sick & dying puppies
In March 2016 I bought a puppy from Alaska Akita's & named him Tucker after a dear friend. Tucker & I were together 24 hours a day 7 days a week. He was my constant companion. Tucker had medical problems from the first month that I had him. Before his very short life was over he had to have medicine & artificial tears administered to his eyes 5 times a day. He would hear the alarm go off on my phone & stop what he was doing & come lay before me to take his medicine. By November 2016 Tucker was bleeding from his nose. The vet prescribed huge doses of steroids & it stopped bleeding. That night he started having bloody diarrhea. He is dying the vet said, he has no immune system. I had to take my friend to be euthanized & it broke my heart.in tears I stroked his head & told him that it wasn't his fault. Softly telling him how much I loved him & that he was a good boy.
After speaking with several vets, all of whom assured me that the lack of any immune function is very rare, I decided to get a "replacement" puppy from Alaska Akita's. Mrs. Lively said I could have my pick from the 3 male pups but that I would have to talk to Anthony Lively. He instead said that I would have to take 'Jack' because he thought that the other 2 male pups would be picked that night. Mr. Lively chose 'Jack' to send to me because he knew he was sick. 'Jack' whom I named Bodie was vomiting water from the first day that I got him. Who sends out a sick puppy? Alaska Akita's! Bodie soon had all the same symptoms as his 'brother' Tucker. After many vet visits, I was taking Bodie to see an Ophthalmologist at West Vet 3 hours away. On the way Bodie almost died from an Addison's Crisis. After 2 days of intensive care & over $2000.00 they saved Bodie's life. I cared for my very sick friend for another week when I read a complaint from Lizzy who had purchased a pup from the same litter I got Tucker from. I was crushed! Among other genetic diseases there was hip display. There are several diseases in this line of dogs traced back as far as Royalty Akita's (where Alaska Akita's bought their breeding dogs). I decided to have my friend euthanized. With a heavy heart I held Bodie in my arms. While I fed him treats, my vet have him the fatal shot. He barked once as she poked him & he collapsed in my arms. The little guy got the last word & he was gone. For the second time in 8 months I stood alone beside a mound of dirt in the woods, my heart raw with pain.
I wish upon no one the pain & suffering I myself & others have endured because of the ethics displayed by Anthony & Stephanie Lively.
I wish the law could prohibit them from ever breeding these dogs again. Unfortunately there is no such law.
On March 12th 2018 I sued & won the case against Alaska Akita's. There is still no happiness that came from this judgement. Alaska Akita's are still breeding & selling these potentially sick puppies. The Lively's have no scruples, so buyer's beware!
dog breeder
On October 8, 2016, we had to put our 8 1/2 month old puppy, Ronin, to sleep! He was sick for most of his life. At 4 months old he was diagnosed with genetic disease #1- Addison's Disease. At 8 months old he was diagnosed with genetic disease #2- Hip Dysplasia. He also suffered from numerous skin infections, a mal-formed front leg, severe ataxia in his hind end, and he had aggressive tendencies (could have been from the pain). In the end, he was barely able to walk and was whining and whimpering in pain.
Over the 7 months that we had him, we spent over $10, 000 in medical bills, and we were still unable to find the cause of his ataxia and help him to get well. We loved him tremendously and are devastated by this loss. 8 1/2 months is not long enough!
The breeder did offer to give us a new puppy per our contract, but we were not interested in a different dog, and we would not have taken a risk with the same gene pool and inexperience of this breeder.
Alaska Akitas makes false claims on their website. They do not do OFA or any other recommended testing on their dogs, even though they "guarantee" that their puppies will pass the testing. Anthony Lively has proven himself to be irresponsible and unwilling to take the necessary steps to give his dogs the best chance at a healthy life. He refused to make any financial contribution to Ronin's medical care and after we made the most difficult decision we had to make, he had the gall to call us murderers and wish us a lifetime of sleepless nights. He is an irrational, hateful human being and he should not be allowed to own a dog, let alone breed them.
I want the Livelys to stop breeding dogs! I want them to have OFA testing done on all of their dogs that they own. I want them to notify all owners that their dogs have the potential to have or carry at least 2 known genetic diseases. I want them to remove all of the false claims from their website. I want a refund for the purchase price of Ronin. I do not want any other puppies to suffer like Ronin did. I want some empathy!
I have medical records and emails/messages that verify everything I have said.
Do not buy a puppy from Alaska Akitas- Anthony and Stephanie Lively- in Ketchikan, AK.
The Lively's continue to breed their dogs. They just lost a case in small claims court, March 2018. These "breeders" sold a woman a sick puppy (my Ronin's brother), that presented with the same symptoms as my boy, and eventually needed to be put to sleep, just like my Ronin-- two dogs from same litter, sick beyond help with Addison's Disease. They sent the owner a replacement puppy. This new puppy arrived sick. After that point, the Lively's refused to help or cooperate with the owner. They did not acknowledge that the dog was sick, nor did they show any concern or empathy for these puppies. The replacement puppy, he, too, needed to be put down for the same health problems. He only lived a few months. There have now been (at least) THREE documented deaths due to Addison's Disease, as well as a myriad of other issues. Another one of their dogs was recently put down because of aggression problems beyond help. There is a reason that they lost in small claims court. They are guilty. They lie. They claim we are making it up, while we both have plenty of medical records to support our cases. All they care about is making money on these dogs. Many of which will not live the long and healthy lives that they deserve.
Please contact me at lissi72@comcast.net if you want more information. I am happy to provide! My advice is to stay far, far away from them!
Just want to add, as I read these ridiculous responses again, that I was in close contact with Anthony's vet in Alaska. She was incredibly supportive, helpful, kind, and concerned about our puppy. She herself, upon hearing Ronin's symptoms, suggested that it could be Addison's. She also made reference to an earlier puppy of his having Addison's, but he has denied this. She also voiced her dismay at Anthony's breeding practices and shared some information regarding his character, as well as examples from those in their community who have voiced their concerns.
Our neighbor, being a vet, is the reason why Ronin didn't die from that initial Addisonian crisis. I carried his limp, dying body over to her house and she immediately had us rush him over to her office. She knew the symptoms and we did the test that confirmed it (this is called an ACTH Stimulation test, Anthony, look it up!)!
I could respond to each of these numbered responses, however, I think the fact that you can't spell my name correctly AND you are so unbelievably misinformed and ignorant about Addison's disease speaks volumes! I'm not going to waste my time explaining my 100% appropriate responses and behavior regarding my extremely ill (now deceased) puppy, or show proof to your many lies included here. Any responsible breeder would respond with sympathy, concern, and an eagerness to right a wrong, AND would remove the risk of a documented genetic defect from a breeding line.
A simple google search will explain Addison's and how it is accurately and definitively diagnosed. The fact that you can't even do that, and/or are willing to believe the lies that your just-as-ignorant-and-greedy-as-you-breeder, Royalty, tells you, shows that you are not fit to breed and sell puppies. Royalty is terrible and you've invested so much time and money into them that you are unwilling to accept the fact that he is a backyard breeder. People need to be made aware of these health risks, and I am not the only person who has brought aggression and health concerns to your attention. You are lucky I haven't taken legal action, yet. You might want to be careful about what you write down. I have nothing to hide and have done nothing that anyone else in my position wouldn't have done.
Additionally, how about that litter born to that "breeder" in Alaska who has one of Ronin's siblings? How about the fact that you allowed someone like that, to continue breeding your line?!? Do you know that she lies and says that Hoshi and Kodiak were the parents of her litter? That her dogs were both under one year old at the time of her first litter. That she's already had two litters! THAT'S NOT RESPONSIBLE BREEDING!
Why don't you care that a puppy that you bred, suffered and died because of your dogs!?! Right a wrong, dude, and don't argue with the facts!
The Lively's (Anthony & Stephanie) in Ketchikan, Alaska are breeding sick dogs! There are NO OFA health tests (hips, eyes, thyroid, elbows & patellar) on any of the adult breeding dogs. They claim they do. They claim the dogs come from a show breeder (Royalty Akitas) in California. Royalty has NEVER shown any dog, ever! He lied to the Lively's and has taught them to lie & scam puppy buyers as well! Royalty has over 50 dogs & is a mass producer/puppymill! The Lively's breed the same two females to the one male, which continues to produce very sick pups/dogs. Most of which either die or have to be put to sleep because they are too ill. Do NOT believe them when they say they stand by their contracts, they do NOT! They will NOT help with vet bills, or refund your money if pup dies. They lie on their web site, they lie to prospective buyers. BUYER BEWARE of these scam artists who only care about the money they get from those they sucker into buying an unhealthy puppy!
Another couple in south central have a puppy this is so sick she may be dying. Presented with a lot of symptoms other sick pups have. The dogs this breeder started with also have many complaints lodged against thatbreeder as well (Royalty Akitas.) Lively has also lost a lawsuit this year when 2 pups died.
To whom it may concern,
My name is Anthony Lively and I am the owner of Alaska Akitas. This is (part 1) of my formal response to Case # [protected].
Please keep in mind this email is (part 1) as I will need to forward you many emails containing my "proof" in this matter.
To summarize what exactly is going on here I will outline the major events and address the accusations made. But again, (most) of my "proof" will be in the numerous emails I will forward.
1. Over the course of our breeding program we have produced around sixty puppies with only two who ever (to this date) have had any health issues. Both of which came from the same litter and was a direct result of a large litter (11 pups in that litter).
2. I noticed a skin issue on the Two puppies when they were about three weeks old. I took them into our vet and was told that because of the large litter they were born with the undeveloped immune system. They were prescribed and antibacterial shampoo and the skin issue cleared up within a week.
2. I was contacted by Lizzy and she wanted a "cheap" puppy. I told her about the two puppies and their skin issues, offered them at a highly discounted price with a health guarantee and I paid the travel cost (around $700 from Alaska to Florida with one night in Seattle at a pet resort).
(I will forward the health guarantee).
3. Lizzy contacted me about a week after getting the puppy saying he was very aggressive towards her full grown Akita. She showed me a video of her full grown Akita running into the puppy at full speed, from one end of the backyard to the other, the puppy picking himself up then barking only to get run over repeatedly while the family laughed.
She said "he just won't back down" and the video was her proof of aggression.
4. Some time later she contacted me saying her puppy had health issues and did not know the cause. I paid my vet to analyze her vets information as well as sent all of the vet information to my breeder. No one had any explanation for the issues.
5. About a week later Lizzy sent me an email saying "her next door neighbor is a veterinarian" and she thinks the puppy has Addison disease.
(There are two problems here, there is no actual test or any way to prove a dog has Addison disease and the diagnosis coming from her next-door neighbor is a conflict of interest).
Nevertheless I had my vet and my breeder look over her new veterinarians information. My breeder called me instantly and spotted the fact that in the first few veterinarian reports there were no signs of coccidia, but in the latest reports her puppy in fact did have coccidia. This fact shows that her puppy contracted coccidia while in her care and not before her puppy arrived.
When I questioned her about this she told me "The vet made a typo he does not have coccidia".
My breeder told me this was a huge red flag and most likely she has not been providing proper nutrition and or care for her puppy. Nevertheless my breeder took all of her veterinarian notes and information to his reproduction specialist at UCLA California. The reproduction Specialist could not diagnose the puppy with Addison disease.
6. Soon after, Lizzy contacted me in an email saying that she might have to put her puppy down and she wanted me to pay for all of her vet bills ($10, 000). I told her not to do that and that I would pay all of the shipping cost to have her puppy sent back to me and that I would take care of that puppy for the rest of his life as well as replace her puppy but I would not pay her any money. (You will see in our health guarantee that Addison disease or any other of her puppy's symptoms are covered in our health guarantee, yet I went above and beyond our health guarantee by offering to replace her puppy and paying for the shipping to have her puppies sent back to me so that puppy could live a long happy life.
7. Lizzy then called me and told me that if I did not pay her $10, 000 that she was going to ruin our reputation as breeders. I told her again that I would not pay her any money but I would pay for all of the shipping cost for her puppy to be sent back to me so her puppy could live a long happy life here and I would replace her puppy and that was out of the kindness of my heart. (with our health guarantee and contract of sale I was not obligated to ever replace her puppy nor pay for any of her vet bills with the diagnosis is provided).
8. Within the next few weeks I received phone calls from literally 80% of people who have gotten puppies from us saying that she had contacted them telling them that we breed sick dogs and their puppies are sick too.
9. Then she wrote a bad review on Google which I did not even try to have takin off because anyone who reads the whole rant and review will see that she is absolutely a liar and a crazy person because almost everything that she rants and lies about his contradicted by a quoted email that I sent her.
10. On this newest review here on your website she is saying that her puppy had Addison disease and hip dysplasia and had to be put down at eight months old and "she has proof". The fact is, there isn't a veterinarian in this country that will or even could diagnose a puppy at eight months old with hip dysplasia. A veterinarian could not make a diagnosis of hit dysplasia until the puppy becomes a full-grown adult at the minimum of two years old. Also as mentioned previously there is no way to prove any dog has Addison's disease because there is no actual test that can be done to determine this only speculations. Not only is there no actual proof of Addison disease, without a second opinion and with only the diagnosis from her next-door neighbor this conflict of interest makes this diagnosis not credible.
11. And this newest review on your website she is also saying that our dogs did not come from champion bloodlines. Are dogs absolutely do you come from champion bloodlines (see in emails I will send shortly) this is just a new revised slander Lizzy has made up.
12. Also on this newest review she is now saying that we do not health test our dogs and get our dogs from a breeder known for poor breeding practices. Both of these statements are untrue and unfounded. (I will email the health testing done in an email here shortly).
Are dogs all come from Royalty Akitas, Who has been a member of your website for many many years and is actually known for being one of the better if not the best breeder in the country.
I will now begin to forward all of the emails from Lizzie and any other emails that will support The fax I have stated. I apologize in advance for how many emails are actually going to be coming your way and the length of the emails from Lizzy. I hope that you see that we have done all that we could possibly do for her and her puppy, we have gone above and beyond what are contract and health guarantee states and we are now the victims of slander.
Sincerely Anthony Lively; Alaska Akitas
PS, this is a copy and pasted response to another complaint filed by the same person.
I would likely to add, we have only this one complaint with around 60 puppies produced and re homed. If you visit our website you will find numerous notes from our costumers with 5 star reviews. Don't be fooled by one spiteful person.

Thank you for sharing your story, Viki. My boy and your two boys makes 3 known sick and eventually euthanized puppies from this breeder. And I know of one other one that had to be put down because of aggression issues. There have to be more out there with these problems, and who knows what else! There will continue to be generations of dogs born with these life-threatening genetic illnesses if they don't stop breeding their lines. It's disgraceful and the worst part is that they lie, deny any wrong doing, and just plain don't care that dogs are suffering because of their greed. They need to be stopped!
I agree completely. I just don't know how these people sleep at night knowing that they are breeding dogs that are passing on these horrific diseases! The puppies themselves suffering great pain before they are put to death. I just can't believe that they would be SO greedy that they would chance having ANY puppies going through what my two pups, your puppy & others had to go through! It sickens me to think that we have to walk this earth with people like the Lively's that have no ethics. I am sure that Karma will take it's toll on them before it's over.
