Bait and Switch tactics
During the summer of 2007, a very sly APEX alarm, door-to-door salesman came to our door and got us to sign up for an alarm system. We were told we could cancel at any time (which you can only if you pay out the contract or get someone to take it over). We were also told the system was the best around. We signed the contract not knowing we only had a 3 day cancellation period and the alarm stopped working on the second week. We called Apex alarm and they sent out a tech. He tried to fix the unit, but could not get it to talk to the cell phone tower very well. We were told the system may go offline and come back online sometimes. I told him that was not acceptable. He told me to call HQ. I procrastinated since it was working again. The alarm worked for another few days and broke again. We called Apex alarm and told them we want to cancel the service and they said we could not. We were also upset with the installation. They cracked the trim on our doors when mounting the door sensors. They declined to help in any way besides sending out another 'college kid' tech. We cancelled our bank account and they are now coming after us with collection services. I have been hung up on twice by collections department and one guy threatened they will take us to court if I do not pay the $1500 contract. This is ugly. We have filed with the BBB and are going public with our local news about the poor business practices APEX alarm follows. I hope everyone in this state knows not to let these people into their doors. They don't have a good product hence the 3-day cancellation term. DO NOT LET THEM IN YOUR DOOR AND DO NOT GET A HOUSE ALARM FROM THEM! Get a dog or a gun. Otherwise, they will use any tactic to get you into a contract which you cannot terminate.

I filed a BBB complaint against this company several years ago. The alarm wires were cut(puppy) and they never called. I was told if the wires were ever cut the police would come immediately and if the power was off they would still be able to monitor. I signed a 5 year contract without knowing. I didn't even want the alarm but they pressured me into it saying it would be free if I put up signs advertising their services. They repeatedly harassed my emergency contact, my dad who was not amused to be called at all hours over money I owed. I finally cancelled my bank account and told this company that they couldn't collect for services not rendered since my system didn't work. I would like to get in a class actin in South Carolina.
The salemen/ saleboys in utah are very shady same as most these complaints is the fact that they told me I could cancel anytime nothing about a contract its been two years talkin back and forth with apex and just recently I have a lawyers office contacting me telling me I owe. 1500 or more dollars when I heard this amount and just laughed at them as a electrician I've wired everthing they put in and more for other houses. With all the equipment being only a couple hundred dollars in short apex is a big rip off and there sales men are the best hustler conmen I have ever met.
We got sucked into it just like the rest of you back in 2008. The very next day after it was installed, we found out that everything the rep had told us about the crime in our neighborhood was a lie. We immediately called to cancel the service. A lady answered the phone all friendly like and I explained that we just had it installed yesterday but it wasn’t going to work for us and that we would like to cancel. She paused for about 10 seconds and then hung up. I called right back and got no answer. I called repeatedly for the next 2 days and never got through. On the 4th day after the installation, I called again and the same lady that hung up on me before answered. I told her whats been going on and she denied any such phone call but told me that if we would like cancel that would be fine but we had to pay 2500 or whatever it was because 3 days have passed now on the contract.
To say I was pissed off would be a major understatement. I told myself then and to this day that I would not pay these people a dime, ever. We have had 3 collection agencies come after us and I tell them all the same thing. We have no debt because we cancelled it. I will do jail time before I pay them a cent.
My oh my! If I had read this before the door to door. Salesman came to our door we would of never of signed up .HAVING MISSED A GREAT. DEAL ON HOME SECURITY . I drove hard for a deal that included, two master pads one led, second not led .3 glass break detector, 3 motion dect.plus four door entry detectors
Two keyless entry.Foabs . The installer spent a good 3 hours here for installing & programming ..three lite app signs all the window decals I needed Sure we had a few false alarms each time a tech was dispatched with in 24 /48 hrs. At no cost even thou sensors were replaced ...We did sign up. For3 year contract @ 49.99 a mo... Cell phone.& pc alerts...After the young man came to our door I did contacted about six other providers, who were all over the place with cost & equipment "basic equipment provided ONLY " all other required equipment had to be paid for by us in the 3 thousand plus $ range . The contract fee would not change .even if they install the most basic of equipment .
We are not the least bit disappoint ed with the install or any part of cust sic. Or the way they have responded to accidental alerts .so buyer beware any door to door sales agreement can. Be cancelled within a 72 hour period ..Be schrewed in your deal making you can Get a much better deal. They obviously make their money on the monitoring scv . Sure if you allow any of these co. Take you to. The cleaners they will be glad to take you for all they can get ...we wouldn't' ever consider any other company.
The only thing I can say is make sure that you get from them a statement saying that they received you cancelation notice or they will claim that they lost it and force you to keep there inadequate service for another year. These people are ruthless and there only design is to rip you off! I would not enter into business with Apex Alarm and would council any person thinking about or who is already in a contract to carefully get out now or you will be sorry,
This company trains their sales people to go out and bold face lie. They have been known to present false crime reports of the neighborhood and lie about recent crimes in the area, including people getting held at gun point and murdered right "down the street." They send in clean cut Mormon boys who are trained in rhetoric from an early age as a tool to convert other to their religion, a skill perfect for sales. They use their manners, all the while assuring you that there is no contract and that you can cancel at any time. When you question them about the "60 months" as stated on the contract, he will gladly cross that out and write in "36 months" all the while assuring you that you are not signing a contract that will bind you to their company for 36 months. He assures you that you are just getting a great deal, locking in your price for that time and can cancel at any time. He may even cross out the clause that states that you have to notify them in writing 30 days prior to our contract expiration date or they will automatically extend your contract for another year. Beware, nothing that they say or do even matters after you sign that contract, because once you are locked in, you are locked in for at least three years, if not forever if you keep forgetting to send in a written request to cancel service. And even then, be wary, I'll bet they mysteriously never receive it.
APX is the same as APEX and goes by a few other names as well. They are professional con artists, who even steal from the people they use to go out and do their diry work for them. APX has a class action law suit against them from their OWN EMPLOYEES who never received compensation for all their dirty work. These theives steal from the hand that feeds them. They must be stopped.
If you are a consumer who was lied to, misled, manipulated, bullied, scared or any other tactic that they may have used to get you locked into their scam, please contact me or your local Chamber of Commerce, Better Business Bureau and especially the Attorney General of your state, but most importantly- write a letter to this guy, he has the power to file a class action law suit against them if he gets enough complaints... which I think he has already, so lets make our point a little more clear.

Glad to read comments, a young guy tried to sell me this alarm, because he had just sold it to my neighbor. I had a headache and told him I don't feel like talking about it right now I just got home from work, and he wanted to know if he could come back later. I looked at him and said I just told you no and no I don't want to talk about purchasing it later. Just give me your card. They came back several times and gave up. I am reluctant to purchase anything this expensive right off the bat. Thanks for all the comments, glad I didn't go this way.
I had a young man come to my door, because he said my neighbor had just purchased this security system. Well I told him that I had a headache, just got home from work, and don't want to listen to their stuff, and he asked if he could come back later. And I said No, I just told you my head hurts, and I don't want to think about anything right now, just give me your card and I will think about it. He came back the next day and my son told him I didn't want to talk to him and came back the next day and I didn't even open the door. People come to your house over and over again. I was reluctant to even purchase an alarm system, from a name I had never heard of, especially when it comes to spending a lot of money. Thanks for the forum, helped me to see the light.
My wife set off the alarm and left. The alarm sounded for over fifteen minutes but we never got a call from them. I called to cancel and was told I had to pay for three more years of service. I told them to sue me and canceled the auto payments. Then I found these three pages of complaints and a notice from another Apex Alarm company saying this Utah Company is fraudulent. About four years ago my husband and I RELUCTANTLY signed an agreement with what we were told was "ADT, " not an authorized reseller (he was the most persistent salesman I've ever met). In fact, while the salesman, also from UTAH, was at my home, I specifically asked whether or not he actually worked FOR ADT or was he an authorized reseller. He stated that he worked for ADT (blatant lie), and that we would get the system FREE in addition to TWO house remotes. When I asked if there were any other fees, he quickly darted around and finally disclosed that there was a $99 fee to install the new equipment in my house. The salesman assured us that we would get the state of the art equipment, and that if we signed up for auto-draft for the bills, that we would SAVE another 5 bucks a month, blah, blah, blah. We informed him that we did not have a house phone, and he said that it wasn't a big deal, because they have equipment that utilizes a cellular component for direct network communications (I already knew that there transmitters existed- read on). So, after confirming that it would cost us $39.99/mo minus $5, plus tax ONLY (I specifically asked about this), we payed the install fee and the installers arrived shortly thereafter. I should have known that this was not going well when the installers had issues with the equipment they were installing, but I just told myself to chill out and let them do their jobs. The system did finally work, and the crew moved on to their next unsuspecting victim. I knew that there was a cancellation fee, contract, etc. and I am not disputing that. In fact, my husband and myself were initially pleased with the system (for the first three weeks), and then the bill came. I was FURIOUS to find out that NOT ONLY did we NOT get the discounted rate promised, but it was almost $15 more, due to the fact that the cellular connection is an extra fee (I contested this with my paperwork and got a $5 refund per month that I overpaid, but it was a PITA). I am not disputing the taxes (read on), etc. but I was not happy with the manner in which this was handled, because about six months into the contract, WE RECEIVED A LETTER FROM "ADT" REPRESENTATIVE APEX DEMANDING THAT WE UPGRADE OUR EQUIPMENT IMMEDIATELY TO RETAIN OUR SERVICE- AT OUR COST! In the letter, it stated that we needed to upgrade the equipment, because the "state of the art equipment" that we had in our home HAD AN ANALOG, YES ANALOG, MODEM/RECEIVER. THEY, APEX, DELIBERATELY INSTALLED "FREE" OUTDATED EQUIPMENT IN OUR HOME. HOW DO I KNOW THAT THIS WAS DELIBERATE? BECAUSE THE U.S. CONGRESS AND FCC PASSED A CELLULAR COMMUNICATIONS ACT MORE THAN SEVEN YEARS AGO TO ELIMINATE THE USE OF ANALOG CELLULAR DATA SPECTRUM IN THE U.S. BY THE FIRST HALF OF 2006! I was furious. So, we let the letters continue to arrive and never responded; we never upgraded our equipment ($200+ dollars) and the six months ran out. Fast forward 1.5 years, and we get another letter, this time from ADT, promising a ZERO FEE REACTIVATION on our account- the ONLY fine print was that we sign another contract. So, I called The ADT, as in the actual company, to reactivate my account and was told that (A) we were not eligible for the free system/service because we had one in our house already (note: it was inactive for 3 years?!) and (B) surprise, surprise: the APEX people are NOT, are NOT ADT. In fact, the ADT rep on the phone was seriously irritated and seemed bothered by the news that I gave him regarding my previous experience with what we were told was "ADT." So, I asked if we put the account in another person's name (my father in law) could we take our system out, and then essentially be a new customer to qualify for the free system? The answer, of course, was "no, " and that we had to pay the $200+ dollars for the DIGITAL MODEM UPGRADE. Due to the fact that I had worked in the the cell/tech industry for several years, I knew well enough to ask why on earth we were given the crap "free" equipment in the first place, and the actual ADT rep got upset when I told him that we were scammed. If The ADT doesn't want this reaction, they should not allow APEX to sell their services, NOR represent their company in any form or fashion. We did not sign up, and we decided to go with a local alternative. Although it did cost more, we have the piece of mind that we do not have to give one dime to those crooks ever again.
WELL, here's the kicker... Are you ready for this? It's been almost a year since I spoke to THE ADT, and at least 3.5 since the service was cut off. Today, a salesman shows up at my door, trying to give us a FREE SECURITY SYSTEM FROM ADT! All we have to do is put the sign in the yard to advertise for "ADT." After my husband had about a 30 minute conversation with the guy about the last "free system" we received- bad equipment and all, the guy continued to be persistent, even though my husband asked him several questions that he did not want to answer about the real cost. So, my husband told him that we were not interested (after he dodged the questions), and the guy hands my husband his contact information. My husband looks at it and WHO does he really work for? You guessed it: APEX. My husband also asked him where he was from (we are in Kentucky), because his TELEPHONE AREA CODE was strange (and not THE ADT 1-800 number). What is his answer? You're catching on... from: UTAH! My husband marches up the stairs to tell me about the guy and my jaw dropped. I am sure that you can imagine his reaction when I told him that was the same company that gave us our last "free security system." I still have my old paperwork; good thing the sales guy already left.
