On today January 6 2022 at approx 1328 hrs I went to the Shell Convenience store in Yellowknife, NT. I was stopping to purchase two items a monster energy drink and a pack of Mike and Ikes. The items were scanned and the total came to $8.90 which was more then the 6 dollars of cash I had in hand which seemed odd but I paid for the items with my credit card and asked for the receipt which the clerk was reluctant to provide. Upon reviewing the receipt I was charged 5 dollars of lottery tickets 4x1 dollar and 1 more at another dollar. I said you didn't charge me for the candy item but you did for the energy drink. I said if it is easier I will take the five lottery tickets and you can keep the candy item, she expressed that since the item didn't scan she just used lottery for the purchase I said well the candy item was only 2.89 which she could see from the cash register. I again said due to the line up you could give me the lottery tickets and keep the candy item, I don't need to cause a hold up for a refund. She expressed she couldn't do that even though that was what I was charged for and instead then said she would give me a loonie and to leave because with taxes the refund would only be a dollar. I didn't want to hold up the line up but 2.89 plus 5% tax is of only.14 cents is not a one dollar refund but closer to 2. This is the second time I have been overcharged by this service station for simple items and they are obviously charging items at their discretion and I wouldn't be surprised they are doing this often until customer ask for a receipt. I will not be purchasing from this store again and will post on social media this concerns and see if other customers are experiencing this level of service and outright overcharging and theft. I am also a law enforcement officer and will report this petty crime as a potential trend here in Yellowknife. I would appreciate a response to this and follow up with the staff that worked this day and time. The clerk knew what she was doing and was definitely something she has done before and with ease.
