My Dog Bellah had surgery on 5/25/20. Surgery went well according to vet and my dog was sent home later that day. During the 4 days after surgery, I called and raised concerns of her not eating or drinking water. All I kept being told is to keep her hydrated and try to make sure she eats. Banfield's response those 4 days was to assure me that due to her age and being a 10 year old dog with this type of surgery can be traumatic and will take time for her to adjust and also anesthesia can prevent a dog from eating the first day or so. I called Again on Friday (4th day post op) to inform them there is something wrong with Bellah to be told they're not able to see her because they had one surgeon and had 2 emergency cases was absolutely ridiculous and all they were worried about was payment with my care one credit. I called Blue Pearl Vet hospital who Banfield told me to call and was told there was a 4-5 hour wait. I took her to VEG Animal Hospital in Clifton, to be told after her work up, she was in possible renal failure, had fluid built up in her abdomen, couldn't see her bladder during an Ultra Sound, and needed to be transferred to Red bank Veterinary hospital in Tinton falls, for specialized care due to possible renal failure and possible diseased bladder. Red bank performed emergency surgery as it was warranted due to her condition. Surgeon found a leak and was repaired, abdomen was cleaned, stones were found. Surgery went well however, her renal count remain high. Unfortunately even with IV fluid therapy to try to get the kidneys back on track was unsuccessful, blood pressure increased and heart rate dropped. Sunday evening, surgeon gave us the heart breaking news of her condition and an that a possible option for her was to be transferred to a Philadelphia for Dialysis care; However, there was a 50/50 chance of not making it through. For us to subject Bellah to Dialysis for further care and more suffering was too much for a dog who already had 2 surgeries within days. At 10:30pm we had to euthanize Bellah. Banfield's concern was to call me and worry about their payment and not releasing medical records for me to take to the emergency hospitals. I want an investigation as to why her renal count was high when blood work was taken on 05/25 and no one said anything.
Banfield's disregard of not having Bellah come in to be checked days prior, refusing to see her Friday, due to having one surgeon and two emergency cases, worried about payment, no other Banfield was able to see her, her renal count high prior to surgery and not informing me, its not only neglectful but careless and unacceptable. Bellah clearly had been in distress by her symptoms and as a surgeon should of known better. By my numerous calls during the four days post care and one of the staff seemingly aggravated by my concerns is distasteful and unprofessional. Not once I was told to bring her in to be checked. Their neglect is the most horrible thing a person can experience. One more thing, Monday I get a call from one of their staff speaking about payment when I told them of what happened. I ask for a full investigation as this should have not happen. $ 8, 000 and my Bellah couldn't be saved. I should not be responsible for Banfield's neglect.
