We needed an electrical outlet fixed as it had completely busted while we were camping and have them look at the battery since it didn't seem to hold a charge while camping most recently. I also decided to have them replace some molding, which I could visually see was bad, and asked to clean the stove/oven flue system. Since our dealer is a ways from our house and they were in the process of moving even further away and this was such a seeming small fix, we chose to go over to Camping World, which is only a few miles from our house. BIG MISTAKE.
It ended up at their service center in Golden. We get a call and all of the sudden what was just supposed to be a small item became all these other things. Mainly, they had climbed up on the roof (which is not where the electrical outlet was) and determined that we had scratches on our roofing material (probably from trees that scrape it when either parking it in the forest or some such thing). They then told us it would be something like $14,000 - they planned to fix the roof and replace all the pieces on top, none of which were torn. In fact, the "tears" were really hard for us to see. They were more like pin holes on the rubberized material, which, yes, could lead to moisture getting in where it shouldn't be but nothing that would warrant replacing the whole roof and all the pieces on top. The trailer itself when we bought it new around 2017 was around $17,000.
Our insurance company said what they were asking to repair was in the range of $5,000 and not what they were claiming. Needless to say, we were not going to repair a roof with them.
They eventually sent emails saying we hadn't paid them and if they didn't hear from us soon they would send us to collections. Turns out they wanted about $1200 for the molding, stove/oven check, and the battery issue. They claimed the battery was hooked up backwards (if it had been, we wouldn't have even gotten power, plus, my husband has wired this battery and many on cars through the years - he knows how to do it correctly). We ended up paying them for what they did even though I totally disagreed with the battery thing (which was the most expensive part). We didn't even want to try and fight it since they seemed to be willing to engage in some not-so-above-board practices. They didn't even fix the outlet for us.
We finally went to our dealer, who fixed the outlet for much, patched the few smaller holes in the rubberized roofing material, and upgraded us to a lithium battery for less than what we even paid them for the minimal work they actually claimed to have done (I could visually see the work they did on the molding only). Our dealer had heard that several people had had similar experiences recently about roofs with Camping World, in particular, taking it in for one thing and them deciding it needed all these other things done.
Avoid this place like the plague. Their service department is a scam.
Desired outcome: I would like a refund on the wiring part as we know that it wasn't hooked up wrong, which is what they claimed and that is why they supposedly had to rewire it.
Camping World - detail fee
On Oct 13 2011 I bought a 2004 Monaco Monarch and the salesman told me that Rv is going to be detailed completly. I told him you got three days before I be back to pick it up. I went after three days and the vehicle was nasty and dirty with a sticky floor. After all they charge me without let me know $300.00 on the sales contract. Also I live in Texas and I have to call so they can send the paper to Texas and they couldnt find them. Finally they send me all the paper so I can take them to the Tax office.
