Auto Play / Continue Watching BIG FAILS
No way to turn off auto play. Which on its own would be confusing and annoying but still minor. Problem is, it decides to move on to a (big surprise) Discovery+ original show even though there are more episodes in the season and more seasons of the show I was watching. Still wouldn’t be so bad if there were a way to remove a complete show from Continue Watching. But there’s not. I’ve seen Developer Responses to this issue in other reviews. I’m not talking a stray episode here and there, I mean entire seasons of unwanted episodes. Am I really expected to fast forward through all of them just to clear them out of a list they never should have belonged in? Where they are obscuring episodes I really DO want to continue watching? I can only assume that the intent is to inflate the “viewing” numbers for the shadow promoted shows. And don’t bother telling me that you’ll pass my feedback to the development team. I was a developer for many years. They’re workers taking orders, they don’t make decisions. This exact complaint exists in reviews more than a year old and very recent. It’s quite clear that Discovery+ has no intention of correcting this “problem”. Since from their perspective, it’s a valuable marketing tool. I’ll keep my subscription because of the excellent content. And I’ll keep hoping that your merge with HBO changes your perspective on customer satisfaction and making apps that actually work as the customer wants them to.
Love the shows - Hate the app
I stayed up to midnight on the day that Discovery+ launched because I was so excited to see the new streaming service. I love so many of the discovery+ shows. Unfortunately, the app has been so frustrating for me that I stopped watching for awhile. While there are many deficiencies in the app, my top 3 issues are the following: 1 - when one episode of a series ends, it immediately starts playing the next episode. Please give me the option to turn this off. Every other streaming service lets me decide whether or not I want this to happen. Yes, I know I can select x and cancel this from happening, but I am not always holding my device when I am watching, so I have to stop what I am doing and frantically grab my iPad to stop the next episode. 2 - It takes way to long to find new episodes of shows on my list. I have to select every show, navigate to episodes, switch to seasons, scroll to the last season, and then see if there are any new episodes. Give me a badge indicator or something so it doesn’t take so long to find new new episodes. I have resorted to using a third party solution to fix this. 3 - I watch almost exclusively Food Network and HGTV shows, however my Home Screen is filled with recommendations for shows from the other networks in which I have ZERO interest. I know that these other networks/shows exist. If I suddenly have a change of personality, I can browse and find them. I would rather have recommendations for shows that I might actually watch.
So much for your money!
So I saw an ad for this on TikTok and I clicked in just to see what this streaming service had to offer and I was hooked right away. It’s $4.99 a month, $6.99 (what I went for) if you want to get ad free so it’s already way way cheaper then a lot of other platforms. But get this, Discovery originals, HGTV, Food Network, TLC, investigation discovery, own network, animal planet, discovery channel, planet earth, Travel Channel, A&E, history, lifetime, science channel, DIY network, cooking channel, Destination America, AHC and discovery life. That’s property brothers, love it or list it, All of the house hunters spin-offs, all the Guy Fieri shows, chopped, cutthroat kitchen, ace of cakes, cake boss and numerous cooking shows. There’s also all of the 90 day fiancé spinoffs, say yes to the dress and everything else TLC, ghost hunters, numerous paranormal shows and true crime documentaries, Oprah‘s master classes and interviews, deadliest catch, River monsters, expedition unknown, pretty much any survival show, an up and coming rustic do it yourself channel called magnolia network, mythBusters, numerous beautiful earth documentaries, finding Bigfoot, ghost hunters, hoarders, ancient aliens, every single pawn show! Dance moms, escaping polygamy, how it’s made, every renovation show, every salvage show and last but not least Dr. pimple popper. Those are just the ones I watch, there are so many different shows on here it’s unbelievable! Why would you ever need cable? I’m just so pleased wow bless this app
Freezes a lot
I love the program. I’ve only had Hulu and Netflix for the past few years and have watched everything and needed more. I’ve downloaded other free programs and nothing good on them. I decided to pay for this and it’s cheap. I’m glad I have it because it has great shows, great content, I love all the docus, paranormal, reality shows and real life accounts of hauntings and serial killers because I’ve watched all of those on the other programs and ran out of things to watch so this is refreshing. BUT the app freezes SO much, I’m a tech person, actually certified in technology and almost every commercial the app freezes and I have to go out and back in which takes several minutes, then other times it will just shut out in the middle of an episode and go out to the profile page and this isn’t after watching for several hours, its starts in 15 minutes after turning it on and it’s not my tv or internet because it’s the only program that does that. It does it like every 15-30 minutes which is a lot of glitching and inconvenience. Also the way the app is set up is odd, like showing every single episode in “what I’m watching”. I suggest just show the show I’m watching, not the episode, and once I click on it, just start it from where I left off, like the other competitors, if it’s not broken don’t fix it, don’t make things complicated trying to be different, it can hurt y’all more than help y’all, people like efficient and quickness, not complicated just to be “different”. That’s my only complaint, fix that and y’all will be up to par with Netflix and Hulu.
Picture in Picture Still Unavailable…
Why?! Why, after all this time and multiple updates, is Picture in Picture not a feature of this app? Every other streaming service offers this (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Paramount+, Disney+, etc.), why not Discovery+? Too many times I’ll open this app, only to remember it doesn’t offer the PIP feature. So, I’ll switch to a different app that does. Want to know what would encourage me to use this app more often? The PIP feature. I have other things to do, and most people don’t have the ability or desire to forfeit their phones or tablets to *onlywatch a show - especially when away from home or living in a family environment. To watch Discovery+ while corresponding/working/playing a game, you have to have multiple devices at your disposal, it’s ridiculous. Those of us living with children, adult children, spouses, roommates, siblings, etc. - we have to share certain devices and/or spaces in the home (and bandwidth). It is unrealistic and rude to monopolize two to three different devices simultaneously in the same home. In this economy/housing market, multi-generational families are becoming the norm. PIP gives you the ability to watch the show *youwant, while playing a game and/or working on the same device, all while keeping the sound on your own AirPods. Instead of competing for devices, bandwidth, physical space, and sound space - this helps creates harmony. “Love the app? Let us know.” So, this is a review of the app and its features and functionality, nothing more. Answer, at this point in time, it is one of the worst streaming apps out there.
Loving it!
I am in my week trial and have been watching this more than anything else, if anything else. So far I am really enjoying all the shows I have watched, although, I have to say I am very disappointed that I am seeing quite a few old shows that I have already watched on cable. I was hoping to get away from seeing reruns over and over. Some I have seen numerous times, so I really hope there is not too much of this, as it is not worth paying to see the same thing repeatedly. I am ready to give up cable and use apps to watch better programming I hope! Also, it’s amazing all the content and so ma y different types of programs. Recently I added favorites on Hulu, but those are all in this app, so I may consider cancelling Hulu. One thing I wish was different, some shows start with series 4, so you don’t get to see what was in the first 3 series and episodes. I wish there was a way to be able to start at the first series and catch up. but so far, I really love this app, and bye bye dishtv. Update: I have been trying to airplay from my iPad to my tv and it disconnects constantly. Other apps don’t do this. I will be watching something and here comes a black screen and when I check the app, it states, oop’s something went wrong and I have the option to try again or close the app. It is very annoying. Also, it takes you back to the beginning, so you keep starting over until you get frustrated and close the app and move on to a different app. I do have another app now that has most of the shows that I watch now. So I may have to move on from this app unfortunately.
content
i’m surprised that people who watch the ID aren’t complaining about the content. you mark shows as new yet you literally recycle the same stories on different programs under the iD channel. pretty sad when the program for killer attraction new as of 3/4/23 per you and before it gets into the story i know already know it cause it was on another show. i’ve contacted them and couldn’t get a straight answer but was
begged to give my email so they could look me up… why do i need looked up if i’m complaining on the fact you’re literally lying to paying customers? i could never get a straight answer out of them. i first used this via prime and found out you couldn’t complain because it was
through prime so i cancelled it and
got the app and then was told i couldn’t complain to anyone but the app store. never in my
life have i seen a company dodge people the way this one does. i already pay via my cable and
now i’m paying for this and it’s not even new material. they never did answer my question as to why they do this and think customers are too stupid to realize and that’s another issue with me. i don’t ask for much but i sure as heck am paying a ton for repeats. what’s the point at some point in time? terrible customer service which i’m sure isn’t even customer service it’s just “support” you wouldn’t have a streaming service if it wasn’t for us yet your basically lying and dodging direct questions and then pushing the blame now onto the app store. last i checked the app store isn’t the company shooting and putting the content out there. you’ve lost a customer at this point for being shady, wasting my
money, and then not providing actual new content just the same story on different series . pathetic as all
get out
Would love to give this 5/ 5
I started out at the lower end $4.99 which is a good deal. The catalog is great. The issues I have is getting to actually watch shows on the app which is the whole point. I have a hard time getting them started sometimes with the white circle spinning on black for minutes at a times when trying to start a show. I close it out, start again. Same thing. Do that 6 plus times until I give up try later. So I basically, do not get to watch when I want to. Then I get finally get a show going and it will buffer & stop & spin circle & play a little more then spin circle. It’s frustrating. I would love to be able to hop on here & just be able to load a show no problems & no interruptions. Then the final issue will be the quality of the screen. It will be blurry as heck & sometimes it will teeter into clear screen then into blurry but it will go long segments of blurry & if there is writing on the screen I can’t read it, I have rewind it until the app decides it wants to break into a clear patch, then I’ll be able to see or read that particular scene. I thought it was blurry on purpose as Discoveryplus’s way of trying to make us go to the $6.99 no ad version, and it worked for me, lol!so I upgraded. But it didn’t fix the blurry ness of the screen going in and out so now I know that wasn’t the catch. One other issue is I use CC Closed Captions & it’s easy to put on & it only gives me option up there for English, I wouldn’t even know how to get it other languages and one day it just started using French when I turned it on & it still was on English. I’m hard of hearing in one ear… so with blurry-ness, buffering & now not being able to read CC in my language, oh man. My other apps like Netflix, etc don’t have these issues really.so I know it’s not my internet, it runs fast. If those issues could be worked on. That would be beautiful. Thank you.
Great Content Crappy App
Update: You guys have got to figure out the glitches in your app. This is ridiculous. I can’t even watch what I want to watch because of lag and crashing. I haven’t watched in weeks because of it so I thought I’d get back in and try. Won’t load then has crashed 4 times.
Let me first say I LOVE D+. I’m on it most of the time and rarely watch anything else. There are so many shows and movies to watch, I never get bored. I’m a paranormal and crime nut and I haven’t run out of new shows yet and I’ve had the app since it launched. It’s def worth the money if you watch the channel Discovery a lot. They have a huge playlist. With all that said, I’d love to give this app 5 stars, but I took 2 stars off because the app crashes constantly. It will either crash all together and restart itself or I have to back out of it and force stop it in settings. If I get my show to play it will either play the sound with a black screen or just sit there on a black screen until I go back to the page before or until I have to force stop it. This new, link your profile feature, never works either. It has you click on it every time I open the app up, but makes you do the same thing every time and never actually links your profile to the opening page. I will be in the middle of a show and it just crashes. The app also buffers quite a bit. I’d say maybe the problem is on my end, but I don’t have any problems with any other streaming app that I use. There are so many bugs I can’t begin to remember it all. I can say though, even with all the bugs, I still use the app because it has my type of content. So the, “rarely watch anything else” comment, I get frustrated and go to watch something else when the app messes up a bunch in a row. Most of the time that’s why I end up on another app. BUT we still pay for it, so obviously it’s not so bad that I have canceled our membership. Lol
Really good selection, not a great video player
I’ve overall enjoyed using this app, mainly to get caught up with Battlebots, but I’ve got a few gripes when comparing the app to other streaming apps, especially when many of these apps have had these features for so long that they’re pretty much standard by this point.
1: No browsing while watching. My biggest issue is that with this app, if you want to view selections, search for another show, or use any of the other features in this app, the episode will stop streaming until you’re back on the page for it. This is extremely annoying to deal with.
2: No “PIP” (picture-in-picture) mode. Not only can you not use other parts of the app, you can’t use other apps either. This is a feature that is standard with almost all apps on iphone, and a lack of this feature has me believing that it’s purposely being disabled, similar to how youtube has locked the feature behind a paywall. I often will find myself responding to a text, then not even returning to the app for some time because my immersion with what i was watching was completely lost.
3: The video pauses EVERY TIME you switch from portrait to landscape. Really gets on your nerves when watching in bed, on the go.
4: No scrubbing. If i’ve already seen part of an episode, or I’d like to skip a section, on almost every other streaming app you can “scrub” by moving the time-bar, and hold it there. It’ll either show you a small picture, or the screen will update to show you where you are before you release it. There is no preview at all. This is annoying because if i skipped over an ad break, it immediately plays the ad, and then I get to see if i got to the right part. Then if i didn’t, and I have to skip over ANOTHER ad break, then now i’m watching 3 minutes of commercials and i’m STILL not even sure if i’ve got the right part of the episode.
Overall, it’s still a good application, but the amount of features it’s missing have been frustrating.
Improve convenience/Viewer settings
When you are watching a particular show, it would be beneficial if the viewer was able to see all the episodes of that season or collection. As of now, if I'm watching Beat Bobby Flay, and I want to see a previous episode, I have to go out of the show itself, go to the "search" option, and search for that same show just to see all of the different seasons/episodes available. It is inconvenient and other platforms such as Amazon Prime and Netflix allow you to click a drop-down arrow from the show's screen itself and view all seasons and each episode within those seasons. This is really convenient and something Discovery+ should offer.
Lastly, my chief complaint with all platforms are the advertisements of new/hot shows - often, they are really inappropriate and it is my belief that shows like that shouldn't take up a third of my screen against my will. I know it sounds extreme, but I have little children and I don't watch anything too inappropriate - mostly cooking shows - so there shouldn't be a huge advertisement for weed or even for Naked and Afraid with naked people taking up a third of my screen. While I understand different viewers can have different profiles, it doesn't change the fact that young, impressionable children will see these huge advertisements when their mom is trying to just watch a cooking show. I understand that advertising is completely necessary, but I feel that viewers should be able to set a max rating for those advertisements in "settings". Most people
won't care, I'm sure, but for those like myself, it'd be wonderful to be able to have some control over what's being projected into the home. Almost like online, how you can click "stop seeing this ad" - "why?" - "it's inappropriate" or "I'm not interested in the content".
I think it would also provide immediate feedback to Discovery+ about what viewers really want and don't want immediately provided for their platform/network.
Thanks!
Not Enough New Content!
Another show I have to record on Xfinity is Vacation House Rules as the new season is not available o Discovery+.
Also, I was just browsing through the app and saw that on 6/17 a new season of Making Modern with Brook & Brice started however it’s not listed under new episodes anywhere. I just happened to go and look at the show and saw that a new season had just started. I don’t know how anyone else will know to watch it if it’s not listed under new episodes. I checked under Discover+, Magnolia, and HGTV. I stopped looking at “New Episodes This Week” under “for you” tab because it wasn’t being updated and just shows the same shows sometimes even if there wasn’t a new episode this week. So I have been having to go under each networks names and looking at new episodes under those. It would be nice to have more consistency and for “under new episodes this week” under “for you” to show the actual new episode on this week and not just cover titles for shows that don’t say episodes or season numbers.
I signed up and started paying for this app the day it became available (without commercials) and at first new episodes were coming out often and usually the shows I watched were available first on the app before they were available on cable TV but now, there’s at least two shows that I have to record on my DVR using Xfinity and I have to fast forward through commercials and they aren’t even available on the app yet! One of them is The Secret of Skinwalker Ranch and today I saw on Xfinity that UFO Witness is staring a new season on June 21st and there’s nothing about it on the Discovery+ app! It’s happened with other shows in the last as well, I just can’t think of them at the moment. I mostly watch paranormal and home reno/design type reality TV shows (HGTV & Travel Channels) and there just aren’t enough new episodes coming out on a regular basis. I really hope this will change very soon or else there won’t be a need for me to pay for this app in addition to Xfinity TV!
Some very annoying “features”
We like the discovery service for the most part, but the app has some very annoying qualities that make it a pain to navigate.
First- Most of the suggested shows are things I have no interest in, have never watched and have no desire to watch. Making it hard to actually search and find the shows I do actually want to watch.
Second, you can’t turn off the auto play feature. Why is this a problem you ask? Because after I finish the last episode of a show, the app automatically starts playing the first episode of the first season, which means I don’t automatically get notified and start any new episodes when they are released because the app only tries to “continue” the old episode it started playing without my permission. It also has a bad habit of auto playing completely unrelated shows that have nothing to do with the show I just finished, which is greatly annoying and it clutters my “continue” to watch list.
Which brings me to the biggest complaint I have: you can’t edit or remove anything from the continue list. Which means if you start a show and hate it, or if the app starts to auto play something stupid without asking (it actually happens a LOT), then it’s stuck cluttering up my continue to watch list for all eternity, or until the app decides to take it off. The “continue” list also seems to be slowly moving down the page, meaning I have to scroll down past more and more crap I don’t care about to find the shows I want to watch.
This, on top of reason one above, means that actually finding the shows I am currently watching and want to watch is a hassle. I can’t just open the app and continue something in a few clicks, I have click and scroll and actually hunt for the content I’m interested in seeing. It’s dumb, and annoying, and for the amount of shows on this channel I actually watch, makes me think I might be better off spending my subscription money of just buying the seasons on iTunes. More money in the long run? Probably. But it simplifies things and avoids frustration, which is worth it to me.
I care about my privacy - do YOU?!?
The vast majority of people have no clue WHAT 'privacy' is, nor how valuable - both to YOU AND 'them' (business and depending upon where you're at... governments) privacy - and the lack of it is.
Wars have been fought over the rights of privacy. Whole countries freely spy on its citizens.
Others... well, it's not the government doing it, it's advertisers, and they're making Z MONEY off YOU.
EVEN when you pay, and supposedly 'buy'am app, it's NOT THE SAME as burying shoes, for example.
With an app, you don't 'own' it outright, your only leasing to use it (and they're free to change their ToS - terms of service, or in non-Orwellian - what they can and can't do.
You pay,, and they STILL will make money off of YOU! You pay, and they can STILL do whatever THEY WANT!
(I highly recommend everyone see Terms and Conditions May Apply, a documentary which explains in straight-forward English just what you get in this app-world. I've NOTHING to do with the documentary)
This is what THIS app says about what they can TAKE from you (AFTER you've given them money);
Data linked to you;

They CAN (and DO!) 'sift' through those indecipherable (to humans, that is) and are able to backtrack through this and funds it WHO YOU ARE!
There's NOTHING in this world so important to me that I'm willing to freely surrender my privacy (for those who've read this far, I use temp emails and many other methods of... scrambling me - even here. BTW; I DON'T use ANY 'social media'. People who need me, know how to reach me, and in spite of what others might say, those 'followers' anyone of you has is NOTHING compared to real flesh and blood friends. Nothing).
So, I've just given a diatribe on privacy, what about this thing?
As I've said, nothing is important enough for me (and SHOULD be for YOU) to give the 'keys' away to your life.
Is there anything here I like to watch? Perhaps. But it's still ephemera - it's still nothing which will do anything other than fill some time I might otherwise be reading a book, or alking with someone I know. It won't many ANY impact on my life, and I'd never be foolish to watch so-called 'realty' TV, or these 'recreations'. It's as bad for you s sugar is.
Discovery keeps saying they’ll fix it but they don’t
FOR YEARS, many of us subscribers have been asking Discovery to bring in 2 very basic and straight forward features. The first is to be able to turn off auto-play completely. The second is to take episodes or even seasons of shows or full shows off of our watch list. The sad this is, until now, it has still not yet been fixed. The solution is simple. Put a settings page in the app, and put an auto play on”on toggle switch the actually turns off auto play completely and permanently. And when and if the user selects to turn auto play back on, then the auto play feature turns back on. Simple. The second option on the settings page would be the Watched list, were you can select any and ALL episodes you have not watched and take them off that list. Simple. Both of these fixes should have been done FOREVER ago! I have sent in this request MULTIPLE times throughout the years. They still have not fixed this. Because of this, I simply cannot recommend this app. In fact, I will say to stay away from it. Yes, there is some decent content here. Unfortunately, this app and it’s developers simply do not care about the users. And it’s blatantly clear. Many of us have been say to stop this ridiculousness of pushing auto play that cannot be turned off on us. They still have not fixed it, and at this point, I’m highly confident they won’t. We have PLEADED countless times for them to put these 2 very simple but 2 very essential features in. But for some reason, they can’t do it. And I see no reason why that is. It’s the nost annoying thing. Especially if you are OCD and like knowing that the show and episodes you chose to watch are the only ones being played. But nope. Discovery has taken it upon themselves to dictate what you watch when you have no way of doing so yourself. So do yourself a favor and maybe don’t download this app. Maybe don’t even subscribe. Because you’ll just be in for some annoying problems with this app not loading the shows you want to watch and loading random things. Again, it’s a simple fix, just give us the option to turn off auto play manually without having to use the player. Also, even IF you do press on the “do not continue” button on the player, it STILL ops to play the next episode. So again, give us that option. It’s a plain and simple solution so that we can be appeased of and relieved of the situation at hand. 2 simple things that would make this app and platform AMAZING! Just let us turn off auto play, and let us take shows off of our watched list/watched history. 2 very simple things that we have asked for for years. Please!
Interface Needs Work/Popular Shows Missing
This could be a 5 star app; however, it’s being held back by several issues. The first is the interface - you can save lots of shows as your “likes”; however, there is no way, or notification, to know when new episodes post for your specific liked shows, there is only a generic section titled “New Episodes” that may or may not be relevant to what you have added to your list, which, if it shows up on there, you have to catch before the “New Episode” section updates, so basically, you have to search through everything in your list manually to find the latest, if you can even figure out what’s the latest, because they do not list air dates for any show (?). How hard is it to add a banner that says “new episode” to a show’s home page or the aired date like every other streaming service in the world, so you can just go to your liked section and see what is new for all the shows you actually want to watch? There is also no consistency as to when they upload a recently aired show. Second, why would you not stream some of the most popular shows on some of the most popular channels (ie Curse of Oak Island, etc.)? Seems like it would be better to save your money on this, use the money to subscribe to the live channel on another platform and DVR current programming. Unless you want to watch old programming and have time to look through your liked shows on a ongoing basis to try to find if/when a new episode posts, this service may be frustrating and fall short of providing what you actually want to watch. And now, new annoying feature, closed captioning comes on as default on EVERY new episode that plays, even on autoplay, so you have to turn it off EVERY time. Yes, my app and Apple TV is up to date, yes, my Apple TV and TV defaults are set to no closed captioning, yes, the app has been uninstalled and reinstalled and no, no other app on my Apple TV does this. In response to developer: 1. I realize, as I said, you have a “new episode” section on the opening page; however, I do not want to search through shows I don’t watch to hopefully “catch” the notification for new episodes of shows I do watch. You already have a favorites area, it would be much easier for your users if you’d add a new episode flag on the shows they do watch. 2. It’s great you added the series and episode numbers, but the “air date” “found near the episode number and title” is actually below the episode description, and it may be the date you posted it to your service, or it may be the actual date it aired on live tv, but is inconsistent at best, so who knows. Look for example at Queer Eye, S1E1 and all other series and episodes, they all list 1/25/22 as the “air date”, which must be the date you put it on your platform; however, it aired live sometime back in 2003. Then look at Oddities, S1E3 12/15/10, S1E4 1/12 (a year after the previous episode?), S1E5 12/22/10 (then back again a year before?). Even though they skip around, these are closer to live air dates. So, as I said, who knows. Is a “new episode” new to your app or “new” as it recently aired on live tv? One can only tell from the “air dates”, which as you can see, are very confusing and not consistently applied. 3. There are many negative reviews about this recently implemented closed captioning that comes on when EVERY episode plays (including during auto play), I don’t see how me troubleshooting what appears not to be an isolated issue to anyone but Discovery+ will help.
discovery+ | Stream TV Shows Complaints 12
App improvements and content
It’s hard to search on the app. When playing the video and you move the phone so the screen changes the video stops and I have to press play again. Very annoying. I know this isn’t Netflix but their app is awesome. Discover+ has a long way to go to be competitive with Netflix and the ease of using the app on different devices.
Also, where are all the 90s and early 2000s shows. Are they not adapted to stream? Please work on that. Current shows do not have the quality as discovery once had. Everything is forced drama. I got this app for shark week and you just hold current material. There are so many good shows discovery has that parents would love to keep showing their kids. Big untapped audience. This site would be AMAZING if you could include older content. Both old school and new school audiences will have a place on this app. I use discovery+ the least of all my streaming because I hate all the new shows that focus on peoples personal problems and not passing along information like discovery once did. Thank you.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Please Adjust the now-playing options
My biggest con is how the app works when you are playing a show and casting it to your TV. There’s no “now showing” menu option so I often get lost because I’m also browsing other things on my phone. That means pausing or stopping is very difficult.
This is even more annoying when it is set to automatically play next, but if there are no newer episodes of that show it defaults to the same brother vs brother season 1 episode 1 show. Over and over. Then there is some lag between pausing the show and stopping casting (just hitting stop casting doesn’t automatically pause the episode like most other apps)
The algorithm on the featured programming seems a little off— for example tonight was premier of battle on the beach on HGTV. Lots of ads on Facebook for it. But when I go to the discovery + app it’s not on the Home Screen of featured programs or on the HGTV feature programs. I had to manually search for the show.
I’d also like it to be more clear when I’ve already watched a show.
Otherwise I love the concept of having some of my favorite networks and programs available in one app.

Very hard to use app
Love the content HATE the app.
Shows with new episodes aren’t flagged so you have to click on EVERY.SINGLE.SHOW to see if there are new episodes.
There’s no indicator that you’ve watched a show so you can easily know where to pick up where you left off.
It’s difficult to get to show and episode details without actually playing the actual episode.
You can’t search a specific network.
WHY WHY WHY are there shows so old and no longer offering new episodes? We saw them already on cable. That’s just CLUTTER.
And WHY are shows repeated over and over again on different networks?
And last but not least, most of the content in there is old shows everyone’s already viewed and a repeat of what’s available elsewhere at no extra charge. The new shows only have one episode to watch. I’ve watched everything new. Get new content or it’s not worth paying for it. If you just have a bunch of old shows or shows currently airing on cable, why do I need to pay extra for discovery?
If you want this to be a serious contender to cable TV AND YOU WANT US TO PAY FOR IT, you have to offer the same functionality as on our other streaming apps.

Pixilation plus!
We have this app on our smart tv, and find that the App is awful! Pixilation comes and goes, makes it almost impossible to view. No way to mark “favorites”, etc. Transmission “hangs”, picture quality is awful. Very cumbersome to find shows. This app is not ready for prime time. We may have to unsubscribe for several of these reasons. Much better to be able to DVR shows so that one does not miss episodes. This streaming business is horrible.
Also, when watching cooking shows, there is nowhere to go to get the printed recipes. Useless to have to stop the playback to write down y’en instruction can/ingredients. There needs to be a website where we can find recipes and other things of interest for the shows.
We truly hate the “streaming” idea, much better to have the DVR situation. That way you don’t miss your shows.
We pay a premium to get some networks from our cable provider (about $200 per month), and to just get a few new shows, we have to pay more. Rip-off.
There is also no way to find shows that are reruns as opposed to originals. We have watched all the shows we care about on Foodnetwork, HGTV, etc. Just would like a way to easily find new shows

Glitchy app but like the content
This app is extremely frustrating. It’s constantly buffering when I’m trying to watch something on my smart TV and I’ve confirmed it’s not my internet connection. Other streaming platforms like Netflix and Prime don’t have this issue. Additionally, the app often doesn’t save my place if I’ve only watched a portion of a show and come back later. I go to continue the episode and it shows I’m only 3 minutes into the show even if I had watched 30min. The app also regularly freezes and gives an error message when trying to start the next episode automatically. You have to click “try again” a couple of times before it works. I think the interface is also not great compared to other platforms. For example, there’s no easy way to see when a show on your list has a new episode- you have to manually go to My List and scroll through each individual show which is pretty inefficient. I will also note I’ve reported these issues before and Discovery + support attempted to help, but the handful of suggestions they gave didn’t change anything. I really like the content so I’ll keep my subscription for now, but I really hope they are working on improving it significantly. From the other reviews it seems that other people have similar struggles with this app.

THEY DONT EVEN OFFER THE LATEST EPISODE OF 90 DAY FIANCÉ!
It’s ok I suppose. There’s a whole lot of useless fluff in this app and not much on current episodes of certain shows. I won’t be renewing. It’s not easy to navigate. Once you start a show the now playing screen disappears and when you try to go back to it another random show will come on. If you try to backtrack on the show it will often times not only kick you out of the show altogether, but when/if you locate it again you will have to start all over. You can’t find the latest episode of things easily. It freezes up often when casting to my television yet nothing else from my phone does. I have an iPhoneX so I know my phone isn’t outdated and I have a new smart TV as well. I suppose if you don’t have cable it might be worth it, but if you can think of ANYTHING AT ALL that you could buy to occupy your time other than this app I’d go with that. A new broom to sweep your floor would be more entertaining. ♀️.
EDIT: after missing 2/21’s episode of 90DayFiance,I attempted to catch it on the discovery app that I actually paid money for AND ITS NOT THERE! It’s 2 days later, this show is the entire reason I even paid for this crap app. I can’t find it replaying on cable and I can’t watch it on the app I bought. How does this make sense?

App won’t work on several devices after updating
I’m really frustrated! I started using the app at the start of January, and it worked perfectly fine on two devices - my FireStick and LG smart TV. The LG tv is the main device I use. I think I’ve used the app almost every day since downloading. I opened the app yesterday, 1/18, and got a message saying there was an update, so I installed it and tried launching the app. The Discovery+ logo popped up on the screen and stayed there…the app wouldn’t go any further. I turned my tv off, waited a few minutes, and turned it on to try again. Same thing - just a frozen screen with the logo. I gave up and decided to try again today, thinking it just needed some time. Nope. It will not work. I even deleted the app and reinstalled it…nothing! I decided to then check my account to see if there was anything I could do. I signed in on my phone’s browser and was then prompted to download the app, so I did. I got all the way through the process and when I attempted to launch it on my iPhone, I got a message saying it’s not available in my area! What?! It still won’t work on my TV. What’s going on? I was a very happy customer (I love the selection of channels and programs from Discovery+) and now I’m the complete opposite. Please provide an update and/or solution.

I wish they would fix their issues
I don’t know what it is with this streaming site, but I seem to have issues with them all the time. I will watch multiple episodes of a show and the close the app or leave the web page for the night, when I come back to the main page, it will tell me I have episodes I watched and finished in my to be continued section. Then with just the app, all the shows start mute in the beginning and it either comes on in a minute or I have to rewind for it to kick in. Now the subtitles come on every episode, even though I just turned them off on the previous episode and every setting on my AppleTV says no subtitles. Also, at first the subtitles were set to Automatic (Recommended), but when I deleted and reinstalled the app for the probably 20th time since signing up, now the subtitles turn on at English, no longer the automatic option and unless I’ve missed an option somewhere I can’t get them to just stay off. I have no problems when any of the other streaming apps and I pretty much have them all. This is the only one that has been a headache since I got it. If it wasn’t for some of the shows, I would of canceled it the 1st day…. Forgot to add, that episodes will go in an out of being clear to fuzzy pictures, when watching and again it’s the only streaming services that does it.

20 plus years loving discovery but…
I buy and have paid for Discovery for year now and killed my cable service. Yet a year or so ago things changed on discovery, I love all the Home shows and the Paranormal show but little by little they have been cancelled. I have waited for new shows but nothing. One of our older shows has started again but we are afraid like other we have seen there will be 6 or 8 episodes and then it will be over. At one point Discovery was the only streaming channel we would watch after work. But now we find nothing that gets our interest on discovery except a home show once in a while. If nothing changes soon I don’t see why to keep paying for something we do t watch anymore. Thought a while back we heard someone new took over and if that was true it seems they have put their personal interests into what is put on and not what people like to watch. I see group chats all the time about the same thing I am writing to you about now and how people are turning to other stations to find what they want. Maybe my voice won’t be heard or matter but Discover was the first streaming channel I did and never thought I would ever cancel it and it’s will be sad if they don’t hear us. I paid for the top package and would again if things would change. If nothing changes by June 2023 I will cancel.

Content is fine but UX is NOT
If I were to cancel an app, it would be this one- hands down. Paying top rate for a no commercials plan is alright if the UX is great *andthe content is good. But, expecting anyone to pay for an app that pauses when they turn their phone is incredibly irritating.*** When comparing Discovery+ with other streaming competitors, it’s hard to understand why this hasn’t been fixed. Now, I turn my attention to the lack of PiP. *It’s frankly unacceptable in 2022.As an early subscriber, I figured it would be in the very next update after the app was released. But no. It’s been a LONG time. And still, there is no PiP. How is this possible? At this point, one can only assume that Discovery (and the dev team) must be incredibly bullish on NOT adding basic features like PiP (or fixing the rotating/pausing situation) because it’s hard to believe they could be completely unaware of ALL the complaints that have come in. Furthermore, in the time since the app was released, other than fixing bugs on the backend, what have they *actuallydone to update the UX of the app? For the Discovery+ folks who respond to people’s reviews here, although I’m sure it will never be shared, it would undoubtedly be great to have a general understanding as to when subscribers can expect some of these essential updates to happen.

Needs work by Developers MAJOR HINTS below
Since Warner Bros. took over this app has gone downhill FAST. It’s overloaded with shows on murder & crimes (which frankly can be offensive or inappropriate for children). As well as pushing “woke” liberal politics as is shown by the pathetic ad above promoting a so called January 6 show (CNN+ bombed for a reason guys!) Slapping a Discovery logo on CNN footage isn’t going to get people to watch it…js
America doesn’t want to watch about 'evil' in today's world. I have had enough of the 90 days crap! And there is too much here that's not exactly 'family friendly'.
MAJOR HINTS FOR DEVELOPERS:
• There needs to be a way to hide shows we don't like/find inappropriate. Just like blocking on social media!
• ‘My List’ shouldn’t be limited as to how many shows we can add. Some are seasonal so they stay on the list but only have new shows at certain times of the year!
• When there is a new episode of a show on ‘My List’ we should be notified somehow. Something as simple as a dot on the screen will work!
• Recommendations shouldn’t include shows we’re already watching or have watched previously! This seriously is just plain logical.
Warner Bros. needs to consider why people subscribe to this. Especially those of us who pay for AD FREE: To follow a show or topic of interest and not to be subject to propaganda.

Long-standing Problems
I really like some of the programming on Discovery+, but the powers that be absolutely refuse to address long standing problems. These problems are so easy to fix too!
When I rotate my phone from vertical to horizontal, the show often pauses. Discovery Plus has claimed to have fixed this problem, but that’s not true. This is still happening.
On a show’s page, it sometimes says that new shows drop on a specific day, like “New episodes every Sunday.” When Sunday comes and nothing drops, that’s false advertising. When you contact customer service, you get the copy and paste response about licensing restrictions. I understand licensing restrictions. I don’t understand false advertising. If it’s advertised as dropping on a certain day, it should drop on that day. It’s really that simple.
The poor customer service representatives are not empowered to solve problems. All I ever get is a copy and paste response when I contact customer service. I’m sure that many of these employees are willing and able to solve problems. Why not empower them to do that?
Please organize the “Just Added” section. I don’t want to scroll through 40 episodes of one show to see if the show I’m interested in has dropped. It’s called a submenu.
I really like the content on Discovery Plus, but it’s difficult and frustrating to access with all of these issues that have been going on for years.
