Some of the pavers in my interlock landing needed to be raised. I hired SEAN WILLIS of WILLIS LANDSCAPING to do the work. He had scheduled the work for the end of August but never came or called to say why he wasn't coming. That should have been a warning, but I trusted him. He's been advertising in the Kanata Courier Standard newspaper for years, and his company has supposedly been around for 25 years. I checked the BBB. There were no complaints about the company, so I thought I'd be safe. Besides, I thought I'd help a small local company.
I called him in September, and he finally came, September 13, saying he had been "busy".
He started the job by removing the paving stones and lining them up side by side, so he could add gravel to raise the base. That was Thursday, September 13. He was going to have the job finished by Saturday, Sept. 15. He did not show up Friday, or Saturday! He did not even call to say why he wasn't coming.
In the meantime we had to walk around and step over gravel and upturned stones to reach our front door. This posed a hazard for anyone coming to our door.
Sean finally came back the week after to finish the job. As he was sweeping sand over the stone landing, I did not see that he had taken about 25 of my perfectly good pavers and replaced them with mismatched pavers he had brought (see pictures). There was nothing wrong with my pavers and I don't know why he took them away instead of putting them back into place.
The mismatched pavers are a terrible eyesore, and the edges are crooked and misaligned (see picture).
I sent him an email, September 28. His wife Angie wrote back to say they "uphold high customer service" and assured me it would be "resolved" after he came back - which would have been after Thanksgiving.
I called October 30 to ask when Sean was coming. Angie promised he would be here "before the end of the week". The end of the week came and went, and no sign of Sean. I sent them another email saying that if I did not hear from them by 6 p.m., Monday, November 5, I will have to submit a complaint. It is not something I like to do, but I never heard back from them.
I thought I'd give them one final chance to redeem themselves and called this morning, November 6, but nobody picked up the phone.
My landing looks worse than ever before, and the resolution that was promised never happened. I don't know if it ever will?
