Abacus Data Systems Inc is a company that Canadians should be cautious about
Abacus Data Systems Inc is a company that Canadians should be cautious about. They do not provide support for Canadian versions of Quickbooks, and they refuse to give refunds.
This company is the worst I've ever dealt with
This company is the worst I've ever dealt with. They're so unhelpful, it's unbelievable.
Abacus lost all my historical data when they processed a changeover to a new platform
Abacus lost all my historical data when they processed a changeover to a new platform. They didn't give much notice and didn't keep any backups or offer a download of my company files before deleting everything. I lost all my Quickbooks data for a 6-month period for a software application I paid for but asked them to host. I have no idea how this will affect my small business financially. DON'T USE THIS COMPANY.
AbacusNext / Amicus Lawyer ain't that useful, ya know?
AbacusNext / Amicus Lawyer ain't that useful, ya know? It's always crashing and having downtime. It took me a whopping 3 days just to get in touch with someone to talk about canceling our service. And when I finally did, they kept me on hold for what felt like forever, only to tell me to leave a message for a call back. Can you believe it? And now they're saying our contract auto-renewed, and we can't cancel without paying for the whole 8 months left. Just like many others have said, this company doesn't give a hoot about their customers. We've been dealing with nothing but problems for the past couple of years. I wouldn't recommend their software to anyone, no way.
Deceptive sales practices
Deceptive sales practices. I didn't know I couldn't decrease the number of users. An employee left because of the pandemic and Office Tools wouldn't negotiate the contract. So instead of keeping the remaining users in our office for the long term, they'll lose all users when my contract finally ends. The company doesn't offer any flexibility and communication is inconsistent. The software has problems with features that are supposed to function, like Outlook integration, Quickbooks integration, and the Office Tools App. I have to 'restart' services on the server almost every day. Now I understand why they insist on such a lengthy contract, otherwise, they wouldn't have any users. I definitely don't recommend them at all.
I would strongly advise against doing business with Abacus Data Systems Inc
I would strongly advise against doing business with Abacus Data Systems Inc. These guys are a real headache. AbacusNext made the decision to stop supporting Hotdocs for Wealthcounsel, leaving me and many other attorneys in a bind. They still expected us to pay for their software, even though it had become completely useless. It wasn't until AbacusNext and Wealthcounsel finally agreed to let Hotdocs users out of their license agreements that they bothered to take any action. But even then, they dragged their feet and continued to charge me fees until my term expired just this month. Now, they're scrambling to cancel my agreement and apologize (while conveniently blaming Wealthcounsel), but it's really too little, too late. Frankly, I highly doubt I'll ever see any of my money back from AbacusNext. This whole experience has been a painful lesson, and I now know better than to ever do business with them again.
Abacus took a great program (OfficeTools) and completely messed it up
Abacus took a great program (OfficeTools) and completely messed it up. After they bought it, they jacked up the price by four times and the support went down the drain. After a couple of years, they made us sign a new agreement that has some tiny words saying you gotta tell them 60 days before your renewal date if you wanna cancel or remove licenses. And if you wanna cancel, you gotta send them the signed form 30 days before renewal date. But if you didn't tell them 60 days ahead, you're stuck with auto-renewal. The annoying thing is that they auto-renew you 60 days before your renewal date, way before they even set the new prices for the year. So if you don't like the new prices, tough luck, you're already stuck and can't do anything about it. Awful company with awful terms of service that are meant to trap you into a longer commitment than you want. These tactics are what lousy software companies do to squeeze every penny out of their customers before they move on.
I tried to cancel services with this company many times
I tried to cancel services with this company many times. I learned that their help in understanding how to make templates was not what I expected. They kept sending me a bunch of links, expecting me to read and figure out how to make templates on my own. I asked for one-on-one training, but the training times available are in the early morning, which doesn't work for me. I'm not good with technology at all, and I was hoping for someone to guide me through the process, maybe by accessing my computer remotely. But that's not possible because I use *** and their software isn't *** compatible. I've been using an older version of *** and a similar system like *** to use ***. Disclaimer: I am *** and they don't understand that English isn't my first language, so it's hard for me to understand English concepts, especially tech-related stuff. They keep charging me monthly for software services that I don't even use. The company told me that it doesn't matter if I use their services or not, I'm still obligated to pay for 36 months due to a binding contract. This isn't fair. I already paid a one-time fee of $450. They also mistakenly billed me twice for the one-time fee and refunded me, but they refuse to cancel the monthly service. I've been trying to resolve this for months now.
BEWARE OF ABACUSNEXT!
BEWARE OF ABACUSNEXT! Abacus is the kiss of death. I signed up on 8/31 . . . and I am still dealing with them. It looks like I'll have to file a suit to get Abacus to stop billing me for a product I cannot use and have never used. Frankly, a class action lawsuit is probably the only thing that will stop Abacus from refusing to allow customers to cancel their contracts without a penalty. As soon as I signed the contract, Abacus dumped the whole responsibility for migrating my existing data to Abacus' platform onto me. ABSOLUTELY ZERO CUSTOMER SUPPORT OR TECHNICAL SUPPORT. You cannot reach Customer support or IT support--ever! If you enjoy listening to elevator music gone bad while on hold, just dial any of the phone numbers you can find for Abacus. Average hold time: 11 minutes . . . then you get dumped into a voice messaging system. The only way to get through to a human is to call Sales and then ask to be transferred . . . to 11 minutes of waiting and then a voice message system. Fun! Given what I know about Abacus now, I am greatly relieved I did not manage to figure out how to migrate my data to AbacusNext. I sincerely believe I would no longer be in business if I had. I have tried to cancel my contract several times, but no one with the ultimate power and authority of refund monies has ever returned my phone calls. Now it's 3/12, Abacus is still billing me and intends to continue billing me until 8/31! For N-O-T-H-I-N-G. ATTORNEYS BEWARE. In my eyes, Abacus has earned a NEGATIVE FIVE STAR rating. Clarke Y.
lletion notice before the contract expired
lletion notice before the contract expired. I explained that I was not aware of the need for a written cancellation notice as it was not clearly stated in the contract. *** then informed me that it was my responsibility to read and understand the terms of the contract. I felt frustrated and deceived by the lack of communication and transparency from Abacus Data Systems Inc.
In terms of the software itself, I found it to be quite user-friendly and efficient when it was actually working. However, there were several instances where the software would crash or freeze, causing delays and frustration in my work. The customer support was not always helpful in resolving these issues promptly, and I often had to wait for extended periods of time before receiving any assistance.
Furthermore, the billing process was also a source of frustration for me. There were times when I was charged for services that I did not use or request, and it took multiple phone calls and emails to rectify these billing errors. It seemed like there was a lack of attention to detail and accuracy in their billing department.
Overall, my experience with Abacus Data Systems Inc. has been disappointing. The lack of timely software updates, poor customer support, and billing errors have made it difficult for me to trust and rely on their services. I would not recommend this company to others in the accounting industry, as there are better options available that provide more reliable and efficient software solutions.

When we tried to cancel, they said we couldn't cancel because of the contract
When we tried to cancel, they said we couldn't cancel because of the contract. They mentioned it was stated in their contract. When we checked the contract, we didn't find it on the main page but in a hidden link that you had to click to see. I could understand if this was a service that couldn't be easily canceled. But that's not the situation here. We just want to cancel and not be charged for a service we don't use.
I switched to this cloud service 'cause it said it's a good solution with great customer service
I switched to this cloud service 'cause it said it's a good solution with great customer service. Me and my employees face issues every few months where we lose work time 'cause of an unstable system. We get locked out for different reasons. They even had to move us to another server once. Right now, I've been on hold for two hours. The reason is I got an error message when I tried to log in and the support person couldn't help me. He said it's my screen settings, which he changed without telling me what it was before he messed with my system. Meanwhile, I've missed another day of work.
I bought a service contract for my Amicus software program and have been paying $150 per month for the service
I bought a service contract for my Amicus software program and have been paying $150 per month for the service. But when I called for help, they told me they don't support this version anymore. I've been paying them $150 per month for 2 or 3 years. Only when I called for help did I find out they don't support my software version. On June 1, at 9:54 AM EDT, Ian Bernado messaged me: "Our team has completed ***: Billing issue. Solution: Remoted in and found out that you are still using Amicus Attorney Premium 2014. Informed you that we are not supporting the 2014 version and you need to speak to your sales rep." I made many calls but got no response.

I hired Abacus Next to host my business servers, but it turned out to be a real mess
I hired Abacus Next to host my business servers, but it turned out to be a real mess. We experienced two outages, one lasting a whopping 72 hours and another for about 6 hours. These outages completely blocked our access to the information stored on Abacus Next's servers, and it happened during our busiest time of the year. Their service is just not reliable at all.
Getting in touch with a representative for assistance is a nightmare. The wait times are ridiculously long, and even when you finally get through, they are not very responsive to service tickets. I mean, come on, it's like they don't even care about their customers.
On May 21st, I sent Abacus a written notification, both via email and certified letter, informing them that we were terminating our contract with them immediately and cutting ties with their services. We specifically asked them to remove the *** Accounting domain tenant (owned by *** Accounting) from the Microsoft Office record hosted by Abacus. But guess what? Abacus has flat out refused to release the domain tenant. It's like they're holding it hostage or something. This is causing major problems for us because we can't fully disengage from Abacus without this record being released.
Honestly, I wouldn't recommend Abacus Next to anyone. Their service is unreliable, their customer support is a joke, and they don't seem to care about their customers' needs. Save yourself the headache and find a better hosting provider.
On January 5, I sent a cancellation form to Abacus to cancel their service because the software wasn't working
On January 5, I sent a cancellation form to Abacus to cancel their service because the software wasn't working. Then, on January 18, they told me I had to submit the request again and mention that it was because of a breach. They said someone from Tech Support would contact me to help, but I had to wait 30 days for them to fix the problem before they could cancel my subscription. So, I sent the request again through email and certified mail to GC on the same day. On January 27, I emailed Abacus with a copy of the certified mail tracking receipt and reminded them that 30 days had passed without any contact from Tech Support.
Then, on March 5, I sent another cancellation via *** to the GC. On March 8 and March 16, I gave a copy of my cancellation to Billing and asked Abacus to stop the auto-billing because they hadn't fixed the breach. Ms. Bondoc said she would review the account for a decision. I reached out to her on March 22 and March 26, through email and phone. Except for Billing's email on March 16, there has been no response, but they keep billing me.
In September , I signed a 3-year software agreement with Abacus Data Systems Inc for Amicus Attorney
In September , I signed a 3-year software agreement with Abacus Data Systems Inc for Amicus Attorney. After my contract expired, I promptly informed them of my decision to cancel and not renew. They assured me that this was sufficient and that my information would be processed correctly. However, to my dismay, we continued to be charged. I reached out to them again to complain, only to be told (by the same person, mind you) that I needed to provide a 60-day notice as per the terms and conditions. They directed me to review these terms and conditions. Reluctantly, I filled out a formal cancellation form as requested. They assured me that they would handle the situation and even mentioned that a refund was being processed. But later, I was informed that the contract had automatically renewed.
When I initially signed up three years ago, the terms and conditions stated a 30-day notice and conversion to a month-to-month agreement. I have attached these terms and conditions, which I obtained from the Wayback Machine. We were never informed of any changes to these terms and conditions. They later admitted that they had the wrong email address for me due to a clerical error on their part, which is why we never received any email notifications as stated in their terms and conditions. Therefore, we never consented to the new terms and conditions. In any case, no court would enforce them.
In the end, I had no choice but to initiate a chargeback and block any future charges from Abacus Data Systems Inc. However, they continue to harass me and claim that I am still under contract, even though I never received any notice (they even deactivated unrelated software for which we had perpetual licenses). I demand that they acknowledge the cancellation of my account, adjust any billing discrepancies, and drop this matter entirely. I have attached email chains, the contract, and the original terms of service that I received when I signed the contract.
We've been with Abacus Next since 2017
We've been with Abacus Next since 2017. They gave us big discounts to sign a 3-year contract. When that contract ended, our rep contacted us 111 days before the renewal to talk about the terms. During our time with Abacus, our invoice totals went up by more than 65%. At our 2021 renewal, we told the account manager that we only wanted to renew for 1 year because we weren't happy with the price increases and the drop in service. We also told him to let us know about our 2022 renewal 90 days in advance. That account rep left Abacus in July , but we didn't find out until I emailed him in Dec 2021. Since then, we've had 2 new account managers, but we haven't heard anything about our 2022 renewal or anything else. Because the prices kept going up and the service kept getting worse, we decided to switch to another cloud server company. When we told our second new account manager about this, he immediately emailed me and said it was too late to cancel, so we would automatically renew. When we explained that we weren't happy with the huge price increases and the bad service, he said their office had talked to their legal team and we had to auto renew. He didn't even talk to his supervisor about it. He went straight to their legal team. The law on automatic renewals says that businesses have to clearly and concisely present the renewal offer terms and continuous service. Abacus has never given us any information about our 2022 renewal, and it's only 12 days away. They're forcing us to renew without even telling us the terms, and this is exactly why we decided to switch to another company.
I am a solo practitioner practicing Immigration Law in Phoenix Arizona
I am a solo practitioner practicing Immigration Law in Phoenix Arizona. I reached out to Abacus about the Private Cloud, a cloud-based office management software that can be tailored to my specialty field of law. I had shopped online and looked at *** video demonstrations of the Private Cloud and was impressed. After speaking to a sales representative, he said that he had spoken to his supervisors and that there a product exactly like the Private Cloud but tailored for small firms like mine. I conceded to install the software with the understanding that I was getting exactly what I had watched on the demonstration videos and was led to believe that was the case. I specifically asked if I would be getting all the forms that came with the Private Cloud since it helps with document preparation and is more efficient and less time consuming. It seemed as if it were worth the money. As part of the installation my e-mail was migrated to the Abacus cloud. The software I ended up with is called The Core Cloud. As soon as the installation was completed, I started having issues. The Core Cloud product is nothing like the Private Cloud product, it freezes my computer, sends my e-mail to different boxes where I do not get alerts and the software does not offer any of the forms (mentioned above) needed for my type of immigration practice as represented by the salesperson who sold me the product. The only persons responsive to my complaints were the IT people and that was twice since June 12th. Once when the software was being installed. During my conversation with that IT person he admitted that the Core Cloud was nothing like the Private Cloud. The Core Cloud is a new product where the Private Cloud has many years of development behind it. The second time an IT person responded when after a month of waiting for a reply from my sales rep after having sent an e-mail and a phone call I called once again called and pressed any number until I got a person and that person was from the IT department. That IT person sent an e-mail to the salesperson who finally called me the next day. At that point because of all the problems with the system and the non-existent customer service I wanted to separate my e-mail from the Abacus cloud and end the contract. To restore my e-mail I needed the Abacus IT department to act within a specific time frame which never happened and now I stand to lose any email from the June 12th to this date. Since June (the installation) I have been attempting to resolve issues. My e-mail continues to have problems and the we cannot used the software AT ALL. They had said the software was compatible with my computer but, it nevertheless freezes and crashes and without the forms the software is practically useless. Further, I recently leased a commercial printer in which I cannot scan to e-mail since my e-mail is on the Abacus cloud and the company has done nothing by way of what is needed from IT to be able to restore my e-mail to Go Daddy. Last time I talked to some one was approximately July 8th prior to that it was June 12th thru approximately 15th. On July 8th, I was given a number with and extension to call. I called approximately August 20th and have still not heard back from any one at the company. At this point I just want to end the contract since the product as represented to me is not the product I received. I have experienced many many problems with no resolution and the company has been non-responsive to my phone calls. Customer service has been non-existent, and I do not want to do business with them any longer. I did receive one e-mail approximately at the beginning of July from a sales manager (the company stated that it was from my sales rep, however, this is not the person who sold me the product nor had I ever heard of this person) who stated they were going to hold me to the three-year contract at over $400 a month for a non-working product with zero customer service resolution and a complete misrepresentation of what I was going to get for my money.
