Negligence, Malpractice
I have used Dr. Kevin Smith for 20 years and they used to be wonderful. They just do not care anymore. They killed 4 of my Doberman puppies by first exposing them to Parvo because they did not follow proper procedures and then they treated them with expired medicine. This medicine had expired in Feb 2004. That means they gave them medicine that was over 4 years out of Date. I was in and out of the clinic several times over a 2 week period because they were trying to treat the puppies that they had given Parvo to and not once did they have me come in the back door. Instead they let me sit in the waiting room with my dieing puppies while other clients had their pets in the waiting room as well. These Clients had no idea their pets were also being exposed to the deadly disease. At one point after I noticed that one of my sick puppies had left a Parvo smeared paw print on the door I sit in my car to watch and see if they would clean up after me and they never did. While I was watching 2 other clients walked through that same door with their puppies. I wondered how many puppies have to die before they start to care? 2 hours later when I took another sick puppy in they had still never cleaned off the door. I asked the Vet on call about it and he said " I don't know why we don't clean, It is a Bio Hazard. You need to talk to Dr. Smith about that. After leaving several messages for Kevin to call me back I was finally able to talk to Kevin Smith about it. He told me that he knows they did a lot of things wrong but then he told me that my puppies were not worth much and he was shocked that I thought they were. I have nothing but imported Dobermans and all have nothing but Champion lines. I think it is so sad because it doesn't matter if they were mix breeds or Champion Dogs, we loved each and every one of them. We miss our babies and he didn't care enough to return my call. This matter as been turned over to the Mississippi Board Of Vet medicine because it is against the federal Animal Welfare acts to give expired medicine.
Dee, I am so glad we had a chance to talk. It was very sad to hear you also lost a dog due to Dr. Kevin Smith and his clinic. It is very hard to have to say good bye to a 4 legged family member and I want you to know you will be in my prayers.
Thank you for your support. Trust me I am doing everything I can do. I have turned him over to the BBB, Attorney General and the MS board of Vet's. If you can think of anything I have missed by all means let me know. These babies died a horrible death that could have been prevented.
There is a typo. The expiration date is Feb 2007, 4 years ago. The vets office passed Parvo not only to my puppies while they were doing routine ear crops but also to another client on that same day. To answer your question, These are the exact fluids given to my puppies Jan 15th 2011 for the treatment of Parvo. The most important treatment for Parvo puppies is Fluids. In Fact Fluids are vital in the effort to save a Parvo puppy. In this situation Fluids are deemed Medical. Dehydration is the number 1 cause of death in Parvo puppies. If your puppy were dying of Parvo and your vet wanted to give you fluids would you take a chance on fluids that had expired in 2007 and were no longer deemed safe, effective, and Sterile by the Federal animal welfare dept. or would you want only the best? This is what the Federal animal Welfare Act has to say about Expired Fluids:
Conditional Use of Expired Medical Materials:
Most medical materials (e.g., drugs, fluids, disinfectant solutions, catheters, sutures, etc.) are imprinted with an expiration date. Beyond this date, the manufacturer does not guarantee the sterility, safety, or stability of the item. The use of expired materials without justification constitutes inadequate veterinary care under the Federal Animal Welfare Act.
Expired Materials
In keeping with recent federal guidelines all drugs and medical materials administered to any live vertebrate animals must be used within their expiration date (see applicable regulations below and note that Boston University policy covers all vertebrate animals). This includes fluids (such as saline & heparin) and materials (such as sutures). Therefore, please adhere to the following policy:
1. Expired anesthetic, analgesic, or emergency drugs cannot be used on live animals under any circumstances.
2. Other expired drugs or medical supplies cannot be used for any survival procedures, but can be used for non-survival procedures in cases where their use would not compromise the experiment. Scientific justification for their use must be approved by the IACUC.
3. All drugs and sterile medical supplies must be marked with an expiration date in accordance with the following guidelines for expiration dating of medical materials.
Take the time to examine your inventory, and discard any outdated items. Please be aware that the animal facility staff has been instructed to dispose of any and all materials housed within the animal facility that are beyond their expiration date as required by federal regulations.
These are the puppies that will never be able to lay in the sun on a cool day and play with their mother again...

Does anyone know what robyn can do? I mean, shouldn't she do something? What is she waiting for I wonder? I mean, does she not know that in this State this "might" consuetude a felony. Disease control is disease control, and how many people will robyn hurt if she let's this go? Besides, I think she is pretty upset? I wonder if she cried when her babies died? All I can say robyn is you can contact me and I can help. an animal cannot speak for itself, and needs you to do so. You need to do the right thing here. Think with me: "Look how you are feeling now, how are you going to feel if you let this go? - There is a way to stop this kind of stuff from happening to "patient-recipients" and animals that cannot speak for themselves.
