I came in to Geek Squad, located at on (Broadway Blvd, Tucson, AZ) on January, 5th, 2023.
I requested to unplug & plug my battery back in order to recalibrate it.
The agent took my laptop inside and came out with the left-side hinge out of place.
1) He informed me that it was already broken (before coming in), which is not. 2) He also informed that it is a minor damage that won't affect anything. 3) He told me that in order to get fixed I have to send my laptop to service, which will take 3-4 weeks and will cost me money.
1) I am 100% sure it wasn't broken before because this damage effect is visible while using the laptop normally; it pops out the back as well as the top (keyboard) cover on that side. 2) It is not minor and it is just a matter of a couple usages until the covers are totally out. 3) I can't grasp the idea of coming to an electronics repair store to do a minor procedure and then my laptop is damaged (worse), I have to lose it (I am a student) and I have to pay too.
* It was very obvious how the agent deals recklessly with electronics. Infront of me: 1) he was just sliding and rotating the laptop aggressively on the regular desk, 2) I requested to just hold on the power button for 30 seconds and he was just aggressively repeatedly pressing hardly on the button for more than 20 times.
I came in on the second day asking for the manager. An agent claimed he was the supervisor and just kept saying the same thing the agent told me the day before. Then the agent, who broke it, came out telling me that I already came with it broken. Later, finally the manger showed. The manager said I can't do anything for you and that all he can do is to send to service, which will deprive me rom my laptop for 3-4 weeks.
* I have a video that shows the damage well but it is large to upload.
Desired outcome: 1) get credit or voucher to buy a similar laptop 2) fix my laptop by DELL in one day and compensate for the hassle and time
Geek Squad - don't take your mac for hardware repair
DON'T TAKE YOUR MAC FOR HARDWARE ISSUES! I was having an intermittent issue with my battery not charging on my MacBook Air.
And it died early yesterday afternoon. Went on the Geek Squad web site to schedule an appointment. I answered it is a MAC, I did have hardware problems and my battery would not charge. Could not get in until 8:00 that night.
So I went in and the tech took one of their cords, plugged it in and it did not work. So she told me that they would have to ship to KY (they do NO Mac hardware work locally - Tucson, AZ) for diagnosis. That would take a week and I could hope to get it back in 2 weeks! WHAT?
So I went to an authorized Apple service center.
Turns out there was a small spec of paint (I am an artist) stuck in the charger port. 2 minutes and $30 later my Mac is completely healed.
