This company is the worst. Ordered rug, then realized it was the wrong rug. Tried to cancel order mere hours after placing order and I was told it was not possible due to it already being loaded on a truck (really ? That fast?). The company lists it has a "No risk 30 day return" policy, Their idea of "No Risk" is that YOU (the customer) pays for the return shipping AND YOU (the costumer) also pays a 15 percent restocking fee. Just exactly how is this considered "No Risk?"This is a large company with only one goal...to serve themselves. Stay away and stop supporting companies like this. They are destroying our economy.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I will supply more info later, but I am having a terrible experience with BuyAreaRugs.com Rug was misrepresented and they are stalling and giving excuses. Horrible company! Horrible, non existent customer service!
Update 6-3-15 The area rug I purchased for $290.70 was not the colored as described, purple. It also was defective and the Manager and rep were rude and didn’t follow with time table. Manager tried to bully me, also stated 6 sets of eyes had looked at the photos I emailed them of the area rug I received and THEY said it was purple. The area rug it is not ‘Purple’ as advertised or shown in the photos. Sent photos to BuyAreaRugs. The tag even says “Clay Grey”. They said they would contact the manufacturer. What? I am buying from them, not directly from the manufacturer. They didn’t respond in their emailed time frame 3 times. I had to call. The gal argued with me stating it didn’t matter what the ‘tag’ says, some colors have names that don’t represent the color (i.e. “stormy”, “Paris rain”). OK, true, but these sort of whimsical names do not have ‘color’ names, like Clay Grey, so more baloney. After phone conversation with manager, getting nowhere with other rep, I was asked by Don, the manager, if I had opened up (untied) the rolled up rug as Don felt the front side could look different than the back. I told him I had not opened it (although I could take the edge of the rug, still tied, and see an area of the front side). I currently have a jute area rug, the one I am looking to replace due to age, and I am very familiar with jute rugs and how both sides look. Having said that, I thought I would give it a try per Don’s suggestion. I did open it and it is the same on the front and the back. In opening the rug, I also found really bad defects in the rug which I emailed the photos. I am familiar with jute rugs, how they are made. I am a former art teacher and also have a degree in Design, so I am not uneducated about colors and jute rugs. Many times I asked for a prepaid postage return ticket which they adamantly refused to do. Then I found the same area rug for sale at Home depot and another online rug store….they call the color ‘Black”. The color is actually a grey nearly black with brown tones weaved in. Needless to say, I filed a bank dispute and won, hands down. Got my money back. Horrible company to deal with, defective product and not color as described or shown.
Bait and Switch! I purchased Adco New Zealand "wool & Silk" rug at their "BIG" 80% off sales after the holidays. Original value was supposed to be $6, 000 on sale at 80% off for a little over $1100. I got the rug and it was a US based NuLoom rug from New Jersey that Amazon carries for $795 (same 9x12 size) not even on sale. Ie the $6000 rug was a $795 rug. And a total bait and switch. When I called them to tell them they shipped me the wrong rug and that I saw the NuLoom that I was sent on AMazon for $795 I was told the Adco label was a private label of theirs and they do not promise to price match Amazon. I explained that I did not order a NuLoom and asked them to explain the supposed 80% off at which time the woman on the phone got belligerent.
They would not even pay for return shipping on an item I did in fact not order. I did get my money back but did go through Paypal so belie that may have helped. Awful company. I plan to report them to the Better Business Bureau.
I purchased a rug from BuyAreaRugs through HOUZZ. The rug manufacturer "tied off" the rug fiber ends with a Waxy/Sticky substance, consequently as we walked on the rug the dirt from our shoes stuck to the waxy/sticky substance. This took us a little while to figure out what was going on, we checked the opposite side of the rug and it is waxy/sticky as well. BuyAreaRugs told us "this is not a manufacturers defect", I say "the hell it isn't!". I would NEVER EVER deal with BuyAreaRugs again! I tried to post photos, but for some reason...it won't let me!
Similar experience as above comments. Arearugs is the WORST company to use if you are shopping for a rug!
1. They take your money immediately - regardless of ship date.
2. they do not cancel orders as requested.
3. They do not work with you on shipments.
4. They charge an exhorbitant amount for return shipping and require a 15% restocking fee.
5. Many complaints filed on BBB, but of course they are not a BBB company.
6. Customer service agents ignore your emails.
7. Working through Paypal so I expect i may have some help in this regard.
