This will be the third time I have submitted a complaint and today was the fifth time I have contacted Dte since May 1st 2017. On May 1st 2017 at 12:26pm I had services turned on at my new address, I was told that all I had to pay was the previous balance that I owed and the down payment would be waived. I specifically asked the advisor if these charges would be applied to my bill at a later date and he said no. May 20th at 2:27pm I called because in fact that down payment was placed on my bill. The rude advisor assured me that this was just a mistake it would be taken off my bill and to just pay the current charges. June 28th at 3pm I talked to Marissa who stated 358 dollars was a security deposit for services being turned on, it stated in the notes on my account that the security deposit was supposed to be waived. She transferred me to another advisor Brielle, she stated that the "system" went back and put the 358 dollars onto my account. I was placed on hold for 10 minutes while she worked on my account. When she came back she said that she had put my account on hold while the 358dollars were being processed to be taken off and said it will go away within the next few days. July 14th at 12:37pm I immediately asked to speak to a supervisor. Advisor said the supervisor was on another call and there would be a very long wait, she stated the supervisor would call me back within 2 hours. The supervisor never called back. July 24th at 3:25pm I spoke with Marqueshia who told me that those charges should not be there and they would be taken off and she would also call me back by the end of her shift at 6pm. She never called back and the charges are still on my account. I want to know why I have made multiple complaints as well as called multiple times being told by multiple people these charges would be taken off my bill told that people would contact me or call me back and none of these things you incompetent people have told me have actually happened? This is absolutely ridiculous and it is appalling that you have this horrible customer service! Not only do I want these charges taken off my account I want an apology.

My original issue with DTE started in March of 2017. I sent in a payment of $200 to fulfill my SPP Payment Plan. I received the next bill in April 2017 which did not reflect the payment that I sent in to DTE. I called into DTE immediately. I spoke with several representatives regarding this matter. Eventually, I was forwarded after an hour of talking, to a Billing Dept.Supervisor by the name of Carey. This call occurred on 3/16/17. Carey assured me that after pulling my call from the original representative that it was an error on the part of that rep. and that my SPP past due would go back down to $0. Carey also stated that my next billing cycle was approaching on 4/13/17. Carey stated that at that time the bill would be corrected and I would be responsible for my SPP Payment of $200. I received that bill and it was anything but what Carey and I agreed on. The amount had NOT been corrected, it stated that I still owed the $200 from the previous SPP Payment. I called back to DTE immediately. I spoke to a representative by the name of Telur @ 8:52am on 4/17/17. Telur appeared to be very understanding and stated from the previous notes she could understand why I was upset. Telur stated that she would reset my SPP Plan and that the new balance would be $0 pastdue. Telur stated that after the month of April my new SPP amount would be $186.60. As a struggling mother and father of 4 children this was music to our ears. My husband and I then took the monies we budgeted and paid our SPP responsibility of $200. (4/3/17= $100 Conf#[protected], 4/4/17= $100 Conf#[protected]) The next billing cycle came and it did not reflect what Telur and I agreed upon. The payment plan had not been reset. The change to a $0 balance for SPP did not happen. I was slightly frustrated but tried to remain calm and patient. I paid another $187 to fulfill my obligation for the SPP Plan. (5/15/17=$187 Conf#[protected])I called back to DTE. This time I spoke with a representative by the name of Lore'. This was on 5/16/17 @10:40am. Lore' then stated what all the previous representatives before her stated. She stated she was sorry for the inconvenience and could understand my frustration with this matter. Lore' stated that she would put notes into the system regarding this matter, and that the new bill would reflect the change. Lore' stated that due to the account change over from account number [protected] to [protected] the changes might have been overlooked. I am paraphrasing but this was the summary of this particular part of the conversation. Lore' also stated starting June my SPP past due would be back down to $0. She stated that I should ignore the statement and that it would be corrected. Lore' then stated not to forget to make my obligation of $186.60 for the month of June. We ended the conversation on a very pleasant note. Before I could even pay the SPP for June I received another bill stating that my past due balance was $0 but I now owed DTE the imaginary figure of &493.80. (?) I try to be a very patient person and hoped that when my new paper bill came it would reflect the change. I then made a payment of $100 on 6/12/17(conf#[protected]) Not only did the next bill not reflect the change but it stated that as of 07/07/2017 I now owed a past due SPP of $406.80? and that my SPP payment due was now $200 again. Making the grand total $606.80? I then called back to DTE. I spoke with a representative who's first name started with a D. I neglected to write her name down out of pure frustration at this point. The call took place today 6/19/17 @ 5:43pm. This representative then stated there was not much she could do and transferred me to a billing supervisor by the name of Janette. I spoke to Janette and explained the situation I have been dealing with since March of this year. Janette was professional as far as language goes but seemed more frustrated that she had to listen to my story. Janette offered no solution. Janette then tried to tell me that a payment plan reset was never put into the system(even though the previous rep said it was. Janette also stated that it wouldn't be the amount I was quoted by 3 of your representative but would go back up to $200 because your representatives handled the SPP wrong. I explained to Janette that I was not trying to be a nuisance but that I was on a very strict budget, and that my payment plan could not just be changed due to someone feeling that I should pay more. I also explained to Janette that this matter has been plaguing my husband and I since March with no resolution. I refuse to pay amounts that I do not owe because DTE's representatives were not doing their job correctly. I also explained I refused to pay a higher payment plan than quoted because DTE's representatives did not do their job adequately. Janette seemed even more frustrated and unconcerned. Janette was not looking to satisfy us as paying customers. Janette lacked the ability or the patience to look any further into this matter. I had to ask to have her supervisor Michelle return my call. She did not offer any adequate solutions for this matter which has been so grossly mishandled. I am awaiting a call my Michelle tomorrow. I have faithfully paid the amount set up for SPP since the plan was instituted in my honor. I have paid DTE faithfully before my phone, water, and groceries. I refuse to be treated this way by any company who considers me to be a customer. I am shocked and appalled and the incompetency of which this matter was handled. I do not understand in all my patience why it has taken since March to resolve this issue. I do not understand why bill amounts are being released to customers that are incorrect. I am mortified to think of how this would have been handled if I didn't make recorded calls attempting to rectify this situation. I hope this matter will be rectified with this complaint, and that I am not forced to have it addressed elsewhere.
Update: Michelle the supervisor didn't call until 2 days later while I was at work despite my warning of my work schedule to Janette. She left a voicemail and never called back again.

Dte is ripping us off, solely because they are the only game in town! I am away from home 12 hours a day 6 days. A week, I live alone and keep my thermostat on 68 with only one night light on to see when I come home. I eat out 6 days a week because I'm to tired to cook except maybe once or twice a week. Yet my bill, after paying $200 a month IS STILL 696! That's pure bs! Who can we go to and get some results!
I purchased my home in Redford July, 10th 2015. I enrolled in the Budget Wise Billing plan. My payments were $205 a month. After they did the re-evaluation, my payments went up to $265, still reasonable I thought. I have a 1400 sq. ft. bungalow, I run 3 window air units in the Summer and I hate cold so my heat is always around 72. My windows are from 1952, so I know that has an impact. At the end of 2016, beginning of 2017 they sent me a letter stating my monthly payments would be around $367. I called to inquire about why they would be so high and they said because I used more than I was paying, so it's averaged out and the end of the year and the payments are adjusted based on what I currently use, and what my previous balance. The DTE representative recommended I enroll in the "income based repayment plan" I bring home maybe $1600 a month, I receive food assistance. I enroll and my payment is $422! I do not understand how that's income based, my DTE is $100 shy of my mortgage! In the middle of July I receive a notice my DTE is in collections, they claim I missed my June payment. I have bank statements showing payments in the amount of $422 for April, May, June and July. I ask what can I do to do get off this plan and get lower payments. They stated because I received a shut-off notice, I would need to pay my remaining balance of $2, 800! I NEVER MISSED A PAYMENT OR RECEIVED A SHUTOFF NOTICE, EVER ...I'm currently waiting for an "investigator at DTE" to call me back with more details, cause I clearly don't understand. They also took it upon themselves to enroll me in email billing, I have not saw a bill since 2016. I called three different times trying to get a bill in my mailbox, still waiting
tree cutting
Good Morning,
On June 7, 2017 my power went out around 4pm. The power was restored by 11:30pm. The crew continued to cut down trees until 1am. The tree limbs along with some huge tree branches have not been cleaned up. I was assured that the would be back on June 8th the next day to clean up the mess. I really really really need these trees branches picked up QUICKLY! I have a lawn service coming to day to cut my grass in addition I had Tru Green treat my lawn and I'm afraid that the money I spent having that done will be of no affect due to the branches being down. I have a scheduled PROM send off and Graduating party scheduled this weekend and this is causing me to panic. Please respond with a solution.
central air conditioning
Hi,
today someone claiming to be a meter reader entered my back yard to do whatever they do. well i couldn't go out there because i had a more pressing issue occuring at the same time. We called tonight and were told its all digital now and meter readers no longer come out to read the meters . Well ironically my centrail air conditioning doesn't work now. I didn't get to see a face or get a name. Have I been scammed?
dte energy damaged my property and hasn't been out to make repairs
On October 27th a DTE construction crew came onto our property, dug up part of our drive way and left without making repairs.
During the event my wife was home with our infant baby.
We were never given a heads-up that this work was going to take place and to date the repair work has not taken place (2/24, today).
I made calls to DTE prior to the holiday to request the repairs be made in time for the holidays - I was concerned for the safety of older visiting family members trying to walk over the uneven ground.
I am still trying to get DTE to make the repairs.
worst company ever!
DTE is allegedly doing a huge project in Ferndale. Because of this I've been woken up to technicians everyday for months. It's not the work that bothers me. It's the disrespect, noise, parking on both sides of the street with 12+ trucks. Today I came home to no power because they blew a transformer. The dte representative I spoke with was very dismissive. He didn't care that it's February and there is no electricity. He didn't care that all of my groceries purchased yesterday are now spoiled. This company is the worst company on the planet!

Yesterday, my electric service disrupted at 8:30 am on february 8, 2017, I received no shut off phone calls from dte, no shutoff notices-nothing. The electricity bill is paid. My apartment is all electricity - i'm presently enrolled in the senior protection no shut off plan. I talk with jeff grable and was not given an explanation of what I did wrong as to why my van [censored] apt 1 electricity was shut off.
However, october, 2016. Dte worker was given permission to come out and read the electric meter, at that time, it had two yellow key locks on for safety due to area. The dte worker left, and he took the globe meter turning off service. According to dte resolution dept. “dte worker found it destroyed; globe turn backwards wires cut”.
The dte worker practice vandalize on his job november 2016 against the meter and blame his vandalism on me. I filed a mpsc complaint. At the same time, I requested an investigation by mrs. Watkins from executive office.
Final, mrs. Watkins solve the problem and electricity service was restored and apology was given, drop the complaint (Mpsc) a new meter - satellite was installed. However, now electricity is turn off again. I think its retaliation for filing mpsc complaint. May you please investigate, I have no service and it very cold in this apartment. R 460.3705 interruption of service; interruptions has cause unreasonable inconvenience. This shut off was not preceded by any notices to husband and i. Mrs. Nancy moody, I thank you for your “leadership commitment” to the community and congratulations on your appointment as vice president of public affairs.

I completely agree with your course of action, but realize, unfortunately, you're fighting a losing battle. A few months ago they shut off my power without proper notice. I forgot one payment. I had an $80 balance. My grandfather had just died and they weren't the first thing on my mind. I came home one Friday to no power. I called and got no where. My brother is an attorney so he called and sited the same law. They have to give proper and very specific notice. They still made me pay a deposit to get it turned back on. I took it to the State AG's office on my brother's advice. The AG doesn't really care. DTE (after having admitted to my brother and I that the did not notify me of the shutoff) falsified records of calling me and sending me mail. The AG sided with them. We're double screwed because we don't even have another option to switch companies.

My name is father george fekete. We have been working with a family who has been touched by terminal cancer. The family's breadwinner has less than one month to live. All treatment has now been stopped and he has chosen to return home, rather than to die in the hospital. Several parishes have been involved with his care, providing special diet, paying bills etc. One of these bills and the largest of all the rest is dte energy for gas. One of our wealthiest parishioners attempted to pay this bill on two occasions in the last 2 months (This is for [phone number removed] this is for [name removed] [address removed]) the payments were both submitted via electronic check and were returned as non-sufficient funds. This was incorrect. The parishioner was very upset and went to his bank to inquire as to why a check for less than $3, 000.00 was twice returned, when there are thousands of dollars available in the account. His bank told him that after an investigation, the check was not returned by the bank but by a cliche in dte's collection service. I have spoken to customer service and customer care to no avail. I have asked to speak with a supervisor and was informed that the gas service was in shut off status and could be disconnected anytime. We followed dte's instructions and mailed a cashier's check totaling 2700.00. This was said to be an adequate amount to keep their heat on. I asked for a few more days to allow the check to reach your company, but was denied. This person has lung cancer it is stage iv, as previously stated. With weeks to live, I ask that you show compassion for this person, I have prayed that you show compassion. We have mailed the check and all will be well in a day or two. Thank you. I have subscribed the core protection and added A/C after that.
I made a service call and the repair man rejected the repair saying that it was unsafe and shut the gas valve and the furnace system. My tenants has two kids and I have no choice but to replace the furnace. After replacing the furnace and A/C I asked cancel the plan as they are band new and will be covered by the manufacture for one full year. But DTE would not cancel my plan and said that I have keep paying for rest of year, $390 or I have to pay early termination fee to quit. DTE repair man rejected the repair and I had to buy new one for $5, 500 and I have to still pay the plan?
Poor customer service down talking the elderly and appeared to be a little racist. She immediately walked in did not speak and started being very unprofessional very uncomfortable and upsetting.

I signed up for this program in january 2014. I called for service to our a/c in june this year. After 5 days, they sent out a couple of guys from a local company. They advised the unit could not be repaired and would have to be replaced. I called around to get estimates on replacement and when another company came out to give an estimate, he advised that it could be repaired, which he did. I advised the so called dte customer service dept of this issue and asked that they cancel my policy and pay for the repair on the a/c. I just continue to get the run around from the customer service people (Which by the way is the only phone number you will find for dte appliance protection program) and I continue to get bills for the monthly premium. I have complained the the bbb, the ftc and I really don't know what else to do. Whatever you do, do not sign up for this fraudulent program!
It's good to see you had the sense to get multiple quotes. Mine and several of my neighbors' outside air conditioning exchangers were stolen (Detroit suburb) during a power failure. 2 neighbors paid over $3500 to replace theirs because even the innards had to be replaced too. I got four estimates - three for over $3000, and one for just $1100, because (he claimed) only the outside exchanger itself had to be purchased and installed. Turns out he was right! Works just fine. Always get multiple quotes for HVAC stuff.

I put in a repair call on 1-13-16 when the techniton came he told me I had a crack in my heat exchange and had to cut my heat off but that the sensor did need cleaning when the blower came on the could tell it needed a exchanger and they did not cover that . I called a friend of the family that is a retired heating and cooling repair man to see if we needed a new furnace and he said all you need is a new moter for the large blower paid 300.00 for him to replace it on 1-14-16 have had heat every sence I call ste to see if hy plan covered moters and was told yes I have made a former complaint no word yet I pay on time every month why do I have to be cheated out of my hard earned money and its ok for you guyes not to care the man that fixed my furnace can not get in volved because he is under a bond from the compy he worked for but I doo have the part he replaced can I please get my money back and a reply

Please be advised, I received your correspondence regarding the property damage claim from Detroit Edison (DTE) under the date of November 20, 2015, on November 29, 2015. In your letter you stated DTE’s underground equipment was struck and sustained damages in the amount of $2, 178.62 because of the installation of my patio. You also stated that according to the Miss Dig Statute all utilities, including DTE are required to have the underground utilities staked prior to excavation. My power to half of my home went out on November 10, 2015, and I called DTE immediately. To receive this letter after making numerous calls is insulting. According to you letter, the underground crew who came out on November 16th, the Monday after the first snow fall, my husband and I were home all day and saw no one. My husband decided to place another call with no response on the 18th, I called again on the 20th and someone finally came out on the 22nd, this person said we needed an underground person and he could easily detect where the damage was and fix it. I placed another call on the 27th and was told my work order had been closed. As you can see in the attached photos, I still have a live wire crossing my yard into the other neighbors’ yard, with an open yard children are constantly running through as well as animals mainly deer. As you can see from the photos, my patio is above ground level which was installed in July. The installation required no excavation or use of power equipment. The patio replaced an existing deck so there was no need for the use of any powered hand tools. The posts for the arbor were set into the cement for support. I am well aware of the Miss Dig Statute after retiring from a public entity for over 20 years and dealing with damage recovery as yourself. Act 53 of 1974 which was repealed by ACT 174 of 2013 effective April 1, 2014, Section 2 under 460.702 Exemptions. Clearly states; this act does not apply to a person or public agency using only nonpowered hand tools in performing excavating or tunneling operations described herein. The company who installed my patio has been in business for over 40 years and is also well aware of the statue. Therefore, the power loss to my home is due to faulty DTE equipment and we would like it resolved as soon as possible. You asked in your correspondence that I contact my insurance representative immediately to avoid legal action. I have over 20 years in the insurance business and I will be handling my own claim. Please consider this a formal notice for which I am holding Detroit Edison legally responsible for any damages incurred to any human being, any animal belonging to someone personally or any damages incurred to/on the premises due to the exposed power line.
power outage and lost of food
On 11-21-2015 my power went out for 4 days. Homes in the next block and surrounding areas had their power restored the next day. I could not speak to anyone and the message was inadequate. I had to relocate and lost food. I have been unsuccessful in getting someone to assist with my complaint. I want my bill adjusted and compensated for my lost of food. Thank you

Power goes out way too much here. Fort Gratiot, Michigan has been without power today for 14 hours and counting, its abut 8 times this year already and is ridiculous. I am handicapped and this makes it extremely difficult on me without heat or any power. They say trees are causing it, why can't they trim trees before it happens, for what we pay they have to try and avoid these, I am extremely upset about it. I got a generator but it is very difficult to start and run things on it because of my condition, MS. I have never had so many problems ever since I moved here. I just don't get it. Obviously the trimming isn't working that you say is ongoing. You need to get it better, there is absolutely no reason why you can't. I am sick of it.

My son's type1 diabetic his doctor faxed 5 times dte energy company says never received. My power off 3 days lost over $500 in insulin who should have to pay ? Me ? A since unemployed mother of kids and i'm barely making ends meet. I'm in medical school already stressed have no time to pay when it's not my fault. Someone obtained my info abused it now i'm paying the price. My credit score took a nosedive as a result of this i'm enraged irate and really filing a complaint with the u. S. Attorney general and the ftc. I'm so done with dte they are not going to do the best then I want a replacement of my 500 I had to beg borrow to replace my son's insulin. He'll die without it.. I had an agreement with dte energy to make payments and send a letter into them from my doctor I did so and now they tell me they didn't receive my letter even though the doctors office said that they did so I sent another one from the doctor so they tell me now they still didn't receive it so even though I kept up my end they turned off my electricity i'm on an oxygen machine and now it's on battery it won't last long and they don't care whether I breathe or not we will not hold up their end it's really sad.

A huge box of wires is completely exposed in ypsilanti (Near superior road and n. Huron river dr. ) I called the number on the box, which only addresses digging issues. They gave me dte. I called dte to report the safety issue. Dte disconnected me twice. I was then on hold for one hour—after touching the number for gas leak. There was no other number to check for safety concerns, but having to wait over an hour for a gas leak is terrifying. Dte—you need better safety responses.

There is no compassion from DTE Energy. I have been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in July 2015 and have a severe flare up. MS is a serious illness, easy to look up on the Internet. BUT... A week before my gas was shut off I had spoken to an agent who gave me no other option other than I would need to pay 280.00 and have a monthly shut off protection amount of 88.00. After speaking with 3 other agent's the following week, 1 agent told me I would qualify for low income assistance, (I resigned from my full time job) but I needed to scan or fax over some information including me and my daughter's social security cards. This is extremely difficult because I can no longer drive and have to find a ride to go to the library to accomplish this task. I would give DTE a (E) grade for helping the disabled. Consumers Energy and Hudsonville Water Department get an (A) grade for working with me through this difficult time and keeping their utilities on for me and my daughter. The National MS Society paid on my account to restore my service, which only took them 15 minutes to complete. DTE however is taking 9 days to do their work. Shame On DTE. I will never recommend this company to anyone and plan on sending a more detail report in the future on this substandard service.

I have had very high energy bills since at least 10 years I live alone home is 1300 sq ft I added on 400 sq ft in 2005 as inclosed porch it is completely insulated 6 inch walls I have used wood heat only for the last 8 years I do not use my furnace for winter I use the central air in summer only I have 7 acres of woods around my house for shade and wind block new refrigerator new freezer new electric dryer plain jane type no led read out new electric water heater wrapped insulation and turned down low 15 year old well and septic field 200 amp electric box in the house and 100 amp in the barn and a newer sump pump wood basement completely insulated 6 inch walls double pane windows everything my gte bill has been an average of $145 a month dec 2013 to dec 2014 now my jan 2015 bill was $185 and my feb 2015 bill is $282 I use 2 ceiling fans pushing air down on low and one box fan to push heat from my wood stove dte sends me emails saying I used 35 % more than my neighbors I take a shower every other day wash and dry 4 loads of laundry a month wash in cold water I know its been cold the last 2 years but this is getting out of hand I do not have a lot of gadgets in the house if I do they are turned off when not in use in late nov I was checking a light that quit working and found out the power coming into my house was 137 volts should be no more than 125 volts so I called dte and told them that and that my meter box was pulling off my house the service man came out and fixed the box and I said how high my voltage is he checked it behind the meter and agreed with me and went out and checked the transformer and said it was defective and would not put the meter back in until they get a crew out to replace it he told me it would not be till the next day 18 hours later they replaced the transformer I asked him if it would make a difference in my bill he said it wouldn't make much difference my brother inlaw is a retired electrician pilot and went to college as a chemist no dummy he said I should save 20% on my bill that has not happened it just went up more like gte is hiding the fact that they were charging me too much and its like they are making me pay for there cost to replace the transformer that is the 2nd tranformer they have replaced since 2005 and in 2005 they put in a smart meter and the bill has gotten higher since then I have head nothing but bad reports about this meter I have complained about high bills for years to gte and filed 2 complaints in the last year to there complaint department they say they will email back if they determine there is a problem I know my bills should not be that high ! The first 5 years my bill never went over $120 even when I used my furnace and I also have a wall heater to keep the furnace from running there is something very wrong I do not have a propane tank for my house now the company I used came out and took it because I didn't use it for 3 years and the tank was empty so now if I ever do decide to use propane I am going to buy my own tank I am disabled and on ssa now not much less than $22, 000 a year I built my dream home and the electic bill has turned into a nightmare
