A several months ago I purchased a box of cereal (Post honey Oh's) at The Family Dollar store located at 517 Jefferson Davis highway in Fredericksburg, Va. Upon opening the box I noticed an odd, strong almost perfume like smell. To me, it smelled a bit like fabric softener or maybe an air freshener. Not something that should be in cereal. At least a week had elapsed since passed from the time I bought it from when I opened it so I didn't have the receipt anymore. I decided to throw it out and left it at that. an isolated incident of bad luck I thought. Well, I was in the same store yesterday and purchased another box of cereal. This time Quaker Cinnamon Life. This time I opened the box today and while the smell was nowhere near as strong, I was again greeted by the same perfume like smell! This time I am not just going to throw it out and not say anything to Family Dollar about it. But I will be honest and say I do not feel very comfortable about going into the store in person and basically accusing them of the cereal being somehow exposed to or contaminated by this non food perfume/fabric softener/industrial air freshener smell. But something is going on. I suspect that maybe in a storage room somewhere either in that store or somewhere in a Family Dollar warehouse this smell is being absorbed by the cardboard boxes sitting to close to something with this very strong fragrance maybe? Regardless of the reason why though, I have now had this happen to two different brands of cereal purchased on two different occasions. The only thing in common is the fact that it is the same Family Dollar (and the exact same non food smell). I do know that this location recently went through a renovation of sorts. I do not know if that has anything to do with this or not, but it cannot be good for this to be happening and thought someone higher up should know about it. I would also like to (if possible) be compensated for the price of the two boxes of cereal I had to throw out. I do have the receipt only for the one I purchased yesterday.
Claimed loss: Approximately $9-$10 The Life was $3.90 but I cannot remember how much the Honey Oh's were, but cereal is usually about 4-6 dollars.
Desired outcome: I would like either a refund or a coupon or gift card to cover the cost of the cereal I had to throw out. I would also love to know what happened to cause the cereal boxes and cereal to smell like this.

Family Dollar - accused of shoplifting (black)
My sister and I were charged with stealing because the manager jennifer vargas said we went down the wrong way in the store. She lied under oath in court. She only profiled us because we're black, its sad that you have to follow a store lay out in order to be an innocent shopper. Do not shop here they do not respect black shoppers or black employees~
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I am not following your rebuttal. The police do not charge people with shoplifting/theft for walking against the flow of an aisle. Police don't charge someone with theft without physical proof. You were more than likely caught on the CCTV or iVerify system.
