Fraud
I purchased the premium package from them today, and never received my confirmation email. I got worried, and tried to send them a request for the confirmation via their online help form. This form does not work. It kept giving me an error message that says I did not enter my email address, even though I did.
I gave up on that and tried calling them on the phone number posted on the website, as well at the whois listing.
THE PHONE NUMBER IS NOT VALID! I have been scammed out of $129.95.
I am very angry - having unemployment in our household, and rely on my website to bring business in. What was supposed to be time for me to get some real work done so that I can earn some money, turned into being scammed out of the last few dollars in my bank account and hours of resolution attempts. I hope this does not get stretched out for months like I have seen happening to others here. If so, is anyone interested in filing for damages?
This is fraud.
I guess I'll spend the rest of my week filing complaints with the appropriate authorities.
Refund Scam
Wow. I wish I would have read the other complaints about this site before buying into their $59.99 a year plan. I thought the templates looked great, but when I downloaded them tey turned out to be outdated (from 2007) and completely not what I expected. Indeed they seemed like re-hashed designs.
They list on their FAQ page that there is an unconditional 30 day money back guarantee. When I asked for a refund, here is what they sent me.
"
According to our company policies you are not entitled for a cancellation as you have downloaded more than 20 templates before deciding to cancel your account.
Money Back Guarantee Policy
Buyers wishing to cancel their membership may do so within 30 days of the purchase and receive a full refund. However, refunds are not honoured if members download over 20+ templates before deciding to cancel their account.

It says nothing on their site about how many you can download before canceling. It says you can only download 20 a day, however they give you a 60 downloads a day limit. I of course downloaded many templates to see if they all were as crappy as the ones before. It turned out they really all were horrible! Little did I know that the support would also be horrible. I hope paypal honors this dispute.
DO NOT trust this company.
UPDATE:
I have filed a complaint with Paypal, the ACCC and I am mailing a complaint to the Queensland Office of Fair Trade.
If you notice, the Terms of Use are different on DreamTemplate.com from all of those listed on BrochureReady.com, IconObjects.com and ThemeLayout.com. All of these sites are ownd by the same company, however none of these sites list the 20+ downloads and no money back clause. On the signup page itself, the terms of use in the box, the ones that you agree to accept, also do not list he 20+ downloads on no money back clause. This is both deception and a pretty stupid move on their part. Any real dispute with this company (via a lawsuit... anyone hear of class action?) would surely hold up in court (no matter in Australia or US) because they falsified their Terms of Use page and did not modify the Terms as listed when you sign up and agree to them.
Even the Terms of Use seem bogus and are setup to trap the consumer from the beginning with a clause that states "Dream Template has the right to change these terms at any time without prior notice". That is not a reasonable or enforceable clause in a terms of use. That is a catch-all that is setup to screw over the consumer. This website has SCAM written all over it.
I am not so much fighting for my $60 as I am fighting for the end to one more scam on the internet.
DreamTemplate sucks!
The site very slowly after I download 1 theme use internet download manager. then I change my ADSL ip, the next IP adress very simlilar with the first one, then the system suspend my account. I have to contact them to unblock it.
After unblock, I download 9 themes in this month, then the system tell me I've download 60 themeplates, I can't dowload anythin utill 24 hours later.
I contact the sales again, he reply some nonsense words, then didn't reply me anymore! My issue still hasn't be fixed till now!

dreamtemplate is another company selling templates legally so you can use for anything* up to you, even so they NOT adding new templates regularly, but for USD95 for 3years, 50 online clients licenses, with good design, and fully customize web element, i would say i don't want to miss that!. Ryan - webmaster
I've used Dreamtemplates for a year and have just signed up for a second. No problems ever. Great templates, affordable price. Many other sites charge for one template what this site gives you for literally hundreds to choose from. With a little "tweaking" you've got something unique. Great for small / startup web companies
I used Dream Template for a year with no problems at all. I intend on using them again this year. The templates were wonderful kickstarts to some very nice websites I made last year. I never had to deal with anyone just paid for a membership did my downloading and in a year(the amount of time I signed up for)my account expired. I have read 2 complaints about them while having nothing bad to say about them I thought I would dime in here and let my experience be a part of the debate.
My account go randomly suspended as well. Requesting Refund if they dont unlock it soon...
I was going to my Dreamtemplate account and happened on this complaint. I was shocked because I have had the service for 2 years and have never had a real problem. For the annual fee, I have downloaded dozens of site templates for my small web business with very good quality, no technical login or download problems, and only one or two files that were incomplete, but with scores of other choices to go to. I would never have been able to put as many niche sites up without this affordable access to these templates. Also, in comparing the quality to other template services, I have never found a single one that gave as much for the money. For the price of one template on many services, I get dozens from my unlimited access account. I usually don't get into these comment things, but fair is fair and I wanted to put my opinion in to balance out what has apparently been an unusual bad experience with the company. I am always recommending the company to colleagues as a way to keep the budget down. For an example of what I did with a simple Dreamtemplate template, you can go my website: www.jobsearchmart.com.
I have an account with them for the past 7 months and it works fine. Are you sure you weren't sharing your account with your friends? I know they will automatically suspend your account if you do and you have to send an email to unlock it.

Highly recommended, but caution will not hurt.

DreamTemplate Price Scam
DreamTemplate Price Scam
You may have noticed that the prices on DreamTemplate are incredibly inflated. As of today, 29 April 2008, when I visited, Website templates were listed at USD 2400 and Flash Template priced at USD 3500.
They are not even unique which means that after you pay thousands of dollars for a template, someone else could come along and use it for their site, negatively impacting your brand’s credibility.
That’s assuming you’re not ripped off by DreamTemplate’s 30-Day unconditional Refund policy, which, from my personal experience, they empathically do *not* honor.
As most people already know, nowadays you can get professional, unique websites designed for as low as $50 by bidding on freelance sites like rentacoder.com or scriptlance.com. For around $300, you can get a custom design by an experienced, reputable designer.
The best part is that you don’t have to worry about being ripped off. The money is held in escrow by the website until you’re happy with the work.
This leads me to mention DreamTemplate’s overinflated Price Scam. As an internet newbie, I was overwhelmed by the bonanza of high quality websites I saw and what I thought was *very* inexpensive membership fee. Little did I know, there is an ugly story behind their collection.
In 2006, DreamTemplate took the *free* open source templates that have been distributed for years, lightly modified them and offered them as *unique* templates at $400-600 to customers. This was extremely misleading if not outright fraud. Because customers could pay hundreds of dollars for the websites only to discover that half a million people on the net have already downloaded the same template for years, for free.
This caused a storm of controversy among the group of designers who discovered DreamTemplate was deceiving ignorant customers with their free open-source designs. (As seen from a blog post dated 13 September 2006 by Andreas Viklund. http://andreasviklund.com/blog/webdesign/business-ethics) As the blog post notes – Andreas contacted DreamTemplate several times and did not get a response for weeks. An experience consonant with mine although two years later.
The controversy caused DreamTemplate to stop selling their templates as “unique” and label them as open source templates they really are.
I recommend that people avoid DreamTemplates for ethical reasons. These unscrupulous business people know exactly what they are doing. Even their price and product offers are misleading. Don’t be a fool like me, I trusted Telson to process my Refund request made only 3 days later and wasted hours writing 6 emails from 21 Jan – 29 April.
Absolutely *no* progress was made until I contacted the relevant authorities, cancelled my previous credit card and involved my bank in a chargeback dispute.
Please - just be aware about what you are getting into when you sign up for one of DreamTemplates paid services.
Affiliates – please be aware that if you promote businesses with poor business ethics, it will reflect badly upon you as well. I hope my experience will be helpful in factoring the commission vs reputation equation.
"unique websites designed for as low as $50 by bidding on freelance sites like rentacoder.com or scriptlance.com."
This is a joke. Don't expect something original for this figure. Most likely you'll waste $50.
You need a designer to create a template and then you will need a web developer/programmer to integrate it. If you decide to go with a ready template you may skip the designer's costs but it won't be something original.
Finally there is no figure or price range for unique/original designs and custom features. It can easily go into thousands. It is subject to the requirements of your store/site.
I disgaree with your complaints about dream template.
I got prompt support from them, and their templates look great.
The art is in modifying the template so it look unique - that takes skill. And Dreamweaver and Photoshop and an iStockphoto account. These are not simply word documents you type over the text with.
I repeat dream templates is NOT a scam, I paid my membership, got my templates and I'm happy.
Cheers.
I love their templates, they brilliant!
I download a template, change it dramatically and it's still less time than doing it from scratch.
With regards to unique templates, I figured that they cannot be unique and publicly available at the same time.
As a long-time web designer, I urge that simply purchasing a template and utilizing it is short of originality. The beauty of using template designs--even those you may create --is that your design doesn't begin from scratch. Coding and designing a web site is time-ordained. You can indeed find designers and developers with services, which may cost less than designs on DreamTemplates. You get what you pay for: the design process awaits, and you generally get what you must compensate for creativity. I agree that the templates in topic can seem expensive to uneducated designers or consumers. Feel free to leave the design jobs to experienced experts. Ciao!
I have purchased their membership and got so much hassle. You can't build any website from that template without seeing hundreds of clones in the Internet. The proposal looks great at the first glance, but I think these guys oversold their inventory too much. They spend a lot of money on advertising and people buy a lot of that stuff. They cannot control the distribution of their online assets.
I'd better design stuff by myself or at least consider other option like www.templatemonster.com - at least they have 24/7 live support.
Wow, for the most part all the b.s that you just wasted your time reading about unique price and none unique price all came from a design newbie or someone with a really small iq your choice. Period the price is 59.95 for a membership to download up 60 templetes a day for up to 1yr. The prices shown are for examples, ask any ture graphic/web designer what it takes to put a site togeather from scratch and you figure out why it costs that much.
They are not promoting you to buy the templates they want you to buy a member ship period. They are the best bang for the buck, you simple down load the template you want and open with the correct abobe or web editing software of your choice and go to town. This day in age with millions of websites out there more chance than none some one will have a layout like yours. What makes the diffrence is the time you take in the graphics and useability period.
As for those who had refund issues I have no opinion, just a point they did offer paypal one of the worlds best despuite teams who takes care of the whole thing for you.
I just got scammed by these guys also. Signed up for their membership, got a verification email that took me to a blank web page, they don't answer their phone, their contact form on their site does not recognize your data entered into the form, they have obviously got it set up not to accept the info people are trying to send - probably because the amount of emails they'd receive would crash their server if allowed to go through.
It sounded too good to be true and it was - I knew better but I fell for it anyway.
STAY AWAY FROM DREAMTEMPLATE.COM - THEY ARE SCAMMERS!
89 days later, I look on my credit card account online and see that Dreamtemplate has finally refunded me my money. I can not believe it has took a company almost 3 months to give me a refund, something I wasn't expecting. I guess they finally broke down.
Never received membership verification email. No one answers the phone. Captcha form does not work. This is a scam site. I'm going to have to do a card dispute - darn.
I am going through the same problems with them. I asked for a refund with in 24 hours after purchase and was told NO. RUN RUN RUN from this company.
DreamTemplate Refund Scam
Before becoming a customer, affiliate or even sell banner ad space to DreamTemplate.com, you might want to hear about my recent experience with them.
DreamTemplate Deliberate Refund Scam: I trusted their 30 day unconditional refund policy so I bought a 37 Month with 250, 000 Stock Photo Library on 17 Jan 2008.
3 days later when I asked for a refund I was given awful customer service by Telson, who repeatedly asked for my confirmation and when it was given, just asked me the same questions again. I corresponded with him a total of 6 emails and got nowhere.
No objections were raised against my refund but *no* evidence of a refund was given.
When I contacted the relevant authorities such as bbb.org on 24 April 2008 DreamTemplate changed their position and sent a misleading email: " We will process your refund. You will soon receive it".
As of the time of writing, I have received *no* evidence of a refund which proves I had been deliberately sent a Refund Scam.
Be aware of the following unethical business practices of this company:
1. Misleading Advertisement - Most know it- the "limited time offer" is *fake*. This obvious scam is just the tip of the iceburg.
2. False FAQ - Not all policies are observed - I would like to share my awful experience - DreamTemplate Refund Scam
3.Misleading Customer Service. As I wrote earlier - Telson sent me completely misleading if not outright deceptive Refund emails.
I have already contacted bbb.org, ftc.gov and ic3.gov to alert them of DreamTemplate's Internet Fraud.
Don't get me wrong, if you can overlook their unethical business practices, DreamTemplate may be a dream resource for you. Just be aware you should use a credit card and should the necessity to refund arise, forget about wasting your time "mediating" with Telson and seek help from your bank instead.
I would like to add that should you have paid with your credit card through paypal, you have some protection against DreamTemplate if they do not respond to your emails or give you misleading advice.
I just spoke to a Paypal representative regarding my refund.
Within 45 of your original payment, you can contact Paypal to contact the merchant on your behalf.
If the merchant does not answer within 20 days, Paypal can "escalate" your dispute into a refund claim.
You can make your complaint in Paypal's "Resolution Center".
I just tried to get my "unconditional" refund only to be given the run around- avoid these guys!
Dreamtemplate is not a good service as it claims. I can't believe people paying hundreds of dollars for such terribly coded templates. There are better web design companies offering great design layouts for about the same price. Dreamtemplate is seemingly nothing more than thousands of crappy useless templates available to download in a subscription package
Sorry double post.
DreamTemplate had some really nice templates but the yearly cost was quite high. I recommend you only sign up with a company on a monthly basis to protect yourself, and that is something DreamTemplate doesn't offer. I found TemplateDrop.com for $9.95 a month and used coupon code TDROP1. I saved an additional 25% with the coupon. Webhosting was included as well, unlike DreamTemplate.
This is why I am glad I search for reviews before pulling the trigger. My "This is too good to be true." alarms will ringing loudly. Thank you for posting your experience. YOu have helped save me from the same problem. BTW what prompted you to ask for a refund?
I would also file a complaint with the ACCC, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. Here is where you can file a complaint with them: http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/54217#h2_38
Also, you can file a complaint with the Queensland Office of Fair Trading:
http://www.consumer.qld.gov.au/oft/oftweb.nsf/AllDocs/RWP0C6AD84F54681EBF4A256B66001AF8AC?OpenDocument&L1=About+Us
If this company is practicing out of Queensland, you will have to work with the government there to really fight them. If enough people complain, they can shut down the business (or at least pressure thm to refund your money).
There are hefty fines for companies that don't hold up to their end of the bargain.
I am having a similar experience. The tip-off was when I simultaneously received confirmation of the paypal transaction and a note from Dream Template which states:
** Please ignore this email if you have already paid for your membership. **
Thank you for your recent signup at DreamTemplate.
If you have not already paid or your payment was unsuccessful, please click on the links below to pay for your subscription. Once we receive payment, you will be taken to our processing page to have your account activated immediately.

This is clearly an intentional scam and not just simply incompetence, in my opinion.
