Rick johnston sold me a English bulldog puppy that was SUPPOSED to be a show quality English bulldog puppy for $6,150.He gave me a story that he had a puppy that he was holding for a guy that was going to give to his son to start showing, but that when it was time to get the puppy the guy was going thru a divorce and couldn't take him. And he told me he would put me in front of his so called waiting list and sale me the puppy. He told me he was show quality and that I needed to show him so I could make him more valuable for stud service. I told rick that I was looking for a show quality bulldog to start showing and also be able to use him eventually as my stud for my breeding program. Rick guaranteed me he was all of this. When he shipped me the puppy he was almost 4 months old and weighed a mere 10.5lbs. I questioned rick about his quality and size and he assured me he was show quality and give him time he would grow. After this I was realizing rick johnston is a fraud and I started contacting breeders who show English bulldogs and I sent them pictures of him and they all stated he was far from show quality. They stated he was way too small and show standard calls for a bulldog to be at least 50 lbs. and by the size of this guy he will be lucky to reach 40lbs. full grown. Also within 1 week of getting him he developed cherry eye in one eye which rick did reimburse me for the cost of the surgery. As for showing him i have been told the cherry eye automatically disqualifies him due to the fact that the dog is not allowed any alterations and the cherry eye surgery is an alteration of the eye. Besides this he has tulip ears a small and not standard shaped head. He is clearly not show quality and to top this off when he shipped the puppy to us he told us we would have his papers in 30 days. When the 30 days were up we called him and asked him again and he stated he had not drawn them yet and it would be another 30 days. Well the 30 days is up again so i e mailed him asking him for them and he stated to me that he was moving facilities and that when he built his new facilities he would draw for them. When I questioned him on this and asked how hard is it to draw the papers and asked how much longer I had to wait he wrote me back saying he is tired of my belly aching and I would get the papers when I get them. I have every right to be questioning this fraud who ripped me off $6,000 and hasn't even gave me the papers on the puppy which is now 6 months old. So basically I paid $6,000 for a non show quality bulldog with no papers. I asked this scam artist for either a partial or full refund and he told me its not going to happen. Everyone thinking about buying a bulldog from this fraud should STAY AWAY! AND RUN FROM HIM. There's more cases even worse than mine. I have filed a formal complaint about this fraud to the Arizona attorney generals office and hopefully this scam artist will be put out of business.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer's satisfaction.
I personally know Rick, and I have to say that I would not buy a bulldog from anyone but him. My best friend has a bulldog that she paid $4000 for and he was supposed to be a "Show Quality Dog" this is the farthest from the truth. His underbite is way too rounded as well as sticking out 3 whole inches.
I have seen Ricks dogs, I have seen his facilities, and I know what to look for when it comes to quality. His dogs have it.
Do you really think that another breeder is going to reccomend him? No, they want your money!
Do you really think that someone famous is going to accept just any dog? No, they only want the best!
Ask yourself these logical questions before you pass judgement on Rick.
Also, if you look at the different complaints about him, they are exactly the same! It is kind of like posting testimonials. The same person can do it over and over again with different names.
Google these peoples names, or better yet get their phone numbers and call them. See if it is the same voice or if the number even works.
First off do your research, look up Rick's dog, Bomberland Edition Limited (Freddy), and LOOK at the pedigree. According to Rick's standard Freddy is a LINE BRED DOG! With GGG Grandparents he has the common names of "Tugga Tough Decision for Kelloe", "Merriveen Hi-Daze", "Merriveen Frozen Asset ", and "Kelloe Hello ". Then as the generations progress, there are no Duplicate names, though they still contain the Kennel names Merriveen, Lynmans, Kelloe, and Ocobo. Meaning most all of Freddys ancestry are interrelated. Freddys parents, grandparents, and great great grandparents were ALL line bred dogs. Yet Freddy is advertised as some genetic, non line bred marvel by Rick. So here are some questions for you;
If Freddy, a line bred (by Ricks definition) EB which is a product of kennels that practice selective line breeding is good enough to be Rick's top Dog, then how can you as a consumer justify spending $3, 500-$6, 000 for a dog the same quality as a run of the mill $1, 500 "Elimae and Jethro" EB? Heck, why not just purchase a dog DIRECTLY from Bomberland Kennels where Rick Purchased Freddy?
Here is the link for Bomberland Edition Limited's Pedigree,
www.bulldogs.bomberland.hu/index.php?n=1&dog=3
Check out on the Moms side you will see the name Lynmans Living Legend line go through 3 Generations, including his parents Lynmans Lamplighter, and Lynmans Madam Cyn. Which means Freddy' mom is a result of an Uncle banging his Niece. Also on the Moms side is Kelloe Alum Chine, who as you can see is the daughter of Tugga Tough Decision For Kelloe and Kelloe Hello, which happens to be the brother of Freddys GG Grandpa Eng.Ch. Kelloe Kid Glove. Who banged his half sister producing Feddys Grandpa Eng.Ch. Esclusham Golden Chimes of Wencar.
Merriveen Frozen Asset, and Merriveen Hi-Daze G Grandkids produced Freddys dad Eng.Ch. Merriveen Rough and Ready.
Take a couple minutes and see all the fun family connections you can make on Rick's "non-line bred dog" JUST with his Pedigree. Start looking up more detailed histories of some of Freddys ancestors and the picture becomes shockingly clear.
The point I am trying to make here is that when it comes to English Bulldogs you are NOT going to find a Non-Line bred dog. Chances are also high that you can end up with an EB that has some kind of health issues. But the difference between a "Good" breeder and a "Bad" breeder comes down to how much they know about the dogs they are breeding, and what kind of land mines lay hiding in the lines they have selected to breed with. As well as HOW THEY DEAL WITH GENETIC/HEALTH ISSUES WHEN THEY ARISE. If a customer who purchased a dog from your kennel comes to you with a Genetically sick dog, after going to the VET, and you say the Vet is wrong THAT is a sign of a bad breeder. Since the breeder says "no way can something be wrong with my Dogs"! They have a term for that, and it's called "Kennel Blindness".
If you are looking to purchase an EB then take the time to go to Dog shows in your area, get to know different Breeders, find one that you like and have a CLEAR UNDERSTANDING OF HOW THEY WILL WORK WITH YOU IF YOUR DOG GETS SICK!
De La Hoya's dog was named cookie and he gave it away to his cousin.
The puppies born to cookie (more than once) all died. It was very hard on the family as cookie is dearly loved. Still... All the puppies died.

Hello everyone!
I am writing this blog because I want to clarify a number of situations that may be causing discomfort in our buyers or prospective clients.
Bullcanes is a familar company. We have always loved animals, have always lived surrounded by these beautiful creatures who give their lives to us!
For eight years we are selling puppies bred by us, with all the necessary care, we have two veterinarians who are responsible for being aware of any problems they have.
Every day I work in search of improving the race, minimizing common problems in bulldog, we have specialized in this breed.
We try to make each of our customers are happy with your dog and you do not have any problem, however we are not selling a product, we are selling an animal, a living being who may have diseases, like other animals.
We give guarantees as breeding on genetic problems, these are the problems which we can take responsibility, (this warranty is expressed in writing in the contract of sale is available on our website: http://www.bullcanes.net / contract.pdf)
all living beings can become ill and this is something that should be within the consciousness of the buyer of a dog.
A dog needs a lot of care, a dog must have a suitable environment for a healthy and happy life.
We have more than 1, 000 dogs sold in the U.S., and I can assure that 95% of our customers are happy.
Bullcanes not have any relation with Bulldogs Exchange, the only relationship that has existed was twice that they sold four of our puppies.
If you want to extend this information or want to talk to some of our clients, please write me to: ceo@bullcanes.net
Thanks for your time

Rick Johnston is an absolute ###. I bought a bulldog a few months ago and considered Rick's site. I saw the video and thought he was a weird dude with an agenda to get back at the BCA for some reason so I never re-considered. I got a great bulldog from another breeder and am looking to get another. After reading these comments it is clear that this entire thread has become a battle become Rick and his cronies and the BCA. The funny part is that the BCA members (you're obvious to experienced forum readers) are continually providing factual information and asking for proof. They have legitimate sounding stories from numerous customers with very similar details. Rick and his cronies come on here and say [censored] things ;like" Rick is a great guy" and "Rick only sells great dogs".
YOU ARE AN IDIOT RICK!
i bought a beautiful all white english bulldog from rj and gayle 1 year ago. she is so gorgeous people stop me in my car to assess/pet. she is also the best looking bullie in our huge cincinnati bulldog club. i paid $6800 and will be breeding her to a handsome male from rj's ranch here in next month. we will sell the puppies back for a fair price. i must have been pretty blessed cause we havent had any problems. i even stay in contact with the kennel master (no need for nanny now) every month to keep them abreast of our bullie's status. am i alone? cyndi in cincinnati [protected])
