overcharged insurance
We have a BECU autoloan that we kept after bankruptcy. We received a letter that we were far behind. When I called I found out that our payments were over $200 more than what we had always paid. They said they added insurance. We had insurance the whole time, but it wasn't the insurance they wanted, so we changed it as soon as we found out. They have charged us insurance from February until August, when we provided our proof of insurance with the extended up coverage. They will not remove the $1500 of extra charges. They said they mailed us letters that came back. We sent them an address change with our payment, but they said that is not acceptable and we had to call. We assumed they had our new address since we did not hear from them. I asked why they did not call, but they said they did not have our number which is strange because they called my husband about a month ago and got our new address from him by the phone. He didn't mention increased charges at that time. Besides that, our number has not ever changed in the 5+ years I have lived in Seattle, well before we got the loan. They said there is nothing they can do and that they will add the additional to our payments, and we have no choice, but we don't have the extra, especially for something we did not know about until yesterday. Their attempts to contact us were weak at best and in my opinion non-existent. Don't know what else to do, but they are really taking advantage of people during this crazy economy. They charged $2300 for a year of insurance when I got the extended coverage for $80 per month. They are just taking advantage of people because they don't care. Customer service does not exist there. repossession of account funds
My father passed away with quite a few debts and very little assets. His estate was insolvent and under Washington State estate laws, you can file for probate and what is left of the estate liabilities is given in the order of precendence 1) estate administration (filing fees, attorney fees, etc.) 2) funeral expenses 3) medical expenses of last illnesses...and so forth. Debts is ranks 5th. When I called to cancel my father's social security benefits, they in turn called BECU to freeze his accounts. My father had some outstanding loans and credit card debts with BECU. Upon receiving notification from the Social Security Administration, BECU not only froze his accounts, but they took every penny of money he had in his checkings and savings account. BECU did not even wait till I could file probate to allocate his funds appropriately. My father didn' t have much left, but BECU didn't even care. Even upon showing his death certificate they wouldn't even give me his final statement or the exact amount of what they took. They were so callous to me during this ordeal. I even went to a lawyer, who said that with the administrative costs (plus her fees) would end up leaving me with not much and that it would be easier to walk away. It's a sad realization that they did that - regardless if my father didn't have very much, his little savings would have at least helped me pay for his funeral.

The exact thing happened to me today My brother passed away. I followed the law and waited the 40 days. The intention was to pay the burial fee and last know medical expenses. They took every penny and could care less. I watched that money closely knowing we needed for his burial. As the supervisor said "sorry for your loss" in the same breath wanted to know what we were going to do about the mortgage. Well duh! You just took all his money. I will never bank with them. I don't know how they can sleep at night.
BECU is not a credit union but a corporation union They are not responsive to members needs just their own bottom line. How horrible to treat the death of a member so callously. Shame on them transfer your accounts to a real CU! Run from BE screw you
taking money out of account without authorisation
I used my checking account to pay my call loan through BECU.org because it was convenient.I realised money had deposited for my car loan had been taken. On calling the BECU the call center supervisor said the bank had the legal right to withdraw any amount from my checking account because a joint account holder owes them.Note : I'm the primary account holder and have never owed them anything. My check to the loan payment went through and I'm expecting overdraft fees from them. How is that fair that an account that has no link to me is used as a reason to steal money from my checking account, without the courtesy of a call or letter saying why?

I typed a meaningful response with pathos and humor, accidentally hit the back button and it went away -- the message went away, not the pathos and humor. I'll make it short this time.
When you opened the savings/checking account you likely got the New Accounts booklet. Whoever has the loan got the Loan Agremeents & Discclosures booklet. Both say pretty clear that the credit union can withdraw funds from a deposit account to make a loan payment. If its not available in the account that was designated when the loan originated, it can be withdrawn from another deposit account where the person owing on the loan is named.
Likely, you don't want the grief and irritation, so I would suggest you open your own account with your name only and then leave the one who has the loan to deal with the current deposit account.
commercial checking account
On line bill paying is not an option for commercial checking accounts with BECU despite the claims of their website and their staff at their local Financial Centers. They won't tell you about this limitation until you try to set up this feature on-line and get kicked back to their Service Dept.

deliberately reporting incorrect information on credit report
I filed for chapter 13 bankruptcy in August. However, I paid off all my loans with BECU to make sure they did not lose any money in the bankruptcy. The bankruptcy was filed to help out after a job loss and to get our mortgages caught up. Juanita at BECU [protected] informed me that if I paid the credit card off by the end of the month, it would be reported as "paid as agreed" on my credit report. However, they lied. Not only did I pay the card off in full, but they reported the debt as part of the bankruptcy. My credit score fell 60 points (the BK wasn't on the credit report yet). The credit report says the account was not paid as agreed. I asked BECU to correct this, but they told me it was their right to report it the way they are. This statement came from Melinda in their bankruptcy department. Her number is [protected]. This credit union is filled with a bunch of liars and thieves. Stay away. Stay far away. I tried to make sure they didn't lose any money and they just don't care.

Hi !
You might want to speak with a attorney who specializes consumer ligation ( Ie Mortgage credit fraud) Sounds like you might have violations of the FCRA and FDCPA with them. Appears BECU is slandering your credit
car reposession
BECU tacked on 14, 000 in retro active insurance for a car that was garaged and I had insurance on. They claim I didn't and raised my balance and payments to 2000.00 a month. I was a mortgage broker that was barely able to pay the 1200 but had done so for 3 years. Once they raised it to first 1600 then to 2000/month I couldn't do anything and I was forced to give the car back that was in my mothers name. Now they are trying to sue her and she is so sad. I made those payments for over 3 years that equals the original amount I borrowed and they sold a 100, 000 car for 15, 000 at auction I don't think this was commercially resonable. My mother won't talk to me and all I want to do is help or set up a payment plan or something this stupid car has turned my life upside down. I got it when I was 24 and had my head up my butt and now all I want to do is help my mom she retires in one year she is a postal worker and she is so stressed I am very worried for her safety.
BECU HAS RUINED ME I WAS ABLE TO MAKE PAYMENTS UNTIL THEY DOUBLED MY PRICE. I"M A MORTGAGEBROKER AND MY INDUSTRY FELL APART. I FEEL LIKE DYING...

(continued from above at 'garage', my bad.)
insurance, did you check with BECU to see if it met their standards? There's a lot of small outfits that specialize in "inactive vehicle insurance' plans. Usually there's no problem, stored boats, parked RVs, deployed troops stored cars, no problemo. These "little guys" do just fine with stuff that's up to about $50K. After that, their own reserves start to look shaky. Sound like this may be true? .
I'm having a *very*hard*time* understanding why anyone NEEDS a $100K car.
I'll agree, BECU isn't playing fair with you.
But IMHO; you set yourself up for this. If the time-line you gave is correct, the economy was already going sour. You were in a position to know a hell of a lot more than the rest of us. Why did you get tied into a known moneypit like a $100, 000 car is ehhhhh...
(agreed, collector cars (is yours?) *have* been a good positive investment in the past, but that went sour too. Check out the big-name "collector car auctions" like Christies. Final (if they even sold) sales prices were 30-90% down. and then the bad buys killed those off by about half...)
I can't shed any tears your way.
As for the garage

The above complaint is almost exactly like ours! Be aware of doing a auto loan with these people! They are shady and will do whatever they have to (even lie) to get their money! I did NOT have a automatic loan through These people and they still went into a account that was my husbands (a business account) and took money for my loan! When asked if they could reverse with a promise to pay on my account a few days later... they basically told me to [censored] off and any account was fair game! My husband is closing his business account with them as I’m writing this and will never do business with them again! Shady and not loooking out for you at all!
