Can’t Praise This Too Highly!
This guitar learning app is simply amazing. I am 62 years old and re-learning to play after a 36 year break! I remember nothing. It’s like I have never played before.
This app is actually fun. A very Small learning curve to get started. I am 62 not 42. but a highly responsive support team had me up and going in a very short time.(minutes)
It actually has me giggling inside when after learning One simple chord it has us “jamming” along with a pre-recorded song.
What a hoot! I can see this being very motivating to kids and teenagers too but it’s fun also for senior citizens (me)
Every time I do something right the app makes a fun sound and gives me a check. I’d play for hours if my fingers did not start hurting.
Speaking of that…once I did not practice for several days (over my hurt fingers) and someone reached out to me to ask what was up?! Amazing!
I explained I am waiting to switch to nylon strings…..but in the meantime it got me to pick up and at least do 5 minutes per day…..until I get my new strings.
I am only motivated to learn to play chords to a rhythm so I have a portable instrument to sing to. I play piano but it’s not very portable….even a “portable” one. . Guitar is perfect for such portability. I feel confident with this learning app I’ll be able to learn to play to at least an advanced beginner level…which is my goal.
Very Well Thought Out! Kudos!
Amazing app, totally recommend ! Thank you SimplyGuitar !
If you want to learn guitar then get SimplyGuitar. The current lessons that SimplyGuitar has provided have taught me so much in such a short amount of time ! SimplyGuitar makes learning the guitar enjoyable, relaxing and fun ! I feel like I am learning so fast with SimplyGuitar and faster than with physical guitar lessons, YouTube, or any other app. The biggest benefit of SimplyGuitar is that if you buy premium it is the cheapest that I have found for any apps on the market and the lessons are structured like they would be in a physical guitar lesson but you can go at your own pace. You can learn so much in such a short amount of time when you can’t do that as well with physical guitar lessons, not to mention that you can learn the guitar in the comfort of your own home with simply guitar rather than having to drive to guitar lessons. You can take SimplyGuitar anywhere you go and SimplyGuitar has the structure of physical lessons that YouTube cannot provide. The video clips that are in between lessons are entertaining and humorous and make the experience that much more enjoyable while being very informative and helpful at the same time ! The menu and user interface for SimplyGuitar is very inviting and fun ! I 100% recommend SimplyGuitar to anyone who is trying to learn the guitar and they make it very easy by allowing you to try it out by starting the first lesson for free right off the bat ! I can’t wait for more lessons to be pushed out ! Thank you SimplyGuitar !
Update: Perfect!
Update: I got this to work, I’m not sure how I just did it again so maybe the 30th times a charm? But this app is amazing. The lessons are very engaging and I love the way that you can get instant feedback by just playing. This really helps me to see what I’m doing wrong and fix it I really love is that aspect of the app but everything else is amazing too. One idea/thing I wish you guys could change would be to have more videos because now it seems like I’m just practicing the notes. The videos are really fun and I would like more. Also it would be fun if you guys could have different ability levels for songs like you could search a song and select your ability level for some songs and it would change what you need to play for the song so you can play more songs when you’re still a beginner. Other than that this is amazing and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn guitar.
OK, let me just start by saying that this app is completely and perfectly fine except for one thing. The lessons and recording seems engaging and fun and I feel like I’m learning a lot but I subscribed and it’s not unlocking any of the things that it said it would unlock. I’ve tried deleting the app and re-download it, I’ve tried checking my profile, I’ve tried doing it over and over again. Nothing works and I’m really frustrated because I paid all this money for this and now it’s not working. Please somebody tell me how to fix this or I’m deleting this for good. I’ll learn some other way because I’m not gonna put up with an app that won’t give me my full money’s worth.
Poor teaching
Never in my life have I written a review for an app on the App Store before, however I felt highly inclined to write this one. This app is so horribly bad at teaching someone who is new to the instrument. I have over 18 years of music experience and I can say firsthand this is not how a beginner should learn.
This app rushes users through the chords and notes at such an alarmingly fast rate that none of the knowledge is retained. It simply is made short term so that you remember for 5 minutes then forget about it later. Furthermore, the app uses the devices microphone to “detect” how accurately a student is playing the notes. This feature is nonfunctional, it simply listens for any amount of sound that is even remotely close to the note one is supposed to be playing. It often does not detect when the correct note is played, or it simply continues the lesson even if the note played by the student was completely incorrect.
Finally, the app uses a play along song feature to “teach” students songs, however this is easily the most frustrating feature. The app makes students play background chords over simplistic songs and has students play along at certain timing. However because the microphone feature of the app is so bad, it can not detect the time when you play the notes with the song. Because of this you will be punished for playing on time, or be forced to rewind several measures in the song and start the endless loop of frustration all over again.
I’m sure no one will see this review. It will either be deleted or buried amongst the hundreds of fake 5 star reviews, but if you happen to see this, and are a brand new guitar learner like me, take my word for it: DO NOT USE THIS APP.
Can’t even play much
I have been taking guitar lessons for a couple months now (from a real person) and decided to get this app so I could learn more on my own. I had been progressing quickly and thought by using this app I could learn songs that I simply didn’t have time to learn during my lessons once a week. As someone who loves hard rock and metal music, this app wasn’t for me. I have been tuning my guitar down half a step for quite some time so I could play along with recordings of my favorite songs. A lot of heavy metal bands tune down half a step. This app doesn’t have any way of playing down half a step, so I was forced to either use a capo or move everything up one fret. This wasn’t so much of a problem when I was playing melodies, but it required me to play extremely hard bar chords. I eventually decided to make a diy capo (since I didn’t own one at the time), but it was still more complicated. On top of that, I couldn’t play my favorite songs without paying and the songs I could play were not the original versions. They were song by other singers and were not tuned down half a step like the originals. This app could definitely teach you some basics, but it will never be able to take the place of a teacher. I actually learned more in the half an hour before my first real guitar lesson (from my dad teaching me, who plays electric bass) than I learned in half an hour from this app. It also simple doesn’t have the capability of really teaching you since there isn’t a real teacher to help and correct you when you make mistakes. It is a nice idea, but if you want to play guitar (especially if you want to make a career out of it) please get a real teacher. They may cost more, but they teach more too.
Problems solved
Ok, I’m not that smart but I’m a thinker. I’ve had guitars since 17 and now 53. Frustrated by many years with mental barriers and playing blocks. Simply Guitar came along and why not try another.
This app is great for beginners. I went through each lesson meticulously and it will have you practice notes and chords until your sick of them. But, you’ll be grateful for the mental muscle memory it builds for those chords as you progress. The biggest issue I have had and I read in the reviews is the mic not recognizing notes or chords and holds you back until completing them. Here’s a couple easy fixes I found along the way and they are on the users end:
1. Practice in a sterile environment. Remove all background noise. TV’s, radios, kids, barking dogs etc.
2. Turn down your lesson volume on your own phone. This impedes the mic picking up your guitar sound. (My #1 issue)
3. Best remedy: Buy a nice head set. $100 spent was well worth the money. Plug in your phone, the mic then only hears your guitar. This solution is solid on acoustic or electric playing. I’ve done both. Frustration, eliminated.
Back to the lessons: great quality, excellent presentation, applicable, steady progress realized.
Here’s the kicker, for both advanced players and Simply. This is truly a beginners app. There is enough learned to keep coming back, but Simply needs advanced level lessons. Simply has taught me enough to understand how to grab another app and move on, but I’d prefer to stay right here with Simply. The teaching style and methods are perfected for any style. Thank you Simply for that.
Side note (Pun): Got the kids on Simply Piano and progress there is also amazing! Keep up the good work and make some advanced levels for us folks that make it to the end!
Good but flawed
Let me start by saying I’m a longtime user of Simply Piano, which I love and use every day with MIDI connect. That physical cord makes a huge difference in note recognition. Unfortunately, the iOS mic and speaker aren’t up to the task in that app or in Simply Guitar (using iPhone 11 Pro or iPad Pro). And when note recognition isn’t working, it really ruins any sense of timing, progression, or achievement. To a far lesser extent, buffering on longer learning tracks and delayed input can also derail a session.
Despite that, when it works the product is so rewarding and compelling to fast-track learning that I’m giving it four stars. I also use Fender Play, MuseScore and Ultimate Guitar Tabs but none feels as interactive or reactive to your playing (though Fender is trying with some Beta features).
Some things that have helped (their engineering team did not help, though Levy has tried to work with me): Use the cleanest electric setting you can, ideally through a single coil pickup. Use headphones to reduce interference. Put the phone mic close to your sound source.
My acoustic is what it is, works so-so but not a great instrument anyway. My Tele plugged into an Orange Amp was really not working. Then I got a tube screamer pedal to boost the sound levels and that helped quite a bit. And when I got a compressor pedal to even out the levels (especially the quiet 6th string) and clean up the clarity, that made a huge difference.
I’m really hoping they can figure this out or get something like iRig working for physical connection and MIDI, because that would solve so many frustrations (I have an iRig and it crashes the program). I may try out other apps if they can’t solve this, which is a true shame. But it’s a great app to progress quickly from scratch if you can get the setup tuned right.
Great customer service, but can’t move on in app
Update: While my review below stands in-so-much as the glitch, the response and care from Custer service was superb. I was unable to use the app as intended and was promptly refunded. I use the SimplyPiano app and it works great and the method of teaching in these apps is excellent! They are working on the recognition issue, and I will check back periodically if the problem has been resolved. Original review:I wanted to love this app because I have their piano app and it works great. My problem is that no matter what I do it will not recognize when I open Strum. (Yes I have done all the troubleshooting and I even sent a video to the developers for them to see that I am doing everything correctly ) It recognizes the chords and I can even play along with one of their songs and it recognizes chords, but when I’m doing the actual lessons it will recognize the chord but not the open strum and I can’t move on in the lessons so the app is useless. I can tell that the format of the app is very good but it has a glitch in recognizing and I have been working with customer service but so far I just keep getting answers that they are “working on it.” I paid for a full year subscription and I’ve only been able to use it for one day as soon as I got to the part where they wanted an open Strum to move on I had to quit using it. I think a year subscription to only use it for one day is not quite worth () it I will update my review if this gets resolved or I can get a refund. They did offer to extend my subscription to make up for the time lost but I don’t know how long this is going to take to resolve and from some of the other reviews it seems recognition issues when they are in the beginning of the app with the “E“ is the same place I’m having problems except mines not on the E chord it is on the open strum.
HGH IT DOES NIT WORK

Good app but issue on string focus
Writing this review because I didn’t see my particular issue cited in the recent ones. For the developers: This is more about learning content than app functionality. For context, I bought a month’s subscription, so I’m past the first lesson. I’m on a regular acoustic guitar with steel strings. I was a novice player in the past and know some music theory - this app was to help me pick guitar back up during quarantine (never thought I’d put that word in an app review).
First the good:
1) Teacher is great: Right amount of cheesy and technical.
2) Immediate gratification of playing parts of some songs and understanding how what you’ve learned fits into songs you know.
3) The sound pick up (when it works) is an incredibly helpful learning tool.
Now, the frustrating:
1) Like most people I’ve had some issues getting the phone to pick up notes, I’ll give feedback through the app as suggested by the developers.
2) WAY too much focus on the high strings early on. These hurt when you’re developing calluses and (likely) pressing too hard. I’m not sure if this was done because they thought people wouldn’t have the finger strength for the thicker strings? Maybe more people use nylon than I thought? Or maybe people just do the lessons once instead of repeating them like I do for practice. There is a small mention on calluses at the beginning but there should be more spread focus on the strings and more advice on callus development.
3) There should be some fundamentals (like scales or exercises with a metronome) which I know sounds SUPER uncool but maybe they could be optional or recommended (so they won’t lose the users who need immediate gratification). I looked these up on you tube.
Overall I absolutely recommend this app and am writing this review more in the hope that this is helpful for content development than to be critical.
Rock On
I hate this app
Me being an 11-year-old girl I got a guitar for my birthday my birthday is in November now it’s June I been looking for an app to help me play guitar so I found this one on a YouTube ad I go onto the app it says it’s completely free then I go through all the steps and I learn E minor and stuff like that but now trying to play frozen for my little cousin it won’t let me it’s saying I have to pay $200 a year just to play a few little songs which in my perspective is ridiculous all I want to do is learn how to play guitar not paid $200 fee just to play a few different songs I’m not looking for a new app or I’m just gonna learn off of YouTube the stuff I could learn on SimplyGuitar I could easily learn of YouTube I thought simply guitar would be better simply because there’s stuff like tuning in the chords but now I realize that it’s just a waste of time and money I’m done with SimplyGuitar I do not recommend this app for any other people who want to play I am a child and I know the concept of money it’s not that easy to pay $200 a year just to learn how to play guitar Think about it this way if you want to learn how to play guitar for five years it’s going to be $1000 which I know doesn’t seem like that much considering it’s only $200 a year but honestly it really is he don’t have a bunch of income my mother is a teacher and my dad is about to be a teacher with two parents to teach it’s not that easy to pay $200 a year with food bills and other necessities I have two siblings one who is a toddler he is in need of a lot so it’s not that easy for the price for me unless I find a way to pay $200 a year to my parents I’m not using SimplyGuitar and SimplyGuitar just robbed you have your money and time when you can easily when the stuff on another app or go on YouTube I highly suggest a different app or a different website do not use SimplyGuitar
A bunch of problems
I had this app a long time ago, so I can't remember everything, but I still remember a bunch of stuff..
So I downloaded the app, did the type of music I like, etc etc, but then it started glitching out..
I started the lesson and it showed me how to place your fingers and stuff but, it didn't tell me ONE thing ( my sibling who knows about the guitar more than I do told me this) to NOT play the guitar with the top half, half the time I was practicing the cords, it didn't say that at all!
Next, I did the things with the mic how to tighten it up, and it was showing me the wrong way.. It took FOREVER to make it "perfect"..
Then it was time to actually play, simple right? It's in the name, NO. I had my door closed didn't have any music or anything in my background, but the moment I missed a chord it said I used the wrong one? So I'm like, "ok this might be a glitch" but then I do a different song after finishing that one, and I wasn't playing to test that out, and it said it was right or wrong when I wasn't playing..
Overall, it's a great app, but I won't HIGHLY recommend it if you were a beginner at guitar, but if you knew the right things to do like how to tighten it, the correct hand movements, etc etc, but I won't recommend.
(Random information, Read if you WANT) The reason I gave it a 1 instead of a 2 or at least 3, is because how it glitches out a lot, and it isn't the best for a beginner, I will say, it is better than s YouTube video to learn guitar I admit it, but, I won't give a point for that because of the issues, and I doubt you could learn guitar in a week (probably just to promote it anyways) but, BUT, Just in a week is kinda to quick, if your like me, your lazy, busy, etc, it might take a month or a year or two, but if you're always free and never need to do anything there's a slight chance a tiny chance.. You can learn guitar in a week, but don't be like, " oh than that's why you give it a one star because your lazy?" or, "oh just spend your free time learning guitar" NO. I would do it if I had at least 5 hours or something kinda big, but with the app it just makes me stress.. Roast me all you want, call me a cry baby, But the app just makes me SO stressed out.. But again, it's a good app I wouldn't say the best app, but it's a DECENT app. That doesn't earn my extra star but it's DECENT
I love this app, but check your coding
I have always wanted to learn guitar. I have one that was just sitting in my bedroom. And, when I saw an add for Simply Guitar, I was ecstatic! I was so excited when I saw Simply Piano, and I was even happier when I saw Simply Guitar. I was really excited for an app like this. One that doesn’t just jump into things and one that actually listens to you playing. Other apps weren’t working for me. I would quickly lose hope because the instructors would jump into the lessons and they would move very quickly. I get like I couldn’t do it and would give up. Resulting in a loss of interest. When I saw Simply Guitar, I downloaded it immediately. I was doing great and I was happy and hopeful that this app might be different. I was getting through the lessons and finishing them with ease. I was very excited to learn chords. I got to the Em chord and did the lesson. When I got to the play along part, the app would never pick up what I was playing. I knew I was doing it right because I had remembered all of the things the instructor said and was implementing them while playing. I would correct myself when I did something wrong and take time to fix my mistake. So, I thought it mig be a volume problem. I remember one of the three tips was to take the phone out of its case. So, I popped it out of the cause and positioned it so it was sitting on the case so it was hens up by the pop socket connected to the cause. I brought my phone closer to me and started strumming my louder. It still only picked up what I was playing a few times. It brought me back to the start at least four times. My fingers were starting to hurt from pressing down on the strings and I was starting N to get really frustrated. I remember the instructor talking about the strings ringing out, so I pressed harder on the strings. It still didn’t work. So, I exited the app to come look at the reviews praying that I was the only one with this problem because I love thy is app so much and it would be a shame if I couldn’t go any further because of a bug or something. Sure enough, I saw another reviews from someone having the same problem. I was pretty upset about this. But, I’ll keep trying I guess. Just a heads up to anyone who’s thinking about getting this app, I wouldn’t. It is a really super great app, but unless you wanna spend a month trying to pass the first chord, don’t download. I hope to is review was helpful. Have a good day!
Not quite 5 stars - but worth it. Give it a go!
Why is everyone complaining that it isn’t a free app? How else would a company employ people to continue to make a product? Anyway, it’s worth the money - but with a few major caveats. Buckle up - it’s a ride.
Do not - under any circumstances - pay for a very long subscription length (like a year) I finished all available courses PLUS two new ones that came out with a three month subscription playing one hour a day a few times a week (I’m an adult - can’t say if a kid would learn faster or more slowly, but you know what they say about old dogs and new tricks? But also kids have tiny hands? I don’t know…anyway…)
I started from scratch, having never played before in my life. I tried to get as far as I could in the 7 day free trial and this helped me understand that the smallest subscription length would be perfect for me to finish all of the content.
Pros:
- I learned quickly, saw great progress and felt achievement as I progressed. (I went back and forth between the lead and the chord paths so that by the legend sections I was ready for more).
- the music selection isn’t deep with a massive catalogue BUT it is varied with selections from all sorts of genres - even Disney tunes (which I hated, but hey - you might love it). Unfortunately, you will need to play through some songs that you don’t like, but once you’ve “passed” them, you don’t have to play them again and can focus on your favorites in the library.
Cons:
- as others have mentioned, sometimes note and chord recognition is poor. Try using headphones. My AirPods significantly improved this when I had issues. Otherwise, just keep practicing. Maybe you really are doing it wrong or hitting the wrong timing (sorry!)
- there aren’t “levels” of songs, so If you LOVE a song, don’t expect to progress and play it over time. This is a big negative and should be rectified because some of the great songs are used early on and then…you play one chord over and over and never get to profess. There are *somewith different versions, but there’s no sort function to see that.
-not enough content to make a long-term subscription worth it - even though they’re continuously coming out with more. Not is it enough to have you feel confident that you’re a solid guitar player who can strum along to songs with basic chords that aren’t in the app. Yes, You’ll build a foundation, but you won’t be solidly expert or even able to play on your own outside of the app or by reading tabs/chords without significant practice that the app can’t assist with.
- could play very well in the app but couldn’t do anything else - so had to supplement my learning with other apps that are also paid + videos, and just messing around with tabs and chord charts
COMPARISON TO OTHER APPS: Honestly, Yousician didn’t guide me enough with tutorial videos or drills (not enough teaching/practice) while Simply Guitar nailed this part, but didn’t go deep enough on the content side to really challenge the skills it teaches- SO with the two combined, I feel pretty good. (Specific example - couldn’t get fingerpicking down in Yousician until the fingerpicking course in simply guitar. Sadly, it was short and sweet and not very in depth BUT it was EXACTLY what I needed to get the hang of it so I could do more challenging pieces in the other app).
Lastly- things that feel hard get easier. I used to think the c chord was impossible. Now it’s easy. Then the g was hard. Now it’s probably my favorite to play. The app certainly will help you make progress on all of the major ‘cowboy chords’!
Tl;dr is it worth paying for? Yes. But the shortest length you can pay for - and use it like crazy to get the most out of it and get as far as you can in the time you have. You’ll build a good base! Supplement your learning with other apps, YouTube videos etc
Ps - If you’re complaining that it isn’t free - go to YouTube and stop clogging up reviews. This goes for literally every app.
Simply Guitar - Learn Guitar Complaints 13
Expensive for no reason
This app has no use. It picks up notes poorly and after just one lesson you have to pay 60 dollars for just 3 months. Most people don't have 160 dollars a year to pay for a buggy guitar subscription. This app has so much potential but it’s ruined by greedy developers. When it does pick up the sound it works very well. So many more people would use it if you could use it for free. A suggestion I have is a energy type system. Like after a lesson there was a cool down, of maybe a day or so. Then with premium subscription there was no cool down. Thats my idea. Buy if your going to force people to pay so much money, than just make people have to pay to download it. When it says its free in the app store or play store, that is a dead lie. Thanks for reading so hopefully you'll consider my idea or make it free-er to use.

No $ = No Lesson
I wish apps like this would be transparent and tell you that you will only get a small sample of the app and when that is finished users will have to purchase a subscription to continue on. Many other music apps have a free version that allows you to continue on with limited content. I would definitely go back to using this app even if it was limited content moving forward. At this point it’s just taking up space and I have no use for it.
Also, it seems like a cop out when the reply to comments like this are “we offer subscription so we can supply good content” blah blah blah. If they would offer limited (and ongoing) content for free AND offer individual songs to purchase for $0.99 here and there, the app could easily make money. I would purchase individual songs here and there if it was offered.
Food for thought.

Why!?
This app (for now) is not the app for someone who knows the basics and basic chord strumming techniques and stuff. I am 13. I already know many chords such as: C,A,Am,E,Em,F,D,and Dm, but I wanted to improve, and I CANNOT explain to you how frustrating it is to have to pay premium to be able to move on. So I am sorry but this is given 2 stars because of my skill level and me wanting to be able to improve but cannot because I have to pay to be able to improve and move on. I would at least would love 5-10 free lessons to improve. I am sorry but this app helped me in the beginning but I can’t improve anymore I am going to have to teach myself somehow which won’t be fun. I know I have been ranting this whole time but I hope these developers read this I am just a little bit frustrated it’s great for beginners but not for intermediates.

Not worth the money
I got simply piano free with a piano purchase and in 2 weeks I feel I am progressing very well on the piano. I saw the simply guitar app and as much as I like their piano app I thought it would be great too. It’s similar but with much less content and the feedback is nowhere near as good. I miss a note, play the wrong note or chord, or just make noise and it shows I played it correctly. I play a note or chord perfectly and sometimes it shows I missed it. With the piano app I feel like I’m playing music, with this app I just feel like I’m making noise. Needs way more refinement and content to be on the level of simply piano
*Update*
I have now completed everything on this app in less than a month. I paid for a year subscription so it basically cost me $90 for one month. At the end of this I still have not played a complete song. What’s the point?

Discouraging garbage app
I play guitar and I thought I could use this app on the side to help improve my skills. I selected that I was intermediate skill level but they still think I don’t know how to play smoke on the water, or even know what frets are. It’s recording is terrible and even when I’m playing correctly they still don’t hear it. And, if you mess up 2 times, they take you back in a song by 10 seconds making you repeat. If I had started with this app, I would have felt discouraged and thought I wasted my money buying a guitar. The ads are lies, it’s not fun, they don’t even teach you songs. Just basic cords that sound good with it. This app is terrible and I suggest you either continue your guitar journey through videos, lessons, or teach yourself. The only 2 reasons I would give it a 1 star review is that 1. I can’t give it less than one and 2. It’s free with no ads.

Not so great for beginners
I’ve just gotten an electric guitar and I’ve never actually picked up a guitar and actually learned to play. The first lessons were good and I felt like I was doing okay, but when I tuned the guitar it would change without me changing the tuning at all, and when I got to em I kept getting it marked wrong. I got frustrated because I was strumming the same way every time but it would always mark two wrong. Granted I’ve never played but I checked each string individually to make sure none of them were muted and I was still being marked wrong, and when I got to the song every time I tried it just kept marking me wrong. I tried taking off my phone case and repositioning it but it didn’t work. I don’t think this is a good app for someone who just started playing because the tutorials aren’t very in depth and you’d just be better off getting a teacher or finding a YouTube video for it.

Not enough instruction
I purchased this app for my daughter to learn during a time where going out and getting lessons wasn’t possible. It was going great until she got to the last lesson it would allow her to play, only took her two weeks to get to that point. We paid for a year subscription believing that this would provide her lessons when she was unable to actually go out and get them live.
I was told that there is a “steady flow” of lessons added weekly. That was two weeks ago and no new lessons have been added. She has only learned a handful of chords and when she looks at YouTube to continue to learn, which is ridiculous because we paid for this app to teach her, she can’t play the songs because she doesn’t know most of the basic chords that most songs require. We are not looking for advanced lessons rather the basics or “simply guitar” as the name states.

I know they have to make their money .but still
So, I’ve been playing guitar for a bit now and I kept getting ads for this , so I decided to try it . The first few lessons are free(how to read a super simple tab, how to tune ur guitar etc...), then I got to the first actual song in the app and it requires you to get a subscription. This is not how it is advertised online, I understand the creators of the app need to make money somehow, but not even providing one song to practice seems really silly to me. I wouldn’t mind paying an upfront fee for the app so I can get a few songs at least , but subscriptions add up ;and for someone who is going to this app to build off of what they already know it’s not really worth it. The advertising for this app really needs to be changed because the advertised you can learn all your favorite songs on this app and learn to play chords , but In all reality if you want to learn these skills you have to pay for them.

Too many audio pick up bugs
So much fun, great learning;
But the audio pick up for myself has been sporadic after getting into second and third levels of chord progression and lead focus.
Many times I have had to restart practices or tests solely due to the fact the audio pickup didn’t recognize a note that I was playing perfectly because of how close or how many notes I was playing in a row, and in some cases going from a low note to a high note - I’d have to play as softly as I could and mute strings early (I’m still beginning but I can tell that it’s building a bad habit and in general just sounds atrocious trying to finagle my playing to accommodate the app) or just take the L and move on to the next lesson with either 2 stars or 2 1/2 stars instead of the 3 that I practiced until I could play perfectly for.
In all, if these issues could be fixed for mobile, I would gladly pay the price to subscribe.
On to yousician I suppose.

Dreadfully easy
I have been playing guitar for like 6 months, on my own. And I previously played ukulele for like 2 years and I’m in an orchestra. I also play piano with Simplypiano, do I have lots of musical experience. When I got this app I was excited. It asked me if I was a beginner, three chord strummer, campfire guitarist, or rock star (It was something like that). I chose campfire guitarist. But when I got into the app it gave me the easiest courses in the world. I did the free trial and skipped to the last song in the library. IT LIGIT HAD FOUR OF THE EASIEST CHORDS EVER ON THE “HARDEST SONG.” And the hardest song on lead guitar is stupid easy. I was able to play the chords on SimplyGuitar that are so called hard In like a day of playing. Stupid. AND I PICKED CAMPFIRE GUITARIST! It is stupid they would even ask that IF IT DOSNT MATTER! This app is only good for people who have never picked up a guitar in their life.

Not helpful
Not helpful , at all. First of all when I selected electric guitar it taught me ( or tried to ) as if I was using an acoustic guitar , second when it gave me a song , it said I was playing wrong when in reality they gave me lessons for acoustic guitar , 3 since it was teaching me acoustic it messed up my tuning , it also said I was playing wrong when I was playing correctly because like I said it gave me the wrong lessons , oh and the ads are very obnoxious. If you are hoping to learn guitar , just buy lessons with an actual professional. I’m not saying that the teacher is bad , but the app is poorly developed , it also doesn’t really teach you songs , it just plays a song for you while you play an occasional chord. Maybe If it were developed better it wouldn’t be as bad but as a result of my experience with this app I don’t think you should use an app for any instruments. If you want to learn guitar , head to guitar center and pay for lessons .

Horrible. YouTube videos are much better and free!
DO NOT DOWNLOAD!Asked for one week free and didn’t read the fine print that I would be charged 90$ for an app that doesn’t even work. The sound wasn’t registering it was just giving me a pass on each note strummed no matter what and then it would randomly not register at all and tell me I was failing when I was doing the correct thing... horrible horrible experience with this whole app. No wonder they advertise so much so they can actually get people sucked in because no one will recommend this through word of mouth or in the music community. Maybe if they made it a little more affordable or free and had some ads in it or if they just fixed the problems in the first place I wouldn’t be so dissatisfied. Thanks for a quick lesson to stick to the old school ways of learning something. Having a real person teach you or reading a book. Screw technology it’s ruining everything. Family’s music society culture politics science everything and this app is just another example. Booo! Nope this suckedddd. Big mistake. Awful. Horrible. Total failure.

Disappointed
It’s incredible that they charge the same for this as simply piano! I looove simply piano, so I had high hopes for this app. I took the week free trial, and I was quite disappointed. First of all the chord recognition is quite poor. Sometimes it wouldn’t recognize a chord which I knew I was playing right, and other times it would recognize it when I knew I was playing the wrong chord. For some songs you were literally playing the same chord over and over and over, I would be playing it correctly, but because they were close together on the app, it didn’t recognize it so it would send me back in the song and I would have to play that chord several additional times. My poor neighbors! Also, there are not nearly as many lessons on here as simply piano, so I can’t imagine doing it for a year, which is 120$, and the 3 month is half that price! I would consider buying the 3 month if the price were more reasonable. Paying half the price for a quarter of the time. Simply put, the product is not nearly as good as simply piano, so why would you have the audacity to charge the same price?!
