TaxRise failed to deliver on their promises after accepting my case in September 2020. They were retained to investigate and resolve an IRS reassessment of my [protected] taxes which came with a new bill from the IRS for about $55,000 at the time. I paid TaxRise $10,000 to investigate why the IRS went back 10 years to reassess my tax liability and how they arrived at the amount owed since the returns for those years had already been processed by the IRS previously with no indication of this additional liability.

Despite an initial estimate of 6 months for resolution, TaxRise has made no progress in 3.5 years. Their actions have been limited to basic correspondence and pursuing an Offer in Compromise (OIC), which I had originally stated I could handle myself. The core issue, the IRS reassessment, remains unexplained.

TaxRise neglected to inform me that my case did not qualify for an OIC due to home equity exceeding my tax debt. Their continued pursuit of this avenue demonstrates either incompetence or a deliberate attempt to prolong the case. Their communication has been consistently poor, with ignored messages, delayed responses, and a revolving door of uninformed case managers.

TaxRise's actions have been negligent in multiple ways:

1. Inadequate Communication: TaxRise repeatedly ignored my inquiries, delayed responses, and assigned new contacts unfamiliar with my case, demonstrating a lack of professionalism and organization.

2. Failure to Deliver Results: Despite their initial promises, TaxRise merely achieved a "non-collectable" status, a measure I could have pursued myself, while the reassessed tax liability remains unresolved.

3. Potential Misconduct: TaxRise may have knowingly accepted my case despite my ineligibility for their proposed solution (Offer in Compromise), suggesting a focus on financial gain over client interests.

It's 3 years later and I'm out $10K! The whole process was a COMPLETE waste of time and they did nothing for me I could not have done for myself, working directly with the IRS to resolve.

Claimed loss: $10,000 in cash and 200+ hours of time

Desired outcome: Refund
