$14.95 unsolicited charge
I signed up for Blair Rewards under the impression it was a promotion offering discounts to regular, loyal customers. Instead I find a charge to me for "Blair Rewards" along with a membership card on the back of a magazine. And now, apparently from "out of the blue" I find a charge of $14.95. For what?. Someone seems to be taking advantage of some persons' naivte or gullibility.

false tracking numbers, billed for items not received
Placed order December 2008. Three days after the order was placed, I received an email with tracking numbers. After the tracking numbers failed, I tried to call several times but the system says "due to high call volume, we are unable to take your call at this time, please try your call again later". The system hangs up on you after the message. I have submitted inquiries through the Blair email service. On February 2, 2009, I received an email from Blair apologizing for the delay. The email claims the product was shipped. No new tracking numbers have been provided. Today, I received my Blair Credit Card Bill and it lists the transaction date of my December 2008 order as 1/16/2009. The Blair branded card is offered by World Financial Bank and they claim that they cannot void the charge without confirmation from customer service. I have tried to call Blair Customer Service once every hour today and I receive the same message about "high call volume" and the system hangs up. I have ordered from Blair several times over the past 5 years. I can only conclude that the company is going out of business or has already shut the doors. I will write the Attorney General's office next.

unfair business practices
Where do I begin to list all of the poor customer service practices of Blair? I submitted an order online for 2 items on Dec. 4, 2008. Paid full shipping fees. I called them on Dec. 18th because I needed the items before Christmas. Their phone service will generally not let you stay on hold if they are busy, so you have to waste time redialing their number before you can get through (around 30 minutes each time you call). Then you wait on hold for 15 minutes or more when you finally do enter their phone system. Finally, I got to a service agent who was unable to tell me whether the items had shipped or when they might arrive. I asked to cancel the order since I needed to rush out and buy replacement Christmas gifts at that late date ( in the middle of all the last minute Christmas crowds) to assure that I had presents for 2 very dear relatives. They told me that they couldn't cancel the order because it MIGHT have already shipped. They said that if it hadn't already shipped, they were trying to get expedited shipping on the late packages, but their system wouldn't show what the status was for another day or two. So, what was I to do? Finally, the package arrived on Dec. 23rd. One of the items was very flimsy and the other item was a completely different item than I had ordered and I could not use it. I had to brave the day before Christmas shopping mob when I had many other things to do. So, I called Blair again and asked how to return the item (again taking 45 minutes to get through their phone system). They agreed to remove the shipping charge and not to charge me return shipping. They did remove the original shipping charge from my credit card. I was told to use their "Smart Label" to return the wrong item. I did as directed and took the package to the post office, where I was told that their label did not have sufficient information to be mailed! So, I had to go home, search online for a new "Smart Label" to print with my printer and ink. I taped it to the package, drove back to the post office and mailed the package on Jan 7, 2009. Here we are on Feb. 3rd, 2009 with no credit on my credit card yet. I checked the online package tracking, which indicates that they received the package at their return center on Jan. 22nd. So, I called them again-- taking 30 minutes to get through-- and inquired about when I will receive my credit. I was told that they are installing a new system and I would have to wait yet another couple of weeks for my credit! In a nutshell, I will never buy from this company again. Shop at your own risk!

fraud
Placed order on Rockport shoes on 01-13-2009. It was on back order until 01-28-2009 and then cancelled on 01-23-2009. Checked today(01-24-2009) the same shoe is available on their website. Blair's scam is to try to trick you into signing their promotion and start charging you membership fees. Do not fall for their trick! I'd never buy from Blair.

Backordered items are a pain. I have ordered from Blair for years. Most of the time my stuff comes on time and they are really good with returns and exchanges. Backorders are often the fault of the factory that makes the crap they sell. I don't know what goes on over there at "ye olde sweat shop" but they must make a deal to send so many dozens of a certain item, yet never promise when the items will be made. I have a bedspread on backorder right now, it has been two months and the date still keeps getting moved so many days ahead. I used to work in the garment industry, so I'm a bit more patient. I figure that maybe the machine that makes the fabric broke down, probably 100 years old, and has to have parts custom made. So they get the parts and install them but because they mess around with the old wiring while putting the parts in, the thing catches fire when they turn it on...so they get someone to come and fix the wiring but he says he has to rewire the whole thing, and on it goes. I once ordered two pair of pants from Blair that were backordered, after waiting months they finally said they were sorry but they couldn't fill my order. I can only imagine what happened at the factory, fire, flood, earthquake, but Blair refunded my money.
charges
During check out there is a pop-up offering a coupon on future purchases at Blair. When you click on the coupon and enter e-mail address, you accepted membership and charges in Blair Rewards and billing of $14.95 per month on your Visa card (they already have number because you made a purchase) Then if you call Blair customer service about the charge they say they can't help you because it is an outside vendor. They say you must call a toll free # (when you call you'll find they only operate during normal business hours...when most of us are at work) This amounts to selling your Visa # to a company you don't know and have not agreed to do business with, and don't have a reasonable opportunity to accept or decline. You can back button all day but once you click the coupon you're caught.I had to call Visa and even then it only applied to future charges (because I accepted the terms by putting in my e-mail address (thinking I'd get a coup[on) ADVICE DON"T BUY FROM BLAIR!

Blair customer service is the worst I have encountered with a catalog company. I will never order from them again, or recommend them to friends.
I ordered from Blair one skirt which I regret horribly. It was the wrong size so I sent it back with the return label they provided. Once they received the skirt back they debited my account again for the skirt, and also 9.99 to send it back with the label they provided. Since the pending debits always get credited first I had a debit of 29.99 charged to my account and it was several days till I received the credit. They then told me since I had problems with the skirt being the incorrect size they would credit me the 9.99 which they did but 2 weeks later they debited my account for 20.00 again. I called the bank and the bank advised me to cancel my debit card out as they now had my debit card number. I attempted to contact them it took 15 minutes to get a customer service person to talk to, but when i did she was way out of it. I asked to talk to a supervisor, according to her the supervisor told her to take my number and he would call me back which never happened. She would not give me her name or the supervisors name she told me to send/mail them my bank statement and they would look into it. I asked for a fax number she gave me the fax number but failed to give me the correct area code. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS PLACE..MY 29.99 skirt has now cost me 49.99..
I had the same problem. When I called to complain and cancel, they complied, but I had no idea I had joined this. I will never shop there again!
contacting and service
I placed a large order for christmas on 12/05/08. I received a partial order on 12/24/08 and the remainder after Christmas. When I finally received my completed order I was charged for the same shirt twice and also charged shipping although the catalog stipulated FREE SHIPPING on all orders. I have been trying to resolve my charges for over a week at all...
Read full review of Blair.com and 5 commentsfraudulent business practices
As a first-time customer of Blair.com, I would like to warn anyone who is considering doing business with this company of its fraudulent business practices including:
1. Blair.com advertises products as available on their website and does not tell you the item is on back order until the items delivery due date has expired. Then Blair.com fraudulently refuses to cancel your order, saying your item is “in shipping” only to tell you later that it is again on back-order.
2. Blair.com routinely restricts customer complaints by preventing calls to their customer service via the only contact number on their website: [protected]. If you call this number it will always tell you: “We are currently experiencing unusually high call volume and are unable to handle your call at this time. Please try your call again later.” This message has gone on for two months now! Call it and see for yourself.
On 11/28/08 I purchased items as Christmas gifts. The shipping policy on the Blair.com website clearly states: “In-stock merchandise typically arrives in 7-10 business days with standard delivery.” After 3 weeks of not receiving my items, I tried to contact Blair.com at the number on their website listed above. This is when I first encountered the message ““We are currently experiencing unusually high call volume and are unable to handle your call at this time. Please try your call again later.” After trying to contact them by phone for a week, I completed the Contact Us form on their website. It took 5 days to get an email back from someone at the company who said the item would be shipped in the next few days. By that time, it would be too late to receive the items before Christmas. So, I sent an email back requesting that they cancel my order. Here’s the response I received:
“Thank you for contacting Blair.
Unfortunately we are unable to cancel your order as requested because it is in the shipping to be shipped. We experienced some shipping delays but are working diligently to get orders out as quickly as possible.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Sincerely,
Jan
Blair Customer Service

Five days later I received the following email from [protected]@blairshop.com
We value your business... that's why we're sending this message to make sure you're up-to-date on the progress of your order. The current status of each item is listed below. Any recent changes are highlighted in red. Your online order was submitted: 11/28/08
ITEM 1 Back Order 12/13/08
ITEM 2 Back Order 12/13/08
ITEM 3 Back Order 12/13/08”
After receiving this email I sent a second request by email to cancel my order, but never got a response. I tried once again to contact the company at the customer service phone # provided but just kept getting the same phone message to tray back later.
After two more weeks of failed attempts to cancel my order I contacted my credit card company. Luckily, they were able to reverse the charges made to my credit card by Blair.com
Here’s my advice: DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY
If it’s too late and you’re reading this because you are in a similar predicament, try contacting your credit card company and getting the charges reversed. Then, if your items ever do get shipped to you, refuse delivery. If the items are delivered when your not home just return them to the Post Office, UPS or whoever delivered them – and GOOD LUCK!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
In the past I have had good luck with Blair. However; my most recent order is encountering problems. Fortunately, the problem is my credit card company will not authorize the charge based on the information Blair has. I have tried contacting them for four days by both phone and e-mail with the same results as the above complaints.
When calling you always hear “We are currently experiencing unusually high call volume and are unable to handle your call at this time. Please try your call again later.” No option is given for leaving a message as most businesses do. They do not respond to e-mail as their site claims they try to respond within 24 hours. Four days later, I have no response.
I fear the company is on its way to bankruptcy so advise anyone not to do business with them.
I am currently in the same situation over products of value >$100, they have not arrived after over 2 weeks so i tried calling but 'all lines are in use' so i sent an email and am awaiting reply. DONT BUY FROM BLAIR IT IS A FRAUD.
cannot find out about order
Placed an order on 12/14/08 and 4 days later received a letter to call them. Tried calling and getting through to their hold dept. 8 different times and could not get through. The number on their web site [protected], I have never been able to get through on. Here it is 3 weeks later and I still haven't been able to straighten out my order. This company has got to have the worst customer service I have ever experienced and I'm just wondering if they're going bankrupt?

I ordered two items from Blair that I didn't like the quality of or fit so I contacted the company regarding a $9.99 return shipping fee and questioned Why I should have to pay $10 for something I Didn't keep ! They still deducted the fee from my refund, so I'm finished with Blair and it's other holdings!
my problem is I paid my bill in full but am billed for 12.98. I can not speak to anyone to get this resolved. I want to cancel my credit card and I can't even talk to someone about canceling the credit card. I have enjoyed my clothing from Blair but I am very upset about the fact that Blair is unreachable.
Blair customer service is the worst I have encountered with a catalog company. I will never order from them again, or recommend them to friends.
unreliable company - rip off
I ordered Christmas gifts on December 2nd. Whenever I tried to call them, I got a "were too busy message - call back" I tried e-mailing. No answer. Finally I e-mailed that I wanted the order cancelled. After that I received an e-mail stating it would be shipped the first week of January - which was totally unacceptable. (Another order I placed later, that I didn't even need for Christmas was shipped in a few days.) Now, after I once again said I wanted the original order cancelled, I receive a notice that it is now shipped. Either they hire people who can't read and obviously can't write (since they refused to answer my e-mails) and can't even answer the phone.
I have ordered several things in the past - but NEVER AGAIN!
I am now waiting to see if it shows up in the mail. I don't really know what to do, because as stupid as they apparently are- I would probably never get a credit on my account and I would have to pay shipping to send it back. WHEN THIS COMPANY GOES OUT OF BUSINESS I WILL CELEBRATE!

Blair customer service is the worst I have encountered with a catalog company. I will never order from them again, or recommend them to friends.
customer service matches quality
Both very poor.
Order took over two weeks before it was even shipped. Quality of shirt and shoes was awful. Shirt has collar that felt like paper. Shoes were incorrectly sized and nowhere close to fitting. And when I called Customer Service I got a recorded message telling me they were too busy to take my call. Then just got disconnected. No "please leave a message." Just "Goodbye, " click. This went on for hours on several occasions. My prediction is that if they keep selling shoddy merchandise, pretty soon they won't be too busy. They won't have any customers.

I ordered a shirt for my husband and it arrived fine and was of nice quality. Some people will just ### about anything. It is a cheap item, what do you expect.
I TOO ORDERED MDSE INDEC.'08. I RECEIVED THE MDSE. BUT HAD TO RETURN 2 SHIRTS FOR A DIFFERENT SIZE. I RETURNED IT DEC., 12, 08. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED MY REPLACEMENT ORDER, ALTHOUGH THEY TELL ME IT WAS RECEIVED BY THEM. I WANT MY MDSE OR REFUND IMMEDIATELY!.
In November I sent an order to blair.I included a check for the full amount $117.74. I recieved the order it was all incorrect. Ireturned the mdse. They sent me a check for $17.00 which was the differance between what I ordered, and the mdse they shipped. When I called about the order they shipped the order over, STILL INCORRECT but this time they charged it on my credit card, Now the credit card is billing my. I have arready paid with the check they have never refunded. To make a long story short I have been charged almost $200.00 dollars for mdse priced $less then $100.00 I have paid shipping twice, Made five phone calls and still as of Jan.24th we are still no further along then we were on the first call. you cannot depend on anything they tell you
shipping delays/phone problems
We received a mailer for cash giveaway by this company. We are returning customers of this company so we placed order through the mail. We checked our account online and determined that the order was received on 12/01/2008. We began calling on 12/11/2008 to check on when the shipment would take place on the order. We were told that the order had been sent to the shipping dept. We checked the progress of the order online and the comment "in process" as the only comment. We again called the company on 12/15/2008 and received an automated message that said that due to the number of phone calls they were unable to take my call at that time and to call back later (Probably all the rest of the poor folks who won't be getting their planned Christmas gifts). This went on for 3 days. Finally I went online and got one of their regular business phone numbers and my call was answered immediately. I was told the order was in the shipping dept. and there would be no way to track it because of the 1000's of orders they had received. I was also told they would not be able to guarantee Christmas delivery. Get REAL! The shipment is sitting in the shipping dept. for over a week and they don't know when they will be able to get it sent out! To your CEO - in a time when companies are going under you would do well to invest your money into modern technology and more people to get you through your busiest times. Bad service + Bad Attitude = Blair Company going under!

bad business when shipping & giving refunds to long standing customers
I am informing you that blair is overcharging people on orders for shipping, backorders, and returns. I placed an order where 2 reg. Priced t-shirts that were $12.99 each. They sent me one & said the other was on back order. I also had a full order & they were to send the *original* w/free shipping. A week later the second t-shirt arrived at the reg...

Took almost a year to get the correct champagne earring, and I wasn't given any credit for all the aggravation. I can't believe I fell for this twice! Yes, I wanted a discount off my next order. I truly believed it was through blair's website. Once again, I get the dollar + charge on my bank account but the 2nd time, I got the $14.95 hit.
This was just on tv recently. The "savings" scam programs were claiming that the consumer is totally redirected to another site and all your personal info has to be re-inputted and you go through a long series of questions. Wrong! I sure didn't go through that to get scammed. It was quite easy; as simple as saying yes, I want a discount.
So blair and any other company that allows these scam popups - no more business from me.

I to am getting fed-ex email from the same outfit. Whats more surprising is that after all these complaints, there is NOTHING being done what-so-ever. blair@e.blair.com Again there is nothing being done and this is a waste of time. Guess this site was created to vent
I guess companies no longer care what kind of garbage they send to your e-mail. After reporting blair@e.com to Microsoft, to Hotmail, Outlook mail, unsubscribed many times and followed direction on how to rid ourselves of this obscene e-mail coming to both our junk mail and to our regular e-mail under the name of other companies, but really from this company blair@e.com still keeps coming. Yes we did block this but it always comes from another company listed first, then blair@e.com. My next step is to report this to the Attorney General Office and perhaps the FTC to see who else I can report this to. This all started when we "looked into the catalog section" of Blair company to see what they had in their catalog. we never attempted to order anything, nor did we order. Our e-mail is only used for e-mail back and forth to family, and we hardly ever go into tons of searching all over websites. This is a shame it is a struggle to rid yourself of filth coming into our e-mail. We have never heard or seen such filthy language and suggestions of what people want to do to you and photos to top it off. What has this world come to?
I see I am not the only one having problems with Blair. We are receiving obscene e-mail, graphic, suggestive, gross e-mail from blair@e.blair.com. We have contacted Microsoft, Outlook and Hotmail to stop this. We are still getting this, we also have written to the security systems we have, which we have 2. We never ordered from this company, but did look on line at products they had. Some of the products were affiliated with "hsn.com". Who would think there would be a problem from "hsn"? How do I stop this mail from coming into our e-mail? We are afraid to open any of the mail up and "unsubscribe" for fear of what we would see and invite more of the same. September 2, 2018.
Unapproved charges on credit cards!
I think that Blair's return dept SUCKS you wait forever to get a return done and then it also takes forever. To TALK to someone! This will be my LAST order. I'm sick of the bullsh t. Thank you Christine Moore. Rochester NY! 14626
I'm still waiting for my exchange to come! It should take no longer than a week!
On 9-30-08, I ordered on line the Heather Knit Twinset, order # [protected] for 19.99. On 10-10-08 I returned it. I asked for the money to be kept with Blair for future purchases. Instead it was returnd and the credit appeared on my American Express account. I followed your instructions regarding return mail and had no problem. I used the code YVK for free shipping. On 9-30-08, a charge of 7.99 appeared on my American Express statement. Will you please credit my account. Thank you, Jame C. Moore
My account is #[protected]. On 9/30/08, I ordered on line knit twinset for 19.99, order #[protected]. I returned it on 10/10/08. I wanted that amount left with Blair for future purchases. However, they credited instead to my American Express account. I use the YVK for free delivery. In returning the item, I followd your instructions and had no problem. On 10/30/08, a charge of $7.99 appeard on my American Express account for shipping. Is this the usual procedure, in view of fact that shipping is feee?
I got scammed as well by Blair.com. Such unethical company should not get any business from anybody.
It took me almost a year to get the correct Champgne pierced earrings.
Than I was a fool to order the Saphiare set. It never came but I was billed. Then you have spend time to get thru the menu phone line and then you have to wait at least 10 minutes more to talk to someone that is never sure how to handle the problem. Then to top it off I received the necklace that I didn't order and it took me 2 more calls just to get a return label. And now I am billed to the necklace which I called the number on the bill and advised I was returning the item and I requested my credit now for the bill and the late charge. Since Customer Service claimed they could not notify the credit department of the pending return. I worked for Customer Service for a furniture manufacturing company and if I would have treated customers like this I would have been fired. I think you customer service department needs to have better training and You should not have to wait on hold for more than 3-4 minutes without being offered a call back in a timely manner.
I want to be removed from all your mailing materials.

charges to credit card
Avoid dealing with this company! In april, I ordered over $100 of merchandise and had to return $65 dollars worth due to poor fit/quality. This was purchased with free shipping. On may 7, blair charged return shipping (Their competitor didn't) , but did not credit my charge card for the returned merchandise! End result, I have a bill on my credit card for $65 for merchandise I returned. Blair has not responded to my written request for a credit.
The day after I requested the easy saver be canceled, blair charged my credit card and will not remove it.
This company needs to be removed from the internet as a vendor.

How does Blair justify charging an extra $8.99 U.S. delivery fee on top of the standard shipping fees?
This seems illegal!
So very doubtful I will be ordering any longer.
I ordered a jacket from Blair.com. Apparently somewhere in their website is an agreement to sign up for Easy Saver for $1.95 a month charged to my credit card. I am still trying to get this charge removed after two phone calls. The woman I spoke with was very rude. What a scam.
outrageous interest
It takes 19 days for blair clothing to post a payment on your account therefore they charge a late fee. Big ripoff. I sent payment in which was due on 19th of month on the 14th. It took until the 28th of the month to be posted. This is the third time this has happened. All of my other bills are received and posted no later than 6 days. I tried to contact customer service to no avail. I have tried several times and keep getting referred to city bank who puts you on hold for an eternity. I felt the best thing to do was to pay it off and tear up card.

I closed my account in March 2008 when they turned me down for cli. It took me three months to get them to put it on my credit report. I had to call and dispute it.
Now I have gotten two letters from them about the reason for not getting the cli. The first letter was dated 10/16/2008 The latest letter is dated 11/14/08. They keep referring to my credit as bad. How could I ask for cli when my account has been closed since March? I do believe Blair needs a different bank.
They keep referring to my REQUEST and my poor performance with them. It's been since March. HELLO!
I have same issue as others, $14.95 charge, called 3 times and they removed it. That was my only balance and when I didn't pay it the Comminity Bank rep. called me and said I was 2 months late with my payment. I argued with her on the phone and she demanded my bank acct. info. to get a payment that minute, I refused. I paid it the next day to avoid any issue until it was resolved, but they turned it over to the credit bureau. I wrote a letter as well as called & still no resolution after 2 weeks. This is a scam and bad for Blair. I canceled my acct. (15 years) & still no response.
Well, I've learned my lesson! I don't check my credit card charges very well, but I have found charges of $14.95/month for about 9 months for their "Rewards Program." I have ordered a few things for my Mother and have never signed anything or gotten anything free from them. I tried to call their customer service number and they gave me the same # as the writer above but got a recording since they were closed. I will try next week. What a rip off! I can't believe they are still getting away with doing this to their customers. I surely won't be buying anything else from them.
I got ripped off too.
Thanks for the details about Encore Marketing.
I shall try to get them to refund my charges.
Plus I am mailing consumerist.com, a consumer watchdog website, about all that had happened.
I hope they will be able to help me get my money back.
The same thing happened to me. I don't know how, but I was enrolled in something called "Blair Rewards." Today I called Encore Marketing at [protected], the company that runs this scam and spoke to someone named Diane. She was very friendly and helpful and honored my request to be disenrolled from Blair Rewards and also said she would refund all charges. This will teach me to check my credit card more often! Diane told me that I have been enrolled in this thing since September of 2008! I don't see the refund yet, but I just called today so will give it some time to post. I could not get Blair on the phone (due to their message that they have an unusually hight volume of calls), but I did e-mail their customer service center about this as well las night and they responded to the e-mail today. Here is what they said:
Dear Ms. Monroe
Thank you for contacting us.
By signing and returning the acceptance card for the free item offered, you enrolled in a continuous marketing program. This authorized us to send periodic shipments of merchandise to you and bill your Blair Credit Card account. If you did not return the customer service card that accompanied the free item asking us to cancel you from the program, the merchandise continues to be sent every one to two months.
If you would like to removed from the program, please let us know.
We apologize for any misunderstanding.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth C.

The strange thing is that I never received any free item with or without a customer service card, so had no chance to tell them I wanted to disenroll. I do not recall signing an acceptance card either, but I do remember taking a survey on the Blair site that offered some amount off toward my next purchase and turned out to be horrendously long, and I think Blair Rewards might be tied in with that somehow. My lesson from this is to never, never, do online surveys!
