The Law Offices of Alexander E. Borell sent me a personalized letter via U.S. Mail, soliciting my business in regards to a loan modification rescue scam. I called the telephone number listed on the letter and made an appointment to speak to an attorney at the above mentioned location. I arrived early for my appointment the following day, but Alexander E. Borell was not available nor did I speak to an attorney. Instead, I met with Chanel Coalla a sales person who promised and guaranteed to have my principle balance and my monthly mortgage payments reduced by up to 50% for an advanced fee retainer of 1, , 500.00 dollars in addition to a monthly payment, beginning in January 2015. Chanel Coalla said The Law Offices of Alexander E. Borell were affiliated with the federal government's Making Home Affordable Program and she guaranteed financial relief, but nothing was done to stop my forclosure or negotiate the terms of my mortgage. Chanel Coalla advised me to stop making my monthly mortgage payments and immediately cease all communications with my lender. I was pressured to sign papers I didn't have a chance to read or understand and unfortunately a written agreement and paid 750.00 dollars with a personal check and submitted my bank account information to have an additional 750.00 dollars debited from my bank account within the following two weeks. I paid a total of 1, 145.00 dollars prior to having any work done. After, making my payments, tried to get updates on the status of my case and each time I was unable to speak to an attorney nor were my phone calls returned promptly. I communicated exclusively with Chanel Coalla and Samantha a processor and both persons and at no time did I speak to an attorney. An attorney, Christina A. Fiallo, whom I've never met, eventually appeared in court on my behalf on 02/16/2015 and the terms of the loan modification were not what I expected. The terms of my loan remained the same and Christina A. Fiallo made little to no effort to obtain a principle balance reduction nor a reduction in my monthy mortgage payments. The Federal Trade Commission makes it illegal for companies to collect any fees in advance until a homeowner has received an offer of relief from his or her lender and accepted it. This law clearly states even if I agree to have an attorney represent me, I don't have to pay a single penny until the services are rendered and I'm satisfied with the end result. The Law Offices of Alexander E. Borell and their employees are deceiving consumers with false promises and collecting illegal advance fees for nothing in return. I just received something similar about a paternity petition. I’m trying to figure out if its a scam because I haven’t been served papers for this matter.
