I vividly heard a sarcastic remark about me from Dr. Stephanie Gafford to a nurse from outside of my room prior to being seen. “He wants his Gabapentin refilled” “well that’s not happening” I don’t know if she didn’t think I could hear it or didn’t care but either way, it was unprofessional and arrogant. I later went to the ER and received better treatment and all of my needs were addressed. My seizure and neuropathy medication Gabapentin was refilled and I wasn’t treated like a drug seeker. I was also provided with a referral to a neurologist which Dr. Gafford did not do as she said she would. She did explain that she couldn’t refill a controlled substance there which makes sense but I took offense to her comments in the hallway. It’s not polite to stereotype or profile patients.
Report the incident directly to American Family Care’s management, detailing Dr. Gafford’s unprofessional behavior and failure to follow through on your referral. Emphasize that her comments were inappropriate and offensive. Request a formal review of your case and insist on improved patient treatment. If unsatisfied with their response, consider escalating the matter to a medical board for further investigation.
