Our furnace was running, but it wasn't blowing warm air. I contacted Action Furnace and a technician came to inspect it. After looking at the furnace for about ten minutes, he came upstairs and informed me that the inducer motor was not working. He mentioned that replacing the parts would cost $1200, but due to the age of the furnace, he recommended replacing the entire unit, which would cost $6500. I couldn't make a decision right away because the price was too high.
I then called a second company, but the technician didn't even touch the furnace and quoted a price of $4500 for a replacement. Feeling unsure, I decided to call a third company, ComplaintsBoard.com. As soon as their technician arrived and inspected the furnace (I observed his work the whole time), he discovered a broken wire next to the inducer motor. It appeared as though someone had intentionally cut it with a tool. He also cleaned a condensation pipe by washing it down in the bathroom, mentioning that this might have been the original reason for the furnace malfunctioning. He then reconnected the broken wires. Now, the furnace is working perfectly fine, and it only cost me $35 for the repair.
It's worth noting that the furnace was working fine last winter, and there were no broken wires until the Action Furnace technician came. He had taken a picture of the furnace with the wires connected properly. No one had touched the furnace until the technicians from the third company entered the furnace room.
