This is awesome!
I’m so excited to learn more ASL, and I am! It’s a super cool app. The only problem, at least for me, is I think you have to buy some lessons. As a 17 year old student with no job or even a bank account (I’m to busy), buying lessons is almost impossible.
There’s no schools in my district that teach ASL so I don’t really have other places to go for free lessons. In order to pay this apps employees, a replacement for straight up paying for lessons could be doing ads for the more complex lessons. This would make learning ASL easier for everyone!
Engaging, fun and great for beginners
I recently starting learning ASL so I can understand my friend at school who is deaf and speaks in sign language. So far, this app has been really good at helping me practice and memorize signs without getting bored or frustrated. It’s like duolingo for ASL!
I just bought premium and I can say this app is still very helpful without premium, but with it and the ability to have access to more lessons, I have memorized and understood signs better.
Great app and I can’t wait to surprise my friend with signing “hi, how are you?” when I’m back from school break!
Amazing! But there is room for improvement!
I absolutely love this app. I took one college class for ASL and I mainly downloaded this app to practice and make sure I don’t forget what I learned and also to learn more vocabulary. I was really excited to see the Work Bank Search function! But I was a bit disappointed to find out there aren’t many signs available in the word bank :(. The idea is amazing and I hope they add more vocabulary soon! Also, I think it’s a shame that you have to pay for premium to be able to quiz yourself and use the flashcards, I think that’s something that should have been added in the free version.
Learning ASL
I have always wanted to learn ASL, but I had no idea where to start! Now, I use this ASL learning app and I LOVE IT! The app is very easy to use. You’re able to rewind each instructional video however many times you need to in order to comprehend the hand movements. And you can slow the instructional video down so you can watch the hand movements in a better way. The concepts are easy so far and I’m having fun learning a new language. I’m grateful that an app like this one exists in order to bridge the gap among us between the hearing impaired/deaf community and able-hearing individuals.
Awesome!
I know a little bit of sign language because my Aunt and younger brother are deaf, so the first few lessons I knew most of the stuff! It’s awesome because the first couple lessons are things you would use daily (I believe). I downloaded this app to help me learn more sign language because I’d like to communicate with people who sign, I used to work at McDonald’s and a few people would come in and sign “Thank you” when they were finished ordering and I’d sign “you’re welcome” back, but I always wished I could have a full conversation with someone who signed, so I’m hoping this app helps!
So far so good!
I have been thinking a lot about learning ASL due to being completely deaf in my left ear and at risk of possibly going deaf in my right. I was apprehensive since it'd make the reality that I could go completely deaf and not understand how to communicate if I didn't learn. But when I saw that my 9-month old nephew was being taught and UNDERSTANDING, it motivated me to try! So far, really nice layout and I love the way they teach you with repetition, deep explanation, and overall they're friendliness to those new to ASL! Highly recommend to beginners like me and to those who are really apprehensive on trying ASL.
Wow!
My son and I are both a bit hard of hearing. We started with learning baby sign language. But we didn’t have a lot of signs to work with or know anything about ASL grammar. A new little boy started at my son’s daycare who is deaf and I realized we really couldn’t communicate with him or his parent. So I found ASL Bloom! I even referred this app to my son’s daycare so that everyone can communicate with the new family. It’s AMAZING! It’s very, very easy to learn. And I’ve found my son and I retaining the material and using it very successfully. I just got this app a few weeks ago and it’s already made a huge difference!
great app
i’ve been using this app for a few days now and it’s life changing. learning asl is just like learning a new language (for example: Spanish, Japanese, and Russian) it’s just as important as the listed languages. as a 11 year old myself, i’ve never been so excited to learn a language. plus, it’s VERY easy to learn and i encourage everyone to give asl a try. no complaints so far.
without any purchases made on the app, it still teaches me quality asl even if i do pay extra money. it’s not a stupid scam where they do nothing until you do a monthly payment. that’s why i love this app so much! please remember, if i can learn it… so can you!
Grateful
As a hearing person who has dove in head first into ASL 10+ years ago I’m grateful there is finally an app where the hearing world can join the Deaf Community one lesson at a time.
If this app had existed 10 years ago my time as an interpreting student would have probably been a bit different.
To the creators of this app and the lovely people teaching on this app Thank you.
I cannot speak for the Deaf community, but on behalf of a person who LOVES the Deaf community thank you for the opportunities this app will present.
I must say as someone who has learned and continues to learn this app is quite accurate and helpful.
Kudos Bloom!
Couldn’t be better!
I used to work in customer service and would occasionally have HOH or deaf customers, and I knew a little bit a sign to be able to ask what they needed, or to say thank you, that simple type of stuff, but never to really enough to have a conversation with the person and it always made me feel so guilty. I think ASL should be taught in schools but until we get to that point this app is incredible, it reminds me a lot of Duolingo, super easy to use and has clear representations of whats being signed. I very much have been enjoying it and I’ve been sharing it with my friends and family who also want to learn ASL.
I just want to also add, I love the fact that the instructors are deaf or HOH!
Won't Let Me Sign In
I'm brand new to this app. I downloaded it on my iphone and then the next morning downloaded it on my ipad. However, when I tried to log in on my ipad, the app would not recognize the code that was sent to me. It keeps saying something went wrong. So, I logged out on my phone thinking it could only be on 1 thing at a time. Still can't log in on my ipad. I did log in again on my iphone, so what gives? I thought I could use this on my phone and ipad. I went to the app to contact support, but clicking on support it told me to download the mail app. So, I'm in the store giving a review hoping to find out the answer as to why I can't seem to log in on my ipad? I hope you can help me with this.
AWESOME!
I am hearing, and I go to a grocery store where there is a deaf cashier. I have always felt so bad that I can’t talk to her or just simply say thank you. This made me think of how many other deaf people must struggle so much in trying to talk to anyone. So I decided I should learn sign language. I looked everywhere I could for the perfect app and this was the perfect one. You can control how fast they go, I especially love it when they have the text conversations with videos. That helps me the most. I have learned so much! It has only been two days with this app, and I can have a long conversation without struggling with the nice cashier. It was fun to see her face light up when she saw me speaking sign language.
Room for improvement
Okay here’s my two cents on this app.
Great for beginners with no previous knowledge of sign language. They cover pretty basic education in sign language and the deaf community.
However as a person who has been signing for nearly 2 years I already had a great grasp on the signs provided in the free education so this really is just nice for review. Continually with the free education it really should just gauge what you know and cover lessons you might not understand. I get the app may be new and purchasing a plan may improve the experience however as a college student I don’t have money to drop like that.
Overall good app, just not for people who are experienced in the language already if you don’t have money to spend
Not for limited time learning
I’m studying sign language for school, and I have been looking for an app and didn’t think I could find one. The videos were helpful and the lessons were well developed. This app was helpful for maybe the first two lessons and then it started glitching. The entire app shut down numerous times and caused me to go back a few questions on a lesson. This wouldn’t be too aggravating, except the fact it happens every two questions when you get to the ending of a lesson. It wasted so much time. Not to mention, if you are intending on learning how to have conversations, you have to pay and I understand charging, but the prices for premium are ridiculously high, I’m not paying to take a physical class, I’m downloading an app to help me learn sign language for my sign class. It was very inconvenient.
Great App
I’ve been using this app for a little over a week now and have progressed to the subscription chapters. I’m impressed! It teaches in simple yet effective videos, quizzes, and matching. I especially like the flashcard section to practice signs already covered without redoing the teachings! Too bad this is only a premium option. This means that once you’ve gone through all the lessons and don’t need to continue to subscribe you’ll lose access to all the flash cards you paid for previously.
It’s not a cheap app, unfortunately, which will limit some on purchasing the subscription. Also, it’s a bummer that it doesn’t support family sharing so the kids can learn under their own account without having to purchase multiple subscriptions. I just can’t afford that. They’ll have to use my account even tho it will be inconvenient to keep up with who is at what lesson. But for the price, no way will I pay for multiple subscriptions just over a convenience.
Overall its a good app, subscription service could be tweaked so that certain things, like the flashcards, could be lifetime access. That tweak might make it a great app. So I’ll use it and subscribe for a bit but it won’t be a long term app I’ll stick with.
Best ASL app I’ve found
This is the best ASL app I’ve found so far.
It’s really easy to follow along with, with different ways they show teach you the signs. You can also slow down the speed of the videos and replay them during the lesson which helps a lot. It doesn’t say to thus far, but definitely recommend signing along with them as you go. There are quizzes and a place to search for specific signs as well.
Now, because people always want to know and I definitely have my thoughts: The Cost.
From glancing at the paywall, it seems there are 3 stages you can do for free before you need to pay for premium. Which is a bummer, because that’s the other ones are as well. I will say that this one is cheaper at ~$8 a month if you pay annually and ~$15 if you pay quarterly (no monthly option.)
But I still can’t afford another subscription service no matter how much I want to learn ASL. I would love to have the first unit free/ad free to try out and see that I like it.
(which I do and so do so many others!)
And then would rather opt for & deal with ads in between each lesson in a unit, or however.
Then the premium could be an upgrade option instead- offering perks of no ads, and other perks similar to what Duolingo does. I think that’s why Duolingo is as successful as it is. There are people who can and will pay for the premium and the ads will still be supportive in some capacity.
This is why I rank 4/5 stars, there is the potential for this app to be the ASL - Duolingo (since they never cared to add it) if it is able to properly support those can’t afford subscriptions.
Another thing that would help it grow would be adding a social dynamic so people can boost each other, maybe in the competitive way, maybe not. But that becomes an incentive for some people to buy subscriptions/microtransactions. More of a long term goal I think, but would be a definite thing to consider. Along with family subscription plans since many families tend learn ASL together.

It was fine until
It was great for the first couple lessons and then when I finished the alphabet the only way to succeed onto the next lesson, is if u pay a monthly fee! I wasn’t planning on paying $9 to learn asl online.
It’s not as interactive as I would like, I also believe it only gives one way I have learned ASL and I know there are many words in here they
It’s not as interactive as I would like, I also believe it only gives one way I have learned ASL and I know there are many words in here they only will teach you one way and sometimes it’s not even the right signs
I don’t like it
Well the app is very expensive and goes forward to quick and it doesn’t help me when I need help on something. And when I first started the app the movements went so fast and expect me to catch on that quick so I don’t like this app in my opinion

Doesn’t really work
It was good but on my first lessons the videos of the sign langue wouldn’t start so I couldn’t do anything! It would load after sitting there for 5 mins but sometimes it would never load. Would have been a good app but the videos won’t play so I can’t see what the signs are! Please fix this! ☹️
Cant log in
The app was ok but I accidentally deleted it. It logged me out and I tried to get back logged in and it said “We’re sending you a 4 digit code please type it here to continue.” I looked in my email folder but there was no code. (I looked in my spam too) if anyone knows how to get the code, tell me.
Great potential- costly premium - no family sharing
You get the first couple of lessons free. However, the practice and flash cards are all premium. It’s quite a pricey app. There is no option for family sharing so my kids can’t learn on their own account. I’m sad because I was hoping this would be a good app to help us all learn asl. Will just have to keep looking I guess.
Was great until the subscription change
I used to love this app, it was the only good quality ASL app that was mostly free. I completed the 3 beginners lessons and I am halfway through every other lesson. Today I went into the app to refresh my ASL and all the lessons I already started are behind a pay wall. I can’t afford to pay a subscription, that’s why I was using this app in the first place.
Don’t like
I got this app to help me with ASL because i am interested in signing. However i cannot learn anything because the videos never play for me no matter what i do. I’ve tried clicking the video and deleting the app to redownload it. It is very expensive and it started me off with a Premium member ship even tho i had never said i wanted one. I don’t recommend this app.
Good. Until you have to get premium
I was really enjoying the app but I sadly can not continue because I don’t want to but premium

Crashing constantly
This app would be amazing if I was able to get a one lesson complete without it force closing every 2 seconds.

Good app, not enough
I loved this app. For 2 days. I went through everything, but I expected more. I’m not paying $100 a year for this. Sorry.

It’s ok?
Goes way to fast for a beginner and some things that they do are wrong,my grandma is professional at ASL and some of things were wrong

Glitches
This app started out okay, but after the first lesson the app kept glitching and exiting out. I’ve tried to refresh it but it didn’t help.

Content Locks Don’t Waste Your Time
You are going along learning signs, and boom suddenly your content is locked and they want $$.
There are better apps out there that don’t put up a wall.

Deceptive ad
App was presented as free but as with most apps there is a fee for anything beyond basic. I’m sure it would be helpful to those who need to learn and don’t want to go to an actual class.

Crashes every 30 seconds
I'm currently in an area where there are a lot of people so maybe its a cell service issue, but this app is unusable! It crashes every third question i answer! Then i have to go back into the app and go back to the lesson. It's soooo irritating

This is wrong
I’m an ASL interpreting major at USF and I’ve completed three lessons on this app now. I’ve seen multiple signs signed wrong, structure is in English not ASL which is funny considering how ASL is it’s completely own language. Would not recommend using this to learn the correct way.

Super Confused
So I have been in love with learning ASL. And found this app VIA social media. I made an account, went about my day. And later try to log in, I get the access code sent to my email, I input the code, and it says wrong pin entered. I tried this MULTIPLE times and it still doesn’t work. I’m not writing this review to knock the app down, I just want to know if this is problem that can be fixed or if it really is just a bad app?
