I purchased a weed eater at the end of 2009. It has never worked properly. I took it back to Home Depot and it was replaced with another one that did not work properly. I called their customer service number and was told to take the weed eater to their warranty repair store. I have taken it four times and each time I was assured that it had been repaired, only to find out that it had not been. I have gotten no use from this product because it has never worked properly. I contacted their Corporate Office and was told to do what I had already done. This company is continuing to sell a product that they know does not work. Do NOT purchase any product made by Ryobi. It is an expensive and inferior product. It will be a complete waste of your money.

I also bought a 2nd Ryobi weedeater after the first one wouldn't run and it too would not run. After struggling with it for a year I finally got a little satisfaction and smashed it over a tree. Try it, other than the thought of getting ripped off it feels good.

Unforunately, we have experienced the same with our Ryobi weedeater. It drains the battery after running for a few minute (literally) and weed eater begins to smoke.

In June/2010 I purchase the equipment referenced above for personal home use. The 3rd time I used this trimmer it failed due to shearing of the part you guys call "big gear assembly" (the part that transfers engine motion to the blade assembly". Since it was still under warranty I took it to local service center and they made repairs. A technician at this Authorized Service Center (Duluth, GA) told me that this machine wasn't built for using on a regular basis...? I really didn't know how to respond to the statement so I didn't.

This past week I made my first attempt to use trimmer since receiving it back from Service Center (almost 2 years since purchase date). Was having trouble keeping engine running so I made an inspection and found that suction & return fuel lines between carburetor & tank had both dry-rotted despite purging fuel from system prior to storage. I replaced lines and tried using again today. Just when I was getting the engine to where it would stay running in idle the pull cord would not retract. Disassembled and found that teeth on the plastic starter pulley were completely worn and the retaining hardware was ripped from their mounts.

I've never owned a yard machine that has so quickly proved to be substandard quality. This is the first Ryobi tool I've owned and will possible be my last. I'm sure you can understand, given my experience, I have no reason to spend my money on another piece of equipment manufactured by Ryobi. Sure, it's possible that I just got lucky and ended up with a lemon...never-the-less, this experience leaves me feeling frustrated and ripped-off .

I also purchased a Ryobi weed eater on June of 2012. The weed eater has never worked like it should and now it won't even start, in less than a year thus thing has given me more headaches than I can think. Don't waste your time and money stay away from the ryobi brand and also Home Depot who continues to sell this trash even though they know themselves that's a defective weed eater. They also give you the run around when you take it back to them.

These machines are absolute crap. I have had three of the 2 cycle and three of the 4 cycle power heads. All stopped working after the 4th to 6th cut. All crap. Stay away from ryobi/home life machines. CRAP!

We also purchased a Ryobi string trimmer, the 4 cylinder one uses straight gas. This was not cheap and now we found out only less than a year later it is worthless! The timing gear snapped, it is made of plastic, can't be purchased any place and when Ryobi was contacted they stated it wasn't that expensive, would need an entire motor replaced cheaper to go buy another! Come on! Seriously! A product such as this should last over one year! They should have to replace them with something that works.

I purchased the ryobi thinking this was a good product, boy was I wrong. Home Depot had taken it in for service, in the mean time I had bought a second one while the first one was in the shop. As soon as I got the fixed one back the second trimmer blew the clutch ears off, so I ordered all new clutch assembly and fixed myself. One year later I'm doing the same thing, in exception they don't make the clutches any more they are discontinued. So now what. This product really should be discontinued all together.

I just threw a bunch of cash at repairing a Ryobi power head that is almost five years old. Before the warranty was up, the machine wouldn't start. So, I took it back to Home Depot. I was told it was fixed (after they had it for three months) - but it never started again. Thus the reason I took it to a small engine mechanic. He rebuilt the carburetor and replaced the fuel lines. And then, he found out there was no engine compression. The ring was shot probably due to this model not having an air filter over the breather. I will never buy another Ryobi product.

I agree 100%. I purchased an expensive 24 volt weed wacker approximately 3 years ago. I have used it maybe 5 times on small areas. I went to recharge the battery and of course it is dead. Called the company and even though they have had numerous complaints about their batteries they refuse to help in any way. They told me shelf life was 3-5 years. I guess I would only buy any other products if you plan to use all the time. They are not good for casual use. I should not have to remember to charge the battery once a month to keep it working. Disappointed.

I have buying your products for years at least 15 or more! Then you came out with the 18 volt 18V Lithium Ion Batteries and the chargers have burnt them out .I live in the Northeast New Hampshire! We only have a three to four months of use of the out door products that I have a long with there drills and combo products. I have older kids in there thirties have asked me what to buy .I SAY DO Not Buy . Go with Dewald or Craftsman. I talked to a Rep of to return the bats that I purchased and was told that if I did not buy a tool with the bats I'm out of luck .They have been selling old 18V Lithium Ion chargers that burn out there batteries, and then charge you for there $39.00 for there Bad Engineering of a simple problem. THAT SHOULD HAVE HAD A RECALL. But no you just have to buy the charger that was there Big Time Screw up, and they still sell those useless chargers that will burn out your power tools .ITS UNREAL.I WOULD NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM RYOBI IN THE Future OR WOULD HAVE MY KIDS OR FRIENDS. Another Bad Product from HOME DEPOT !

After having a stroke I needed a light weight battery string trimmer---Well I got the Ryobi 18V easy edge! MISTAKE!
It has never worked right when it came to the auto feed! I have NOT had one spool of string that has not been so messed up I have trouble pulling it with my hand. I have to take the cap off and pull out the string with my hand!
Never will buy or recommend a Ryobi anything.

We use their products maybe once or twice at home. The charger dies and out warranty. For the amount of use, they should listen to the customer and acknowledge ownership in their quality.

The collection bag is impossible to clean. Tried shaking, air pressure, and vacuum. Is there a way to get the debris off short of hand picking piece by piece.

Is there a replacement bag made out of a different material.

Thank you,

R. Halliday
