My name is Marcia Daniels, and I would like to file a complaint against a fraudulent company and your customer service representative. On August 30, 2023, I received an email about a marketing survey for T-mobile. I participated in the survey and at the end, it offered a list of prizes to choose from where you just had to pay for shipping and handling for the selected prize. I used my debit card to pay for shipping, which was $5.99, and I was sent a confirmation email showing that the $5.99 was charged to my card.
After I did not see a delivery of the prize selected, I became suspicious and called T-mobile on September 11, 2023. The representative from T-mobile explained to me that their surveys are done by phone and not e-mail. At that point, I called my bank (Webster Bank), at 7:28 p.m. on the same day, to cancel my debit card. The bank told me that the card was cancelled and that I would be sent another card in 7 – 10 business days.
On Monday, September 18, 2023, at 11:59 p.m., I called Webster Bank’s automated system to check the balance on my account. I noticed a charge for $49.99 that I did not authorize. The next day, I called the bank to ask them about the charge and what company charged my account. They told me that the Department of Health charged my card. The representative from the bank gave me the phone number and told me to ask the Department of Health why they charged my account. When I called the telephone number, I was put on hold by the automated system. Then a man answered the phone. I asked him why my card was charged $49.99 when I did not request a service from the organization. He asked for my name and the amount that was charged to my card. When I told him the information that he requested, he told me that after my card was charged $5.99, I had the option to cancel the service or get a gift card for $125 to get anything that I wanted from the company’s shop. I told him to cancel the charge and he gave me a cancellation code.
If the representative from the bank had cancelled my card, the charges to my account would not have been made. Please refund my card $49.99.
Desired outcome: I would like my money refunded and better service.
