In May of 2014 my husband was in Home Depot and was approached by Rain Soft in connection with Home Depot (we later found out it was just a scam to get a Home Depot credit card). My husband, assuming it was a product backed by Home Depot agreed to let them come out to our home for a demonstration. DO NOT BELIEVE THE MAGIC TRICKS! The gentleman came out and seemed to be very nice and knowledgeable about the Rain Soft Water Treatment System. Convinced us that the product was good for the environment, much healthier for our children due to the overload of chemicals that are now put into our county water. A cute little magic trick with yellow food dye and how it removed chlorine from both drinking and bath water and we were sold! For the products that came with the system we thought we could justify the $8000.00 system! We have had nothing but trouble and headache with this system. Most of the issues we have are the exact ones I am seeing on other complaints of the system. The day the system was installed they could not find a proper place to put it. After what they deemed the best place to put it they could not find a drain (it has to be near a drain for the system to clean itself daily). They finally ended up using our Master bathroom shower drain. When hooking up to the drain they pushed it through the bottom of the shower so that the cover is no longer flush with the shower and it you don't step just in the right spot in the shower you will get a lovely slice right across your toes. Still a year and a half later this issue is yet to be resolved. Also, due to the placement of the system, at 2:15 am every morning I am awakened to a "gurgling sound" for 3-4 minutes. My husband who is an Electrical Supervisor on an oil rig is unable to get the timing adjusted to a different time of day than what the installers programmed, even though the electrical board has already had to be replaced. We were told our power bill and water bill would both go down due to the efficiency of Rain Soft's water treatment system. Actually the water has went up and there was absolutely no change in the power bill. Nor does it take a shorter time for clothes to dry, blah, blah, blah all the stuff we were told. Not a bit of it true. Our water bill was in excess of $200.00 three months in a row. We had plumbers come out numerous times looking for leaks only to finally find out the seals had gone bad in the Rain Soft water system causing it to continuously run. Now we have to pay in excess of $100.00 every year for them to replace the seals, and yes we were told by the gentleman that came out they would have to be replaced every year because it is a cheap seal. We were also told by this same employee that the electrical board should never have been changed out because it devalued our system when the problem the whole time had been the seals. So yes we ate the $600.00 water bill because Rain Soft's other employee was new and the owners nephew and to quote the employee "didn't know squat about Rain Soft's systems, just needed a job". As for the products that come free for 5 years, good luck with that I can't even give my products away which is I guess why they "give them away" with the system because no one would buy the products. We noticed after a week of having the system that there was a very "sour" smell that would come out when we would first turn on the washer then the clothes would smell like they had been in the washer too long, we thought maybe it was the Washing liquid from Rain Soft only to find out it is the water itself because of the system and we would have to purchase another pricey part to make the smell go away! So now thanks to gain washing powder, fireflies, softener and then a Gain sheet in the dryer our clothes don't smell quite as bad. But yes I now use all four items EVERY time I wash a load of clothes. Just a quick run down...the washing detergent, if you do not dilute it very very well will spot up your clothes. The shampoo...well lets just say I don't even bathe the dogs in it. If you've ever used it you know you wont even need a blow dryer because it dries out your hair so bad. The soaps are very bad if you have a kid with eczema, even though we were told that between the soaps and the water system it would be much better:/ Electric dish detergent Will scratch up any glass! Do not use unless only plastic in the dishwasher. And lastly the system takes Fluoride out of your water also. As a dental hygienist I most definitely would liked to have know this BEFORE purchasing the system. I did not find out until about 6 months ago when we had to start placing "watches" on the kids teeth where before there were none. So if you still chose to buy this system after all of this PLEASE buy topical fluoride from your dentist. After 20 years together of my husband and I making purchases this has been the WORST! I would not recommend any product from Rain Soft to anyone. Period.
