This company does not honor their contract and pay claims
This extended warranty was bought in 2000 and has been kept up to date and extended by payments tand renewal to this company since then. So for 11 years I have been paying this extended warranty. Yet now when there is a claim on the transmission. The American Auto Shield refuses to pay the claim. It has made up excuses not to pay this claim. This is a terrible injustice to the customer. Do not buy any extended warranty from American Auto Shield. Terrrible company and you will get screwed out of your money.

AUTO warranty
I placed a claim with them for repair to a luxury German Vehicle, once they heard that the repair is $6000, they use every kind of tactics to avoid moving forward with the claim. They reacts only when someone contact them, never would they call me or the repair shop to follow up; the only time they called me about my claim is to suggest I take the cars somewhere else for repair; then they put all kinds of spins to delay the claim, even denying the certified Mercedes Mechanic’s analyze and tells me that I needed to replace an engine that is not needed. When I refuse their suggestion and informed them that even the repair shop is against additional, unnecessary repairs, they have the audacity to threaten to have my car tow to a dealer of their choice to make the repair and if I refuse, they’ll deny the claim. They also told me that I am responsible for any charges that I incurred for I refuse to go to a repair shop of their choice, when I asked them if their shop is qualify or certified on my type of cars; they refuse to provide a straight answer. When I asked them if they considered me a customer, they come right out and admitted that they just manage the contract that I brought from someone else! In other words, I am NOT their customer. This after I've informed them that I they already took my money for the coverage, the Manager (Curtis) claims that HE didn't took my money and it’s not his problem. Forget about the rental, they said as long as the claim is not approve, no rental is authorized. When I told them that they're the one holding up the claim, he blamed all on my decision to bring my car to a CERTIFIED repair shop of choice by the manufacturer.
Now the next delay tactic is asking for oil samples for analyze, when I ask them what is this for; they again go back to saying that they want to proof out their theory that I REALLY need an engine, which they already have in place without any supporting evidence from anyone that its needed. AMAZING! They could positively identify what I needed by just looking at some pictures and completely rules out expert mechanical opinions.
When I ask them for a refund because it’s obscene to conduct further business with them; the manager informed me that NO REFUND since they have not officially denied my claim, so it’s just in a state of hold, I then suggest that this hold state could be years, he said YES!
IF YOU STILL WANT TO DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY AFTER KNOWING MY EXPERIENCE, YOU DESERVE TO BE SEPERATED FROM YOUR MONEY AND VALIDATE THE THEORY THAT A SUCKER IS BORN EVERY MINUTE..
Shoddy Service
American Auto Shield is full of crap. I will not renew my warranty with them when it expires in 1 year. I paid $80.00 dollars a month for 2 years. Keep in mind I have a zero deductible. Every claim which has been filed against my car I have had issues. The dealership (mechanic) states it will take them 2 hours to perform a particular job, they the warranty company says their records indicate it should only take 1 hour to complete that particular job. I the one with a zero deductible gets stuck paying for the other hour. So I ask the Ameriacn Auto Shield for a recommended repair facility which I can take my vehicle to, they tell me they can not tell me where to take the vehicle. BUT they will not honor what the FORD dealer claims is their hourly rated repair times. Now I am told the company which they contracted my warranty through has went belly up since September 2010. I found out yesterday when my vehicle was again at the Ford dealer being repaired. NOW I (REMEMBER ZERO DEDUCTIBLE) HAVE TO PAY UP FRONT FOR THE REPAIR AND GET REIMBURSED IN 3-4 WEEKS FOR REPAIRS WHICH ARE COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY. THE TOTAL BILL IS OVER $900.00 I WILL GET ABOUT $600.00 FROM THEM... AGAIN I AM GETTING HOSED FOR THE REPAIR TIME THE DEALER IS STATING. I DID SAY I HAD ZERO DEDUCTIBLE... I WILL NEVER NEVER EVER EVER RENEW THIS WARRANTY WITH AMERICAN AUTO SHIELD... RUN FAR AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY.

I am the CFO and Operations Manager for AAS. So if the customer is charged too much by the shop, he makes a complaint against US? We do not do the work. All we do is say what is covered or not per the contract terms. We employ ASE Certified former mechanics so our people know full well what it takes to do these repairs. If our people know it takes 1 hour to do a job from experience, we are not going to pay a shop 3 hours just because they ask for it. In fact, you a customer should be concerned about a shop that is trying to overcharge you like that, instead of making complaints against us for not simply handing over a blank check to them. The bottom line is we have a contract and those terms have to be observed. If a customer has a problem with the shop, they need to take that up with them.
Selling unneeded product to elderly person
Last night I went over to an elderly friends house to help her figure out why she was having problems with balancing her checkbook. When I was looking at the check register I noticed that she was paying $79/month to American Auto Shield for "Basic Powertrain Coverage". I asked her why she was paying for breakdown coverage on her car and she said that someone had called her and told her that she needed it.
Well, I told her that her 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass, that has only 29, 888 miles on it, has a resale value of $477 and that no-one should be selling her coverage that will cost her $2, 015 over a two year period, she became upset. She realized that she had been taken advantage of by a smooth talking sales person (Joshua Hampton) and was thankful that I had looked at her checkbook.
Personally, I can't believe that her car, which she has put less than 30, 000 miles on in 18 years, will ever need to be repaired. She puts an average of 1667 miles/year on her car, and the 4 years of coverage that she was sold for $2, 015 will only cover her for about 6, 667 miles (given that she will not drive it more than she has in the past). The only driving she does is to the doctors office and back home. Since she purchased this policy on 10/5/2010 (3 months ago), she has put less than 200 miles on it.
I will be contacting American Auto Shield in the morning to see if they will give her all of her money back, or if I need to initiate a legal proceeding against them for cheating an elderly woman out of her money. I can't wait to take this to court and sue them not only for the money they stole from her, but also to sue them for damages.
I will keep you posted on the outcome of this travesty.
I am the CFO of AAS. First of all, AAS does not sell contracts. We develop them and administrate the claims. If this individual wants to contact me and provide me with details I will certainly look into it with the sales company. However, this complaint should be made against the proper company, which is NOT us.
Misrepresentation
I purchased an extended warranty on my vehicle from American Auto Shield several years ago. This week my vehicle required repair. My mechanic submitted a claim to American Auto Shield and the claim was accepted. This morning I received a call from my mechanic stating that the replacement parts (fuel pump) sent by American Auto Shield were used. My mechanic advised me that installing a used fuel pump is not recommend practice and suggested I contact the warranty company for an explanation. When I called American Auto Shield I was told that nothing could be done and that if I wanted to return the used part I would be charged for the cost of the call tag sent to pick it up from my mechanic ($88.00). I have called two other mechanics and they have confirmed that not only is using a used fuel pump not recommended but it is potentially dangerous. American Auto Shield is only willing to pay $300.00 for a repair that is going to cost me $742.55. When I called I asked to speak with a Manager but was told no. Do not buy from American Auto Shield - not only do they misrepresent themselves but they could cause you to be in danger by sending used parts to your mechanic. I have filed a complaint with the Nevada Division of Insurance and hope they will stop this company from taking advantage of other consumers.
WOW! there is A LOT of HORROR Stories here Guys! GL!
same situation. I have had an alternator go out and after running through the loops with AAS they didnt cover it. I called three other extended warranty companies that all said they would have covered the alternator at the same conditions applying. I am switching warranty companies as 185/mth for over a year and nothing in return=bull****. For a CFO to act like he know go find some other way to use your time and pretend that you actually serve people in some way shape or form.
Bottom line is replace the part with a new one so that it does not fail on the customer. Why use a used part makes no sense and futher more in my contract it does not show that using a used part is part of the deal. Would you like used parts in your car that you tranport your family in? Knowing that it could possibly go out at any time? There is no piece and mind knowing that used parts are being used to repair ones vehicle. What kind of warranty does a used pump have? Probably none because if it did fail and the customer had to recontact AAS about needing another repair they would probably tell you the repair is not covered because you had a used part installed. I strongly recommend you really look at their warranties before you purchase one. It has not helped our house hold one bit.
I am the CFO of AAS. There are times where we may authorize replacement with used or re manufactured parts. However, that's ONLY if the shop refuses to work with us on price. We would always prefer to use the shop's part to minimize the hassle to the customer. However, if a shop wants $700 for a fuel pump when the same fuel pump in the same condition is available for $200, the contract dictates that we use the less expensive one. The contracts are not just a "blank check" for the customers and shops to fill in any amount they wish. As far as any safety concerns, that is absurd and completely baseless, which is about PAR for an internet posting. We employ ASE Certified mechanics and they would never authorize a part that would be a safety concern. Regarding a fuel pump specifically there is no safety issue at all. If it fails, the engine would just gradually die. A flat tire would pose more danger. I can find twice as many "objective" mechanics (that is to say mechanics who are not being paid to replace your fuel pump) that will tell you that there is no issue in using a used fuel pump. In addition, no one would ever say "no you cannot speak to a manager" here. We have managers on call all day long and people can even reach me directly if need be. This is yet another posting that "strays" considerably from the facts.
SCAMMED ME INTO GETTING CAR WARRENTY

I bought a policy through these guys, and they have SERIOUSLY overpromised & underdelivered. They try to deny EVERY claim, but in the end, I end up paying for about half of every claim. $1200 bills- I usually pay $600, they nitpick and don't fix things that need fixing. Example- A/C compressor went, and when your compressor goes, you have to also replace your dryer or the factory warranty on the compressor is invalid. They wouldn't replace the dryer...add on $300 to me to fix that (B/c if the air didn't blow cold after the compressor was put in, I'd be paying another $100 deductible and be w/o a car for 3-4 days). The promise free rental cars, but it takes their reps 2-3 days to get to see the car, then 2 days to fight what they are trying to rip you off on, then a day to repair the car. They only pay for 1 day of rental car service, even though it takes their techs out to even LOOK AT THE CAR! Never, never use these people, it is a HUGE waste of money! Buy an extended factory warranty.

I used this company as well and it is exactly as the first reviewer stated! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!
I had the same situation like unclewillie. I will not trust this service. I told them I have never heard of this company and would like to look into their business, he was not very happy about it and was pushing for their service. I am glad I declined and am now reading this post.
William, United States, American Auto Shield called me today, their offer began by stating that they was going to take my recorded information to see if I quailfied for their extended warranty protection, I want every one who gets a call from any one (company) like this, that is "Are You Interested In The Product There Pushing?" . As I told them the real question is, do I want what your offering.
TO YOU: If we didn't have an extended warranty before they called and was Not looking for one, then don't get talked into their program and ther pressure, the man told me when I told him I was going to go on the internet and check their company out to see if I wanted to do business with them he said" this is not like buying pizza", I said you mean you call with a phone offer and this is the only time I have to make a choice, he said yes thats the way it works. Of course that was the end of the call but these folks have called my phone at least eight times in the last year so I suspect they will be calling again as nothing ever happend.
Look Its your money do with as you will, but wouldn't you feel better if you did your own research and information gathering on a service or product than to grab up a slick talking person on the phone that j u s t h a p p e n d to call on saturday, sunday, every one elses work after hours? Not Going To purchase their Service, William...
Totally agree...same situation. They are absolutely the worst company in the world. They pretty much will not pay for anything. You pay them to stay in business they will think of the most ridiculous things to not pay out. Even if they make complete fools of themselves trying. They are rip offs
Warranty America
Please be aware that Warranty America - has had a name change or was acquired - their new scam name is American Auto Shield.
Stay away from this so called auto warranty company. They do not pay out or honor their contract as they state. They claim bumber to bumper coverage - but later state does not include rust - rubber parts - and bolts. what car either new or old does not have a little rust on the bottom, what car does not have rubber parts -- and bolts. This notice came after we purchased this agreement - on my way to fight this battle with the Better Business Bureau and file a lawsuit.

Just a scam
This outfit hires indian scammers who violate federal law by calling numbers on no-call list.
They claim that even maintenance items are covered which an outright lie. How I know? I spent nearly 20 years in the field as a Mechanical Breakdown Inspector so I know fraud when I see it.
We are a repair facility do not use this breakdown insurance company all they want to do is find a way to deny claims there are a lot of others that are actually good services. Do your research before buying. 11/29/2022
The number i was given was [protected] and it did work.
i got used and they changed thier name again to national auto division howell nj.they were supposed to debit my account one time and they have done it 4 times so far.i am soo pissed.american auto shield is a scam and took over close to 700 from me and i have not used them once and i have not gotten anything in the mail o from them either all they have done is take my money without my approval.im thinking an open shut case for me cause i am taking them to court to get my money back.unless they end my contract and refund my money.i cant cancell my contract with them if when the number they gave me doesnt work after i gave them the initial payment.then they kept taking money out of my account without my approval.so i had to get a new card and stop payment on them.i will give them a week to give me my money back or ill have a lawyer to get it for me.
To think I was about to sign up for this service...I'm certainly glad I read the customer complaints here, but really more than anything I'm glad I read the responses from the "CFO": it's his testy responses that have really steered me away from this apparent scam operation. And this guy is representing the company? No thanks.
The old adage seems to be proven once again.
If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.
We actually deny VERY little, but the fact is some claims have to be denied. If we paid out everything as you suggest how could we stay in business? It's not possible. There is a contract here and some things are not covered. No contract, not even those from the manufacturers, cover EVERY thing.
Yeah to the cfo you pay out millions of dollars, how many millions do you denie, because all I ever get are denials, so get off your high horse.
I am the CFO and Operations Manager for American Auto Shield and this is an ABSURD posting. We pay out over a million dollars a month in claims so for anyone to claim that we don't "honor" the contract is ridiculous. What they really mean is we did not do what THEY want, even though the contract has very specific terms. I have been on record for years saying if we make a mistake we will correct that mistake, but let's discuss specifics and facts, not make generalizations that are provably false.

American Auto Shield is a joke. You make your payments and when you make a claim, this company use every trick in the book not to pay. This company gets into a argument with the dealership and will not pay my claim. If your smart do not get involve with this company!
