I recently started to use Capital Onecard prepaid as a secondary source for my paycheck direct deposit, since I get paid on Friday and my bank wachovia does engage in the practice stacking your debits, thus I was incurring overdraft charges. the first time I used the Capital one card was Friday payday, and i made two purchases. By around 7 pm that night, my card was declining. I called them and they stated that I needed to go thru verification by faxing my social security card and drivers licence, and that they did not know when I would be able to use my card, I could not use my card until Monday afternoon. The next payday, they did not get my direct deposit available until 830 pm stating there was a problem with the direct deposit. I would not reccomend this product to anyone! You have a multi-billion dollar bank/credit card issuer that thinks it is ok to tell a customer "we are working on it, and I do not know when you can have access to your money"Just because you use a prepaid card doesnt mean you can be walked over. i have used prepaid cards in the past to help manage my spending, and to help me not incur ridiculous overdraft fees from wachovia even when i have overdraft protection...but thats another story. Netspend is a great card that i have used in the past, but I was trying to see what capital One had to offer... nothing but problems, excuses and no access to my hard earned salary on payday. Stay away from this product...Customer service closes about 8pm, and they are in Utah and advised me my money would be available by 12 pm their time which is 3pm EST...it was still not available until 830pm that night after 4 calls, and my car insurance due. They will leave you in the lurch with no recourse and it is your monry. I can see why citizens do not trust the banks.

Consumers...do NOT get in bed with this corrupt organization. They are SHARKS who care nothing about its customers or doing business fairly. They play games like putting you on hold for long periods of time, hoping you'll hang up and not bother them any more.

I recently called to request my interest rate be lowered (I've been paying these creeps on time every month for over 2 years). Of course the answer is always NO. When I questioned the rep as to why, she couldn't even come up with an answer other than to say "at this time we cannot". I called back 2 months later to request the same...I got the same answer and as kept on hold for nearly 1/2 hour! I once again asked why? Same response.

They don't want our business...they just want to be able to "suck people dry".

Well, as I told the rep, I've been fortunate enough to pay what I owe them off this month. I will NOT be using that card ever again and I will NOT spend my money with organizations that do not respect the hand that feeds them.

Go with another credit card company...this one is BAD !

Captial One, please quit sending out offers you can't follow through with. We were sent a letter in the mail that we were preapproved to refinance out auto loan and you turned us down although we have 2 long good standing credit card accounts with you. We will most likely be closing both of our credit cards with you and will make sure everyone we know knows how corrupt you are. It would be greatly apprecitiated if you would quit sending us bogus offers in the mail.

Thanks for nothing

My husband was going to open an account with them so he went online to request a card. We received the card and called to activate it but he was sent to the fraud department to confirm his identity. They told him that the information about his life was not what was on his credit report. he told them he did not want the card and they told him 'fine'. I ran his credit report and everything he told them was on his report but they said he was a liar. They froze his account and sent him a bill for activation fees when the card was never activated. We have called them but every time he calls they say he is not who he claims he is. We have sent letters and included a copy of his drivers license and household bills with his name and address to confirm his identity but have received no response. Every month they tack on late fees for the activation fee and will not allow him any access to that account or close it like he asked. Not sure what else we can do. He was trying to build his credit and they are ruining it.

With the U.S. economy the way it is, why should we give Capitol One our money, when they have outsourced their business overseas. Do we really want to make their CEO and stockholders more money? I don't think so.

Since our economy is the way it is, my husband can not find a job, so naturally we have fallen behind on some of our bills. It really *** me off when Capitol One calls and I am not even speaking to someone in the U.S. I would be willing to let the company know the reason we are late on our payment, and we are trying to pay everything we can, but when told, the individual in India told us they didn't care, they have jobs and do not care what the U.S. economy is.

Once we have our account paid in full, we will close it. I will not make a company money if they do not care about our Country.

If everyone would stop talking to the people overseas and tell them that they will only talk to people in the U.S., maybe it would send a message to Capitol One. The one thing that would really send a message is if we all stopped using their credit cards and other services. If they stop making money and the reason is told to them in plain ENGLISH, "We will not support a Company that does not support U.S. Workers", then maybe they will bring the jobs back to where they belong!

We as Americans need to hit them where it hurts, THEIR BOTTOM LINE. My plan is to deal with companies that keep their jobs in the United States!

I had a judgement filed on me, I paid capital one in December, last year, got a confirmation number, showed on my checking account where it was deducted, and now 7 months later I received a letter saying they are taking the payment out of my checking account, claiming the payment was never made...and... even though I have proof I did. Too... Now they say it is another account which conveniently has the same account number, and the same balance...I have retained a lawyer, anyone having the same issue should do the same it is horrible, and unjust, no more!

Hello my name is Shelonda Kennedy, my reason for filing this complaint is that I've had something accrue on my account twice in less then two months and it is causing great concern on my part.

In the month of May I was charged an over the credit limit fee on my account. When I called to inquire about how this could have happen and to see what I could do to prevent it from happening again. The young man on the other end of the line explained to me, I had exceeded my limit by mere pennies and this is the manner in which matters like this are dealt with. This I understood but the June statement is what caught me by surprise.

You see in an effort to take preventive measures on my part I made certain I paid more then my minimum of $15 so that it would cover any over the limit fee of a few pennies. I paid $25 on my account to reach my goal in August concerning a letter that was sent to me by your establishment.

This letter stated that if I managed not to go over the limit on my account up to August I would qualify for a credit line increase which would be just in the nick of time for me because that extra cash would help me prepare for her starting school this fall. Now when I asked your phone rep. if there were any additional fees being billed to my account monthly he said no!

This is what called my attention to the June statement because it shows a finance charge of $6.98 which is supposedly the reason I exceeded my limit. Charges on the account were in the amount of $5.00 (Thompson Oil), and $7.25 (Murphy) bring my total to $12.25 + a $6.98 finance charge for a grand total of $29.23.

This is in addition to an additional $25.00 payment in the month of May which was supposed to take me out of the red according to your representation what waived the over the limit fee. Someone please help me understand I wouldn't write in if I didn't need to have a true understanding of what went wrong and how it can be fixed.

I sent Cap One VOD they requested more info. I resent VOD back with their letter.

I received letter dated 7-3-08 stating I had until 7-3-08 to pay 5, 499.34 in full. They go onto say they do not have a valid signed agreement with me because this account was set up on line or over the phone? They sent a copy of a statement dated Nov and Dec of 2017 and a copy of a customer Agreement.

What do I do next? I had ID theft and filed BK in 2017. This is part of that but I can not get Cap One to comply. This is the only bad mark left on my credit report. It shows charge off!

My daughter spent 3 days in Amsterdam before her trip to Uganda for two weeks. A week before the trip, we visited the Capital One branch, explaining where she was going, asking them to notify the debit card company, and to verify that she would be able to use it get cash in her various countries. When she arrived in Amsterdam, her debit card never worked. I spent countless hours on the phone and in the bank office. Everyone was nonchalant and just shrugged off my panic about my child arriving in Africa penniless. Only one Capital One staff person seemed to take any responsibility and understand how concerned I was. Nevertheless, she was unable to change anything and my daughter had a useless debit card. Dissatisfaction is not the word.

I am being held liable for fraud charges made on my credit card account. I have attempted to point out to them that my credit card has never left my possession and charges are of amounts that are of a value that all took place on the same day and at type of business I do not normally use credit card with (being supermarkets). Asked them to review my spending habits but no response other than I will be liable until I prove to them different. I have contacted police dept. of 1 of the cities where fraud took place which they advised me to also contact Federal Trade Commission.

I attempted to contact merchants where it all happened and they just refer me back to Capital One.

I had four credit cards, all with a limit of $1, 000 or less. I paid off all of my cards and notified the company, then moved out of state. I had a forwarding order with the postal service. I recently moved back and found bills for an annual membership fee and late charges that totaled over $500. I called the company and they said they had no record of me closing my accounts. They hit me four times for annual membership fees, plus late charges. There had been no activity on the accounts since I closed them.

I mailed written correspondence. I called their customer service three times. I was hung up on by one representative. Finally, I asked to speak to a supervisor. They agreed to make all the accounts $0. If I hadn't been so persistent and demanded they remove the charges, I would have had to pay the fees and had late charges reported on my credit report.

A note for all taxpayers who have been victim to Capital One abuse in lending, we're giving them 3.5 billion in funds they DO NOT even need, to aid their shareholders finacial security. Tell your representative do NOT give Captal One unneeded cash from taxpayer funds. They do not give such breaks to their customers even in crisis, and it will not likely help any of their customers in any way.

We have two Capital One credit card accounts. We promtly receive one of those account billing statements and make the payment on time. The other account is different. Some months I do not receive a statement. I am a busy mother of three children and at first I thought I may have lost the bill, although this is the only account of ALL the bills I pay that this has happened to. I would receive a phone call from Capital One saying my payment was late and I could pay by phone. Not only would they tell me I had to pay the payment amount but also a late fee, a pay by phone fee, some othe kind of fee and the payment amount for the next month even though that statement would not be sent out for several more weeks! This has happened 5 times over 2 yrs., oddly the same months. Suspicious.

Credit Card activity ceased in September 2017. Made last payment in October 2017 along with request to close account.
Was told that the account had to remain open for 30 days without any activity and then they would close.

Called back in November 2017 requesting to close. They said that a charge appeared on my statement. I forgot that I had an old web host that was still charging. I changed the card associated with the Capital One credit card and waited another 30 days. In fact I didn't call them back until March of 2017.

I called and verified that no other activity happened on the card and again requested that they close the account. They said it was now closed and that I wouldn't receive any more statements.

I have received statements every month since. Every other month I call Capital One to ask why am I receiving statements still if the account is closed. I am told that I shouldn't be receiving anything since the account is closed. However, every month I receive a statement along with a blank check to write a withdrawal from the account, which is a scary thought.

Anyway, I'm still working on getting Capital One to close (for real) the account. So to everyone, enjoy 'what's in your wallet' until you try and close the account.

Here's how Capital One is dealing with the economy to get good customrs to charge more----they are raising my interest rates to twice what I'm payihng on the card issued by my credit union. I have never missed a payment and I've been paying way more than the minimum monthly payment. I owe less than $500 now. I've had the card for over ten years. Up until recently they were begging me to sign up for rewards or a lower rate. Now my rate jumps to at least 17.9% on any new purchases. And on top of these "favorable rates" I pay an annual fee of $69. Do you think I'm going to keep this card open? No way.

I just received my rate increase letter from Capital One today. They are raising my interest rate to 9.9 to 17.94. Trying to decide if I'm going to officially opt out and close the card or just cut it up and pay off the balance at the old rate. My fear with just cutting it up rather than opting out is that when they charge the annual fee it will trigger the higher interest rate on the entire balance. The letter doesn't make that very clear. And quite frankly, and even if it is meant to apply to new purchases only I don't trust them to do what they say.

I had good credit and gained the payment protection plan in 2017. I lost my job in 2017 and decided to go to school, so I worked part time for the next year. Upon getting back out into the job market in the bad economy, I was struggling to pay my bills while becoming self-employed.

Since I was almost 2 months behind on my payment to Capital One and they were calling my phone daily, I got my act together to call them and finally admit, I needed to activate this payment protection plan. While questioning my 'most recent' job history, I honestly admitted I had been only working part time. Without further consideration, I was told bluntly, the plan is not covered for part time employment! I was in shock.

The paperwork they sent me in 2017 had all of the particulars and I should have been familiar with the restrictions, I was told! So, for every month I had the payment protection for 4 years averaging maybe $15 to $36 a month I paid into it is now all for nothing. My back up plan in case of catastrophe is a joke! However, they explained, it is still good coverage for disability (major) or death 'god forbid' (surely accidental only)! But I need this coverage now. What about a credit, I asked. We are only authorized to credit you $30 at this office, otherwise, please write to our corporate offices! Ha! What a scam! Even if I did read the paperwork in 2017 I forgot it. Even my regular insurance coverage sends me paperwork every 6 months to a year so I can review it!

As noted by the pompous representative on how I was given the paperwork when I signed up 4 years ago and should be familiar as my responsibility 'just as you do with your insurance'!

So, I called back to talk to someone about the hardship program they offer, whatever that is. Meanwhile, the new representative, wants to take a payment over the phone. I explained my situation and that I was denied using the protection program because I was not employed full time prior to activation and HE was surprised. He sells this 'great protection plan' in these hard times. I bet he doesn't know the fine print and if he did he probably wouldn't own the plan himself. So, they have easily kept $2, 000 of my hard earned and dutifully paid payment protection money and I will be reported to the credit bureau!

I will never fall for this again. I could've saved that money and paid them off, but I thought I had my ducks in a row in case 'god forbid'! I am without a job and need MY MONEY to assist me in hardship. boy I am hot. What a SCAM! I can't believe this (well, really I can - corporate BS)!

I would recomend that both of you call Capital One to get clarification on your Change in Terms. It seems neither of you are very clear on why your interest rates are being increased and how opting out works.

My credit card was stolen and Capital One will not give me the requested statements I need for my police report. The police department has requested these statements 3 times, and still nothing. The person who stole my card is getting away with $6000 charged on my account. I am a victim of identity theft and my credit score has tanked. Capital One has by far the worse the customer service.

I received the notice from Capital One about the interest rate hike. I called the phone number on the notice and was informed that I would have to cancel my account if I did not accept the terms of their ridiculous interest rate increase. I cancelled the account, and was told that I could not use it after May 1st.

I then received a notice 2 weeks later from Captial One saying they were "immediately revoking" my charging privledges because they had learned of my plans to file BANKRUPTCY?! Are you kidding me? I have no intention of doing that, and my financial situation has NEVER been better. I own a house, I have a job, I am doing quite well actually. I called Capital One to find out exactly where they get off making this sort of stuff up, and was rudely told by someone in India that I had to deal with their "bankrupcty" department. I told him that was the whole point, I don't need to speak with anyone in that department, because I am NOT FILING for that. He HUNG UP ON ME. Nice...

So, if I cancel my account voluntarily, it doesn't look so bad on my credit report. If THEY cancel it with their FALSE accusations and baseless reasons? My credit score goes in the toilet. This is CLEARLY their way of revenge for cancelling my account with them. BEWARE OF CAPITAL ONE

Oh yes i will confirm that Capital One is vengeful. I myself made the mistake of writing them a very polite letter and asking them to please alter the terms of my credit or i was going to go with another credit company. It was after that i began to get some very nasty and altered statements from them which made no sense at all. I tried to seek legal advice but because the advice was free and this was against a major credit corporation i only got so far. I ended up with a major headache and had to pay out money i never owed just to close the account. It is completely wrong and disgusting that a creditor is able to have this kind of power when all you wish to do is cancel an account and your credit is in fine standing. One more reason the American economy has fallen apart. I hope Capital One loses everything and that no one comes to their rescue.

I agree with A. Davis. Call Capital One before deciding one way or another. Also, check out what's happening with all credit card companies, this isn't just about one company changing APRs and such. Last I read 7 out of 10 major CC companies were hiking the rates on their customers cards.

I would also recommend speaking with a financial adviser before closing any account to find out what the impact of closing any account would be. Last thing you would need right now is hit to your credit score when you may need to rely on that score more and more in this economic crisis.

Same exact situation to two seperate accounts my husband and I had with Capital One. Although I cannot quote their exact words, the increase in interest rate was "due to the economic conditions" we all are currently facing. We had the accounts for almost 10 years and had never missed a payment and had been late, maybe once by a few days.

Their suggestion was if you choose not to agree to the "new terms" you could close your account and continue to pay off the balance at the lower (original) interest rate of 9.9%. If you accepted the "new terms", then your rate would jump to almost 18%.

Both my husband and I paid a monthly fee of $6.00 per month on each account faithfully from "day one" which is $12.00 x 12 months = $144.00 a year just to keep the account open regardless of our account balances.

We had never had any complaints with Capital One prior to receiving the "new terms agreement". We cancelled our accounts and cut up the cards. Ironically, most people don't take the time to read all the tiny inserts that are mailed seperately from your monthly statement.

My advise, take the time to read over the term agreements you receive. We had a very similar problem with MBNA four years ago when we failed to respond to an interest increase from 9.9% to 24.24%. Two months later my new account statement arrived with the "new rate" at 24.24%. After contacting customer service, they seemed proud to offer me a much lower increased interest rate at...17.9%. I refused their offer, closed the account and transfered the balance owed to Bank of America.

A friend, who is a senior citizen, received a call from Capitol One . They wanted him to take a credit card to which he refused. They sent it anyway with a bill for $59.00. He did not want the card as he had told them and proceeded to cut the card in two and sent it back to the company. The next month he received a bill for $59.97 the .97 being interest. I proceeded to step in and help. I called Capitol One and said I was his daughter and to please stop sending bills to him on a credit he already told them he didn't want to begin with. They needed to hear from him to " cancel the account " which he did and which they say they did. What bothers me is how they are forcing credit cards on people who don't want them to begin with then sending bills with accumulating interest on a card that's never been used or activated. I believe they are scamming people for the $59.00 hoping to at least get that amount from them and preying on senior citizens. Perhaps too many people have ripped them off in the past and they are trying to get some money back by strongarming some unsuspecting seniors. I could see them only charging their yearly fee if the card has been used but why would someone pay a fee on a card that' never been used and never will be? Thanks

Yeah, that's all well and good if it's a real complaint. How many complaints have you seen on a lot of boards that just aren't real? Not only that, sometimes the person making the complaint is the one at fault.

Tell Oscar is good if the complaint is real, not so good if it's not. And there's no way to refute them, so there's no way for people to know the difference.

What it is to the casual observer is a list of complaints.

It could be better than any of these other places - particularly for Canadians. But it needs a little more interaction somewhere to make it really useful.

Capitol one chose to add money to my purchase amount, and no purchase was made. This was done so they could colect a higher interest on a certain dollar amount. After several attempts to get an explanation, and several differant answers from each person I spoke with. I am told they can do this if they want to. It certaily can't be legal. How can a person owe more on a purchase when a purchase was not made. I believe they are doing this to many clients. The one thing they are counting on is the consumer will not notice this. It is located in the small box on your bill that says" finance charge". Pay close attention. They are sharks on the move, and you will get bit. I do have black and white proof of my findings.

I watch my credit frequently sometimes daily just to make sure nothing funny is going on. I received paper statements and file them carefully because I like to keep duplicate records. I do all my payments on-line. Recently, within the month I called Capital One arbitrarily to see if they could lower my interest rate.

The agent said that they would be raising the interest rate and that I had been sent a letter.

I have two accounts my son has one at the same address.
WE DID NO RECEIVE ANY NOTICE/LETTER ON ANY OF THE ACCOUNTS.
LATER after having discussions with a couple of different Cap One agents, one said the letter gave me a chance to OPT OUT OF THE INTEREST RATE CHANGE if I called by a certain date I HAD CALLED! .

THIS IS A SCAM! I ABSOLUTELY DID NOT RECEIVE ANY LETTER!

NOW I HAVE ADDITIONAL CHARGES OF OVER $70.00
AND THEY CLAIM THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO TO ADJUST THE RATES.!

Well, I cancelled my Capital One secured card account in frustration because after ten weeks from being "instantly" approved I still had not received my card. I had plenty of time to shop around and found that most banks will give you a secured card with no annual fee (compare to the $59 annual fee Capital One charges). Also, Capital One does not pay interest on your security deposit, whereas banks will. Most banks will automatically give your security deposit back when you qualify, C1 won't. After wasting ten weeks waiting for C1 to get me a card (everything goes through snail mail, it took a month just for them to send me a letter saying how to send my deposit, it took 2 weeks for my money order to clear...), I cancelled my account before I even got or activated my card because I read so many horror stories on the internet about people not being able to close their accounts etc, and they said it will take two months before they will even send me my deposit back. I said I wasn't surprised. I would recommend not going through Capital One for a secured credit card; go through one of your local banks!

I won't bother with the long boring details of my story. Suffice with the following bullet points:

1) Despite a friendly marketing pitch, CapitalOne is a cheap, profit-motivated company that will stop at nothing to hit you with extra charges and deny service whenever possible.

2) I was held hostage (literally - the police were involved) and forced to sign a credit card receipt. When I appealed to Capital One to deny the charge, I was told by Capital One that I signed it, so tough ###. No interest or concern for my well-being.

3) Their Rewards are a joke - it costs between 1.5 and 2x the points it would normally require to purchase things...so don't be fooled by their big Rewards pitches...all a scam.

I'm too angry to write more, but I feel SOO good that I just cancelled my card and am forever done with this horrible company.

Same thing happened here. Received letter in envelope that was mailed "Standard Sorted", typical for junk mail and marked "IMPORTANT NOTICE OF A CHANGE IN TERMS REGARDING YOUR ACCOUNT.." Capital One was changing our Platinum Visa's fixed APR to a variable rate and increasing it substantially to 24.9%. This after being a customer since 2017, always paying on time and always more than the minimum monthly payment. The mastercard account was paid off and closed several years ago and like the Platinum Visa, always paid on time and payments exceeding minimum. They provided a special number to call and the rep acknowledged the rate increase was in response the the declining economic conditions. However, they (Capital One) was understanding in that they did not want existing charges to incur the new APR and that the new rate would apply to future transactions. I was further informed that Capital One was actively looking into these complaints from long-time, on-time paying customers and that they possibly could provide a lower interest rate, a new plan with different rate or no change to existing account and a letter would be forthcoming on their decision. However, when I questioned them further, they could not provide a date. I made it very clear I would never pay their insanely high interest rate. I closed the account, obtained the payoff balance and paid the account in full, severing all future ties with Capital One. When you see those commercials "What's in your wallet?" you can be assured it will be empty if you do business with Capital One!

I have had a Capital One credit card for 5-10 years...never once have I been late in paying any of my creditors, my credit score is exceptional and I never have gone over the limit on any of my credit I have. I would consider myself a very very financially responsible individual (my parents obviously did something right). Only problem I have had with the card is that it holds a high balance due to an ex-gf who split town without paying me. Anyway, June 2017 I received my statement and low and behold received quite a shock. The interest rate had spiked from 9% to 17.9% and my minimum payment skyrocketed. I had to shuffle a bit but I have been able to make payments. My complaint to them has been that they NEVER gave me notice of the increase and that I never had the opportunity to opt out of the increase. I have called them 3 times, yet their overseas cust svc people just want to read from a script and basically tell me that I'm SOL. Whether they sent me a notice or not I don't know - I'm sure its probably sitting behind some mail sorting machine somewhere and I'll get it in about 5 yrs whenever they decided to clean out behind the machine. Anyway...I have since sent a letter to the CEO of Capital One (directly to them in McLean VA) to see if they will provide me with the option to opt out, close my account and go back to my 9% while I'm paying it off. See how locky I'll be with that! Seems stupid though that they get bailout money from us 'taxpayers' yet all they want to do is give themselves a bonus and buy up Chevy Chase Bank and make themselves one of the largest banks in the Washington DC area.

My credit cards were ran by for over 30k. Citi bank notified us and removed all charges and so did capital one who removed all but one charge for $1400 and simply they want us to pay for it.

Its all in black and white, I have all documentations etc and I have proved it to them but they said we don't care, they want my company to pay for it.

Its total non sense, they filed on my credit report and got me frost raided and I have no choice but to file a law suit against them.

any one has any idea how I can take a harsh action against their malicious behavior ?

I received my March 2017 from Capital One and found my APR has gone from around 10% to over 17%. I have been a member of this Bank for over 10 years and have had savings in excess of $60, 000 and a credit line around $20, 000. Never missed a payment and have paid down my credit debt to zero several times. I called and asked why the increase in interest and without any prior notification and was told the company is in tough economic times and it had nothing to do with my good standing with respect to my account and furthermore; we see you have been paying above your minimum payments. Furthermore, Capital One informed it's credit card customers in February of 2017 that there may be an upcomeing increase in interest rates! I have always planned to close my account when that happens but am now told that since I have used my credit card since then, that I must pay the 17% interest on the balance. I was also told Capital One is not willing to work with me on this matter.

I am commenting on my own complaint after receiving a phone call from the executive department of Capital One. Despite all the negative input with regards to Capital One, I am very pleased to inform the forum readers that I have settled my grievance. The person to whom I spoke allowed me to opt-out, which closes my account and payments are made on the remaining balance at the APR last applied before the interest rate increase. Score One for Capital One! Donald North Pole, Alaska
