awful bank
We were recently looking over our capital one credit card statement and came across what cap-one calls 'payment protection', along with it came a charge for $18.15, which looking into we found they charge 1% of your total balance. We went into investigating this, first, we called the number listed along side the charge on our statement. We first spoke to a capitol one representative who said we need to speak with the people at Payment Protection, who apparently is it's own entity outside of Capital One. We spoke with a representative at PPI who apologize for being unknowingly sold the product on behalf of Capital One, we ask the representative how long I've been being charged the Payment Protection Plan and she said it had been since November of 2007! We were blown away, we had never noticed this charge but we didn't expect it to be there in the first place, so we fought with the representative at PPI and after getting forwarded through 4 stages of management we finally got someone who agreed to refund us $100 and that was the maximum they would refund. We appreciated that since the responsibility should be placed on Capital One's shoulder for unknowingly charging for me a product. Our next step was to go back to Capital One to reclaim the remaining charges owed to us, which we feel is in the neighborhood of $235 BEFORE interest. After speaking at length with two representatives we were forwarded to the 'dispute department', and after speaking at length with three stages of representatives and 'managers', one decided to tell me they WOULD NOT refund the money and continued to try to send us back to the Payment Protection Company, which we would not allow them to do. After a heated conversation in which he refused to send us to someone higher or cooperate with us he decided to hang-up! A Capital One representative fraudulently sold us this product for a profit and a commission I'm sure and it is NOT the the fault of the people at the Payment Protection Company since they only provide a product for Capital One the sell and make a profit from, therefore it is Capital One's responsibility to refund us back the remaining balance of what we've been charged.
We've done a lot of research on this and it seems we are not alone, the search engines turned up hundreds of similar cases where Capital has either unknowingly sold or outright mis-sold this product to consumers and refused to take responsibility or properly service it's customers. We've managed to cancel the 'Payment Protection Plan' and as soon as the balances on these cards are paid we intend to cut all ties with Capital One and in the mean time we intend to do as much damage to Capital One's reputation as possible, it sounds like the $135 Capital One stole from me is more important than them retaining me as a customer.
I feel more people need to know about this and should warned about dealing with a company like Capital One who takes advantage of it's customers and then refuses to offer any type of customer services when it comes to handling disputes. Anything the BBB can do to arbitrate this matter we would sincerely appreciate since the last thing Capital One did for us was hang up the phone on us.
Since the amount charges for the Payment Protection Plan is based on 1% of our total balance there is no way to calculate exactly what should be refunded to us. We estimate AT LEAST $235 PLUS INTERESTED paid on the plan has been charges to us, we aren't looking to pursue the interest paid be we feel $235 is the right number, the Payment Protection Plan company has already refunded us $100 of the money, so the remaining $135 is Cap One's responsibility.

capital one customer service is terrible
I had to travel to the UK for work last year and Capital One froze my credit card after making a purchase there, based on the potential for fraud. I called them (a $20/min call), waited on hold for 20 mins, and told them to unfreeze it b/c I had no other source of money w/o the credit card. They said that I have to call them any time I leave the country or this would happen again. They also said that they would reactivate the card, and they did not. I was stuck in another country for 4 days w/o any source of money, so I had to use a friend’s credit card. Needless to say, when I got back, I canceled the card.
Then, a year later, a service that I use still had the Capital One card on file and charged it. I got a bill from Capital One and called them up. I wanted to know why the charge was not denied since I had canceled this card a year previously. They claimed that it was not canceled when I called 1 year ago. They of course had no explanation for this, and so I made it abundantly clear that I wanted the card canceled now. In the process of expressing how this was inexcusable, the representative hung up on me.
I would be very careful that Capital One actually cancels your credit card when you instruct them to. Apparently, there is recollection of events or anyone held responsible for this at these banks, even though they claim to record the conversations. I will never use Capital One again.

Terrible customer service. I have personal and business accounts with Capital One. Every few months, I have to call in because I cant access my online accounts. Three attempted log ins and you are blocked. I tried entering forgot password. I am asked for my name, birth date, and account info. The system verifies me and takes me to the same log in page that I could log in to in the first place. On the phone, I give them all my information and they transfer me to another department "who can better assist" me. Then I speak to this department and they tell me to hold so they can transfer me back to that department. Then they try to High Verify me, but their VOIP technology is so cheap the line crackles while you try to enter in your password. Then you can use that system again (only 1 try allowed). They say they can send me a one time code to my phone numbers on file, but they then say they cant send the code to those numbers. This happens every 2 to 3 month. Capital One is CHEAP. They dont invest in CUSTOMER SERVICE or a proper web portal to log in. I bank with 12 banks around the world and only capital one has these problems. CRAP BANK.
capital one checking account practice
My husband and I have been with Capital One while it was still Hibernia Bank. It has become the most wretched bank we have had the misfortune of dealing with. Our checks go in as direct deposit every month and has for the past "umpteen" years. Recently our account went down to $0.00 and because we were NOT overdrawn they shut down our account without any notification to us whatsoever. Unknowing that this had happened, my husbands paycheck was sent to them. They said they sent it back. Because we get paid monthly and my husbands employer will only pay on a month to month basis we may be looking at having no funds until next month. We have children, bills, rent to pay etc. We talked to a Capital One branch in Dallas but since we opened the account in a different town they made us contact the other branch. Upon contacting them, they said they still had our check and to go deposit some money at any Capital One branch and they would deposit our check. The other branch worked toward a resolution but could get no cooperation from the branch here in Dallas. They would not even so much as make a phone call to the other branch to verify that the check was still in the possesion of Capital One. On another occassion, we were low on funds. My father was moving to another state to be cared for by his sister and was leaving right before Christmas. I had a small paycheck that I needed to cash so that I could buy him a gift and see him before he left. We went to cash it at a different branch here in Dallas. We were not overdrawn on our account but it was very low. They refused to cash my check and instead took it for a deposit saying that they could not cash it because the check was more than what we had in the account. I went to see my father and made my apologies for not being able to get him a gift. It turned out to be the last time I ever saw him. He passed away 2 months later. I realize that Capitol One was not responsible for our being low of funds. Well guess what? My family and I were not responsible for all of the banks running out of money either, yet when they came with their hands out looking for money we were ALL FORCED to help them. At LEAST the other branch in the other town was trying. The sorry terds here in Dallas care about NO-ONE least of all their costumers.

Capital one charged me a $35.00 ISF fee. I was given incorrect information so I went to close my account. My account is closed and they said they mailed a check which I never received for my account balance. 20 days later and several calls on hold for 20+ minutes I still do not have the fund that were in MY BANK ACCOUNT!
On the 21st of Nov. 2017, I deposited a check in the amount of $10, 000.00 into Capital One Bank. I was told that, the deposit machine could not read the magnet numbers on my check and since my check was from Fidelity, there would be no problems. I logged into my checking account on the 11/25/2017, to try and make payments only to find my account in the negative status. I called customer service, and after a lengthy hold on the phone, i was told there was no such transaction. I immediately drove to the bank to find out what happened to my check.
I was told by the Capital One Bank branch manager, that the check is supposed to be at their back office, but that office said they did not have the check. She agreed with me that there was a deposit done on that day, but the deposit slip was left in their office and they did not know what happened to the check. She said they were going to investigate, but to my dissatisfaction, she did not make anything official, it was her word against mine. I then insisted that she should at least give me something in writing to show i lodged a complaint, she said there was nothing she could do, what she could do was to give me customer service number to call, to make the complaint. It was then that my husband called non emergency line for the police to come. We wanted to file a complaint but the police said he could not do anything since it was not a criminal case.
The manager then had to call another department to ask them what she should do, after we insisted that we wanted our money or some definitive answers. They asked her to make vector (their own terminology) complaint. At the bank we happen to call the payee to try and put a stop on the check, but we were told, the check had been cleared, by Capital One Bank on 11/22/2017. As at now capital one bank is not giving us any definitive answers, all they are doing is to charge us overdraft fees.
The Capital One Bank representatives, are so insensitive and do not care, all they tell us is that they are investigating. They do not care about our bills which are pass due now, or how inconvenient this situation is costing us. We are surprised that such an amount of check will be missing for 5 days in such a big institution, and how were they able balance their sheet for that business day? Amazingly the bank did not even have the slightest idea about the missing check until we called to question them about the deposit.
Approximately in 2017 which is 6 years ago I had a checking acccount with this bank and I closed it as they charged me every day nsf check charges and did not notify me by letter or any other way in a due diligence timeframe. I was so irritated I vowed I would never do business with that bank. They are now saying 6 years later in Nov 2017 I had a safety deposit box which was free and if I did I never got keys or gave them back and they say my contract does not state I returned keys as I did not sign! I did not like the manager and he is no longer there. Now 6 years later I get a bill for the box! I never used it andit was supposed to be free according to an assistant manager June and I briefly talked to Dee Hammond new manager who said she would investiga the issue! 6 years and no bill! I stated anyone can sign a statement and if I even had keys they were returned and the manager obviously did not do his job! Perhaps I never got keys. I know there is nothing in the box as I made sure everything was closed out when I left that bank over 6 years ago and vowed I would never do business with them
Capital One Bank needs to be pressured with Imminent (BK) Threats or Mediation Law and Procedures.
They are basically a giant collection agency. They purchase the distressed mortgage at Extreme Discounts from various key players in the sub-prime arena. They collect aggressively on this paper. They do not play by the rules and need to be pressed hard.
We have completed successful loan restructuring cases with Capital One Bank. They are all long run and brutal battles.

I make deposits at the local ATM and just happened to look at the balance. Twice now ( that I know of) I have seen there is a $100. discrepency...My new balance is one hundred dollars less ! Honestly, I never even checked this out before, assuming an ATM could not make such a mistake, but there it is in black and white. In addition to this, I keep getting letters saying they are holding part of the funds when I make a deposit and will MY money to me in segments ( WTF?!?!?) It appears that these are random amounts. A man I know lost his brother and many friends gave the family money to help with funeral expenses. Turns out his check to the funeral home bounced, and about 4000. of checks he received were 'no good'. He is checking to see if the friends banked at Capital One and had their funds "held", just as mine are. I feel like this bank is doing the same thing to everyone, that the amount of complaints is worth the money they make on these 'overdraft bank fees' and 'held funds'.
I am closing my account with them and taking my business and my money elsewhere. I am tired of standing in line behind a bunch of customers complaining about the same thing, and having the customer service reps nodding in agreement that it is a screwed up new company that bought out Chevy Chase Bank.
Capital One Bank arbitrarily raised my fixed interest rate from 6.99% to 15.9% despite the fact that all payments were made on time in the amount due.
They claim that a letter was sent offering me the option to decline the increase. I am absolutely positive I did not receive any letter because I was carefully reading every correspondance from any credit card companies.
If I had received a notice of any kind from Capital One, I would have responded immediately.
This Bank is participating in unfair business practices and should be punished.
All I have to say is that they are an impossible company to deal with. I have tried over and over to have some type of normal business relationship with these monkeys to no avail. They have mislead me, some representatives are outright rude, and frankly think they are being smart by making things difficult, but they are actually slowing the economy down by tarnishing people's scores sue to their bizarre business practices. I have never seen a more inefficient organization in my life and will never deal with them again no matter what! EVER EVER EVER EVER AGAIN!
A number of years ago I set up an automatic debit to my credit card account [protected] for on-line services to WSJ / Barrons. The monthly charge was $11.99. Earlier this year I canceled the service and WSJ confirmed that they cancelled the automatic debit. The description for the monthly debit was LIBREDIGITALAUSTINTX (note that it changed to this in December but previously it had a reference of Barrons). After a couple of phone calls, Capital One reversed all of the charges since I canceled the service on January 26 but they refused to provide me with any information on the merchant LIBREDIGITAL. I think that they should take some action against this merchant for erroneously charging my account. I am suspect at their lack of concern and inaction in this matter.
Suttell & Associates have violated the FDCPA on many counts in trying to sue me. One is that they are saying they are Capital One Bank when they are a debt collecting law firm. The debt they are trying to collect was charged off 2017, and they filed in 2017 as Capital One vs..., it is my understanding that legally they can not be both creditor and assigned the debt. Also, there were false payments posted for on credit report for 2017 and 2017 to keep debt active. S & A looked into my credit report without permissible reason. Also, S & A would not furnish more than a few statements with a high ballance, no beginning or end statements, claiming the Customer Agreement lets them collect with that, no need to explain. They never posted dispute on credit report. Also, supplied questionable affidavit from a Capital One employee to verify debt, but could not be contacted..even by S & A at an Arbitration.
I had a Capital Credit Card for many, many years. After several years, I joined their Protection Plan in case anything should happen. After being a longtime member of both Capital One and their Protection Plan, the Company that I was working for over 27yrs. (DEMACO) relocated to Melbourne, Florida. This was back in 1999.
At the same time, I was diagnosed with Parkinson Disease. So, being that I was unable to work because of the relocation and being diagnosed with Parkinson Disease, I called Capital One to let them know my situation and
and to get info on the Protection Plan so that I could see if they could work with me on my inability to make payments and to find out about the procedure on filing a claim. Well, lo and behold, I was told that I wasn't covered because I had a pre-existing disease and that the reason for my not relocating was NOT COVERED!
I was flabbergasted! I told them, well, according to the Agreement, I was told that if, in the future, I would be out pf a job, or an illness would develop, I WAS COVERED! I told them that at the time of the Agreement with them, I had a very good job and in great health. Plus, I was a member of Capital One and their Protection Plan, many, many years before I was out of a job or had Parkinsons. I told them, also, I'm not trying to reap you off! I want the services (coverage) that were promised to me. I made my payments every month to you, guys, through CAPITAL ONE'S STATEMENT, for many years, and now, you're telling me THAT I HA VE NO SUCH COVERAGE? THEN, WHY DID YOU MAKE SURE, YOU TOOK MY MONEY EVERY MONTH, FOR SUCH A COVERAGE?
I was given some MUMBO JUMBO about pre-existing disease and the same for the relocation of the job! I made several calls to them for a while, but in the long run, I never, ever heard from them. So, I put the Capital One Credit Account theough a Debt Consolidation Group, recently, and the Agreement was CANCELLED AND THEY KEPT ME MONEY!
I heard of some "CLASS ACTION SUIT" against CAPITAL ONE and their PROTECTION PLAN, concerning situationsd like mine. I hope that you can help me out because I live on a fixed income (SSI DISABILITY) because of Parkinsons and I could use some OF MY MONEY, WHICH THEY KEPT!
Sincerely,
Carmen Cambian

recent capital one solicitation cases
We are a group of students in Rockville, MD, who are currently working on Capital One’s deceptive and misleading actions towards its future customers.
We are looking for people who within last year had issues with Capital One.
Those issues include:
a. being solicited by Capital One with preapproved credit cards;
b. unawareness of enrollment in “Payment Protection Plan”;
c. unawareness of the true credit limits, origination fees, and late & over the limit fees;
This is purely educational project.

Thank you for your interest.

These theives are finally taking me to court, where I plan to counter-sue
I too am having trouble with Capital One's deceptive credit practices, mostly the protection plan and interest hikes... please e-mail me at "ww_arabians_brenda@yahoo.com" with your address to discuss
charged 14% interest on bt, instead of 0%
The short story is:
When I was transferring a balance to Capital One credit card, I was told that I was going to get 0% APR on the transferred amount (and on purchases) for 12 months.
From the very first month, they charged me 14.37% on the balance transfer. Now they tell me I was never offered a 0% rate on balance transfers
Long Story:
I got an offer for Capital One credit card on the mail, with 0% introductory rates for balance transfers and purchases for 12 months.
After I got the card, I confirmed that I actually received the introductory rate of 0% and transfered around $19, 000 from one of my old credit cards to the new Capital One credit card
From the very first statement, I was charged 14.37% interest on the balance, which came to more than $200 per month.
There is no reason for them to change the higher interest rate, as I had not/have not defaulted on the card, not violated any terms in the contract. I have auto-pay setup to more than cover the minimum payment.
I made the blunder of not reviewing the monthly bills carefully until 5 months later, as I trusted the autopay to work not requiring any intervention from me. It did not help that I chose to have electronic delivery of statements. I remember checking the first or the second bill quickly, making sure the autopay amount appeared on the bill, obviously not bothering to check the rest of the details.
When I realized in Nov 2008 what I was paying I right away sent a message through their web-site asking for an explanation, as I contemplated paying the entire balance, as I did not have good feelings about the bank. I sent 3 messages over a period of 2 weeks, none of which were answered.
Then I called them, only to be told by the representative and his manager that I never had a 0% balance transfer deal! I told them that that's not what I was told when I received the card and also when doing the transfer, but they simply didn't listen to me or cared. They just said their records don't show the 0% rate, so their unstated position was I was obviously lying.
I fought, for a while, but it seemed to be a losing battle. Then I told them that I had the documents that came with the card stating I did have 0% rate, and they asked me to send it over.
It's crazy that I have to go through this, but I will send them the documents and recoup every penny they don't deserve. To stop the bleeding, I paid the entire account balance.
However, unfortunately, I have been away from the country since Oct 2008, with all my stuff in two storage places in NY and NJ. I am not sure when I will be back. Hoping it will be the end of Feb, but not too sure.
I have a fair filing mechanism, so I think I will be able to locate the docs that came with the card, but in case I can't, Capital One will have shamelessly rob me of $1000+ with total impunity.
I read on their web site that complaints need to be made in WRITING within 60 days of the date on which a statement is issued. I am way past that date for quite a number of months. So I don't know what I can recover from this outright robbery.
I don't know what it is about Capital One...perhaps their pervasive ad campaign...made me think they are in the top tier of credit card companies. As far as I am concerned, no matter what their market position, they are at the bottom of my list. I should say off my list. No business ever from me and my family with Capital One. I have had times I was desperate for money, but I never robbed anyone.
Yes, I don't think this is a mistake on their part. Even if it is, the nature of the mistake and their response (or lack of it) is not excusable. I would have given them the benefit of doubt, if the error would have been on my favor.
If you are a bank issuing millions of credit cards, keeping track of billions of transactions, and then can't remember what rate I was promised a few months ago...well that's a level of total incompetence or fraud I will not tolerate. I have dealt with multiple banks for 2 decades and I don't remember a discrepancy of this kind, or lack of concern over it, ever in my dealings with them...except for one time almost 20 years ago. So Capital one, in my world, you are two of the worst and I see enough idiocy and treachery around that I don't want to deal with you.
Let me repeat: no Capital One product/services for me and my family, ever. And Capital One shouldn't be thrilled about the "word-of-mouth" coming out of my mouth either.

auto financing
I purchased a car in September of 07 making monthly payments on time and sometimes early. On September 2008, I totaled the vehicle, since then Capital One has given me nothing but hell. On the day of total loss capital one said that my payoff balance was 16, 000 dollars and some change. My insurance company paid off $13000, My maintence plan was reimbursed, and my Gap was supposed to cover the rest. But to my surprise capital one still says I owe them $1397.61. This is crazy. This company has given me nothing but hell since I lost my truck. Someone needs to really stick it to them. In todays economy who has $1400 dollars just laying around not me. And to top it all of, this case was supposed to closed in october, So why am I just getting a letter dated 12/05/08 with 10 days to pay. No phone call saying that I owed them anything. I feel that I have been hoodwinked and bamboozeled. They need to be stop.
harassment
I have had my phone number for 4+ years. From the beginning of that time I have been getting harassing phone calls from Capital One auto at the number of [protected] & 3533. There are other 800#'s too from them. As I write this I just got 2 calls within 45 mins. from them. They are looking for a woman named Jennifer Lutz. I do not know a Jennifer Lutz and have never had any contact with her whatsoever. I have told Capital One to please not call me, that I am not that woman, we don't know her and stop calling. They refuse to believe me and sometimes say things like "oh, right, your not Jennifer huh? Just pay your bills". I have had it with them. I've called them back numerous times only to get someone else who doesn't believe me but said they'd take the number out. They didn't. I have emailed their headquarters etc. with no response and I have sent them a letter in the mail telling them to stop calling me. They refuse. I told them to just goggle my phone number and they can see its not this Jennifer person. Obviously they do not care. I am very upset by this b/c my husband and I have excellent credit and we do not deserve this harassment from them. We have never nor would we ever now have any account or anything whatsoever to do with Capital One. Yes, I could just not answer the phone but I also have an infant and other children here and it's a huge bother to have the phone ringing all the time. Plus, its my phone and I am not wrong.
I googled Capital One and found that I am not the only person who has been harassed by them incorrectly. There has to be somewhere for people like us to turn for help. I do not want to change my number b/c I have a home business and it is very inconvenient for me to do that and also unfair to me as a good citizen who pays her bills on time and has excellent credit.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I too am getting calls from Capital One, and have never in the past, not will I in the future, be a customer. Do they think I have control over a relative's business. How did they get my WORK cell phone number? First they would ask for the relative, now when I say hello, they hang up! When I called they said my number would be remooved in 2-3 business days. Not acceptible in my opinion. The manager I then asked to talk to could not do any better. When I told him I thought this was harrassment, he disagreed and said it was more like UNETHICAL! This from an employee! What's in your wallet? Hope it's not a Capital One card...spread the work to your relatives as well. If they miss a payment, they will let it be know to everyone in your family, cause they'll be calling anyone and everyone they can find!
Months after closing an account because Capital One refused to deal with a fraudulent item and being assured the account was closed and paid in full, I am still getting letters and phone calls. I have made it clear my account is closed.
Phone calls come at all times of the day and all days (Sundays too) of the week. They have threatened to mare my credit rating. I have responded in writing and made it abundantly clear I will not pay for a fraudulent charge.
Give that the original charge was under $100 and that they have spent much more than that in time to harass me and lost a good customer (I typically charged $1, 000 or more per month on the CO card), I’d say they have a flawed business model.
I have had a Capital One Card since 1999 and usually if not always paid my bills in full every month. Here in San Diego County we had a fire and many including my self had to be evacuated for several days. Some how, I misplaced or did not receive my credit card bill and did not pay it on time. The following Month I paid the full amount due and an abusive late charge. That was not the end, recently I made a large purchase thinking I would pay it off over time at the 8% or 9% rate I had with Capital One but found my rate had been adjusted to 27.15%, I also have a blemish on my credit report. I did call them and they offered to reduce the rate to 12% but I still find that abusive. If my company did business the way Capital One does, we would not be in business long.
Capital One No hassle Miles Card changed the terms of their earnings reward program with little communication. They halved the earnings previously earned for cash rewards rather than on a go forward basis that resulted in lost cash earnings.
I was with Capitalone for A long time. I never was late on payments, I never paid half a bill. My bills ranged from, $280.00/down..I paid in full. Someone from capitalone made an error, and cancelled my account. When I discovered, I could not access my card, I called. They said, "once the account has been cancelled, It cannot be re-opened. I have to file another application. They owe me, $32.00 and some change. And said I must wait two months for my refund. I asked three agents for their corporate number. They said they don't have a corporate number! 7202 N. auto finance is the worst thing that could happen to you
My complaint is sort of complicated. I financed my car through a small bank that was based here in New York State. I figured that since the bank was smaller, I would be less likely to run into the hassles that come with dealing with a giant bank. North Fork Bank was its name and I had no problems with any late payments or getting answers.
Capital One Bank acquires North Fork earlier this year, and you guessed it...nothing but problems now. My payments are mysteriously late three times within this calendar year. I have never even been late on a car payment since I took my first car loan in 1997. Maybe the Postal Service has found a way to screen out only my one car payment that goes to Capital One and they are trying to ruin my credit. That must be it!
Now, I just get done speaking with someone from Capital One and they have no idea if there were any problems with the merger. They also seem mystified when I asked them if there were other customers experiencing the same problem.
This is the exact reason why I have never done business willingly with Capital One before. I have never heard one positive review of them, and have had only problems when I have been forced to deal with them.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Unfortunately, your situation is not uncommon. Things seem to always fall through the cracks with the complexity of the data and process integration that comes with large-scale mergers like this one. Capital One Auto Finance is one of the largest auto finance companies out there but if you are not satisfied you should consider refinancing your auto loan with another financial institution. Unlike home loan refinancing, refinancing your auto loan can be a fast and simple process that you can do entirely online. Do a Google search for 'auto refinancing' and you'll see a number of companies who can help you with that. Good luck.
terrible experience
I hope I read all these reports before I applied or Capital One Auto Loan...
Here's the Story...
3 weeks ago I traded in my rare car for a newer car... long story short, I had a preapproved loan with the amount on the blank check provided. After 1 1/2 weeks Porsche dealer called me that the check from Capital One had bounced. I have the preapproval document and check. I called capital one and told me that they need my income docs, so I said ok, i faxed it to them, then a week later all of a sudden they cant do a loan for me, and refuses to say why. I have a good credit score and high income.
So now, the car that I traded is sold, I'm stuck with a car that the trade in value is $10, 000 less than what I owe plus taxes, the good thing is the dealer is on my side, and wanted to call Capital One and they said they will have them buy the car for giving me a bogus approval or else, Porsche vs. Capital One.
I hope they get what they deserve, after reading all the comments here, I called my attorney as well, we are giving them until Friday to make it right, after that. all hell breaks loose. suckers!

Yip! Incompetent to say the least or I hope that is what is is VS just being crooks. I just purchased a slightly used 2018 GMC . We put 5000. down and was given 17K for my truck. We really did not care who we were financed with since we would be sending in 20K to pay it off within a month. We sent the check to Capitol one and they said they cant find it, meanwhile they are charging us daily per/diem. Thankfully the check was not cashed and we stop paid it. I have been on the phone daily with these people from India who cannot understand anything you ask them. I am sending another check and if it goes sideways I am going to contact the atty general for assistance with potentially a class action suite for the bad business practices and potential fraud
I also had a bad experience. They are crooks, they make believe that you are pre-approved, and they even send and email to you confirming the approval. Then I notice that on the approval contract they type the wrong name of the cosigner, they used your first name as both cosigner and primary. Then they ask you to call them, and when you call them, they say that you filled out the application wrong and that they need you to fax your cosigner social security. I fax it, and call them, they confirmed receiving fax, but told me the application was still under review. The I thought, why is going to be under review if they pre-approved it? After reading all the reviews on this site, I decided to call again to cancel my application, enter my reference number on the phone, and to my surprise the had my application in status" we can not continue your application". Then when I spoke to customer service, I just told them I was calling to cancel my application, and it is like they already expected my call, like they know this happens all the time, mislead customers telling them that they are pre-approved just to see how they can screw-you them up. Thanks God, this was a refinance, I am still good with present lender. I told them about all the bad reviews they have, and they are like they don't care. Watch out, be careful.
Gosh after reading all these complaints I don't know if I should even bother with them and just go thur the dealerships financing . I have also been pre approved for 23.00 for a car. But I will only be financing about 8.500 wonder if they will give me a hard time. I have a credit card with them never been late. My credit is not all that good right now due to the fact lots of medical bills due to a illness when I had no health insurance. I knew this was to easy to good to be true.
Wow! I wish I would have found all of these complaints before Capital One took us for a ride too! We were approved for up to $21, 600 on a used auto loan. We submitted all of the necessary information and I was told that the initial application was submitted incorrectly, so I needed to shred the 1st blank check I received and fill out a new application correctly. I was hesitant, but went ahead and did what they said. I called to check the status and they said that I had filled the application out incorrectly and needed to fill out a 3rd one. After getting off the phone, I called back to find out exactly how they wanted me to fill it out so that there were no more hang ups, because we already had a car on hold for us, just pending the check. After reviewing, the representative said that she saw nothing wrong with the application and she would make sure it was processed. After submitting my DL and our bank statements, the only other document we needed to send it was my husband's DL. Since our fax was down and they no longer gave me the option of scanning/uploading it, we had to send that in the next day. I called to make sure everything else was in order and the lady told me that they had received everything that they needed and that once his ID was sent it, it could be finalized. I told her we had a car on hold and asked if there was even a small chance that the loan could be denied after we had made it this far because we didn't want to leave the salesman hanging because he had been so helpful thus far. She said "oh no ma'am, I've never heard of that happening! The only change that might happen is that you may end up approved for more money" Since we only needed $13, 000 and were approved for $21, 600, I wasn't concerned. After faxing the final document, we put a rush review on it. I called 2 separate times to verify that everything was where it needed to be and was assured both times that everything was good. I was told once it's completed, I would get an email letting me know. I waited all afternoon -- no phone calls and no emails, so I checked the status online and it said "After carefully reviewing your information, we are unable to approve your application at this time. We will mail you a letter within 7-10 business days that explains the reason for our decision." and basically not to call because no one will be able to tell me any reason as to why. I was so frustrated, angry and disappointed -- now, I'm just shocked at what common practice this apparently is for them. Shame on them for being so deceptive and stringing people along -- thank goodness we didn't go ahead and take the car in good faith, like the salesman had offered!
I'm in the same situation. I have an auto loan through them I got a couple years back, so I naturally decided to apply through then again this time around. I was approved and sent the check. I went last week and got the car, but then today, a week later, I'm told that they are not honoring the check. WHAT?! I've had the car a week already, my credit is even better than it was the last loan, and I've never been late. I've been a Capital One customer for years, but I'm closing all my account tomorrow ( I know it wont actually affect them, but I can't consciously stay with a business with such shady practices!
I applied for an auto finance loan on a Friday. I was approved right away, they showed me the terms and APR rate and everything. I received my blank check and loan terms in the mail on Tuesday. I went to the dealer and picked out a car and then when I contacted capital one with questions to make sure I fill out the check correctly I'm told I am in fact no longer approved! "Please shred the check" and that was the end of it! They refused to talk to me about the situation and said I'll receive a letter. Very shady and misleading. I'm contacting a lawyer this week.
My experience with Capitol One was unacceptable. When the email was received soliciting the Auto “Blank Check” program, I became interested. I responded by completing the initial application. The following email stated that it had been approved. The email further stated that I needed to forward two items. The first, a copy of identification, and the other proof of salary. I faxed this information to Capitol One that same day. I followed up with a call to Capitol One to confirm they had received everything. They did validate all items were received. On October 31, 2012 the “Blank Check” had been sent with a limit of $13, 200.00. On November 2, 2012, I received the “Blank Check” in the mail. The packet contained the loan contract and a credit report “Snapshot”. Based on the path of emails, telephone conversations and the receipt of the actual check, I was lead to believe I would be able to shop for a new vehicle. TWO WEEKS later, I get a call from Capitol One stating they need additional information I returned the call just to be told that they were not able to verify my salary. I asked what method they used. I said that they had received three months of payroll confirming my yearly salary. They said they had called my employer and were off by 230.00 per week. I went to my HR department and verified through phone logs that no call had been made from Capitol One. They had willingly lied to me. I asked them to please tell me who they verified it with or the number they called, and this could not be provided. I was than told that my debt to income ratio was too high. How could they make that determination if they could not “verify” salary? This is a bait and switch practice where you are lured in by a deceptive promise. Why would they feel the need to send a “ “Blank Check” that you could use (up to a defined limit of course) just to be told 2 weeks later that they have found reasons to no longer keep the offer they had originally made. Because of this, I feel it necessary to file complaints with my states banking department as well as consider additional options to warn the consumer about this scam. I will never do business with Capitol One and I will always make sure I do my best to prevent anyone else from making the same mistake.

RE: Nightmare with Capital One Auto Finance Company
RE: Kia Sorento
RE: Larceny of vehicle payments by Capital One Auto Finance Company
My car finance company reposed my car Friday, April 8, 2011 under the explanation of lack of car payment. The local branch reviewed my account and found that every payment has been made. They have processed every payment and applied it to an account…..(probably my husbands---but they don’t care to hear it). They still refuse to acknowledge that one penny came from my bank at all. They don’t have the reasoning skills to look at the history and process what could be the problem…. ….one lady said they copies of the checks the bank sent were old because they were from the fall of 2010..which according to them is when I stopped making my car payment. Even with all the data it means about my credibility or information to help them begin the process of locating the mistake….and getting my car back….they bank is determined to get the additional money from me before they even research! Yet the Credit Union has given them the answer and they REFUSE to listen to it.
I contacted the bank and they REJECT any notion to believe any documentation sent to them signed off by the bank is real and not made up. They will only believe cancelled checks that I do not have because of the way they recently changed the way my bill was processed. I know longer get computerized check copies….I wonder…how is the bank has gone months and months without acknowledging or noting any mistake….as one lady did say…..my money is just out there someplace and the Credit Union and I know EXACTLY where it is…. The lack of detail to one minor number keystroke error is sending me into bankruptcy……Mistakes happen….with computers…it only takes a click..but to refuse to fix it….is unfathomable. I have two accounts with Capital One…..One has Kia written on it and the other has Titan….I can understand how someone never looked closely at the memo on the check or payment…but to refuse to fix it when given clear proof is DESPICABLE….
I do have two cars financed with Capital one and both are in my name. I told them that the Credit Union researched and located the name and account number of what the bills are being sent and applied to and …..Capital One has they do not want the information and they will do their own RESEARCH and while doing so they will auction my car….
Thus they will keep my car...charge me daily storage fee...towing fee and DEMAND $2, 700 to get my car back during the investigation...if I don't pay these fees within the next couple of days…. then they will auction my car during this 5 day time period...so I am at wits in because I can't fight this big bank...I have spoken with one department after another...and they all say...I cannot have my car back unless I give the above amount of money...and to make matters worse...they do admit they have all of payments up until December...they believed those because I could provide paper copies of the check...the way it is processed now...the bank can’t give it to the way they want it as a check check would have looked…. HOWEVER, admittedly they said they have my April 1, 2011 payment...a payment sent the same way all the others have been sent….which is how I know it is a rip off to the highest degree on a person with deliberate and methodical planning of vengeance, evil, hate, joy of seeing others fail, hurt and lose everything they have…….and yet once again that payment was sent the same way the Dec. Jan., Feb.. March...and April payments were sent…..this young man told me he had my April payment…and yet not the others….one lady asked did I have a credit card with them…..I told her I had ones years ago that was charged off……which leads me to believe this a new method of getting money from people who have charged off credit cards….They take your car payment and make you lose your car…….. all the while they come out making triple the amount owed on anything…
They, the bank. said they have never called me since March 2010 because I sent a written letter called to cease and decease contacting me...but they can't provide me a copy...I didn’t write it to my knowledge…...and they said that no one has ever called me from this place since then which is lie...because if my husband is one hour late on his payment they begin calling every hour on the hour to my cell, his cell, and my home number….You cannot escape them….and we have cell phone bills and...
I have spoken with them numerous of times because of his payments not being there on the exact due date...Yes, I have told them over and over to call my husband as it relates to his truck payment….they have never once called me about the KIA .My husband is a police officer and he knows how research and get cell phone bills if necessary to prove they have called me NUMEROUS times if a payment is one day late...
However, on Friday, I faxed them a letter of removing the cease and disease because they said they would not call me to even tell me if the found the error because of the cease and disease. I faxed all the bank documents that were never processed until someone looked..although the lady I spoke with said the reinstatement department would look at it and they never got my fax….until I made someone look but he had ounce of care about it….”Oh, yes they are here…I will not it.” ...
Each person I call is either rude or factiously somewhat understanding...one person went to the manager and showed the info but would not reinstate my car until I give him paper copies of checks that do not exist...my banks certified statements are not legitimate...I was told I cannot speak with any managers personally because they aren't allowed to give me a phone number for those departments...this whole process has turned in to a scam or shakedown to get $2, 700 from me...
They will keep all my previous payments...without saying they have them...my bank knows they have them and where...and they say they aren't allowed to switch the funds from one account to the other...so I will wind up with no car because as you can see in my account I don't have $3, 000 lying around not including the fees for towing and storage. I am working on a time clock and I need help...they have embarrassed me at work by towing my car and calling...which is a place that is not on my call list…but they have both my cell and house number and can’t use that. They called the police in the town of 20 people where I work… …. and told them they were towing my care for repossession... I had a teacher with me looking for my car like a ridiculous person and now the whole school will know and the horror and stress from this earns me a new car and a reward from them for living throughout this whole process of lunacy…..and No one Cares …..No One Cares at the bank to hear the truth….They just keeps giving me deadlines and demands for back payment…
I was never given ANY written or phone notice they were coming to get my car...NONE...Not one call….not one letter….nothing…they simply hunted me down and called my job and verified where I was….but no one at work told me either…..and yet they could not call me……me….the owner…..My bills are automatic and thus I don't look at the payments because I know they come out automatically which now is something I will forever check things ...I can't refinance my car anyplace else due to my credit wipeout when my spouse separated...once banks or anyone see that I have had a car reposed they no longer have to finance my loan...They refuse to fix my credit….I have to prove I have a home, job, bank account, references, all because there is repo stamp on my perfect paying car note...a car is something I never miss a payment on since I could drive...they have ruined my car paying credit on my credit report...and still plan to keep my car and auction it next week while they take what is said up to weeks to investigate and I should make payments on a car that is by this point is auctioned off to someone else...in my mind it is downright larceny and fraud...
I will have to get a rental car that I can't afford to pay for...this is pushing me into losing everything I have...either because of no transportation and/or no funds because of what they say I have to pay to all the other stuff that is of no financial benefit to me and all at a total lost….and the worst part about Capital One at this moment…… they still have no desire to listen to me or read the paperwork and even pretend that I am a person….one man yelled at me and told me I should pay my bills……another harshly said this was the process and he would not answer any other questions….one man was so condescending as if he were reading his script and placating me…..one lady did get up from her computer….she came back to me with the information that they had received all payments prior to December but would not acknowledge any future payments until hard copy checks are sent…which no longer exist because of the way THEY changed the way my money is processed…..one man looked and said they had my April 1 payment….Duh!...and they can’t follow a trail that says we have an April payment and all the fall payments and yet all the months in between are missing…their lack of checking makes me know this is a scam and rip off
….I have not eaten…I’m sick….I crying. I’m stuck at home without a car….I have to call people to run me to places to fax this or get this….my husband is gone…my daughter is in college…the mental strain to this whole predicament is far beyond anything I have had to deal with….I keep thinking it is a bad dream or a movie…They want all of my up-dated history to prove I work, live, or exist…over a keystroke mistake they made in accounting…and a situation they REFUSE to repair……EVEN when the answer is given to them….and then laudably sent back and coldly tell me that when this is all over…I still have to pay the two and storage fee and any additional fees even if it is THEIR fault……O!M!G! …how ignorant do they think people are…..the ignorance is on their part because if they think they can mistreat people and succeed they are crazy……I need some fast help…..Capital One needs punishment.….Sincerely….Robbed Blind!
i dealt with a dealership in louisiana in 2006. my lumina went under during katrina. i put $8000 down on a demo (2006 HHR), which was priced at $18 000 (with 27000 miles), no extrs...not even a working cigarette lighter. the dealership added a warranty for $2000, and life insurance for $2000. i went back to the dealership denying purchase of the above, lo and behold, the "finance manager" was no longer there. i argued with the attorney generals (two different terms of office), to no avail...the bank changed to capital one auto finance in 2006, which took away my coupon book and sent letters every month...showing amounts owed way in excess of payments...by the way...the finance manager had the car financed for 72 months...6 years to pay off the loan...the car was repossessed without warning in february, 2009...now the bank is saying i was 3 months behind in payments and owe them over $4000...in my opinion it was paid for...the person in the "collections department" snickered when i told her that the car had been taken out of the yard...no warning...not a phone call, a knock on the door or a business call...i received a letter stating i should come and pick up my belongings out of dallas...
Capital One Auto Finance contacted me and asked me to join there direct pay program, which I did I was informed that all late charges will stop, and I don't have to worry about trying to get a stamp to mail off the payment, sense I joind the direct pay program my account is being charged late fees and no one seem to be able to help. I have been receiving twenty calls a day Capital one. even after I told them I have letters staing that my account is up to date and all the late fees will stop upon joing the program, now it's a different story when you join late fees are being place on my account and call are coming to my house twenty times a day. Don't Capital one auto influence you on joing any of there scams
dispute resolved years ago
While living in Mexico in 2001 I had a Capital One credit card. I did not use it for over a year. I received in the mail a membership fee charge for $50.that was due the week before I received the notice. I tried to telephone Capital One but the only number on the card was an 800 nimber that was unusable outside the country. there was no other number. Plus it would cost me $3.00 a minute to call the US to try to find a number for them. I sent a letter and the cut up card cancelling my capital one account. I kept receiving letters of nonpayment with fees attached. I called capial one many times during this dispute, at $3.00 per minute. I finally sent them the original membership fee, though the account was cancelled, and they would call it even. Capital One said the problem was resolved. When I returned to the states in November 2002, my credit rating was bad because Capital One now had a $295.00 fee on my credit report based on that $50.00 membership fee. I had to put my first home mortgage in my wife's name due to this, only blemish at the time on my credit report. I called capital one. they apoligized profusely and said it was a gross misunderstanding and guaranteed me that they would take this, their error, off my credit report. This was in 2002 or early 2003. I considered the matter closed until I received my credit report from Experian with this $295 charge from a collection agency all stemming from a $50.00 membership fee for a card I cancelled and had not used for a year prior. This has been a nightmare. Can you help me resolve this matter? Sincere thanks, Steve
Capital One has a credit bureau disputes division, it sounds like human error occurred at C1 and your original cancellation was not completed. I advise everyone who closes an account to double check twice because paperwork can take two months and interest charges take 60 days to completely cycle. You can also dispute the report directly with the credit bureaus (the will send forms to be completed), the debt is so old it should not be there anyway. It also should have a small effect on your score so you may have other issues so I would recommend brushing up on everything that is on your credit reports. It is too bad you did not call the free international number for Cap one when you were back in Mexico but I guess you did not have access to Google in the town you were at.
btw, customer service reps are people. Yelling or getting angry gets them flustered and causes them to make mistakes. When you call Cap one to request a credit bureau dispute the first agent you speak to may not have experienced that request as they are rare. If they have trouble assisting you just politely ask to be transfered to a supervisor. And be patient, the people who handle rare problems usually have long hold times because they have to take more detailed notes etc so if you are next in line you may have a lengthy hold time.
Hopefully this helps.
unreasonable account restrictions
In August, 2008 I applied for a credit card with Capital One. I received correspondence from them requesting me to mail them a copy of my Social Security Card and Drivers license, since they could not verify my information. Since I still had a limited credit history, I accepted the request as reasonable and mailed the documents. About a week later, I...

I keep getting an email from someone pretending to be Capital One, asking my to sign into my account then sign out. I am attaching the address it came from: [protected]@yahoo.com.
Is there anything to be done about them?
Thank you.
I have recieved the same type of emails over the last 24 hours. You should forward that email to abuse@capitalone.com and they will investigate the issue.
Hope this helps.

unauthorized charges
I have been a Capital One credit card holder for 4+ years. I am responsible for what I have charged and pay on-time if a payment is necessary. However, that being said, Capital One has been charging me a payment protection fee for over 3 years. Totaling the monthly fee for over all these years it is over 800, they just refunded me 100 and are 'investigating' the issue. I have never signed up for this service and find it highly suspect that you can just charge someone a fee and say that it was on my statement every month, why am I disputing it now. They are stealing from people and laugh about it on the phone. Anyone out there that this has happened to? Any Esq. in the bunch that see any wrong doing. I am angry. I as a taxpayer am bailing out banks that probably practice this same thing!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I had a CapitalOne credit card in London - after two years of exorbitant interest charges and spiraling costs, I finally managed to pay off the balance and sent them the final cheque with a letter instructing them to immediately cancel my account. Two weeks later I moved house, and a year later moved again.
Six months after THAT, I received a year's worth of mail from my ex-flatmate, stating that he was returning to Australia and would no longer deal with my debts... I thought, "what?" - got my mail, realized CreditOne were chasing me for ~ GBP#290. I rang them to query, and they explained that - despite me "closing" the account - they had continued to honor the monthly payments I had authorized another company to take from that card. Despite having also canceled that authority, which was a whole other problem. SO I had 18 months of monthly charges plus 18 months of late payment fees and overlimit fees, as well as 30% interest charges.
I explained again that I had closed the account and refused to pay the additional charges - they asked me for my current address, "just so they could keep in touch", and again I refused, as I was no longer a current customer of theirs and had no responsibility to provide them with my details. It took 6 weeks of weekly phone calls for them to accept that I would not be paying the charges they had issued since I had officially canceled the account (luckily I had a dated copy of that letter).
Even in desperation I would never ever apply for a card or any other credit with them again.
In December I called a TV advertisement to plan a purchase of a U-2 Mop. The telephone operator immediately wanted my personal information as well as credit card number. (I will never be that stupid again to give out my number first). After answering her questions about the products I was interested in, ( as well as many more additional items that she wanted to add) I asked the total charges and was overwhelmed by the total as well as exorbitant handling and shipping charges. Also she said it would take 4 to 6 weeks. I told her I was no longer interested to please cancel that order. I did not want the mop. She said 'okay'.
One month later I received the mop anyway. I immediately called the company and was told I would have to e-mail someone. I did but apparently the e-mail address was a bogus one because the e-mail was never opened by anyone at the other end. I was told there was no one I could speak to on the phone.
I then opened my credit card statement and the charge had been put on the same day I talked with the telephone operator. She entered the charge anyway without my authorization!.
I called Capital One to see what could be done. The young man I spoke with immediately began lecturing me about how foolish I was to even deal with a TV Advertisement. He explained that was the reason brick and mortar stores do not sell these products so they will not be victims to people like these. He explained the stupidity of believing that your 'taped converstations' would help because of course they are lost or possibly never made or accidentally erased.
I asked if these charges could be stopped since they were to be in 3 payments. He said no there was nothing I could do except possibly ship it back for another charge. I asked to speak with someone else at Capitol One and he said "No, it wouldn't do any good!" I told him I would call back myself to speak with someone else and he sarcastically said "Okay, we'll be waiting for you!"
I called back and spoke with a woman who said she would add to my report that the young man had taken that "I specifically told the U-2 Mop operator to cancel the order before it was ever authorized". However, at that time I should not return it for another charge or do anything until I heard from Capital One. She told me I would receive a letter within 25 days on what to do.
I have heard nothing from Capital One. I have received another statement from them with another charge! They did not block the charge or send me a letter or follow up in any way.. I AM AT A LOSS AS TO WHAT TO DO! I'm assuming there is no way to fight this because I researched on the internet and found this TV Company(that sells products like these) owns several TV Channels..How unfortunate for the American Public.
I also have now seen this mop advertised in other mail-order catalogs for a fraction of the handling and shipping charges. To make matters worse:
STUPID ME; I gave in yesterday and opened the mop since it undoubtedly is mine with no recourse. OF COURSE IT DOES NOT WORK AND DO THE THINGS ADVERTISED!
Now I pray that powerful comanies like Capital One and these companies who own TV Channels will somehow be brought low by our public being informed and enlightened!
I had a vendor charge my account and forged my name to credit card receipts. I disputed the charge and Capital One took it off. When the vendor complained and said I agreed to a charge of over $1000, (I had already paid my balance with them of almost $1500) Capital One put it back on my account saying it was MY FAULT I didn't get this conversation in writing! Further, if I wanted to pursue remedy, I would need to do it outside of Capital One! I am in the Midwest and the vendor in California! I guess if you are looking to get away with fraud and you have a credit card machine...keep you eyes open for a Capital One card...you can get away with a Class A Felony!
I joined the Marine Corps in January of 2009. Prior to going I called Capital One to see if they had a program for service members to put a hold on payments while they do not have access to banking. I was told that they did and my account would be put into it. I asked to clarify if this meant I would owe the same amount of money when I got out of Boot Camp that I currently owed. They said that I was correct in my understanding. I got out of Boot Camp to a bill hundreds of dollars higher. I called and asked them to clear up the problem. After multiple calls and hours dealing with their mistake on my ten days of leave before going to my Combat Training, where I would again be without banking, I finally got them to agree to credit my account the amount that charged in Boot Camp, because I offered to pay the full amount owed the day I left for Boot Camp. When I got out of Marine Combat Training and into my job school, they had only credited $100.00 of the unauthorized charges and charged even more on me not paying the uncredited amount. I called them almost daily and talked for hours trying to fix this, not to mention the 2am-4am calls from their collections department that lead to me explaining and reexplaining my situation. Capital One lies to our service members and cheats them out of money when they are training to defend our country. They are irresponsible and will not own up to their mistake. Eventually, I will be getting out of the Marine Corps and will need my credit score to reflect my financial stability so that I can get a lower interest rate on the home I am planning on purchasing. Capital One is slowing this goal and I hope that everyone that joins the internet "support the troops" groups or has a sticker on their car actually DOES support the troops and not the financial institution that takes advantage of them and their sacrifices.
I used to really like this credit card but now I find they make it impossible to get on their website to pay your account and then you pay the same day and they put the payment in a day later and charge you $35.00 past due fee when you actually pay on time. I also pay very well. I pay my balance in full without incurring finance fees. Just two months ago I purchased extra miles from Volkswagon for my son and he is paying it to me in payments so that balance we are paying off. Once my account is paid in full, I will cancel their credit card. I think they should be investigated for their dirty methods that they do to their customers. They are con artists and scanners. I will be cancelling it as soon as possible
Beware of Capital one merchant account
Simply put, the employees who are assigned to facilitate the merchant account are double agents in disguise. Once your account is set up, they would literally share your account information with companies you never held of without your permission. Consequently, these companies will continue to access and withdraw money from your account every month. My friend owns a Boutique in Dallas Texas and she had been a victim of the fraudulent act of Capital one. At a glance you may be tempted to conclude that the following names are reputable companies, however, they have conspired with Capital one to defraud my friend. They include AMERICAN EXPRESS COLLECTION, DISCOVER NETWORK SETTLEMENT AND CAPITAL ONE MRCH MERCH, etc. Please pay close attention to the names and do not imply that the names are affiliated with credit card companies, i.e. American express or discover card, etc. When confronted, Capital one never apologize, instead, they asked the following questions, 1) why did it takes so long for my friend to bring it to their attention, and 2) why did my friend failed to catch it the first time? Nevertheless, the money is yet to be posted into my friend’s account.
finance charge
I made a mistake on my sept. bill .we sent a check for $300.00 short for the oct. bill and had a finance charge of $21.74. I payed the entired bill including the finance charge. On the nov. bill i was charge $12.47 of finance charge without having a balance on my bill.
I call costomer service three times and got three different answers from India. Can someone please get in touch with me and give me the real reason for the finance charges or I will have to close my account.I have been with your company for about 25 years or more and pay off our bill every month.
Robert, do you know what your due date was? If the payment was made after your due date then your account would have automatically assessed fees. You see Finance charges are applied to your account daily and there are maintenance fees, so as long as there is a balance of the account then the account will assess Finance Charges. Hope this helps!
I have had the same issue without an explanation. I called, spoke with a manager, demanded the removal of the finance charges, and they were removed. No idea why, but it was successful for reimbursement of the charges. Hope this helps.

Capital one complaints - worst customer service
I am so pissed! I have never received such bad service my whole life!
This is a series of events that just keep getting worse. I lost my capital one card and asked for a replacement. It took several calls to have my card replaced because the person I spoke with kept confusing my card number with that of the other cardholders in the company. When I finally got the new card and I tried paying the balance using capital one's automated system, their computer says, "a new number has been assigned for this account." it then transferred me to a customer service rep (Or should I say anti-customer service rep) who was very rude. I told her that I was frustrated and that I wanted to be transferred to a supervisor. Several minutes later, a supervisor got on the line and asked what she could do for me. I told her that I was frustrated since this is the 5th time that has happened in 2 months. I told her that they need to improve their customer service and be more efficient. She started getting defensive and said that there is nothing wrong with their customer service in india. I said that if she is already getting defensive about my complaint and she is a supervisor, then I said that that is unfortunate because the supervisors are supposed to lead and be a good example. She got really sarcastic and said, "we have the best customer service in india!" I told her I disagreed, based on her attitude and several others before her. She huffed and puffed and snapped, "you can call back later when you are feeling happy!" then she hung up. What a biyatch! I can not believe this woman! I can not believe why capital one would outsource our jobs to countries like india, that don't even give americans decent customer service. We need jobs in the us. We need to get back this customer service jobs that are being given away overseas and not being appreciated. And — these people insult our intelligence and treat us like s — t! This is terrible and needs to stop.
Note: google the words: capital one complaints and you will find hundered, even thousands of complaints. It's time to do something about this situation. Either boycott capital one or stop outsourcing jobs to india and elsewhere.
I have had an auto loan with this company for the last 3.5 years and its awful what mistakes they have made that have cost me hundreds.. They continuously take out more than one payment due leading me to obviously overdraft in my bank account and then when i call..Guess what ? I cant even understand what the person on the other line is saying because there call center is not even in the U.S. They will refuse to return me my money and state to contact my bank to file a dispute so i can get my money back or that they will just post it to my principle..Please don't sign up with this company they will do what they can and promise you so much but once you sign up they don't care about you. I am going to refinance my car just so i can get rid of this bank!
duh... your through to the collections dept not customer's service! COLLECTIONs it means it is more on collecting. think abt it..
I'm an indian working for capital one customer relations in Bangalore. Whenever u guys call ur call reaches us in India. You guys think we r stealing our jobs. But its ur american owners who are giving us jobs... I completely agree with u guys. CapOne steals money. It has increased interest rates for most of its customers. The reason given is economy. Thats ###. The late n overlimit fee charges are $39 which is ridiculous. Their payment protection program is designed to squeeze money out of u guys. I'm sick of this company. I'm hunting for a new job. If u guys have any questions email me at ajay_1r@yahoo.co.in
By the way if there's a guy called Alex answering ur call when u call CapOne its me!
I totally agree. I just recently got a Capital One card, and after reading all the complaints I quickly cancelled my card. When I called I couldn't even understand the person I was talking to, I asked if they could transfer me to someone who spoke clear English, that was a waste of time, because everybody I talked to I could not understand! So glad I decided to look up some information about Capitol One before I got stuck with this card for too long. Im gonna quickly pay off my balance, and hopefully never hear from this card company again!
over limit fees and lates fees
I have been a customer of Capital One for several years and every now and again I have had to call and let them know that they have charged my account a fee that really should not be charged.
This is happening more often, especially since the decline of the banking industry.
A late fee or over the limit fee will show up on my account every month and every month I have to call and reason with them that my account is not over the limit and that the payment they recieved showed up two weeks prior to the deadline.
Now, they are very reasonable about it, but it is becoming very frustrating when I have to call them every month and remind them that it is illegal for them to be charging fees under false pretenses.
I highly reccommend that people avoid credit cards all together, especially in such uncertain times. unfortunately, corporate America has betrayed us once again.
I requested a pay off amount from Capital One in December, then sent a check for the pay off amount. They quoted me a wrong pay off amount which was one month short, so we mailed in the last payment (again). Come January, we never received anymore statements. We assumed we paid off the loan, but we thought we should call 1 more time because they are sooo incompetent. Once again, they said we owned $117.53 left, and now we are 5 days late. I spoke with Miles, and he apologized and said they were late sending out statements and alot of people did not receive them. But don't worry, we do not report late payments to the credit burreau until you are 30 days late (even if it is their fault). So I said I am not hanging up until I pay off this loan. So I did a payoff over the phone with a check. He assured me I was now paid off. A week later I get another letter from Capital One now saying now I owe $122.68 this is dated a day before I made my $117.53 last payoff. Of course this does not balance. I then call Capital Ones Voice Jail and finally reach a representative and ask them what I show as a balance - it should be zero. He now states it is $34.31 which is the interest and late fee which has accrued. Will somebody PLEASE shoot me?! I now speak with Sonny, and try to explain what has happened. He now assures me that he will "put in a request" to have this zero'd out and I will owe nothing, and I should check back in about 15 - 20 days. You have to be kidding me !? I will bet my next 2 paychecks, that this will NOT be resolved, and this will escalated to more late fees and then collections, and there is nothing I can do. All I want to do is pay off my #$#@^%$ loan? What has happened to corporate America today? I am ashamed to be an American, and my ancesters came over from the Mayflower. If I had the opportunity to leave...I would. I'm sick of this Country. Corporations steal from you, and our Government doesn't lift a finger to help out the average hardworking guy. Yes I am pissed. To no end. There should be a law against incompetent stupidity and file a class action suit against this Capital One for being the biggest abuser.
I am going thru the same thing. I paid them in full 12/08 then get a bill 1/09 showing interest for the month of 12/08 I called and was told I needed to pay this bill even though they got my payment before the due date. I talked to a supervisor because now it's 2 days before this due date. Told just make the $12.66 and they would zero it out. Yesterday I got a bill with a membership fee of $59.00 a late fee of $15.00 and an insurance charge of $.66. When I called some lady who did not talk english very well told me I needed to pay late and insurance - ? the bill show my payment what am i paying insurance on and i haven't used this card in a year. OMG i am so over it. I am contacting the TV station here they would love to deal with this.
unfair treatment to staff
I’m writing on behalf of a family member who is absolutely destroyed now that capital one bank has taken over north fork bank. She is employed at a call center environment, with 60 plus calls waiting a day at minimum. With a service level of 30% when it’s supposed to be around 80% or higher. The minute one call ends, another one follows, without one second in between. Its non stop. They cancel morning breaks a majority of the time out of the week, it call volume is high. I feel It’s very essential that they receive all breaks due to the high call volume. The managers don’t allow u to have 2 seconds to your self. If there is a holiday or any given day where the calls are not as consistent there ready to send you home, using YOUR OWN voluntary unpaid time off. There’s a thing called compliance which you are required to reach a certain month to date average which is 93% or higher, and is nearly impossible due to reps having to limit each call to less than two minutes and two seconds, while assisting clients. Another issue is your penalized for using the restroom which is over there allotted time frame. You have to suffer if you are on the phone assisting a client and the phone call runs over into your lunch time which, for example is twelve noon and lets say the call ends at twelve ten, naturally your going to log off at twelve ten and return at twelve forty because your entitled to a half hour lunch break. Unfortunately at capital one bank because you went to lunch late you are considered late returning and it is deducted from your compliance. If we were to hang up on the customer it would be considered an auto fail, so they leave us no choice but to except it. The person that I’m speaking of is a very good employee, and has been working with the bank for three plus years. As we stated earlier she's been employeed with them ever since it has been North Fork Bank. She has never been written up or recieved any verbal warnings. She has kept a Great attendance and always meets the job requirements and expectations. I Come home every day and see this person mentally physically destroyed, this job is getting the best of her. It’s indescribable the amount of stress and depression this person has endured working with this company. This is not just a problem with this individual 80% of her co-workers have complained and I’ve decided to take further action in hopes to seeing some results. If neccesary, this person would be willing to give all her information to proceed further. thank you so much for your time, and i look forward to hearing from you.
I understand! My wife go through the same thing at Capital One Call Center in Irving TX...
Unfortunately banks are just unethical. That's just the way they are. What are everyday sheep supposed to do about it? The government is every bit as much unethical. What are we going to do? Have a revolution and replace Capitalism with Communism. Nope that doesn't work either. I'm sure your family member is a good person at heart however really all she is doing is supporting a twisted system by working in it in the first place. It is sad this is true but in fact she is responsible too. She is responsible for supporting a twisted organisation. Really what she should be doing is taking her time to find another more ethical institution to work for. All the best to you and your family member... I mean it... I'm sure she's nice but she's got to take responsibility for her own welfare as no one else will do it. She is being used and at the same time she is contributing to her and societies's misuse. Her spirit is crushed because the system isn't spiritual. Time for her to move on.
;)
North Fork Bank customer service sucks!
I now understand why it sucks.
unauthorized billing
My wife and I made a small purchase with our Capital One Visa card that accidentally took our account slightly over our credit limit. Rather than deny the sale because it would take us over our limit, Capital One granted the sale because they wanted the business, then charged us a penalty of $39.00 (more than the over limit amount) and to add insult to injury... they immediately sent a derogatory notice to the credit reporting agencies... and guess what?... right in the middle of the mortgage process for our new house. I can understand the idea of not going over your credit limit and I can even understand being penalized for such a terrible transgression...but to then deliberately trash our credit report while collecting their excessive fees is beyond moral and typical of why the average American hates big business. We DID get the mortgage and we ARE closing our account with Capital One. Capital One... Definitely NOT in our wallet.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
If you want a credit card company that stands behind a fraudulent charge, don't apply for Capital One Visa. I just paid out $1500.00 for an item I purchased on the internet that was ordered, but not available. Although I called Capital One to dispute the charge and they told me I wouldn't be responsible, the company eventually did issue a credit, but not until the charge went into the next billing cycle. After talking to Capital One again, they told me I had to pay the $1500.00, even though it was credited, or they would sock me with finance charges. Bottom line...the internet company used my money for one month; and Capital One had it for another month. I closed my card and went with American Express.
capital one hires #!!!
Listen, capital one credit card customer service reps, especially the ones in india are #! So rude, so stupid and so arrogant!
Why do we have to outsource everything to other countries while we need jobs here in the us?
Capital one, you are greedy! It's all about profit, profit, profit! You don't care about giving customer service.
We hope that you go bankrupt soon!
Am a long time user of Capital One as well as many other Major cards, but never ever seen a CC company so disorganized.
I received a renewal card from capital One without asking for one (since I had another 2 months left for expiration of my existing card) with a sticker and a 1-800 # to call to activate it.
Upon calling, I was shunted three (3) times after being asked the same olkd question..first name, Last name and the usual other crap, only to land with a Guy called Sam (Am sure was from own Home coutry, INDIA !).
AND GUESS WHAT I WAS TOLD, SIR, ONE HAS TO WAIT FOR 15 DAYS TO ACTIVATE THE CARD..
My point is then why the hell they do not say so on the letter they attach to the renewal card..
I sent an e mail to customer swervice regarding the same, and guess what i got back again:
"Dear Trevor, due to the status of your account, we cannot e- mail details"
Capital One should cut that BS, which I am sure is that they do not want this on records..
what a bunch of crappy credit card companies. the onlycompany I never had an issue of any sort amongst 8-9 of my CC issuers, has been AMEX ! BOA was Ok untill last 3 years, when I noticed their Foxy tricks on change of terms, which in any case did not affect me too much as I always paid off all my balances on all cards.
capital one worst customer service
Capital one must be a genius at hiring the rudest, most condescending customer service reps in the world. Especially the ones that they outsource from india. They are arrogant and don't give a # about your problems with their credit card.
Capital one must be the greediest, # credit company around!
They obviously don't care because they have plenty of customers. Beware, capital one, your days are over! Before you know it, you will be bankrupt just like those a-holes at wall street!
Capital one — that is karma for you!
Capital One must be one of the top poor customer service companies in America. I tried getting transferred
to different departments, in hopes of finding someone more knowledgeable, kinder, friendlier, more professional,
but Capital One does not have anyone in their Customer Service department that will work with customers in need.
What a poor experience I have had with ALL of my dealings with them. I stay with them because they are one of the few
credit card companies out there for poorer credit.

CAPITAL ONE------- that is Karma for you!
Capital One is absolutely the worst company ever! The customer service, if you can call it that, is absolutely horrid. But if you think their credit card services are bad, it's nothing compared to the clowns they've got working in their auto finance department. They have absolutely no idea what they are doing; they lose vital customer documents, don't keep accurate records of correspondences with customers, and their internal communication is abysmal. And should you as a customer ever call to complain to a manager, they will decidedly refuse to put you on the phone with one; instead they will tell you that a manager will call you back and if you insist, they will hang up on you!
UNDOUBTEDLY THE WORST COMPANY EVER!
I totaly agree Capital One has they worst customer service love the scripts they read from and you are right they do not care. Three people I talked to admited to not even having there own companies card what does that tell you?
They raise the interest rate on there best customers, cut their credit limits all with no notification of doing this but they claim they have start reading the posts on all of these complaint sites almost everyone says they were not notified of the rate increase nor that they were slashing limits on top of this.
What happened to all of the bail out money we are paying for for this company? This is how they treat their good loyal customers, wow what a way to do business.
I know the economy is bad, do they think they are the only ones suffering wow how selfish is that we are all suffering the difference is some of us work for companies that put things in place so it would not affect the consumer. Quite a difference here, as far as I can tell they have done nothing but screw the consumer again what a way to do business.
I could not agree more. I have tried to pay my balance off on my Captial One card for two months. Each month I get a bill for more charges. When I called, I asked for the payoff balance and they tell me what it is. When I pay that amount they send a bill next month for interest charges that accrued since I paid it off...? They must pull this figure out of thin air? Once you are in with Capital One, you can't get out!
