I would not recommend this company
We have done many home projects prior to hiring ElkStone Basements to remodel our basement and are familiar with what takes place doing these home remodels. We met with Josh at Elkstone, felt like he knew what he was doing and hired the company. Initially after that and signing a contract, we became concerned with the initial drawings Josh created. We had to go over the plans several times as nothing he created would have worked in our space. We put in a golf simulator and used a company that ElkStone recommended. Elkstone told us that the company comes in at the end and then builds the simulator. Being weary of this, we on our own had to have the company come out for measurements prior to any construction before the project started. Sure enough, if we didn’t do that, none of the construction would have worked once it was completed with the simulator. Then, items were over ordered such as lumber costing us a lot extra that was not needed. A project manager was assigned to us who left it up to the homeowner to handle and accept all deliveries that we were never told about. None of the deliveries were looked at to see if they were correct by the supervisor which then caused a 7 day set back because one of the bar cabinets were never ordered yet the company claims was it was on back order. We then come to find out that they ordered all the wrong trim. The list goes on and on. The company decides to place all the leftover wood on our street where neighbors park for 5 days. We asked the company to come get the wood as it’s against our homeowner’s policy. They finally came and loaded half of it moving the rest into our driveway next to the giant dumpster and portapotty that no one uses because no one is ever working at our house. Meanwhile the owner of the company calls us with excuse after excuse and no source of remedy other than this is what happens with projects like this. That was sure comforting to hear. What could possibly go wrong in the next few weeks? During the delay of the construction and no work being completed, the company has the audacity to ask for a 25,000 check. This is after we have paid 19,000 already. We then get a notification that we need to wait yet another week for the cabinet they never ordered but they can modify a different one instead but it will take another week. Another week of nothing and a stand still. This is becoming routine! However, we were told that we owe another 25,000 immediately or they can’t continue. Interesting they want this large amount of money from us when they continue to create mistake after mistake, ordering the wrong items or forgetting to order the correct items meanwhile we keep paying for a dumpster and portapotty to sit in our driveway. Fed up with all this nonsense, we called to talk to someone that could help us at the company, but we were met with a horrible, condescending attitude from a woman named Hannah. As we explained the frustration over this project, she continued to be curt and rude over the phone. The project manager then tells us he will be out of town so our basement will now have to wait until he returns back in a week but yet made sure to let us know before he left town that we better pay the 25,000 or he will not put our project back on the schedule.
Finally, 2 weeks after nothing being completed, the workmen show up and tell us that the design of the bar cabinets is not functional and you can’t open the pullout trash can cabinet. They do their best to makeshift a cabinet which isn’t what we paid for or ordered. Then we are told by Elkstone that this will be the only work completed until next Tuesday as the painters have a funeral and nothing else will be done until then. That’s another week gone by. Then Monday of the next week, we are told that later afternoon they will come measure for the granite countertops; however they show up at 8:30 in the morning. Luckily we happen to be home as the project manager neglected to tell us the arrival time and didn’t show up himself to go over the measurements with the company. If we were not home, the measurements would have not been correct. The granite company said they had the wrong measurements from Elkstone.
It just gets worse and worse from here. They continue to overcharge for their own mistakes. They didn’t order the bar cabinets correctly again nor did they order one of them painted. They told us that we need to go match the paint and purchase it. They didn’t prepare the floor near the bar for carpet delaying the job more. They come in to sand creating a giant mess, messed up the cabinets and didn’t finish the bar counters underneath using makeshift metal. Sloppy job on so many levels. They put the carpet down on top of dust and debris left from bar sanding. The painters used a closed off bathroom we have and dripped paint all over the floor. The final product had huge imperfections in the baseboards and nail marks not filled in. All of the work is subpar. The project manager was incompetent and would talk down to us. He was never at the job site leaving us to answer questions that he should be answering. He never checked deliveries; therefore, items were not correct delaying the project more. The list goes on and on and Elkstone just tells us this is how they do business.
This company uses these “change orders” to overcharge customers and hide what the original cost will be. They make you sign these orders so that they can claim the customer is aware of them. The customer is at their mercy because you simply want this mess completed and them out of your house! Our basement consisted of only adding one wall, a bar (not even a wet bar) and some carpet. They do everything backwards. The carpet was put in after they painted the baseboards, so the baseboards had chunks of wood taken out from them. The total cost ended up being over 46,000 dollars (this is not including the golf simulator, this is the price of the labor and materials for minimal work). This company is not trustworthy, the project manager is worthless, nothing is transparent, they make excuse after excuse for their countless mistakes, the work is not well done and they are extremely greedy, sloppy and needed babysitting the entire project. I would never recommend this company to anyone.
ElkStone hooked us up!
ElkStone hooked us up! Our basement is dope af now. The crew went ham and Justin held it down. Dude stayed in touch the whole time and made sure we was good. If you tryna make your crib fly, hit up ElkStone!
Elkstone did a very good job with our basement finish. They put the effort in to make sure the basement details matched the details in the rest of the house, and the finished product is great! I inspected the work regularly and all of it seemed of good quality with nothing questionable. While the daily activities may have varied from the schedule, the project was completed on time (7 weeks, would have been 6 weeks without the holidays). Project manager was responsive to questions. Our advice to others would be to be ready with your decisions for things like tile, carpet, counters, and stone when you sign because once they start, they go-go-go and there's not a lot of time to figure those things out. Ask lots of questions at the beginning and make sure you understand the proposal. Everything moves very quickly and it helps to work out the details at the very beginning.
ElkStone delivered as promised...love their work and our new basement. Hassle-free work from start to finish, maintaining schedule and budget. I would highly recommend using this team of professionals.

I can't believe how happy I am with ElkStone, Inc!
I can't believe how happy I am with ElkStone, Inc.! From my first talk with the sales guy, to the design part, and working with the project manager and the subbies - it was awesome. I love the design, timeline (no COVID excuses), honesty, cost, flexibility, outcome - and the funny moments with the PM were worth every penny. Seriously, it was a steal. A lot of people have seen my basement and they're all super impressed.
We hired Elkstone for our basement finishing, and let me tell you, they nailed it
We hired Elkstone for our basement finishing, and let me tell you, they nailed it. Their prices were reasonable and they got back to us quick. Once we signed the papers, it wasn't long before they were on the job. We met up beforehand to talk it out, and their planning and schedule was on point. We knew what was up, what needed doing, and when it had to happen. They did everything just right, and we couldn't be happier. No complaints, just praise for Elkstone.
ElkStone Basement Inc
ElkStone Basement Inc. finished our *** sq. ft. basement in a tidy seven weeks. The designer came to the house and measured before creating a floor plan. Our project manager was awesome, checking four days a week—I mean, who does that? Elkstone was cool about our progress and caught potential problems before we did. They set up an online dashboard, payment system, calendar, and list for us organized people. I’d definitely recommend them if you want your basement finished!

Me and my man had never done a big project before and was super scared, but then we met Doug O and John L, they was our project boss. From start to end, everything they said gonna happen, happened. On time and all in our budget. John was always around to answer our questions (which was a lot) no matter what day or time we hit him up. All the people who worked on the project was so skilled and professional. We did our research and ElkStone was totally the top dog in their game and they proved it.
Elkstone finished our basement and we're super happy with everything they did

ElkStone Complaints 3
I had serious negatives with ElkStone that just seem to pile on!
I had serious negatives with ElkStone that just seem to pile on! They took our color submission and went to who knows where to match it and never said anything about it. And it doesn't even match now! So frustrating! They installed our vanity into the baseboards and made a huge hole in the lower shelf for ptraps. Plus, our bypass doors are stuck and off-kilter. And they didn't put a pilot hole in the middle of our fancy balustrade. Real smart. They also totally ignored my request to not have any supply air runs going through our below-ground basement. Now our bedrooms are stuffy even with all the vents closed! Really bad. And don't even get me started on their project manager (***) who acted like he was above me and ogled me inappropriately. NOT a good experience for the price we paid. They left all sorts of things unfinished. Still got a dumpster and a porta potty at our place. Just awful. Please somebody help!

I’m not happy with the results of ElkStone Inc
I’m not happy with the results of ElkStone Inc. project. There are a few issues that really disappointed me. 1) The ceiling lights look awful. I had a meeting with *** and I gave in too easily to a setup I didn’t like. It’s my fault, but I shouldn’t have to struggle for my preferences. 2) The sink is off-center from where I wanted it. The dimensions and style that were submitted were ignored. It should have been placed and approved beforehand. 3) The floor tile job required more materials, but we were not notified until after the work had finished. This caused a delay because the material was not easily available. 4) The bar sink was installed with the wrong color. They told me it would be fixed, but it hasn’t been. 5) The sump pump repair was not completed properly, and nobody confirmed that it was fixed. They charged for something that wasn’t properly done. The finished product looks really bad, and the code fix should have been included from the beginning. My dissatisfaction with the basement is really high.

This company is so bad, it shouldn't be making construction anymore
This company is so bad, it shouldn't be making construction anymore. They drilled wires into our house and didn't tell us, just left them hanging out and made holes in our house. They tried to put a vanity in our bathroom without sealing the tile underneath, and it flooded because they didn't connect the pipes right. They were supposed to put the wires into the wall, but they forgot and now we have holes in our house and our property is worth less money. They charged us too much for wood and for floor prep and changed the price all the time. They say one thing one day and then something else the next. They lie about how much things cost. They're not trustworthy and they're greedy. They don't care if they ruin people's homes. I wouldn't use them and I don't think anyone else should either. They've had problems with other people already.
