I booked to have MOHs surgery on July 30th, 2019. I am a self-pay, asked for and rec'd an estimate of $3, 853 for the procedure from Stanford.
The actual bill arrived and was $14, 414. When I spoke with billing, I was told that "all discounts" (i.e. for self-pay) had already been applied, and I could take up the matter with estimates.
No response.
I am supposed to have another similar surgery on Sept 16th, and was warned that the estimate may also have no bearing to the eventual billing amount, and that I would be held liable for the full amount of the actual bill, regardless of the accuracy of the Sept 16th estimate (requested, but not rec'd).
In layman's terms, this would be call blatant fraud or 'bait and switch'. I could have booked the surgery elsewhere, and booked at Stanford after receiving an estimate. I was clear that there could be some variance between the estimate and the final bill, but not an underestimated amount of $8, 561 on and initial estimate of $3, 853.
For their part, the estimates and financial (billing and collections) departments do not coordinate at all, so a horrifically concocted estimate may create a disgruntled patient (once the much higher bill arrives) but billing collects or sends you to collection if you do not pay what is billed...even if you were grossly misled.

Stanford Health Care - Sleep tech
So I was being over seen by a sleep tech named jenna victory. I noticed she was having a hard time treating me as the night processed I saw her take a pill I asked what it was she said a xanax for her nerves. Which ended up making me nervous then as she leaned over I saw scarring from self inflicted wounds then as the night progressed she told me she had became outside friends with patients. Which also made me uncomfortable then told me she is under review of the medical board for a dui... I don't think that's the type of person who should be working. I don't mind people with mental illness working but this one needs to get help
