GoodLife Fitness memberships/personal training costs

Where do I begin? First, they sucker you into buying a membership. No where on their website do they list prices of their different memberships, and even if you call and ask them they tell you you have to make an appointment with their membership representative person. When you do that, they make you fill out all these forms about what you want/looking for, and then before you know it, they've got you paying $60/month for a membership. I specifically asked for the student membership bc I'm a student and their website says they gave a student rate. But because I signed up over the summer and had a summer job, they couldn't give be the student rate. Also, I went in to see about getting short term personal training, just something to get me started. They wanted me to pay $4400! For only 6 MONTHS of personal training. They wouldn't even tell me the price until I sat in the room with the trainer for an hour going over everything I wanted to accomplish, and getting my measurements. Then they pull out this form saying "If you're really committed than just sign here" FOR $4400! I'm not that committed, or stupid. Then I specifically asked for a SHORT TERM personal training session, maybe something less than 6 weeks (I had just seen the ad for posted outside the gym) and the trainer said "No sorry we don't have anything less than 6 months, this is the best I can do for you" Then when I confronted her about the sign outside the gym, she excused herself to "Speak with her manager" to see what she could do, then came back and said "OK, we can make an exception". And for 6 weeks, it's $750!. Ugh never going back to goodlife again. What's with all the secrecy and mind games!?

This location has horrible service with surly staff. The floor staff either ignore any questions you have or say in a defensive manner "ask at the front desk" and end it there.
The front desk staff rarely say anything as you hand them the card and will never say goodbye as you leave, even when you say something first.

You want to make sure you're doing exercises PROPERLY? Try looking in the mirror or asking another gym member. Both FREE OF CHARGE.

So you were paying this guy MONEY and he wasn't even watching your form or workouts 24/7? Wow, you're a sad fool. Might as well have been working out ALONE for FREE.

Them being replaceable is crap? You went through three for god sake, all saying the same thing! Again I must say you must be a lazy fool, only they would take such an incentive to be motivated. Even after being INJURED you needed a trainer to get you on track? You're the reason McDonald's is making millions.

Ps I can listen to a rocky training video and spend 20min researching online. Same level of motivation. Except you're dumb enough to pay for what's free.

Lol the last guy who posted must be a sales rep or something.

Personal trainers are a scam. What kind of fool pays money to be spoon fed something you can learn for free online? If you're worried about form mistakes etc merely ask an experienced member if you're doing it right for free.

Most trainers are idiots anyway and will have you wasting hours on useless exercises novices have no place touching eg Swiss ball exercises.

They are not magically tailoring something to you. Lmao. Often they're just regurgitating something from a book.

They are as replaceable as check out clerks at the mall.

To be honest, if you're too lazy to spend a few hours or mins even researching for free, you won't last and don't deserve results.

I really dislike the way people complain about the price of personal training.
Let me put it to you this way: when you hire a personal trainer, you are getting more than a workout buddy. That trainer is creating a program SPECIFICALLY designed for YOU and YOUR needs with all your bodily ailments accounted for. You are guaranteed success because now they are not only YOUR goals, but your trainer's as well. Your trainer is going to keep you in check and accountable for your success in the gym. Weekly-monthly weigh ins, food journals, pep talks, "lets-get-you-back-on-track" talks when needed etc. Your appointments with your trainer increase the chances of you actually making it to the gym by a ten-fold! When you walk through the doors of a gym, you are looking to improve your body/health/happiness/confidence etc. but the only thing you leave with on that first day is a membership and a new monthly fee. Working out hurts and its hard so if this is your first gym membership, then it is likely that you don't LOVE working out and don't lead an exuberantly active lifestyle. As time passes you'll likely find yourself going to the gym less and less, things come up, the gym makes you too sore, you plateau and stop seeing results, or you are eating like [censor] and are not seeing results...so now, those good intentions of getting fit/healthy that you had when you walked in the door have dissipated...you are frustrated, still fat/unhealthy and on top of all of this, YOU ARE STILL PAYING FOR THE GYM!
This does not happen when you have a trainer. Those goals will be met, you will get your [censor] to the gym and workouts won't seem as grueling because someone is there with you, cheering you on, coaching you in all aspects of life, and giving you workouts that work for YOU (aka. not out of a magazine that caters to the GENERAL PUBLIC! Are any 2 bodies exactly alike? NO! so why would you use the same workout as someone else and expect the same results?)
Personal training is 'expensive' yes, but so are cars, and when you find yourself at a dealership your intent is to buy a vehicle because you need a method of getting from point A to B. Nobody thinks twice when it comes to investing in material things like that, you need it so you buy it. When you walk in the doors of a gym, chances are you are unhealthy and fat. You need results because you want to get from size 14 to size 6, or you don't want to have heart attack, yet it is appalling when you hear what your need will cost. WHY? Your $5000 car is going to die in 5-8 years, but your $5000 new body is going to make the quality of your life better and last as long as you do.
But of course, investing in YOURSELF is just unthinkable, your right, you'd better spend that 5 grand on a hunk of metal that does nothing for your well-being...fat [censor]

I guess it depends which area you live in, my club is a womens only in a smaller city. I agree that it is expensive for personal training but certainly not to the tune of $4400! I just bought 48 1/2hr sessions a few months ago and it was only$1680.00 roughly $35.00 a session. My membership is great, the people are friendly the classes are fun! It is definately worth the $34.00 a month. Goodlife is way better than the competeter around here which is Premeire Fitness, that was a nightmare!

Put Jessica and Jon's post together and you have the ultimate post of ultimate truth. Goodlife has its flaws and I have heard dozens upon dozens of horror stories of Extreme Fitness and their shadiness and utter lack of moral and ethical business practices. Gymmer beware! uLTIMATELY, IF YOU WALK THROUGH gOODLIFE'S DOORS, BE PREPARED TO spend quite a bit...unfortunately. But, then again, most gyms are highly proced these days. I was mortified when I saw how much the YMCA was. I was expecting affordability. Stick with Goodlife, get out your cheque book.

I do not work for Goodlife Fitness, nor am I afiliated with them. I've been a member now for 6 years and I'm sorry to hear such comments regarding Goodlife Fitness. I have to say, Extreme Fitness is much more aggressive and shady.

The sales rep at the Yonge/Dundas location for Extreme was a liar. I went in as a 'guest' and my wife immediately set the tone by saying, spare him the sales pitch, he just wants to work out and check it out.

The guy followed me into the change room after my wife left, told me that I needed a credit card and drivers license for 'insurance' purposes.

I said 'no' of course and he kept at me. Eventually I wanted him out of my hair and just said okay thinking that he would do nothing with it.

I finish my workout, go ask for my credit card and driver's license back and he says, 'sign here!'. I looked over this paper and it was a contract. I repeatedly said I didn't want to sign a contract, he insisted it wasn't a contract and kept pushing and pushing.

In the end, I didn't sign and he was upset. He even said, "I went through all this work of inputting you into the system, the least you could do is sign for now...".

This is an absolutely true story.

About 10 years ago I worked at CIBC VISA as a call rep. Extreme Fitness was one of the biggest violators of cardholder misuse (based on the number of complaints I got, DAILY!). I mean, it wasn't even close. At least 2 out of my daily incoming calls were from agitated Extreme members. I didn't sign with them because of this when I started (as a VISA rep I heard all the complaints) and listened to myself.

Bottom line: Extreme Fitness is a suspect company. Unlike Goodlife, they are owned by a NY investment firm. So try complaining! Goodlife is Canadian owned, London based by a 'person', so someone ultimately takes accountability. Just my two cents.

GoodLife Fitness their word means nothing

I cancelled my membership, tried to do it by phone as I had a sister-in-law in the hospital with a life threatening disease and we spent every hour we could with her. I asked them to write down the names and cancel the accounts. I got the bs that they can't do it over the phone. I explained the circumstances and still no compassion. I finally went in to cancel in September. I specifically told the girl, I want all amounts paid up, I had put a stop payment on my account and I want no more monies owing to them. She told me the amount that would clean up everything. She said they will try a bank withdrawl and I would need to call to get the money back. I said that won't be a problem as I put a stop payment on the account.

They say I still owe September payment even though I was told nothing more will be due to the club. Their word means NOTHING. They are a lying bunch of money grubbing ###s. If I don't pay by the end of November, they are threatening collections.

Also, if they try to sell you circuit training, don;t buy it, a waste of time. I was told it doesn't do much for you, if you want to really get in shape go to a personal trainer and they will put you through worthwhile routines to help you properly get in shape.

All I can say about BadLife is stay away.

I have no idea how they ever achieved a better business award. Their word does mean nothing. If there is a dispute with billing, they put you on to "Goodlife Experience". Well, its an experience alright. You receive the worst run around and nothing accomplished in handling your dispute / complaint. If you ask to speak to a supervisor or someone higher up, they will refuse you, saying that they are trained to deal with complaints and situations. I have never heard of such a thing from any other type of business or government. They cost more than most other gym memberships and provide the worst customer service possible.

GoodLife Fitness cancellation charges

I lost my new ipod nano in one of goodlife clubs(on roydon place in ottawa), only to find out that it was turned in by one of the local club instructors to the main desk but stolen by one of their employees, the manager of the club tried her best to cover up for the employee and claimed to assume no responsibility of the theft! i guess she forgot to post that "we are sorry but our employees could be dishonest and thieves so don't turn in any found items in the gym" the managment tried to insinuate the honest instructor who handed in the item as one that might of taken it!

Never buy personal training. The trainer will try to sell you most expensive package. it about 75 dollars per session. Don't fall for this fraud.

My car got hit in the parking lot of the Pickering location at 1755 Pickering Parkway. The staff could care less and were of no assistance when I tried to see if they had parking lot cameras. I was told to file a Police report and only then could I get the footage. Well, I went to the police station and they told me they have NO camera's in that parking lot... Only after this did the same general manager Carmella confirm this with me. Her manager was even more useless (Giovinna) and did not take my concerns for the safety of myself and my property seriously, at all. The toll free number makes it impossible to get anyone, Stay far away from this organization, it's VERY poorly run and all they care about it getting you to sign up for a membership. After that, you're on your own.

Had to cancel my membership and personal training sessions because of health reasons. I was instructed by one of the staff that a note from a doctor was necessary in order to cancel trainer/ membership. Provided a note form my doctor. Refund given for my unused and remaining training sessions but they are still charging my credit card. Called THREE times to the manager but no return phone calls and no documentation on what was refunded! What do I do? I can call my credit card and stop further charges but honestly, Goodlife Fitness Centres are the worst company I have ever come across! Can anyone offer advice?

My roommate has submitted the required 30 days notice on 3 occasions personally and each and every time they have lost it. Their Full Time Lawyers then sends letters months later. This company is full of crooks paid on commissions STAY AWAY!

They also require 30 days notice to cancel even if your first year contract is up. My room mate has submitted by hand at his gym on 3 occasions his 30 days notice and every time we get their lawyer chasing after him about 8 months later. They conveniently lose the 30 day notices!

Never ever join this scam of a gym! Unless you can afford a good lawyer!

As a GoodLife Employee, I would personally like to apologize for all your inconveniences. A One Year Contract for Goodlife Fitness has a $99.99 Cancellation Fee. It can be waived if you have a medical issue with a Doctors note and/or you moving to a different country or region of Canada that does not have a Goodlife Fitness Club. The mistake would fall on the person you personally dealt with, with the issue. Any Cancellations or Changes to your Membership can not be done over the phone, but in person with proper identification. As for membership tags, if no longer a member, you can cut it up and throw it away.

When signing up I was told I would be able to transfer my remaining time on my contract to another person. I also called in to confirm this the day I decided to transfer it. The staff member said that I would be able to do so and I even specified "would they take over the remaining or would they have to start their own 1 year contract" she had said just the remaining. I had my member ship for 8 months and now it being summer I am doing more outdoor stuff like canoeing and swimming and hiking, then I have work. So I don't have time to go to the gym and their weekend hours are crap. There's also the issue that when I DO go to the gym there are teens using half the machines with their free summer memberships and when voicing this concern to the staff they simply said to come when the teens aren't allowed to use the gym before 9am and after 4pm... So me, a paying customer has to move my schedule around to make it more convenient. Anyways, I went in to transfer my contract and met the person there and we sat with a staff member and he told me that I has been misinformed and that the person taking over it would have to sign up for their own one year contract. So why is the transfer option even available to customers? People can just go to the gym and get what they'd get from me. They aren't helping their customers at all they are just trapping you. So after contacting the head office they told me they are sorry and they will follow up with the barrie location. Now I'm the bad guy to them and if someone is to get fired or they get in trouble they will put it on me. They also may cancel my membership as they don't have to have a reason or notice. No longer feel comfortable going there anymore. So dissapointed I didn't receive any sympathy or compensation for the lies I was fed.

Do not sign up with this company. Go to a gym where you get a door card and that is ACTUALLY 24/7

I joined Extreme Fitness about a year ago. Now, it is a part of Goodlife. I started getting notices that i needed to pay for fitness membership for me and my wife. We had paid for the year in full so i thought that it was an administration thing but noooo. Apparently, Extreme lost my personal training contract cancellation and had been charging me ever since. I went in a weekday evening and handed the cancellation forms to a personal trainer and it got lost. The manager was not available so I left it with a staff member who assured me that Bruce would be receiving the papers. Anyhow, no one is able to help me, I'm out a few hundred dollars (that I cannot afford), and I have taken 0 personal training sessions. I was with Goodlife for over a year at Northridge before joining Extreme. Is this how my wife and I are treated? Is this what Goodlife stands for? It really must be about the dollars and cents from what I am reading on the net but I hope that I am wrong. I haven't gone to the gym in 3 weeks because I feel angry and disappointed at how I am being treated. All I wanted from the very beginning was to have my contract cancelled. Logic would make that obvious because I did go on a regular basis since joining but not now. I was assured by "bruce" that he would try to help me out but no luck. Bruce is the manager at the club. The same bruce who was with Extreme. I've told all 300 friends on facebook about this, all 400 of my linken account and hopefully, all will go well to make a boring story. I just want this crap over and done with. Is a refund of the money withdrawn too much to ask? Keep posted.

I had a membership to the womens goodlife at don mills and eglinton from purchasing a dealfind voucher for 1 month of unlimited group classes. When me and my friend arrived we were basically pressured to get a membership and we were specifically told by the sales person Latoya that we had 30 days to cancel it without a charge and if after that deadline we decided to cancel we would pay $59 which is the initiation fee that was originally waived by the dealfind voucher. According to that information me and my friend decided to keep the membership. But as time grew we realized it wasn't worth keeping since we had busy schedules and were moving farther then the location. We went to go cancel the membership in which i had to make an appt with the manager she said that they needed a 30 days notice in advance (i dont understand how that makes a difference whether i tell them i want it cancelled 30 days from now) and that the cost was $99 to cancel i mentioned her what the sale rep had told me. She went to go talk to the sales rep and say the individual is suddenly `busy`in the office and for us to call head office. We were pretty much lied to by the rep just to make a sale we were told verbally this is how it would be and on contract it represented nothing of that sort. The sales rep Latoya was hiding in the office the whole time this ordeal was currently going on to avoid the situation and when i confronted her she decided to claim that she said $59 plus first and last.

Either way, that place is a complete rip off stay away and keep your money in your pocket.

GoodLife Fitness goodlife fitness - void cheque

I heard a promotion on the radio about a one-year free membership with zero dollars initiation fee at GoodLife with certain restrictions and conditions.

I went to GoodLife to discuss the restrictions to the front desk and they told me to speak to the "manager". A young man (25-30 years of age) with no job title approached me. We sat down at a near by table and the first question he asked was what I do for a living and whether I am with an association or a company. My association offers a competitive rate, however I wanted to try out the facility for a "free year" as per the radio promotion before signing up. Right away, he offered me 2 months for $2 each and then I could start paying my association rate. Therefore, I came in regarding one promotion and I receive something completely different. Subsequently, I joined for $2 per 2 months. To receive my association corporate rate, I would need to pay them directly. Therefore, I do not have to deal with GoodLife for payments. The sales rep. also gave me this information. He then asked for my cheque information and claimed, "not a dime would be taken", since I would be dealing with my association and not GoodLife. He informed me this information is necessary to activate my membership. I was reluctant to give that information since I found it unnecessary and said I would bring it in tomorrow when I receive my orientation session.

The next day, I spoke to the same sales rep. He asked for the void cheque, and again I fed him the same lines as yesterday. He informed me, if I do not give him my bank account number, I can't join, even though yesterday I paid the $4 and oh 20 cents for 2 months of gym access which I was now unable to attend. He then adds he needs this information to apply the $30 bi-weekly charge. Bi-weekly? I asked. I reminded him about my association fee and he said oh right (as if he forgot), and continued, but I still need the cheque information to open your 12 month contract membership. As a result, everything we discussed 24 hours ago didn't register and now he's giving me new information we didn't even discuss! I said thanks but I'll pass and he tore my membership contract with this rude look on his face. Sorry buddy, you're only getting $4.20 out of me.

After the "void cheque" incident yesterday, I did my research and this website really helped. I discovered this didn't just happen to me but to others alike. Please share your story on this website to help others save money and avoid headaches.

I had cancelled my membership... Much to my surprise, they kept charging me over and over. I discovered that they renew my contract without my knowledge and without my signature. I called the main office repeatedly, but no answer, only a lame email. REFUND my money at once...now!

Your club is to dark and no lights are on and it is dark and no one will replace the light bulbs

I need this addressed asap as my family will get hurt in this location and the manager is rude and don’t care he says it cost to much money to replace them and that’s very sad reply ! Please fix this issues

I have been a good life member since I can remember! I love coming however I find the staff at the women's good life South Park street I often using the equipment to socialize during peak hours so people are uncomfortable to use the machines accessible to everyone

No one can provide me a receipt. I have to wait 25 days. I will be loosing out in a 300$ reimbursement from my employer. No one cares.

I have been getting overcharged on my bank statements for a month now, been calling headoffice..they will put you on hold for 15min and click (hung up on you) or press 1 and they will return your call ( they dont).

Teddy Theo Garfunkel has been training clients at various goodlife locations for many years now. He is not an employee. He's paid on cash 60 dollars an hour. He is currently training under the radar at your park road location also your blood just west of bay st.

Hi..
I am japneet singh...i am completely pissed off by your service...last month i put on membership on hold because of some matter..they told me its gonna work till 28 of august...but still they cut charges from my bank account...
Goodlife service is really [censored]n bad...

For the Prestige Plan we were told we either give them our banking info or pay for a full year: $720 + tax. This is not ethical.

The goodlife fitness in calgary alberta on 8th ave took money out of my account three times and the [censored]ed me for rent by 50.40 and i cant afford to cancel my account
