresponsive, I had to leave 3 messages just to get someone to call me back to schedule my next move and now they expect me to pay a ridiculous amount of money just to access my stuff to move myself, even thought the agreement was that I had already paid for both parts of my move. And they were extremely late in coming to do my first move, and they never called and warned me about it. I was late to a meeting, and they acted like it was a regular occurrence for them.
Please don't ever use these guys, they seriously are criminals. I would like to know what to do in my situation. I am completely being taking advantage of, and I'm not sure what to do! please spread the word and don't make the same mistake I did!

I found out that we can send in our complaints to the Consumer Affairs Division in either Broward, Miami-Dade or Palm Beach. Visit your counties consumer services/affairs division for information (search online). They will complete an investigation. The department number for Miami-Dade is [protected]. I have contacted them and been informed how to place my compliant and what I would like to have done.
I am having very similar issues with Neighbors Moving and Storage. I used them for a move almost one year ago and I am still trying to obtain reimbursement for damaged items as the movers dropped my furniture down the stairs. After reading these complaints, I am seriously considering a lawsuit. If this happened to us, I can only imagine how many others it has happened to. I am going to contact the Better Business Bureau and I encourage you to as well. Time for retribution.
The initial sales pitch is good, yes and yes the price reasonable. What Neighbors Movers fail do tell you is they are not movers at all but a broker that resales your bid to other less than reliable movers. When do Neighbors tell you this, 2 days before your pick-up date. By then it's hard to find another mover and Neighbors promises to find a mover and it unfolds, oh you didn't know we only broker moves? Where is that in the ad or indicated in the contract. Even tho your initial contract specifies a day for pick-up, a storage location and a date for delivery. Once your contract is resold they wash their hands of the contract pocking the hefty fee leaving you at the mercy of another reseller who adds another finders fee and could less about your schedule saying they have a 5 day window for pickup and 7-21 day for delivery, yes two days prior to your commitment. If you want to pay more than the brand companies, love uncertainty, take time off from work and more time off from work, spend endless hours on the phone trying to contact someone about your move, good luck in the department, stress did I mention stress and guess what, the final delivery is subcontracted to a brand company - go with Neighbors. There advisement is 100% wrong - do NOT use!.
Real class act. I'm being sarcastic.
Helpful and insightful for the weeks prior to the actual move. Once booked, it was another story.
We were booked to move on the 30th of last month. Fine.
We called on the 29th to find out what time they would come the next day. Oops. We haven't found a truck for the area. Maybe on the 31st.
We were asurred that the movers would come on the 31st and we should not worry.
On the morning of the 31st, oops no movers...maybe on the first. But wait..our lease is done on the 31st and we have to move. Sorry..maybe the 1st.
We called the "head" of long distance services.
HE: ( annoyed at my inquiry) Sorry sir, we don't have any trucks in Philadelphia.
ME: Um. we're in Pittsburgh.
HE: Fine! We don't have anything in Pennsylvania
He promptly hung up on me.
Long story short, we had to cancel our contract. God knows if we see our deposit. We had to book a Uhaul that day and rush our whole apartment in a span of five hours.
Thanks Neighbors. Expect a call from the Better Business Bureau.
Not that this will be a surprise to anyone, but THESE GUYS ARE CROOKS!
My local move was grossly under quoted and when I was told of an 18% transportation service charge and I explained that it was not disclosed in the quote, the "dispatcher" Josh (aka the OWNER) on the phone told the mover "If that guy doesn't pay you, lock his [censor] up in storage and then he'll pay me." This is all after I spoke with Josh and he told me he didn't have the authorization to waive the fee and would have to speak to someone on Monday about it. HE OWNS THE COMPANY! But still he tried playing it off like he was just a dispatcher. He told me "I'm not putting my job in jeopardy just so you don't have to pay something that all our customers pay. Call back on Monday and we'll review the sales tapes and, if the charge was not disclosed to you on the call, your CC will be refunded." Well, needless to say, I've been calling all day and have been put on hold, transferred, or just hung up on by Josh himself, some [censored] named Cody and was told that the sales person I dealt with "doesn't work in the home-move division, so you must be mistaken." Grade-A A-holes!
I am still recovering from a Horrendous experience with Neighbors Moving & Storage 10 days ago. Their salesman quoted me a rate of 4 hours @ $108/hr -- I thought that sounded about right. I was going from a 2-bedroom condo in Aurora to a 2-bedroom apartment in Centennial. I paid a $100 deposit in advance. I figured I'd owe maybe $350-400 more.
Well, these guys were the slowest movers I've ever seen and just plain STUPID. They did a lot of things the slow way and the hard way. So it took 6 1/2 hours. They also don't TELL YOU about the $250 transportation and diesel fuel surcharge either. So instead of $350 -- they wanted over $900 ! I then argued on the phone with the dispatcher to haggle it down to $788. Well, that amount didn't clear my debit card because I didn't have that much in my account at the time -- so they refused to unload anything else and LEFT ! I took 8 days to get the rest of my furniture and boxes after I argued with a higher level manager and we settled for around $600.
Then, the icing on the cake, not only did they refuse to re-assemble my large L-shaped computer desk, they broke both doors on my entertainment center and I am missing shelves from my tall solid oak bookshelf. I called them and asked them where are my bookshelves -- surprisingly I have not heard back!
This moving company is unscrupulous, unethical, unprofessional, uncaring and runs itself like a mafioso company! Their way or the highway! Put the word out to everyone you know -- do NOT use Neighbors Moving & Storage...ever !
Truly bad moving company. Save yourself the headache and do not use them. They are not qualified movers. It took them SEVEN hours to move a 2 bdrm apt. into storage. They didn't even break a sweat until the 5 hour. They damaged walls during the move. Didn't care about my "fragile" boxes as they'd put multiple boxes on top of the fragile ones. Were not careful with those boxes whatsoever. Some of my items are broken such as a lamp (which they tried to hide by sticking the broken piece in a trash can). Unbelievable.
We just used Neighbors for a move from Colorado Springs to Parker. The guys were nice enough, but inexperienced to say the least. I almost threw up when I went to unpack my wedding crystal and saw that every piece was wrapped in paper, and all my crystal was stacked on top of each other in a box (NOT a beverage box - the kind with the individual sections for glasses) and then other items were stacked on top of my crystal! It's a miracle that only one glass was broken. They also used my good linen napkins to wrap some of my breakable items in, because they didn't have any bubble wrap with them.
They damaged a number of items, including big scratches to the foot board of our bed, cracked a wood support frame on our son's crib and then tried to hide it by using tape to put it back together, scratched up a frame on one of our wedding photos (that one made me FURIOUS) because they didn't pack it right, disassembled our son's swing set and then misplaced a bunch of the bolts so it's sitting in our backyard, half put together, and they were using one of my good Henckel's knives to cut things with!
They also took our $400 Ralph Lauren comforter and tried to throw it loose, along with our bed pillows, in the back of the nasty, dirty truck. I caught that one and told them that they needed to be put in a box. I mean, come on! How stupid can you be? (and by the way, I was on bedrest during this time for my pregnancy, so I couldn't supervise what they were doing).
There are a number of other things that they did that really made us mad, but all in all, we got NOTHING in return from Neighbor's for the number of items that were damaged. Their claims policy is AWFUL - you're responsible for paying the first $500 in repairs. What a joke. I wish my husband had read the contract better, because we wouldn't have used Neighbor's if we had known how crappy they are.
Scam and cheating
First off, let me say I am not one to write about poor service or for that matter good service. However, after thinking about it, I could not let it go un-noticed. I chose Neighbors moving because a friend of mine worked there, which I didn't know until they called me after my on-line search. He said, do not worry, everything will go alright and that you...
