Admissions rep conversation was unprofessional and dismissive.
I called into the customer service line shortly after 7:30p on June, 29th and spoke with the operator who gathered my reason for the call, which was me being an undergraduate with questions to see if I would be returning. However, I was transferred to an Enrollment rep (do not remember her name) but she was very professional and nice, however once she was informed I wasn’t trying to register right away but had questions to see if I would be re-attending Devry she transferred me to someone whom she thought would accommodate me with my questions in Admissions. That was not the case at all… the conversation started off good, but the Rep assumed I was trying to enroll for next term the following week. The question was never asked until almost at the very end of the call, but it was asked in such a way that it made me feel after it was discovered her energy shifted… she was no longer speaking to me in a professional manner but a rushed and dismissing tone. It was highly unprofessional and she contradicted herself on three accounts.
The first being when we got on the call she clearly stated to me she knew they were technically closing at 8pm but she’d stay on the call until she answered my questions and helped me, later into the call when she found out I wasn’t registering right away she stated, “well since you’re not about to register for next term there’s no rush to handle this, we are focusing on people that are registering right now and getting them in the next week so I won’t be staying over 8pm to discuss more details”. That was dismissive and made me look at her as both unprofessional and someone who didn’t keep to their word of speaking late with me on the call, if necessary. She never once stated her staying longer on the call with me was contingent upon me enrolling for next term. And honestly I’ve called other colleges to do research to see if it was a fit for me and that’s my right… I do not have to enroll right now and especially if I’m still considering other options at this time or dealing with other personal matters. I’m also certain that those other College Reps are trying to get as many enrollments as possible and none of them made me feel as horrible as I felt on yesterday. The fact that I’m feeling this way from a Representative at the University I’ve spent so much money pouring into years past and an undergrad is appalling.
The added point being I never stated to the Rep I would be registering right away I stated up front I had questions and she assumed I’d be trying to register right away, but her eagerness shifted from trying to accommodate my questions once she discovered I’d not be registering right way. She contradicted herself yet again and was dismissive when she asked me when I’d like to reschedule the call and I stated earlier into the call I’d be available to talk the next day (which would have been today) at 2pm.
I was taken aback that she’d ask me when I’d be available again for the call when I’d already stated that availability. So me being polite, I restated today at 2pm and she said that her schedule was fine to talk, but then almost immediately stated “well since you’re not in a hurry to register now I need to move you back to say another day would the 6th of July work”?
I felt horrible yet again because she’d basically changed her words around to accommodate herself and not my needs. She’d clearly just stated she would speak to me the next day and that she was available to talk around that time, which was just horrible to admit that to me and then change her stance.
The third time was how she handled inquiring about my academic status. So upon discovering I was actually an undergraduate possibly returning, I wanted to see how many more classes I’d have to take now if I were to possibly return and how that would work out for me financially. She’d already went over the classes I’d taken in full length (discovering some classes I’d gotten a certain letter grade in I later retook and got a passing grade or better) and never once made me feel like my academic status was in question. That was before she knew I wasn’t registering right away, after she discovered that she literally asked me, “do you know what your academic status was upon the last time you were here, was it an academic dismissal?”
I was completely taken aback by those two questions because it never came up when she thought I’d be registering, but I answered her that I wasn’t academically dismissed, that I decided I needed to take a break due to personal reasons. I then asked her why did she ask me if I was academically dismissed? She goes on to state, “because I’m looking over your grades from before and you know what never mind.. we’ll also be finding out what your academic status was the last time you were here”. Firstly, I’d just told her that my academic status wasn’t a dismissal, that I decided not to come back on my own accord and second, we went over my grades at length and she clearly viewed that some classes were retaken and I passed or got better a grade.
She made me feel like she was insinuating I wasn’t being honest or I wasn’t certain what my academic status was and I never told her I didn’t know and or that I was actually dismissed. She was being very dismissive however, and unprofessional yet again and that was enough for me to report this incident and speak to someone above her regarding the nature of our call conversation last night.
I hate that I had to experience that type of treatment when all I wanted was information, nor would I want her to do that to someone else in that manner because it’s discouraging behavior towards an undergraduate and also any new individual considering possible enrollment at Devry, but deciding not to enroll right away for whatever reasons.
As an interesting future note to consider, it never occurred to her that perhaps I could have been persuaded by her to reconsider and register sooner, but her entire tone, energy and professionalism shifted once she discovered I wouldn’t be. I felt from her bias behavior, she was more focused on ending the call. Overall, it was not a pleasant or professional experience for me and I would not want to be speaking with Ratunda again to discuss any possible returns to Devry University as a result.
Desired outcome: I would like for Ratunda to apologize for the dismissive treatment and possibly be retrained on how to properly address undergraduates if they are not registering right away.
Charging for partial tuition
This year I enrolled in classes. The very 1st week I decided this was not for me due to many issues I had going on personally. I contacted Devry who encouraged me to stick it out 1 more week just to make sure. They encouraged me to "just do a couple times of work" to confirm it wasn't for me.
I did this ALL based on Devry and my trusting the staff there. I was assured I would not be charged anything.
Come to find out, the minute you participate in ANY course and once it goes past the 1-week mark, you are responsible for 10% of the tuition.
I was mislead to stay 1 more week just to ensure I got to the 2-week mark and therefore have to pay fees.
Devry is responsible for the $344 dollars I currently show owing.
Desired outcome: Devry to cover the balance they say I owe.
Financial Aid
I have had nothing but issues since I started with DeVry University in Aug 2021. BEFORE I even enrolled, I had a long conversation with a lady named Carrie Hill and SEVERAL times in the conversation, I asked her over and over again that if my financial aid would be enough to cover my classes and after submitting my aid and waiting for the results, she called me back and said YES, with my schedule and how I am only taking 1 class a semester that my aid would be more than enough to cover. Well fast forward to TODAY, 4.29.22 my account is on registration hold because they say I owe them over 1500.00... I've have checked my aid time and time again and I should have a zero balance left over after everything is covered. I have been working in Accounting since I was 15 years old (I am now 35), none of this is adding up for me. I am only taking ONE class a semester. I have even provided screen shots showing how much I should have left over. NONE of this is making sense to me...
Desired outcome: I just want my account cleared up so that I can keep moving toward my education and graduate... and not have any more issues with my aid.

Professor John Murphy ETHC445
I had an assignment due on 3/27/22 that I had submitted. On 3/28/22 I signed into my course to check on my grades and noticed that the assignment I had submitted the night prior said that it was missing. Following this realization, I contacted my professor John Murphy of DeVry University on 3/28/2022 regarding this matter and explained how I was upset because I know that I had submitted it and it was an error in the system. On 3/29/2022 I receive an email back from professor John Murphy telling me how unprofessional I am and how if I wanted a career I need to be more professional, completely condescending in nature. Instead of doing as he agreed when becoming an educator, and assisting me with the issue. He then refused to open it up but had no problem writing a comment under it stating that i "claimed" to have submitted it. This is not the first time or the first course that I have had errors through fault of their system. This is unprofessional and no student paying as much as we have to pay to attend a college should have to do work that won't be submitted and then get penalized on behalf of a technological problem of the school. NO professor should talk to a student the way I was spoken too, regardless of how they are approached.
Desired outcome: I would like an apology and my work submitted as it was ORIGINALLY.
FASA/ Class Scheduling
I was enroll for one class but every semester they enroll me in two. My fasa credit was supposed to be disbursed last week an now I have to wait because of the school mistakes and I'm getting tired of it. I'm on the verge of dropping out of your college an find a different college that can get the things I ask for corrected. This is so unprofessional an maybe I need to contact the BBB.
Desired outcome: My credit
Financial aid
Before officially enrolling with devry, I went over my tuition and fees with an advisor. Acccordi G to the chart, I didn't need to take out any loans, received a 30% discount becuase of my employer and my fafsa would cover everything and I would be refunded about $1, 200.
A few weeks in now and I decided to look at my financial aid again.
I now owe $132 and the advisor told me my loans haven't been processed and will not be processed until after the 4th week of school.
financial aid not processed correctly and was never communicated to me.
I recently started school with DeVry University at the beginning of fall 2019 for the Medical coding and billing certificate program. At the beginning when i completed my FASFA i was informed by DeVry that i would be eligible for a grant through the government, a discount through my employer, one free class, and some credits that transferred over from my...

Paid over 50k for a degree that didn't benefit me at all. No placement help just a huge bill post grad. That was about 10 years ago. Still paying. Had to put loans in Forbearance for YEARS since I couldnt afford to pay them. Had no help with placement even though they told me they would assist with placements. They did nothing they daid theyd do. A total rip off. Pretty sure my fees were also incorrect. WAY more than they should have been.
operation support service
As January 7, 2019, I have been attempting to work with servers individuals at multiple locations to get a certification of education completed for IDFR, allowing me to sit for my nursing home Administrator exam. Five months, seven employees and $2000 later I still have not gotten this letter. I was told by the Chicago campus it was mailed which was a lie. It takes two to three days to receive a letter intercity. Then I was told I have to go through parchment ( who only completes transcripts which is not enough for the state). My concern was then transferred to a lovely lady in MERRILLVILLE who did her best but still no success. Then transferred back Naperville where I am again missing the deadline for the July 10 exam I will have to reapply again at the cost of $1000 which as a single mother I do not have. This change in salary is from 30, 000 annually to 100, 000. It's just not acceptable that this is able to be done and no one is held responsible. No reimbursement, nothing. I will not be able to possibly start my new career until 2020 if I ever get the paper due to staff at DeVry continuing to drop the ball and pass the blame onto someone else. As many people I have sent to this university I will never send anyone again. This is horrible !
financial issue
Hello,
This is Divya Dafda and i am keller graduate school of management at phoenix, Arizona. My Student ID is D40468406. My account is showing balance of $3182. I have been trying to reach out as many person as i can but i am not getting proper help from any of the DeVry staff. I ask my SSA about the balance and he told me its coming from may 2018 and i submitted all the receipts showing all the payments. After receiving receipts now he is saying this balance is coming from September 2016 and they came to know now. It is weird.
Another $750 is coming from july 2017. I am internationa student and i have to have one onsite class each semester. I always had problem with class avaibility. Half of the courses i didnt even wanted to take but still in order to stay in status i took it because they dont have classes available onsite. And i think that is not my problem. So in july 2017 they registred me for NETW 589 one week after classes started. I had contact my SSA Travis to enroll into this courses and was scheduled for it on July 7th (the end of week 1); therefore the class for this course had already began even before I got register. I first participate in class on July 9 I was worried that I wouldn't be able to get caught up with class due to the requirements and demands especially with a late start. The reason for me to withdraw this class was late registration. As an International student I am required to balance tuition in full, I am requesting that an additional $612 be credited to my account to be used toward future tuition charges. Perhaps not permitting me (or students) to enroll into classes late would have prevented this issue.
I have talked to dean as well and did not get help. Some of them did not even replied till today.
I hope you can understand my situation.
this school has told me nothing but consistent lies.
I have been lied to from the beginning this entire school is completely a joke. I would NEVER recommend. Ive been told so many time each semester that my financial aid is completely different than what the person before told me. They also will say they wont charge you out of pocket but that is a total lie! They have charged for me every single class out of pocket! Ive had to request a aid increase to maximum and still these people are asking for over a grand out of pocket. I have seriously had the worst experience with this school i will never return nor recommend ive had several friends enrolling into online college etc and i have just showed them several conversation with professors and the school and thankfully saved them the headache. Lets not leave out last semester a total of 8 WEEKS my professor NEVER responded not even one time! I google and you tubed the entire course when i had a question could never get any help!
class payment issues
I was told that I would not have to pay out of pocket and financial aid would take care of the cost of the 3rd class and now I am being charged for that class. I have contacted my assigned advisor that is listed on the canvas platform, she is either always busy and can't take my phone calls, she not in the office, or won't return my phone calls after I have left messages. Next I tried talking to another advisor who has extremely bad customer service. She acted as if I was bothering her by asking about my financial statements.
devry scam fraud change.org petition
DeVry University dismissed me from my Graduate program, when I had only 2 concentration courses remaining to graduate. I needed to retake them for a fail a withdraw from the year before. The Dean approved me to retake the courses, and the week they began, I received a dismissal via email. There was no other correspondence from the institution, as if I was unimportant, and never a student there. I received my Bachelors and invested quite a bit of VA money, and financial aid loans into this school.
The school has a policy to allow 3 retakes for every course, and I was well within my number of retakes for both classes. Little did I know the campus was shutting down, and DeVry was amidst an $80, 000, 000 class action suit. This is an unfair, cruel, for-profit business. Their job should be to ensure the success of all students. Their graduation rate is very low. There is no logical reason I was disallowed to retake those courses, after I was approved in writing to retake them. The school was dropping students like crazy at this time, for any reason they could find. I got a check for the class action suit for them false advertising students' ability to find work after graduation. It's 3 years later, and I am still pursuing a proper cause for the dismissal. I was so close to graduating within a few months.
Then I was faced with transferring to another nonprofit that did not accept most of my credits. I have gone immensely into loan debt taking the same courses over again at the new school. The Department of Education and FTC must be aware of how this school does business, and how they neglect the needs and success of their students. They offer no support, tutoring, or counseling when students are in trouble academically. They take what money they can, force you to teach yourself with online coursework, and throw you out- replacing you with another student.
They're very nice at first, getting you settled in, and having an open door policy. Then, the institution could care less for you, especially if financial aid is ten minutes late. This heartless institution offers very little education, is far more expensive than most public universities, tacks on an extra course before you graduate to help you transition out, and give you all kinds of heartache if you fail a course with a C grade for the Master's degree.

transcripts/student finance
It's important that people know of the horrible awful service I received as a devry student. When I transferred to devry I submitted all of my transcripts to my "enrollment counselor." after everything was submitted and reviewed I started classes. Halfway through my 3rd semester (Passing with straight a's) I realized that I was in a class that I felt like I had already taken at a previous junior college, I have my associates degree. I then decided to check my progress towards my bachelors and realized that my class credit was super low. After weeks of calling multiple times and dealing with multiple people I was told that my enrollment counselor forgot to submit my transcript with my associates degree! So here I was taking classes that I already had credit for. Devry told me that there was nothing else that they could do besides give me my money back or drop the class. I finished my final classes and decided to proceed with earning my degree elsewhere (Devry has yet to refund me my money and it has been 2-3 months). Now that I decided to transfer my new school showed that I couldn't get any financial aid for the upcoming semester due to having pending disbursements at devry. On march 14th I requested to have my disbursements cancelled. Today it is march 30th and still nothing has been cancelled. I have been talking to multiple people, calling almost every day of the business week.. And still nothing has been done.
scam
I want to change my career path, so I decided I wanted to get into Medical Coding.
I already have a fulltime job, so I have been looking at online schools that offer this so I can learn online on the weekends.
Although I get “replies” from these places, they seem to refuse point blank, to answer any of the questions about the school or the program classes I ask them. I keep getting automated replies from “recruiters” for the school but they never answer my questions, only send me another automated reply!
How does anybody take any of these programs, much less enroll into this place?
Are people really, REALLY that stupid as to just BLINDLY enroll in some apparent online scam?
I mean really, if these places cant even answer the most SIMPLE questions they are given, WHY would any sane person even bother with this “school”? That screams SCAM!
Any PROFESSIONAL and HONEST school would answer any questions you give them!
BEWARE of places like this!
education
I am thrilled to see the FTC and Consumer Affairs finally investigating the deceitful practices of DeVry University where I attended school. They lied to me from day 1. They indicated that I would have enough financial aid to graduate with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis on project management and make enough money to pay back my debts with no problems. I was told they would help me find a job in my field and I still do not have a job in my field 6 years later. I was lied to. Financial Aid ran out because their tuition costs were excessively higher than most colleges and they said too bad. I tried going to a local college that was cheaper to finish my 24 credits but I couldn't transfer my credits to a cheaper college so all I have to show for my years at DeVry is 24 credits short of a degree and $66, 000 in student debt.
I fully understand your struggle as I am going through it too. I graduated in 2012 but I had a lot of hoops to jump through. The enrollment contract I signed in 2005 stated a total price of $55, 365 for my BSBA. Shortly after my graduation in 2012 the Career Center at Devry University contacted me to offer aid in job placement, as they promise all enrolling students. They had found me a 20 hour a week, $9.00 an hour position. I turned the position down as I was currently working 40 hours a week, making $14.00 an hour with full benefits. I asked the Career Center to please let me know if they found anything meeting or exceeding my current situation. As of today I have never received a follow up contact. I consolidated my federal student loans in 2014, at which time the consolidated total was $72, 460.73. When I consolidated I applied for, and was granted, an Income Based Repayment plan that I must re-qualify for every year. My monthly payment is $170; since 2014 I have paid $4, 234.43 towards this loan. The current balance is now $75, 822.85; my payment does not cover the interest I am accruing every month, so my loan balance has increased. Until such a time as I can pay off the accrued interest and make a substantially larger monthly payment, this balance will continue to grow. In 2010 I was informed I was out of funding through the FAFSA program and had to take out a private loan through DeVry and their ECSI program. My loans through the DeVry ECSI Program totaled $13, 260.41 and currently have a payoff balance of $8, 949. I have paid back $5, 815.20 in interest alone since 2011. In total my loans amounted to $85, 721.14 (without interest), which is $30, 356.14 MORE than the stated amount of the enrollment contract. When interest is added to this equation I will be paying more than double the cost stated in the contract.
totally ripped off
I feel totally ripped off by DeVry! Completed an associates degree and still no job or contact by career services... Just $65k in goverment debt! I check their HireDeVry site for job listings and I uploaded a revised resume months ago that is still pending! I do not have the time to be on the phone with DeVry anymore. I have read several complaints on different sites, but no info on a class action against them.
not returning loan money
I enrolled to attend Devry in 2004 i attended class 1 day and had to withdrawal. I had to withdrawal due to my trucks brake system went out and i couldn't drive to school. I did exactly what they told me to do to withdrawal. I contacted the loan company which advised me the money was dispersed. So i called Devry and advised them to return the money. The person i spoke with said the money would be return. I've been going back and forth with Devry and the loan company for 11 years now. My loan went into default in 2013 because they claim they never received my deferment form. Ive been deferring this loan since 2004 and arguing. Now my taxes have been offset. How can i file a suit against Devry and this loan company. Department of Education is saying Devry only return half of the money. So where is the rest i didn't recwive nothing! Devry is saying they have no record of me every applying at the school? Lol someone help me. They are ripping people off. Im a single mom and now my taxes are gone. Im tired of arguing on the phone i need action.
false / misleading advertising
In 2008, I was searching for an ABET accredited, online Electrical/Electronics Technology Bachelor program. The only program I found that did not require me to travel to another state and spend 2 to 3 weeks do lab work was DeVry University. At the time they advertised that their online BEET program was ABET accredited. They had other programs that were listed as pending or 'onsite' only. When I was going through the registration process, I was asked why I chose DeVry. I expressed the need for an ABET accredited program, and I was welcomed. Two years later, I got a promotional email from DeVry announcing their reaccreditation with ABET, touting their onsite programs. There was no mention of the online programs, so I started searching their web site and could find no record of ANY online program being ABET accredited. The ABET accreditation was important for the ability to take a masters program in engineering, all of which required a bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited program. Now, I am $50, 000 in debt with no degree and none of my classes are transferrable to an accredited university. The local DeVry campus doesn't even offer the degree program I was working toward, so I can't transfer there, even if I didn't already have a full time job.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
scam / fraud / lie
Keller represents everything evil, fake, and greedy that corporate, capitalistic America has become. The Keller recruiters will tell you their accredited. What they won't tell you is that they're not accredited by the AACSB- one of the single most important factors in being eligible to be hired for a job with your MBA degree. The MBA that Keller Graduate School of Management (DeVry) issued to me was worth $45, 000 to them but nothing to me. I graduated with a 3.75 GPA and distinction whatever the hell that means- and got a worthless piece of paper that says MBA on it. It's been 2 years since graduating and I have yet to be hired by a company wanting to utilize me for the MBA I earned at Keller. Even the military won't take me into their career field for administration or management- because they required MBA holders to have earned their MBA with an AACSB accredited school. I admit I should've done my research before enrolling at Keller/DeVry, but that doesn't make me less of a victim. All I heard from the school was how after graduation, they guaranteed I would find a job- how they would help with the job search-- all of it turned out to be lies. For the 2 years I went to Keller earning my now worthless-MBA, I would've been better off applying for menial low paying jobs or going to a community college... which essentially is what I'm doing now. Keller recruiters make you believe you'll be taking 3 steps forward with their "fake education" when in actuality, you will be back to point A and worse off with $45, 000 in student debt and jobless. I'm 28 years old and this is my American story.
Don Tarr, thanks for the troll-ing clarification. You have a point, but that's not what matters in my story, you idiot.
