Unethical behavior
First, a bit of background information. I was a happy customer of Gentle Dental. My prior dentist was actually a fraud. In four years of going to his office he never once looked in my mouth. Each time I went there they just had hygienists give me a cleaning. I had great insurance and a great job then, and I wanted to get real work done. I was already a...

I am Elanna Hope Wilson-Guzman I have entrusted the care of my family to Gentle Dental for several years. I have been a supporter and recommended the services to multiple friends. However, I have had multiple issues recently. First, my insurance was not showing up and I ended up paying out of pocket for my son's extractions (September 3rd) and I was told...

periodontal consultation
To make things clear, I am a retired dental hygienist. I needed a gingival graft due from my orthodontia treatment when I was young, which resulted in bone loss. It was NOT perio. I have excellent oral hygiene. My dental insurance provided me with your office since they took my dental insurance. I told the receptionist I was referred to them from my dental insurance for a periodontal consult. I specifically stated I needed an appointment with Dr. Adashek when he was up in Prescott from Phoenix. He came to Prescott 2 x/week I believe. I already have a general dental practitioner. Imagine my disappointment when I got into my appointment and they told me I was scheduled with the general practitioner. Dr. Adashek was not even in that day! How stupid! I told them that I made an appointment with the periodontist specifically. No one in that big office knew what was going on. I was livid that I wasted my time. The assistant said that her notes said it was for a dentist appointment. Having been in dentistry since 1974 until 5 years ago, I know what appointment that I made and my request. I also had my dentist email all my radiographs. The office is very disappointing and they lost about $2, 000 out of pocket. I would never refer anyone to your office, and your company stinks!
painful root canal after several months. and the wrong color of a replacement crown
I had a terrible experience with the root canal I received in May 2017. The front tooth crown was destroyed during the root canal and I was told that I would need a new crown. I was not told this until I was walking to the dental chair where the root canal was done! So I had NO choice but to agree to the replacement for another 550.00$! The root canal still hurts as for today.
The biggest problem is that the replacement tooth is the WRONG COLOR!
I was told by the Santa Rosa ca. office that they could bleach it. then when I was going to make an appointment for the bleaching they told me they couldn't do it. They were rude and blamed it all on me when I assumed I was working with professionals when I went to gentle dental, whom I have used for the past 20 years!
I want my money back, over 900 dollars for the discolored front tooth replacement crown! I am asking you if you have begun this case as the office assured me? If not I want to get things going because I have waited for a response since July 2017 when I called and notified the office.
I have had nothing but trouble dealing with your company regarding this issue which is very disappointing.
I look forward to hearing from you in a timely manner!

overcharging for extractions and getting paid by credit prior to completion
Gentle Dental on Rte 1 South /Newbury Street in Saugus MA should be closed down. I am a 70 year old man living in a transit housing for Veterans. I have Delta Dental insurance. $2, 000.00 max and to my surprise a deductible over $200.00. For this total amount 5 teeth were pulled. I asked if they could at least get me bottom false teeth for my daughters wedding on July 30th, 2017. It only gave them about 3 weeks. They talked me out of a full button bridge saying the teeth would do this and do that. I agreed with the exception that (knowing it would not get done by the wedding day .) I had a top and bottom partial set made at the end of last year that then cost approx $3, 600.00. I would have to dig them out of my 10 ft by 20 ft storage locker and needed time. Delta Dental DMD's wanted another $1800.00 and at first said they would need the top partials in order for the new bottom partials to fit properly. Oh and by the way 3 times I went there to have all my bottom teeth out and was talked out of it by them telling me it would not work and be much better to do them all at once. They took impressions 3 times (which was not necessary). Now I have refused to go back as they billed my credit card and got paid $1, 800.00 more dollars. I need them to give me a bill and they will not. I paid almost $4, 000.00 to have 5 teeth pulled and just with a numbing needle. The next few months I need to rent an apartment for my new home. After 6 months of hotels, my car and temp housing I need to find a place to spend the rest of my time on this planet. I need them to send the unused money back to my credit card or my credit will not allow me to rent any apartment. Also credits have to be given for the extra charged for pulling the teeth. Please I am disabled and on S.S. I need someone help.
dental services
Unethical... Crooks... Told me they take my insurance then bill be more that 50% more... When confronted said it's normal. Insurance company said no... Then, gentle dental said 'oh, we made a mistake'.
Crooks, crooks, crooks... And dr. Fergunson lies... What a terrible practice!
And I found out from their staff that they put their own reviews on their website and www.myrepupation.com... more unethical behavior!
Insurance
The following is a email(abbreviated version) sent to the Gentle Dental Offices:
I must cancel all further appointments .
REASON: I requested an appointment on 07/27/2012 via email. I received a phone call from Paige Gatton (Patient Services Team) to confirm the appointment and receive new patient registration forms. I was sure to ask if Gentle Dental
accepted my Insurance, She said she would call the number I gave her and get back to me. She called back and informed me that Gentle Dental did accept my Insurance. On my emergency appointment August 1st., I was charged $25.00 (not deal breaker) for a routine visit, my bridge was removed, inspected and given a prescription for antibiotics and a pain reliever (which should have been covered
by my Insurance, I inquired about charges and was told there was a 25% discount?) and referred to a Oral Surgeon. I was never told I was NOT covered.
August 6th. the tooth was removed and the charge was $255.00 (emergency extractions are covered by my Insurance also). As I sat in the Dentist's chair, waiting for the Novocain to take affect, an assistant came in with a bill, clipboard, and a
pen and inquired how was I going to pay, cash, credit, or debit. Confused, and in severe pain, I thought I was covered by Insurance, I said debit and reached for my billfold/credit card. I was NOT previously informed I was NOT covered by the front desk."AS TACTFUL AS A FLYING BRICK", She said it would be easier to pay before surgery than after; as if I were going under for a major operation. She returned to ask about a "PIN" number or could they run it as credit. Luckily my mouth was numb, I felt as if I had been slapped in the face. Returning again so I could sign the bill, all this before the Novocain took full affect!
I called my Insurance and no claim was filed and that Gentle Dental is not a Provider with my Insurance. I feel I was duped by the person I spoke with that told me I was covered by my Insurance and the Office Staff was aware of that
when I was treated on August 1st and August 6th hence the "Tactful" way of asking for the payment before services rendered and pointing out that my next visit would be $83.00.
Further, the day after, (8am), my bridge was removed I was experiencing severe pain and requested a stronger pain reliever, I was told the Doctor was not in but they would contact him and I had to pick up the prescription in person. I told the office I didn't have access to a vehicle and CALL ME when the prescription was ready to be picked up. After a few hours, (11am), .. NO CALL, I
call back, talked to another person, and was told the doctor that was in could sign the prescription but he was seeing patients at the moment, I asked this person to CALL ME when the prescription was signed. At 3:30 pm...NO CALL, I called back and was informed I could pick up the prescription.
I arranged a ride to the Gentle Dental Office to pick up my prescription, much to my chagrin and dismay the prescription still was not signed when I arrived at the office. Perhaps the "Terribly Efficient" assistance with the bill, clipboard and the pin would have been a better choice to handle the "Prescription Issue". That aside, the Physicians are TOP NOTCH! Meanwhile, to date, I am $ 280.00 out of pocket, (that should have been covered by my Insurance) and must try to recoup in some way.
After days of negotiations with Gentle Dental they, of course, accept no responsibility
for this debacle, content to lay it on my Insurance Company, which by the way, is
culpable as well.
Consumer's Desired Resolution:
Refund of $280.00 due to Gentle Dental Office Staff negligence: 1) Not correctly verifying my Insurance. 2)Not informing me that the procedureswere not covered/I was not covered by Insurance and must pay cash. 3)Gentle Dental had this knowledge and did not share it with me.
Never treat your customers like that
Submitted by Dr. J. My experience with Gentle Dental located at 5815 Melton Drive in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73132 was about as bad as they could come. I arrived there on June 17th at 11:00 am CST for my first appointment. Brettany Tinsley, whom I am told was only recently transferred there . . . perhaps a "pass the trash" situation from her last job . . .? . . . didn't bother to inform me in advance that I would need X-rays. If she had told me before I had come in, I could have brought them with me, as I had them, but she made no mention of that. Given that I had already had sufficient doses radiation from X-rays from dental cleanings both abroad and in the USA over the past year or so, I declined and told her that yet another dose of radiation in such a short period of time would be very unhealthy.
I only had two choices: I could either get X-rays there or get them from a previous place. Brettany did offer to do the X-rays for free, but she also knew that I didn't want more radiation, and she got very rude . . . extremely rude! She told me that I could call and get the X-rays, but she said right then and there that I would not get them for at least 2-3 days. I told her that I wanted to call them to ask for them, as the other place wasn't that far away, I asked for the phone book. Brettany Tinsley gave it to me and I found the place to call, but then she took the phone book away from me and stated that she would look for the number, losing the number I had just found in the process. I informed her that she had just lost the spot to call, and she insisted, "They'll be easy to find in the yellow section." I specifically told her that I wanted to make the phone call and that I would like the pages back. After she had difficulty finding the place I wanted to get the X-rays from, she gave them back to me to find them.
My wife called me on my cell phone number while I was looking for the number in the phone book--again. I stopped to talk with my wife for a second and to listen to our baby-to-be's heartbeat, as she was getting an ultrasound. Once again, Brettany Tinsley took the phone book from the counter and made the call herself. She rudely told the person on the phone right in front of me, "I told him [me] that I would do the X-rays for free, but he refused." She continued to talk about me and was rude, so I decided to call them myself and get the faxed over quickly. While I was looking for the number she and another office manager, Tabbitha Pollard, rudely started whispering about me right in front of me. Hello! I was right there! Did they think I would not hear or be able to read their lips?
Brettany Tinsley even mocked my mild-moderate stutter right in front of me, and another staff member smiled as she did it. HOW RUDE! After getting a person there who said she would get them faxed right over to me, I filled out the three forms you fill out as a new patient. As I was doing this, Brettany Tinsley handed me a card with her regional manager's name on it. Brettany then told me repeatedly that she would be happy to help me find another dentist if I wanted. Why? What? I just wanted to get my teeth cleaned! Is that so hard?! Why would I want to go elsewhere? My wife had already been there before Brettany Tinsley ever started working at the new location, and I had been in there, too, with my wife and we had never had any problems. We had paid hundreds of dollars for the dental work and had done nothing wrong.
At any rate, both Brettany Tinslet and Tabbitha Pollard started going behind closed doors and making calls to various Gentle Dental offices. They even closed the door so I could no longer hear them. Finally Tabbitha Pollard emerged and told me . . . as I was waiting patiently to hear back about the status of my X-Rays, that my appointment time was up and that the dentist would not be able to see me then. I told Tabbitha Pollard that I wanted to talk to the dentist, and she told me that he had already left the building for lunch. Really? I had not seen him leave! Did she think I was a ###? I guess so . . . So, I went over to where the dentist worked and called out his name, asking another worker there if the dentist was still there. Guess what?! She said, "Oh, Dr._________ (I am choosing not to include his name for personal reasons) is with another patient." Really?
I looked back at Tabbitha Pollard and said, "I thought you said he wasn't here." She retorted rudely, "He's working on his lunch break. That's what he's doing." I said, "Well, I still want to talk with him." She snapped back, "Well, you can't. We're no longer going to see you as a patient here. You need to leave." I left and tried to contact Gentle Dental's corporate office, but no one answered. Finally I called another location in Oklahoma and was able to get the phone number for a lady named Debbie. Debbie didn't care and I told her I would sue . . . and she still didn't care. She was just another corporate suit who cared nothing about the customers. I spoke with the dentist we were supposed to see . . . after spending much time looking up his name and location on the Internet, and he was kind enough.
However, even though he was with another patient at the time of this stupid and avoidable incident, he could have come out to save Gentle Dental from losing many good paying clients. I told him what I wanted - a formal letter of apology or else we would sue - and he said he would try, but he himself was only an employee of Gentle Dental. Both Tabbitha Pollard and Brettany Tinsley of Oklahoma City, I found out today, refused to apologize in any way, shape or form, and they were actually supported by the corporate office. I could say more about the dentist but don't wish to do so for personal reasons at the moment. STAY AWAY FROM GENTLE DENTAL AT ALL POSSIBLE COSTS! YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR, AND IT'S NOT WORTH IT! Never . . . never treat your customers or even your worst enemy like that...No!
Crooks
I was told I had a credit on my account and I asked for a refund. They told me it would take 6 weeks to process. I called after 6 weeks to check on it and told they couldn't refund me until all the cliams were paid. The claim in questions was a year old. The office manager told me that she sent it to the insurance company and I would have to wait until they paid on it, which should be soon since she sent it over a week ago. She then asked if I wanted to call the insurance company so I did. They never received it, and they gave me a fax number where it coudl be faxed to. Called the office manager back, said they never got it and gave her the fax number to fax it over, she said she would do it right away. I called the insurance company back after 2 weeks and they still hadn't received it. So after going back and forth with this, calling the billing office and the regional manager. I finally got my money. During my last appoitnment with them, which was an appointment to have all of the fillings I had put in the year before refilled (one completely fell out), I was told I needed 3 fillings for cavities I had. I declined. Just got back from my new dentist and I have no cavities that need to be filled. I won't even get into the problems my husband has had with the work they did.

I am having the same problem with the Mesa office. I was overcharged on one claim to the tune of almost $500.00. The kicker is that I paid with my FSA benefits card. Now that I am asking them to refund the money, I am being told I have to wait for all the claims to close, then the office manager would have to see where the error occurred. Now there are 4 people under my account and all have had appointments recently so that will take some time. I have the receipt of my payment and the EOB for the claim and you do not have to be a rocket scientist to figure out where the overcharge occurred. We have stopped using their services due to the *too bad, so sad - what are you going to do about it* attitude of the office manger. So now my FSA account is empty due to this overcharge and I do not know if I will see the money refunded before the end of the plan year. I am being told my only options are to either have the money refunded back to my FSA or use the credit I have at their office. My question is will I lose this money if they continue to stall my refund?
Unfair Billing
I have requested a detailed billing of the charges and have not received this. I have been requesting this since June of 2010 and nothing yet. I specifically asked them not to do any additional work that would not be covered by my insurance and they did indeed charge me double. I have yet to this day to receive this information other than threatening...
Read full review of Gentle DentalWe have just experienced one of the scariest experiences in my life
We have just experienced one of the scariest experiences in my life. We made an attempt to make a first appointment for our children to have a simple cleaning with either Rita or Benita Evazyan DDS. We read horrible reviews about Castle Dental and decided to choose another dentist in Burbank. We spoke with Azza the extremely HIGH STRUNG head of the dental office. She told us in no uncertain terms we could never make or discuss an appointment unless we had clearance from Access Dental. I was then told by Access Dental they couldn't make an authorization unless we had an appointment. I realized I needed to get both parties on the line to amicably figure this out. The gentleman from Access dental was cordial and polite to Azza. Rather than coming to a meeting of minds, Azza blew-up and acted very unprofessional to Access Dental and myself. She told us to go somewhere else. I recommend you do the same.
I have two children - I would never want them to witness an adult acting younger than them. In life we all need to bend- I ask her to at least confer with the dentist team. Absolutely not! I rarely write anything negative on the internet unless I feel I have to. On the contrary we look forward to writing raving reviews about good businesses and practices. Unfortunately we as parents feel the need to warn others. I haven't read anything negative about the Evazyans. We pray the Evazyans that work at Ms. Azza's establishment become aware of the very unprofessional office protocol. We would be happy to withdraw this review if we see a shift in attitude.
Thanks goodness for the internet and a way of sharing our experiences.
This is the worst dental office ever
This is the worst dental office ever, they can't even keep an appointment and do not have the courtesy to call and let a person know. They did call to confirm my appointment the day before, but when I showed up, they seemed so confused as to why I was there. The receptionist claimed that their office manager called to cancel, but that never happened. Nor did they apologize for causing me to lose work.
Gentle Dental is the worst
My wife and I had our teeth cleaned at the Gentle Dental location in Fremont, CA. The front office is a joke. They are pretty much clueless even in basic concepts like setting up appointments. But let's set that aside.
Gentle Dental is a chain and uses the same unscrupulous marketing/up-sell practices that many other large corporations use. When you go in for a regular cleaning they harass you and try to get you to sign up for other more expensive treatments like deep cleaning. We finally succumbed and signed up for the deep cleaning (yes, we were fools!). They also quietly slip in extras like "desentizing cream" etc., during the treatment without disclosing it first and then slap a charge on you for it, because according to them, "it's really required but the insurance company does not cover it".
Now for the worst part. After our treatments, we paid our part and were told that the insurance had picked up the rest. After a couple of months, they came back and started asking for more money saying the insurance did not cover all the costs. When asked about the details, the person at the corporate accounting office was extremely confused (standard Gentle Dental incompetence). I have no way of disproving the legitimacy of these charges, but I am still suspicious of these new charges and wonder if it is some sort of "profit-boosting" scheme devised at corporate headquarters to boost revenue during these lean times.
After much ado, I finally just got fed and just paid the bill. I also swore that I will never ever again go to Gentle Dental or similar "chain" outfit. I am going to stick to my local small-business dentist and I urge you to do the same. What Gentle Dental did to me is another example of how the greedy corporatization of our health-care has hurt the average person on the street.

Stay away from them
I have read other reviews of Gentle Deltle and find that they are doing the same to my wife and I. I selected them through my retirement medical options, mostly because they were least expensive. That is important to us because we are living on a very limited income.
The first thing they did was to tell me it was necessary to go for a cleaning 3 times a year, rather than 2 normally allowed by the insurance plan. They advised both my wife and I we needed deep cleaning.
I found in other complaints, found online, this may or may not be necessary, but we can't afford to go for 2nd opinions.
We were advised that our half of a deep cleaning, based upon our insurance coverance, would be about $1200. Found a 2nd opiniou published on another complaint that this is out of line. To quote: "that the industry standard is to charge $150 - $200 per quadrant, $300 per quadrant in the most expensive of dentist offices". My half would be what is charged in the most expensive offices. That is not Gentle Dentle.
Now the abusive part. My wife just had her teeth cleaned. She was advised to have deep cleaning. She said she could not afford that. They told her not to come back. They will not clean her teeth anymore. I assume I am next, but will change dentists when my wife does.

Simply awful
Okay so my friend's mom and sister went to the dentist the other day because his little sister had to get a tooth pulled. The tooth wasn't loose. It was in the way of other teeth and making her cry from pain. Now, my friend's family isn't exactly "well-off". They don't have the most money in the world.
They just have enough money for food and that's pretty much it. The parents sometimes give up their food just to ensure that their children are happy. Well anyway, the dentists wanted $21.80 to pull his sister's tooth and they didn't have the money. What did the people at Gentle Dental do? They refused to pull the tooth, leaving this little 8 year old girl in pain. The next day his little 8 year old sister stayed home from school and spent the entire day pulling out her own tooth that was NOT loose to begin with. She was forced to do what a professional dentist could have done, but refused to because they needed the money up-front. The "professionals" at Gentle Dental wouldn't help an 8 year old girl when she was in massive pain, so she resorted to DIY surgury. Does this sound "professional"?
No human should ever be denied medical care because they cant afford it.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I am sorry, but I have to disagree with you. Asking for $22 for pulling a child's tooth is extremely cheap! You want to tell me that this child's parents don't have $22 to take care of this problem? The parents are to blame, if you can't afford kids, don't have them. The dentist is absolutely blameless, he didn't go through years of schooling so that he can work on children, which is very stressful by the way, for free! You make zero sense, and your friend's parents should be ashamed of themselves!
Unethical billing practices
My husband and I were recommended, by our insurance company to use the Gentle Dental Boynton Beach office. We presented our ins cards and explained that we were new to this medicare HMO & not sure of our coverage.
They looked up our coverage and presented us with a patient treatment statement, indicating the procedures covered and out of pocket procedures.
We both needed, according to them, "A deep cleaning." they refused to give us the free one. We paid the extra at the time of service. I always wrote "Paid in full to date" on my check as the office manager indicated there were no hidden charges. After each visit, we were asked to sign a paper "For the Ins Co to know that the work was performed."
Well two months later, my husband gets a balance forward bill from Gentle Dental. I called for an itimized statement and was sent an invoice.
Several items that were in the covered column on the patient treatment statement were now moved to the patient responsibility column.
I feel that they gave us false information just to get the work started. This practice is unethical and they should be forced to stop fooling patients.
I have filed a complaint with BBB which GD has refused to answer.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I agree, when they did this to me they blocked off the single doorway I tried to leave with 3 people.
False Information
During our visit to the doctor office they said we need to do the root canal and fillings.
When I checked the insurance is going to pay 80% you need to pay 20%.
I have taken decision based on the information they provided and paid 20%.
Later they sent me the 80% bill which is 1100.
Please help me out to fight back with these kind of malpractices.

Never again
After speaking with the receptionist to set up my son's inital appointment I was thrilled to have found a dentist that would be good with my apprehensive son. When I got to the office my thrill disappeared. When I walked into the Detroit office it looked more like a fly by night project. Nothing about the place appeared kid friendly. At least the had chairs. After a 2 hour wait wn the waiting room with an apprehensive 6 year old asking to go home we are finally called into the back. 20 minutes later partial x-rays are done. Not even on the back teeth where his bad teeth are. Then there is another 25 minute wait with no one coming to the room. When I told my son we were leaving one of the dental assistants asked me what the problem was. I explained to her that you do not have a nervous child wait 3 hours and hasn't even seen the dentist yet. She explained they are very busy due to alot of people losing their insurance due to the economy and closing jobs and asked me if I would like to schedule another appointment. NO WAY! What is the pourpose of havimg an appointment if your not seen for hours anyway? I actually ended up walking out and let every client in the waiting room know how I felt on my way out.
