I just walked out of this store feeling completely ignored. I walked many times near the sewing machines and a group of six woman were sitting around talking. Not one of them asked me if I needed assistance. They were all laughing and telling personal stories so I know it was not a work meeting. I wanted to purchase a sewing machine. I felt intimidated interrupting their group for help.
I felt like I was back in junior high. So very unprofessional of them. Just feel awful.

Ok, there's a lot to bring up here, but first of all are you sure the women were employees of Joann's? The store always severely understaffs the store, to the point where it's common for there to only be three staff working at a time, one of which is always tied up by the registers.
Secondly, if there was a sewing machine department the Viking sewing galleries aren't actually with JoAnn. They're a store within a store and run with their own system/workers. My suspicion is that you saw a group of customers talking, or perhaps a class which sometimes the Viking gallery holds to orient customers to new machines.
