The customer service rep who was supposedly "helping" me with the move told me to underestimate the number of boxes I would be moving. On moving day, the movers (subcontractors, not American Vanlines employees) could not fit all of my belongings on the van, which was already partially filled with other customers' belongings.
I called customer service to see what could be done, I was told that no one in the company would advise me to "underestimate. Fortunately, I had the name of the person who had so advised and that person confirmed my comment. AVL said that they would move the remaining boxes for $3000 and it would be done a week later. I was moving out of a rental house and the landlord had no interest in my leaving my belongings in the house for another week since he had already rented the house to someone else.
During the move, my custom-made desk on which I need to put 3 monitors for work was destroyed. Boxes were lost. AVL has told me that they might pay me 60 cents per pound of the desk — which will not come close to paying for a replacement desk — if I get 3 appraisals. Since I do not have photos of the contents of the missing boxes, AVL will not reimburse me anything for those items.
I have filed a claim but any money I recover will not be adequate recompense or pay for replacements.
Desired outcome: At the very least, I would expect money to replace my desk. I would hope to receive money to go towards replacing the items that were left behind or lost.
