Hotpoint / GE Appliances Waiver

I purchased a Magtag refrigerator from Bray and Scraff and I am having problem with the freezer bulb it kept going out. A repairman
can to access the problem and found out that it needed a part. The part was never order because it was unavailable. I have a service level agreement with General Electric and they called and told me that the part can not be replaced and they will have to replace the refrigerator with another that is equal to or comfortable with what I had. They told me the website to go to and look at the model they choose after I had given them the model and specification of the one I had. I did so, and agree to the one they had selected.
When the refrigerator was delivered by a three party, Appollo Company, the refrigerator was too large and would not fit. I refuse the refrigerator and customer service from GE told me that if I wanted another refrigerator delivered I would have to pay $100.00.
I am requesting that I received another refrigerator because I did my part I sent them the model number of the one I had with all the specifications and I shouldn't have to pay for them not reading what I had sent. I asked customer service do they not read what the customer sent them to make sure that what is being replaced is what's specified! She stated, that is the normal procedure; however, they must did not follow the procedure on this order.
I am requesting that the $100.00 be waiver and I received my refrigerator as planned.
I believe that their is a trust and integrity between the consumer and the customer.

Hotpoint / GE Appliances Bad service

After owning the GE model GXSV65F Water Filtration System for a couple years, I attempted to fix the dripping faucet. As with most anything, I don't have a problem understanding that things wear out over time and are in need of replacement parts. What I DO have a problem with though, is when the manufacturer (GE in this case) tells me that there are NO such replacement parts for that unit, and the only thing I can do to remedy the problem is to purchase a whole new faucet to the tune of $58.00. Gimme a break! Don't typical rubber washers for faucets cost about .79 cents? I understand the BIC lighter mentality of buying disposable products at a fraction of the cost of repairable ones, but this unit costs $158.00 new and now they are telling me if I don't spend another $58 I cannot fix it. I already spend about $100 a year replacing the filters. If I wanted to buy a disposable system, I'm sure China makes one comparable to GE's at a fraction of the cost.

If they don't do something, I'll probably just yank the thing out from under my sink and chalk it up to GE ripping off the little guy. That's alright GE, just remember, GM used to be too big for their britches too. What's GM's stock price at today? 2.66... OUCH!

I own a GE electric stove/oven unit and the oven sensor is out. When I go on line to look up this part and put in the Model# and the Part# it comes up to be a oven ignitor for a gas oven or these # do not cross reference can someone explain this to me. Does GE make two different products using the same part and if so, how can GE explain the stupidity behind this decision? Confused Appliance Repairman in Texas.

Hotpoint / GE Appliances No warranty

I purchased an extended warranty from Home Depot. I have requested repairs on my washing machine without success. They have sent service techs that do not show up or bother to call to let us know they are not coming. They have looked at the machine tell us they need to order parts and never come back. they make appointments we take off work and they do not come. they will not work with us on Saturday's. We are told they do not have a company that will come out on Saturday's.We have been going back and forth like this for 7 weeks now. The last company that came ordered parts and we were told another two weeks before the tech could return. So we felt we had no choice. This past Saturday 6/15/08 after we were told by another tech that it would be safe to use the washer for very small loads such as undergarments, it caught fire in my home. It fill the lower floor of our home with rubber smelling smoke. Our alarms went off and the fire department call us through our alarm system to make sure they did not need to come to put out the fire. I called to report this fire to comsumer relations at GE warranty company and we were told we would have wait to Monday to talk to customer relations. I told the rep our house could have burned down but they did not seem to care. I am sure they got a good laugh after I hung up. I am outraged this mess. We also at the time had an attorney at our home going over some personal documents who witnessed this. When I spoke to the customer serivice person at GE-Zurich and asked them to send someone out to access the damage I was told it would take a week. they also refused to give me a voucher for a new washing machine until the tech sent them a full report that the machine was unrepairable. I do not want this fire hazard back in my house. I asked for a new machine to be delivered and they could pick this one up off the back porch. I was told they could not help me I would just have to wait until all the paperwork was completed. To me this is unexceptable. I have spent 7 weeks driving back and forth to a laudromat. Spending my money to do laundry besides the money for gas. We have lost three days of work without pay at $128.00 a day and these people have the nerve to inform me I must wait another 2 weeks before they can determine what they want to do about this if anything. If you plan to buy an appliance from home depot and they try and sell you on their warranty program do not bother it is not worth the pain and agony if something does go wrong. I am very distress over this whole incident but no one seems to care about hard working people that try and do the right thing. I have also contact HOME DEPOT and they could not assist they just tossed me back into the lions den to take care of this for myself. Buy the time this gets resolved it will have cost me around $700.00 they could have given me a whole new washer and dryer set for that amount of money. So the warranty they try and sell is not worth the paper it is written on. Do not waste your money at HOME DEPOT ON YOUR APPLIANCES OR THE LOUSY EXTENDED WARRANTY PLANS! I plan to also sell my stock with GE because of the way I have been treated during this whole process.

I am on hold with GE-Zurich Warranty Management now. Again. Still.

We have an extended warranty on our Amana refrigerator. The repairman came Tuesday, July 13, and needed to order a new compressor. 5 days to get the part. Got the repair scheduled for July 22, but we got a call that the part came in damaged (on July 20), so they need to re-order it.

Wording on my contract clearly states, "Term Extension - The expiration date of this Contract will automatically be extended by the duration that the product is withheld from consumer use while being repaired." I have been calling GE-Zurich Warranty Management to make sure that this happens, only to be put on hold, and be misinformed by the "customer service reps" who tell me that I will be receiving a call back within an hour, only to have the "supervisor" tell me that the callback is within 24 hours, and that the manager is "too busy with other things" to speak to me directly. I want to make sure that the contract is extended as it is required to be.

This refrigerator was purchased at Lowe's.

Hotpoint / GE Appliances I strongly recommend not purchasing ANY of these GE appliances

Yesterday, while cooking dinner, I turned the GE wall oven (model: JTP85BA2BB) on to bake at 350 degrees. About 15 minutes later I walked past the oven to notice a bright fire in the right corner of the oven. I opened the oven and noticed that the bake element (bottom of oven) was burning as if it was a big slow fuse (no, there was no grease involved). The fire looked like a "magnesium fire" or the fire you see when welding where the heat/light/fire is very localized but hot and bright. The element proceeded to burn and I attempted to put it out with a small bit of water, then some salt (as I had no sand) and finally a fire extinguisher. None of these worked. As I watched the fire slowly burn towards the end of the element and the wall of the oven, I did not know whether the fire would continue into the oven wall so my only choice was to get bolt cutters and cut the element where it hadn't burned yet. Luckily there was enough of the element left to do this before something worse happened.

I called GE Consumer Relations [protected]) and, after apologizing (gee thanks - that helped A LOT last night when I called the "24 hour" line to find out it wasn't open "24 hours"), they want to come and "diagnose" the issue at no charge. I don't quite know what they are going to diagnose. I can tell them this - the element is burned beyond use and the oven is also currently useless and could have started a much worse fire were it not for some quick thinking. Luckily, I had tools handy to stop the burning.

This oven has never had ANY problems outside of the fact that the microwave above it and connected to the entire unit is on the recall list (door switch) and I am in the process of arranging a service call for it. Personally, I now believe they should consider recalling the whole unit (microwave AND oven). I feel lucky I didn't set the unit for delayed start as I had originally intended as more than an element may have been charred and burned.

Lastly, this seems par for the course as I have/had three out of four GE appliances that I received new with the house when I moved in recalled or damaged due to what I consider sub-standard quality and workmanship (1 - dishwasher that stopped working and leaked all at the same time which I replaced and then found out was recalled 6 months later, 2 - recalled microwave, and 3 - the wall oven above).

I strongly recommend not purchasing ANY of these GE appliances and if you do... caveat emptor! You may be getting something you didn't plan for...

I HAVE A GE JGRP20WEJ1WW GAS WALL OVEN THAT I BOUGHT IN 2005 AND HAVE HAD 4 PROBLEMS WITH IT IN 5 YEARS. ASKED TO REPLACE THE OVEN AND THEY WILL ONLY GIVE ME ANOTHER ONE AT DISCOUNTED PRICE WHICH ISN'T HELPFUL RIGHT NOW BEING I'M UNEMPLOYED. THIS OVEN HAS BEEN BROKEN DOWN MORE THEN IT'S BEEN USED. I WILL NEVER BUY A GE APPLIANCE AGAIN IN MY LIFE. I SAID THE SAME WITH A CERTAIN AUTOMOTIVE MANUFACTURER AND I NEVER BOUGHT FROM THEM AGAIN. PLAIN AND SIMPLE THEIR APPLIANCES ARE GARBAGE.

Hotpoint / GE Appliances This will be my last GE appliance!

I purchased a GE refrigerator, model # GSH25SGPC SS, it is about 2 years old and I have had no problems until the last three months. The water supply in the door stopped working. Someone told me to take a hair dryer and heat the plastic tubing behind the crisper (not too hot so as to melt the tubing). I did this and also blew warm air around the back of the freezer door where the water is dispensed. Nothing happened until about 15 minutes later when it started working. It worked for a few days and stopped again. I have tried turning the air off that flows to the crisper area, tried turning the temperature up in both the refrigerator and freezer to no avail. I then heated all the same areas again and within an hour it stared dispensing water again. The third time I just went in and pushed and pulled on the tubing and about 20 minutes later it started working again. This time it worked for about four days. I have even tried moving food around in both sides with no results. I have household appliance insurance American Home Shield and they said that the water supply is not covered. I am extremely disgusted and unless something changes, this will be my last GE appliance! I have spoken with others who have the same problem and they have been told by GE to replace the freezer door at a cost of $500.00. Other wise they turn their back to the problem.

This happens to ours quite often. The water insie the water hose freezes. We do the hair dryer trick, too. Now our freezer door is rusting where the water dispenser is. Never another GE refrige.

I purchased my last GE refrigerator. This has been our experience with this 4-years old device.
1. Water dribbles out of the dispensor even with new filter
2. Service call to replace parts as device was not cooling
3. Ice Maker stopped working
4. The ice box rack is showing signs of rust

We have had this refrigerator replaced after spending about $400.00 on the last one which was only 3 years old- at the most.
THe ice maker won't work properly. I have to empty the ice bin everyday just to try to get it to work.
The last one was the same problem- that's when G.E. replaced them because of a law suit.
They replaced it - but with the same junk as usual.
I will never buy another G.E. appliance in my lifetime & will share my thoughts with everyone.
I now know why G.E> is getting out of the appliance business- they are very bad at it.

We had a four year old GE refrigerator that malfunctioned and heated its contents to 127 degrees before discovered. Since we had an extended warranty, we contacted GE customer service which showed no interest in the obvious product safety issue. We requested a replacement, all they would do is repair. We decided to replace the unit on our own (different brand, of course) rather than take the risk that it would eventually burn down our home.

The entire GE customer service experience was dreadful. Dropped calls, refusal to acknowledge a product safety concern... simply terrible.

Like you, I will avoid GE in every way, shape and form from now on. Buy Sylvania light bulbs.

Hotpoint / GE Appliances Poor mechanical design

The unit in question was designed to fail as the phenolic water line feeding the water dispenser is routed right next to the compressor resulting in the tubing to burn, dry out, crack and start leaking. On the back of the refrigerator there is a warning label which admonishes against using any plastic tubing for the "external" water hook up as it will dry out and leak. It states to use a copper line yet GE uses a non-copper line internal to the refrigerator which probably has a temperature in excess of 120 degrees hotter than the outside water hook up line. Figure this out. Thus GE has designed the refrigerator to fail and it did. I called for service and the GE Technician said he would fix it as delivered. Now why would I spend about $200 only for it to fail again in a matter of months? As an Engineer I find this whole approach to be nothing short of stupid and irresponsible on the part of General Electric. Additionally, GE Customer Relations called me and they don't even have a clue as to what their responsibility is to their customers. I am not inclined to "ever" buy anything that is produced by GE including light bulbs.

Hotpoint / GE Appliances General Electric treats its customers with disrespect!

I bought a high-end GE refrigerator about a year ago. Shortly after it arrived, it lost all freon. It took a week for GE to send someone to look at it and offer a diagnosis. When the part arrived a month later, it turned out not to address the problem. It turned out that the unit had been dropped on its side and had a broken part in the back. It took another two months for them to finally fix it. We were without a refrigerator for a total of three months, and they had our money already.

I tried to push this process along, but GE didn't even list a phone number or an email address for customer support on their website! When I was able to find a phone number, the people I talked to seemed to neither understand nor care about my problem. It was as if they were incapable of understanding the simplest things, and adopted a defensive attitude to diminish their own responsibility.

Any refrigerator can chill food; what you're really buying is customer service. Unless GE improves their customer service drastically, don't buy their appliances. If something goes wrong, they may take months to fix it.

Given the trend of the times, I presume that the money that should have been spent on warranty service went for jet planes for the top executives. General Electric treats its customers with disrespect, and doesn't deserve your patronage.

Do not buy GE appliances at all. We have a GE refrigerator, a washer, and dryer. We have only had these appliances for three years and our fridge freezes all the food now and the water and ice despenser do not even work. The service repair guys which by the way are very rude and have major attitude problems and try and talk down to you, have come to our house 4 times to try and fix our washer which they fix it temporarily and a couple days later it breaks down again. I am fed up with them and not being able to fix our appliances for another week. Dont buy appliances from them they cause nothing but problems and stress and a deeper hole in your pocket.

I bought a new GE Profile fridge. The door broke off during the installation and dealing with GE to get it fixed has been a nightmare involving two service calls and at least 10 calls to customer service and the GE parts department. Nobody at GE seems to care that my brand new fridge is not working and I can't get a straight answer on when my replacement part will arrive. The first service call resulted in me waiting 5 or 6 days for the wrong part to arrive and then a second service call where the agent requested that the part be overnighted to me. Several nights later, still no part...

My GE Profile side by side was one of their "top of the line frig". I purchased this frig in Jan '07. In Oct '07, the inside of the frig heated up to 117 degrees. I was in a panic, cause it was sooo hot. I called GE, and they sent someone out under warranty and the repairman said that he thought it was the switch on the door that controls the lights in the interior of the fridge. I thought that was crazy, cause having the lights on the frig could not possible cause it to heat up to that kind of temperatures. Then he showed me that there are 5 appliance bulbs in the interior of this fridge and in that small of a space, if those lights are on overnight (and they probably were, cause it was in the a.m. when I detected the problem) it could certainly heat up to those temperatures. The serviceman changed the switch and the control panel because I also complained of the water dispenser not working periodically. When he left, I told him that this scared me so much (heating up like that), I might just get a new fridge. He told that would be foolish, because he changed just about everything that could go wrong with fridge and that the warranty on what he did starts over again, and I would have a new 5 year warranty on those repairs. I thought "ok...I will keep then". I continued to have problems with the water dispenser not working and then on June 15, 2009, I opened the frig to find the temperature at 60 degrees (same problem). I panicked and immediately call GE to have someone come out and gave them my "Case #" that they gave me and told me to "be sure and refer to this number if you have any more problems". The service representative preceded to tell me that only the parts were under warranty, but I would have to pay a service call and if it was a different problem, I would have to pay for the new parts and service. This is crazy. It's the same problem. The water dispenser is still broken and it is heating up again. ALL THE SAME PROBLEMS!...but I will have to pay. This is ridiculous and I did inform GE that not only will I never buy another GE appliance, I will take every opportunity and forum to discuss the problems I had with their appliance. BEWARE OF GE PRODUCTS!

We too have experienced the frozen water line in the freezer door just this past week. We have own the refrigerator for a little less than 2yrs. now. We too had to use a blow dryer to thaw out the line-- that wasn't easy. I am very disturbed to read about this issue and that it's been around for sometime now. I am going to complain to GE and we'll see what happens.

We have a G.E Profile fridge with the freezer on the bottom. We have had problems with the drain freezing which causes ice build up and freezes the fan and quits working. Every week we have to take the fridge apart and thaw it out. But it keeps re occuring. Looked at it by a repair man but can't be fixed.

STAY AWAY from GE Fridges!

I have the dreaded "water dispenser freezes up" problem in my GE fridge. The water dispenser will work fine for a day or two, then we'll get a total freeze in the water line. No water. We turn the fridge off for 4-5 hours (or overnight), and let the water thaw. It's fine for a few more days, then repeat the procedure when it freezes up again.

THIS APPEARS TO BE A KNOWN DESIGN FLAW IN GE REFRIGERATORS. TO DATE, GE HAS FAILED TO FIX IT, THOUGH THERE ARE REPORTS THAT THEY ARE WAIVING SERVICE FEES (BUT NOT PARTS FEES) FOR A REPAIR. I suggest calling GE and complaining. They won't fix it until enough people complain. I also suspect that a class-action lawsuit might be in order.

My parents have a 20 year old fridge with a water dispenser that works just fine, so apparently designing one that works properly is well within the current state of the art. For some reason GE hasn't changed their design, though. I leave it up to the reader to decide why.

I have been told by many others that have the same problem that GE told them to buy a new freezer door for $500.00 to fix the problem. Apparently GE did not install enough insulation around the water supply tubing and it keeps freezing. GE tends to turn their back on problems with their products.
