On 5/5/24 eHarmony fraudulently charged my Discover credit card $197.70 for a premium dating service ($790.80 a year in 4 payments). I never signed up for this service, it was a fraudulent charge. Plus I had a girlfriend at the time and no need for a premium dating service. I contacted Discover and initially they removed the charge. I had had a bothersome $16.25 monthly charge from some book club I never signed up for that Discover never seem to fix. So with eHarmony charge and the hassle trying to cancel fraudulent charge -- I paid off my balance and just cancelled the card. Then on 15 June 24, I got a bill from Discover (account closed) for $364.68 which included charges which came in after I closed the card plus the $197.70 fraudulent eharmony charge they put back on my account. To make matters worse Discovery liquidated my 100K mileage reward balance ($941.12) to pay this balance. Discover violated several provisions of the Federal Fair Credit Billing Act in what they did. There are provisions in the act to protect consumers from credit card company fraud (supply notifications, supply vender paperwork, allow for consumer to supply paperwork, paperwork for appeal) which Discover didn't do. And it seems illegal to me that they could liquidate my mileage awards account to pay these fraudulent charges and keep the balance (my money $576.44) which they claim they are holding until an investigation is completed (I was told it may be a week, a month or up to a year.) This has got to be illegal -- it's my money! People should avoid Discover and their illegal practices entirely!
Claimed loss: Right now $197.70 plus Discover is holding $576.44 of my funds illegally -- which I might never see for a year or more.
Desired outcome: I want my $197.70 refunded (eharmony fraudulent charge Discover paid). Plus the $576.44 of my money back that Discover is illegally holding.
