Dear Guest Relations;
This afternoon I was asked to make a reservation for a colleague for the Red Roof Inn in Saugus Ma. I went to the hotel site to make a reservation at 1:22 pm I was on the site booking the room for $198/night for 3 nights. The system would not recognize our zip code, not sure if it was actual system error or by design. I am thinking the latter.
At 1:25pm I spoke with David in reservations and he confirmed the reservation and put me on hold while getting the confirmation number. Then surprise, surprise he came back on the line and instead of the $198++ per night I saw at 1:22pm, now after the time making the reservation with him, being put on hold, he comes back to me at approximately 1:30pm the price for the room is not $198++ but $242.24++ per night. Had I not been under a tight time constraint I would have declined, since that was not the case, we were forced to accept the increase in rate.
As a past employee of several well-known luxury hotels, I know that when a reservation is being made you do not "bait and switch" the room rate of your potential guests. I also know that there are third parties that handle many of the reservations as it is difficult managing the volume. However, they are a direct reflection of YOUR BUSINESS when they answer the phones and assist in the reservations process.
Due to the fact that the reservation system wouldn't accept a valid zip, the reservation agent had to put me on hold (I'm guessing to assist another potential guest or buy time) to get a reservation number that generally populates for them immediately and then low and behold the rate being offered was more than what was originally offered, I can only conjecture that YOUR third party partner is padding the coffers.
On a personal level I am very disappointed as my husband and I have used Red Roof Inns for the last several years as we travelled with our aging dog and have generally been pleased using them. Not only will I not personally use Red Roof Inn again, our company will not use them again, and everyone I know that stays there, will be informed to exercise extreme caution when deciding what hotel, motel or Inn to book.

I'm also sending this via snail mail with the 3 rates received between 1:22, 1:25 and 2:00pm. The 2:00pm was less than the 1:25pm
