On 12/03/22 I arrived at Ross Store in search for a sheet. My 87-year-old grandmother was coming home from a stay at Kaiser Permanente for over 3 weeks. I had only a few hours until she arrived home. I was searching for a sheet set and the store was limited.
The store was quite a mess there were hangers throughout the store floors and Christmas items from the top shelves were stacked on top of each other as if patrons were opening the items and just decided to carelessly put them back. I am addressing this because at one point the pole attached to the shopping cart moved one of the boxes from the shelf. The box almost fell and struck my daughter on the head. I passed it off as the store must be understaffed.
I made my way to the linen section and was able to locate a queen sheet set, however, the package was opened wrapped with a plastic wrap and dirty. It was $20.00 and the only queen 6-piece sheet set I figured I am going to ask for a discount on this item due to its condition. I made my way to the checkout and called for an employee. I politely asked what the discounted price would be in response the gal informed me that it was not possible, I pointed out that the packaging was opened, and the sheets were clearly dirty, she didn't know how to respond and said sorry "I don't know what to say" I in turn requested a manager. Store Managers are in place to oversee situations as the one I myself was involved in. The clueless store employee decided to ask another employee what she should do. I asked the clueless store employee to please take off the lock as I want to now be certain that all 6 pieces are accounted for. As I was counting, I then realized that the items had more filth inside the packaging than on the outside. I wanted to know when that manager was going to speak with me. The staff employee responded she will not be speaking with you; the items will have to be paid full price.
I informed the employee that this is not a matter of "price" this is a matter of principal and if I wanted a used dirty item, I would have looked up a GOODWILL store.
I made my way to Marshalls located at Beverly Connection. The store is safe, the people who are getting paid are valuing the position of an employee and there are no dangerous conditions!
Desired outcome: I want my $20.00 returned. I want the people who are hired to work for the store to know that as an employee they are representing the business.
Ross Dress for Less - Employee / assoc: 229520 / store # 1313
I love ross and shop at ross almost twice a week every week. I honestly go during my lunch breaks to take a break and have some me time. I purchase so much there like house things, personal items, gifts, even a lot of stuff for our church.. I have never complained or even made a complaint about this store or any store. But today was the day. I was so mad and really felt like I was doing something wrong. I had purchased some items throughout the course of the week - month and really thought I would keep the items but do to covid-19 trying on clothes are not allowed at the stores. So when I got home I "thought" everything would fit good but when I tried them on after, they did not. So I wanted to return them and not for $ but I was okay with store credit. B/c honestly it gives me an excuse to go without my husband getting mad at me for going back and spending $. So this associate began to asks me if I had a reciept and said "no" and explained that I had purchased them at others stores encluding that one too but some items did not fit and others were gifts and others did not look so good on me at home. But she made me feel like I was doing something really wrong. Honestly im so upset. Why do you guys have return policys for store credit even if you did not purchase them at the same store your returning if your employees are going to make you feel like you stealing or doing something wrong.. She kept asking me questions and I kept asking "is there something wrong" everything was new / not worn/ and had all of the tags on them. Then! She makes a little comment on the ear peices and the security guard looks at me as to say "keep and eye on her, or suspicious activity" so the manager came double checked everything and approved it. The accoc: 229520 was not polite at all, she looked like she was bothered and did not want to be there. Honestly if your going to work in register or in customer service make sure you polite or at least fake it. Worst and first horrible experience ever! I went early this morning before work and now its like that un easy feeling all b/c your associate was in a mood.

So you bought the set of sheets from Ross anyway. Otherwise there would be no $20 spent that you want refunded. Everything you said about going to Goodwill instead or going to Marshalls instead was pointless, because you had already paid full price for your sheets at Ross.
But good news! If you paid, then you’ve got a receipt, and you can return the sheets for a refund. Unless they gave you the discount you wanted, which makes the item “as is” final sale and can’t be returned.
The cashier was clearly a trainee who doesn’t know all the rules yet, and asked a more experienced coworker for help. If you don’t like the answer you got from that person, then go ahead and be mad. Otherwise, your outrage is directed at a new employee who was trying to learn the job. Your outrage is unwarranted.
