I recently, April 22, took a repositioning Celebrity Silhouette cruise from Fort Lauderdale to Amsterdam. On the third night, an alarm in my cabin sounded,
I jumped up, trying to put my jeans and looking for the life vest
I was panicked!
My heart was pounding, I was shaking and having visions of my family and then of me trapped underwater. The phone rang and someone asked me if there was a problem in my cabin, I answered that only the alarm was beeping and I was panic stricken. After realizing that I wasn't drowning, I told that person that they better do "something" for me. The alarm then went off an hour later, this time no panic but security came to see why this was happening, he couldn't.
The next day I went to reception and asked what they were going to do. I was told I get a bottle of wine. I replied that the ordeal I had been through, and the fact that I am 70 yo, I could have had a heart attack. The very nice woman said she would speak to her manager. In the meantime I saw the captain and relayed the story. He replied with attitude, that if I had gone to the safety briefing, I would have known the difference between the smoke and general sounds. I said I did attend the meeting, however, when you are awakened in the middle of the night you don't think about types of alarm you're hearing.
He said he would look into it
He didn't. I ended up with a bottle of cheap wine.
Claimed loss: I had no property stolen or anything lost, other than a couple of years off my life!!
Desired outcome: I don't know what this incident is worth. It was probably the scariest incident in my 70 years. If I'd of had a heart attack and died, I wonder if the lawsuit my family would be filing would cost Celebrity more than a bottle of wine???
