I stopped at Kroger on my way home from work tonight. This Kroger that I'm referring to is located at 7427 Goodman Rd., Olive Branch, MS, 38654. The store was pretty crowded because we are anticipating bad weather in this area. I went through self-checkout. According to my receipt, I checked out at 6:16 p.m. on 1/30/2023 (I have the Entry ID number if needed). Upon exiting the store, the shopping cart's wheels locked. I assessed the wheels to check to see if I ran over something. Moments later, a Kroger associate approached me and asked if she could see my receipt. I complied and gave her the receipt. Then she asked me if I had any meats or baby formula in my cart. I replied and told her that I did not have any baby formula, but I purchased some Angus beef patties. She looked through my bags and looked back at the receipt. During this process, other customers were staring at me. I was so humiliated. Although, I didn't do anything wrong, I felt awkward. The Kroger associate (I did not get her name) told me that I was probably walking too fast and that's why the alarm was triggered, and the shopping cart locked. I live approximately 3 miles from the store. I shop there all the time and I've never experienced anything like this before. I could be wrong, but I feel like this was discrimination.
