The first time my wife and I had the prime rib dinner at Texas Roadhouse was perfect. The meat was cooked rare all the way through.
Tonight we were looking forward to the same experience like we had the first time we ate it there. The place was full as usual for a Saturday night.
The staff were friendly and the order took a little longer than normal because the place was packed. The server who brought our food to the table was not the server who took our order.
We do not know if this new server knew that our prime rib was supposed to be rare or not. What she brought to the table was nothing like what we had the first time we had there. A little rare in the center and the rest was well done. The broccoli was over cooked and carrots el dente.
We could not believe the kitchen staff, the carver or chef, approved those two prime rib dinners to leave the kitchen as rare.
The server who brought the dinners to the table stood there like a dee staring in the head lights of a car as I asked "Was that as rare as they had"? "I'll get the manager" she says. Not wanting to wait any longer and being already disappointed, we started eating.
The manager came over and asked some thing like "Is everything ok"? I told her" We ordered rare and this is what the server brought out". She agreed that it was not rare and went to the kitchen to see what was going on. She returned to the table with exactly what we had the first time we ate prime rib there. I said "Ahhhh that's what we ordered". She apologized and said "This one is yours to eat or take home which ever you like"
My point in all this is: A big "WHY". Why did the kitchen staff send out something that they knew was not right? They were completely willing to send out something from the kitchen that they themselves would not want if they were doing the ordering. It took the manager to go to the kitchen to get it right. They had it there the whole time. Why not do it right the first time? She brought out one piece of new rare prime rib. There were two of us. My wife was quiet and just wanted to eat dinner and get going.
We did not go there to have a bad experience and take the meal we wanted "To go". If they keep this up they won't have to worry about people lining up to patronize their restaurant.
The good news is that Salt Grass from Texas is opening soon in Pensacola and that is where we will be ordering our prime rib dinners from in the future. I have several years of experience cooking in restaurant kitchens. We were really disappointed in Texas Roadhouse, Pensacola Fla.
