My name is Kathy Eckert.. I had worked for Sally's about 5-6 years ago, then went back to doing hair full time, then when the pandemic started I went back last August, for some extra money. The first week I worked there the manager and 3 employees quit because they felt the way they were treated by management was terrible. I stayed. Of course they had girls coming to help from other stores and a manager (Jackie) to fill in until a manager was hired. I knew my job, I was a top seller there. Then, a few new girls were hired, they were best friends. The one girl seemed nice, the other was so disrespectful. We had got a shipment in and it was broken. I was told that day between me and the other 2 girls we were to clean the bottles in the shipment. We first started cleaning things on the floor, and I had been going back and forth between register and cleaning. (This was my 2nd job for the day). Meanwhile the 2 girls took the shipment in the back and sat on the chairs cleaning bottles and carrying on (like 2 19 year olds do). I had asked them several times to bring out developers and help to front face and they did nothing. I finally went back and sid I needed a break since they had social hour in the back. They laughed at me and rolled their eyes. Everytime I would go in the back the talking stopped, I walk out the laughing started. I asked what seemed to be the people, "oh nothing, why? do you think we are talking about you?" I said well, it doesn't matter if you are but other things also needed done and I needed to sit down for 10 minutes. The disrespectful girl says, well we aren't old like you, and we don't need 2 jobs to live, so who cares if your feet hurt. I dealt with it, and then an hour before closing I had asked them to please get the broom to sweep the carpet in front of the door, nothing was done. Asked them to get the garbage from the front, Nothing was done. Finally I asked again what the problem ws, and I was told that Jackie had not told them they had to do any of the closing chores I was telling them about and they weren't doing it. I was mad, yes, I went out and called Jackie, she says, well You were trained differently, I told them to clean bottles and that's what matters. She says, is it worth $10 an hour to get upset? I was shocked. As long as I ever knew, the store was to be cleaned at night, so the next morning it was fresh and ready to open. She says, it did not matter that much! And, I was wrong! I shouldn't have been telling the girls how to do anything, she said. I was called an Old Fing Bit* by the disrespectful girl, laughed at etc. I went home shaking, and so upset. The next morning I told Jackie I quit, and apparently nobody cared either. I LOVED my job, loved my discount to help with my supplies but I refused to work with 2 girls that did not consider all of us a team. None of this was fair. Also, I had a cheap cell phone and it would absolutely not download the app for the schedule, and I was told by Patty that if I thought she was going to text me my schedule every week I was crazy. No schedule in the back either. After a few weeks I had been talking to a employee from another store, and she said how bad they needed more employees and if I wanted to that they could probably get me in there, and I was all for it! They were told by Patty, absolutely NOT! she had not liked me and did not even know me, just going by what Jackie had said. I know for a fact I was well liked by customers there, and asked for by them because of my knowledge, it is really sad how Sally treats employees, NOT cared about at all. I couldn't have even called anyone higher up because pattys word is LAW. Another thing, the disrespectful employee was caught by another worker there smoking weed from a vape pen in the back room! She had told Patty about it and got yelled at by Jackie by her saying "why did you tell patty? I could lose my job!" So, when problems occur like this, who are upset employees supposed to call? And, does it matter? My opinion is NO, people working there are only cared about by what they sell, nothing else, and it is too bad that is the truth. This had happened in October 2020 at the West York Sally Beauty in PA. I would love to be able to work at Sally's in East York if ever possible again, but as a team. And, also, would have loved to be cared about as an employee not a piece of dirt because that's the way both patty and jackie made me feel. Please, care about employees, cae about why they quit or have a complaint, it makes the whole job environment a better place. Hopefully new hires are not hired just because of desperation for new employees that know nothing about hair, care about the ones you already have.
Desired outcome: To let someone know how I was treated as an employee of Sally Beaut Supply.
