Medical assistant associates degree program
Hello Everyone,
I am a 2012 Medical Assistant Associates Degree Graduate. I was very fortunate to have been hired two months into my externship at a doctors office. However it is very unfortunate how expensive it is to get an education at YTI and if you would like to continue your education elsewhere the credits are nontransferable. Complete waste of time. I literally started off at the doctors office making 10.50/HR. for an associates degree. I wish someone would have warned me (guided me) into the LPN program instead elsewhere. I refused to remain feeling stuck for a living. I am very fortunate to have gotten into the dialysis field now for the past almost 10 years. I am now making close to 30/HR. Motivation and hard work does pay off but you have to want it. Do not feel discouraged. keep looking for better options. I am now starting school after so long. No credits sadly. starting all general credits from scratch again. If your young and straight out of high school and would like to further your education after YTI this is NOT the place to go and waste your money! Hope this helps.
Respiratory Therapy
I have been enrolled in the respiratory program since 10/2021 however classes were first canceled due to hem not being able to secure clinicals. When I finally started in January of this year I ended up getting really sick with Sepsis and even with excuses I had to continue on with the classes and failed two of them. My second attempt at one of the classed ended in failure again, so I took the class a third time and finally had a passing grade and just had a final to take to continue to move on. I misunderstood the timing of the final and begged the teacher to let me take it as I was only a couple hours passed due. The instructor didn't budge so I went to the program director and explained what happen which she then asked if I could have it done by a certain time and I said yes. A few minutes later she changed her mind on allowing me to take the final based on whatever conversation she had with the teacher. I accept my mistake for misreading the announcement on what time the final was due, however, to be told I can go ahead and take the final then have it switched in the matter of minutes is what sucks. It was a true honest mistake. I felt like the teacher had something personal against me and told the program director I wanted to file a complaint on the school and she just brushed me off which is against their policy as they threw in my face multiple times. I also wanted to file an appeal which was also brushed off.
Business Program is a rip off
If you're considering going to YTI Altoona for Business, DON'T! Go to South Hills or Penn Tech instead. Biggest waste of 2 years of my life. Went through 13 instructors because they kept leaving because the director was a joke. The business students are the lowest of the low. Always the first to get yelled at, and the last to be appreciated. Not to mention that once an employer sees that you got your business degree from there, you won't be hired. Also, once you graduate, career services will ditch you. They're supposed to help you find employment, but they will either ignore you, or tell you there isn't anything out there. Think twice before considering this place.

Worthless School / Degree
I graduated from YTI career institute 1 year ago the school's idea of job placement is to spam job leads to temp jobs at slightly above minimum wage. Unfortunately if you go try to find a job yourself, any reasonable job that looks at the Degree, Associates in specialized business, dismisses your application due to this schools reputation for being the worthless waste of time that it is. I am currently working outside my field and making nearly twice the amount that my classmates are making. That is assuming they actually found a job.
While attending YTI, 2 instructors were fired/asked to quit, 1 quit, and another was asked to leave after a sexual abuse complaint shortly after graduation. YOUR CREDITS WILL NOT TRANSFER no mater what they tell you. Everything taught in YTI was basic knowledge that you can learn on your own by simply using a computer, besides Cisco routing.
Finally to top everything off, career services will "check in" with you every 2 or 3 months to ask if you have been hired into a job in the field and if you say no they will begin to spam you with useless job offers, almost all of them you do not even meet minimum requirements to apply. If you finally say yes, they will check you down as a successful job placement, helping their numbers, and helping them convince new naive perspective students to fork over their money and follow in your footsteps.
Your success means nothing to this school, your just a source of income.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
This is so true, i graduated from yti 5 years ago and still cant get a job in my field, totally sucks and feel like i wasted 2 years of my time and money.
Lied about credits tranfering
This school is a joke. I was lied to by the admissions office saying that all my credits would transfer to ANY school I choose to. So I took the plunge and was completly disgusted. There were a couple of teachers that taught well and I learned a lot from them, however most either could not teach or just didn't care.
The staff (exculding teachers) treated me very rudely, since they got their money, I guess they don't care. Your last "term" you have to complete an internship, most of which were not paying. They charged me $5000 for that term and I only stepped foot in the school one time during that term.
So I graduated, relocated to another state and decieded to go for my bachelor's. Guess what? None of my credits transfer to any college. I called YTI and asked them about my credits and was told "Oh, you know most schools don't accept our credits." The only thing I could do was laugh, I was never screwed over so bad by any company in my life. Now I started over again and have to go for another four years to get a degree from a real college. Don't go to this school, they will lie about anything to get you in the door, and you'll regret every minute of it.
I wish my daughter had previously read your comments about this school. She attended YTI Altoona for a year and felt the school was so disorganized and the communication was awful. She decided to withdraw and attend a real college, she was so disappointed to find out that ALL 48 credits did not transfer. She was told that "some" of her credits "may" not transfer to a higher institution. She now is 17K in debt with nothing to show for it. It truly should have a BEWARE sign with a full disclosure of the fine print. If you only want to make a minimum wage, you do not need to go to this school.
I went to YTI, got a 3.92 with many student of the term awards. I graduated and got a job in the field. With that said I agree with every word said on this complaint. Keep in mind your job options if you find any local will start you out at $10_$15 an hour and you must start paying that $35k you borrowed immediately. Further more if you would like to advance ( get a raise raise to account for the $35K) Many require specialized training/experience you wont get from YTI, or a Bachelors degree. I'm not saying you cant go here and get promoted or land a good job, but its an uphill battle you will have to do with no additional schooling as an option. worth 35K?
Rip off school/waste of money
I have attended this school for two semesters. I was sucked with a weak sales pitch from an admissions officer. She was very pushy and convinced me I needed to start NOW. I did start their Medical Assistant program and I am so unhappy with it. The education is so terrible, I was challenged more in 8th grade biology class. Terrible. Then they have the nerve...
