I scheduled a reservation for a truck at a location I have been going to for over 10 years. I have noticed a bunch of new employees that Io am not familiar with. I have rented a few times in the past with them giving me no issues. This past week when I went in to pickup my reservation I had the employee request extra ID. I had This reservation was for 9/27/2023. Location1748 Main St, Buffalo NY. He told me my reservation was for Friday which it was not. I showed him the reservation and the date and he was still contesting was was wrong which I was not UI still have the email. I had already provided my driver license and a contact for emergency. He requested my Passport. My passport is not a common United States Passport. I have a Governmental Passport and it is not to be out of my possession. He took a picture of my ID with a phone. After finishing the paperwork and submitting my credit card for the hold he demanded that I leave my Passport with him for the duration of the rental. I refused immediately because the stipulations I have to follow with this passport. The manager has no authority to hold anyone's ID let alone a government officials passport. A small argument insured because he would not let me take the truck at that point. I returned home and contacted customer service. I also made new reservations at a different location for the following day since my day had been wasted and I had other obligations to fulfill later and would not have enough time. After making a reservation I had received a email for the reservation and then a short time later another email for a cancelation which I did not request or do. I had made a reservation at the main st location on accident but then cancelled that and also left my reason for the cancelation. Since I received a cancelation for the reservation I wanted I made a new reservation. The following morning at 6:30 am I had received a email for my reservation which was cancelled again. I did not request this cancellation. I called up the new location at 589 Tonawanda st. Buffalo NY. The lady who I contacted was very rude. I asked her if she had the truck available and she said yes. I had told her I would still like to rent it. she said that it was getting rented out soon. I informed her that it was my reservation and I needed it for the day. she hung up on me. I contacted customer serve who told me to go to the main st. location to get a truck or another location which was a far distance from where I was going and would rack up a lot of extra miles for no reason. I informed customer service about the situation with my passport and was informed it should not be an issue. No where in U-Haul's policy does it require anyone to leave ID at the coulter. I went back to the main st. location and now they refuse to rent to me because the manager does not like me which is now discrimination. he don't have to like me I have been a customer there for over 10 years. I have never had any issues up until now. The manager took a picture of my passport there is absolutely no reason for him to hold it until I return the rental I may need it to identify myself during that time and I would need to contact the department of defense informing them it is not in my possession. I also had a few conversations with customer service who feels they can also violate the laws and not fully disclose their policy other then the one given at the time of rental they feel they can just change the rule when they want and not abide by the law.
Desired outcome: $2500 for damages of wasting my time and rescheduling while I still need a rental.
